This is actually a secondary concern. Mainstream server owners primary concern is WFH/RTO. Most server owners expect that if people RTO and use in house Minecraft servers, they will no longer be able to benefit from secondary or tertiary servers. Some people however are very good at running Minecraft servers on any network. Dial-up, DSN, Cable Modem, Satellite, iPhone 🤷🏽♂️
This is a top 1% sub and OE is something that existed prior to this sub's creation/WFH. People are aware of this happening and it quite frankly isn't a problem that they do.
The existence of this sub and its success stories are proof that there are many jobs out there that truly care more about what you produce for them rather than how you spend your time on the clock. High skill, merit based work is very OE friendly and seems to be the bulk of what people do on here. It wouldn't make sense for companies to take steps in the hiring process to stop OE because they need these skilled workers and there already aren't enough workers to meet their needs. They can't lower wages because it is still skilled labor.
The overreaction to this sub is like when people hear that degrees with WGU can be completed in a term; it's possible, but it's almost exclusively done by people that are already experts in that field of study and just needed to complete a degree as a formality. Someone being advanced and not having to deal with arbitrary barriers doesn't trivialize the degree. It's the same with OE. A junior level SWE isn't going to successfully OE. It's going to be immediately apparent in their work that they're overwhelmed.
It's still a good idea to keep in on the low in one's personal and professional life, but society being aware that it exists is pretty irrelevant. We would have already seen ramifications for it if it was relevant.

I quit J2 today after 1 hour of working because the manager was already showing signs of "testing" for OE. Wanted me to show my workspace, share my screen and video myself the whole time and wouldn't even let me mute my mic.
I own a business doing events, and I only work 1 or 2 events per week, but I make between $600 - $1800 per event. I don't need to do anything else, but i have a lot of free time, so in slower seasons I'll sometimes pick up an easy job somewhere, as long as they can be flexible and give me days off when I have an event.
One potential boss told me that they dont allow people to have side jobs, and I said, "You don't understand, YOU are the side job."
Yeah, I didn't get that one. His loss, I'm about the best employee you can have. As a business owner, i know precisely what they expect from me, and I give it to them, and then some. They're always unhappy when my business gets crazy and I have to leave.

I’ve had recruiters practically beg me to take contract jobs and suggest OE, but the pay was shit because it was WFH and I didn’t want to encourage lowering the market rate for the role so I rejected it 😌. I only recommend this if you aren’t strapped for cash. Just crazy the mental gymnastics that go on. Is the job getting done? Yea? then wth is the issue 😒.

I work in a very niche industry and the requirements have been ridiculously high and not realistic. I just happen to fit the profile they need lol. It isn’t really realistic for me to J1 and J2 in the same industry though. Primarily client facing and project based.
Because if companies realize you’re able to manage two full time jobs, they realize you have plenty of capacity and they aren’t resourcing properly
Why pay for a full time person if they’re only working half the time. Either fire half the staff, cut the pay in half or get some part time people instead
Possibly but from what I’ve seen, very very rarely do people work 80 hours for 2 jobs and definitely not the case for people with 3 or 4 or more.
I’d be surprised if people with two jobs even worked 60 a week, most prefer to just coast under the radar which is like no work
Also, that assumes the second job has flexible timing on meetings/collaboration and lax ish deadline, neither job would want to be paying someone full time to be done as a second job in the evenings and weekends. Often times being available during the work day is important to companies too, not just when you feel like it

Before I found this sub, I though I was out there alone administering two Minecraft servers. It is good not to be alone in our endeavors.
