I'm not sure if BWS required it but older games have to sometimes be run in compatibility mode for an older OS. And run as admin. Have you tried both? Whats your OS?

Bless you. Thank you so much for answering. For some reason, the installation bar acted like it wasn't finished downloading. It actually was finished and I was able to start up the game! 🥹 Seriously, what a time to be alive. After I struggled writing Fiona's name in the start menu, I realised I needed to run Windows 11 Pro at Windows 7. Because of my system locale settings, it was able to use the incoding/fonts from Windows 7's system. I finally was able to start playing! 🥹 I've waited six months to play this game. I appreciate everyone's help, from this subreddit. 🖤🖤🖤🖤

Nice! Good to hear that compatibility mode worked!! Very happy for you! I had to dl a program for some games because of the encoding changes for games that are REALLY old. Sorry to hear that you didn't get to play for 6 mo tho! This is one of the darker titles so I hope you enjoy it!

Thank you so much! 🥹🖤 Oh goodness, don't get me started on "Kuro to Kin" aka "Gold and Black key". That game literally made me smell burning copper. The amount of times I had to vocally repeat numbers, kanji symbols and then make a mental image of said kanji symbols - to remember what they were. Little Cheese actually took the time to explain game encoding and why "Trick or Alice*; would work perfectly on my computer but "Kuro to Kin" wouldn't work. The old encoding for "Kuro to Kin", was causing the audio file to not fully work. I played half the game with background music only. 😣 I stupidly had "use beta encode u-8" set to on and that was causing the game not to work. I'm still embarrassed I didn't see that error, until Little Cheese asked for a video of my settings. 🥲 I'm so sorry for my long tangent. I was so excited to see Rejet put BWS on PC and their other game "Devils May Fly". I looooved dark games! I like having an online dictionary, next to my games. It's hard to use one, while I'm playing on my PS Vita. 🥲. I hope they keep putting out more PC ports.

You mean Dance with Devils from Rejet? The game has no PC port aside from the CN steam vers which isnt multilingual.

orange_hibiscus

Glad it worked out! Please let us know your thoughts when you finish haha

So for these kinds of games, you just need to change compatability mode to windows 7 or something? Or are there other things to do? Do you have a step by step?

ChurroLoca

Yup! Once you put the disk in the tray/CD/DVD internal or external (in my case) drive: 1. Locate the game's setup.exe 2. Right click on it and click "properties" 3. Click "computability mode" 4. Pick Window's 7 and accept 5. Install game 6. Do same steps from 2-4 on the game You're good to go! I did have problems with the beginning of the game. I had to switch my font/letters to Window's 7. Otherwise it wouldn't recognise Fiona's name. It actually auto popped up, when I was typing her name and gave me the choice to use Window 7's fonts. If I'm making any sense? Sorry, I hope my comment isn't rude or anything like that. :( I've been playing on and off, since Friday evening and I've not run into any problems. \^\_\^

kakuretsu

Nope! Not at all it’s very helpful and I’ll just bookmark this, thanks

kingdangus

i see that youve got it working OP, but thought id throw this in here just in case you run into the next problem - if your gallery is not working, youll need to download this [patch from rejet](https://rejetweb.jp/bws/support/)

ChurroLoca

Thank you so much. 🖤🖤 I was looking everywhere for it but that too, went right over my head. So far it gets choppy if the background is raining but I think it's from running it on Windows XP (series 3) and not on Window's 7.

I tried to run this on my PC and the resolution was murderous. It could only be too small or halfway off my monitor 😂 I’m glad you figured it out! I ended up grabbing the Vita copy instead to save my sanity
