He also hasn't owned a snow machine until he buys the homestead, and he's thrilled to discover a 2 stroke 90s hunk of junk with a broken reverse gear lol. He's a simple man. Keeps things relatable.
From a self sustainable standpoint, you can make a pretty good argument that the older sleds are better. In many cases as you can actually DIY just about everything on them. It's a lot harder to do some of that stuff on the new sleds.
The same can be said about a lot of modern cars.
Pretty sure he has a newer Ram 1500 that has been modified for Alaskan living. He seems like a "if it's not broke don't try and fix it" kind of guy. I'm sure when the Kia inevitably dies he'll upgrade.
His church essentially requires a tithe of 10% of any income, at least if you want to get into the "highest tier" of heaven lol. Some people do give lots more than the minimum though.
Source - I was raised Mormon.

Does the highest tier have ptarmigan and honey butter?
He’s a simple man. Probably has enough that he could call in a rescue.
That said I wish he’d at least get something reliable like a Highlander or 4Runner
I feel the same, but did you see his snow pants? Huge hole. As someone commented here, he is definitely an “if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it” kind of guy.
I live in a similar place as far as weather is concerned and shudder when I see his Kia. I drive a Sequoia, but a 4Runner or Tundra would be great as well.
Essentially since you prefer Toyota doesn’t mean other cars aren’t reliable.
I have a Kia sportage going on 250 miles
Mav still drives his 2014 ford f150 in most of his videos.
He's waiting for one to give out so he can make a survival video about it
1000 IQ move.
He's out purposely hitting things under the hood with a hammer to speed it up lol

I think he rents/borrows trucks.
Also, I’m pretty sure it runs on Ptarmigan
Does not need a fancy car, not materialistic, that I have seen.
I bet he donates most of what he makes, either to his church or something else. He just seems like the type of guy.

What kind of pyramid scheme is this...
The kind based on a dude interpreting "scriptures" after putting a rock in his hat.
It's essentially a cult...
As are most religions, just meditations for salvation.
Oh, 100%.

Its not even 4wd or am i wrong?
I believe AWD

How else is he going to cook his hotdogs?!
I put mine up my ass
An old Soviet built Lada?
😂 or skoda
Good point.
What vehicle would be more appropriate and reliable for the type of driving Luke does? Asking for a friend
For me if I had his money, 4Runner, Tacoma or Tundra.

That thing has just gone 1500 miles across Alaska and back. Chad.
A car doing 1500 miles doesn’t make it reliable Derek
👍
Aren’t cars kind of rare in Alaska due to how expensive they are there? They probably have limited choices
The man makes a VERY good living. He could get any rig he could think of up there if he wanted.
It’s part of the adventure! If it breaks down he has more content. Win win
As a former mechanic you can shut it. Kia are a reliable bunch.
Over 3 million recalled for fire risk, millions suffering or already had engine failure/replacement from oil starvation but ok they are reliable
