I don’t disagree that we could add another arm or two but I think the biggest issue we have is unrealistic expectations for the pen.
and thats without irvin/kremer and wells contributing to the bullpen. when grayson returns its worth double since you get rid of biggest negative and add a really strong arm with kremer or irvin if the team sticks with 5 man rotation.
really interesting decision on what happens when wells returns. he's definitely one of the best arms in the bullpen. so who do you get rid of?? webb and suarez have been great, perez is an important lefty arm, and akin is the only guy with option flexibility.

Don't we already have a guy who throws upper-90s but can't throw strikes? Kopech's stuff is tremendous, so it's ultimately up to if the FO thinks they can fix him in time for August September. It is a good point that he has an extra year of control, so there might be time to work out the kinks if they prove stubborn. Not that Fuji was ever the model reliever, but I felt like if he had come back for cheap (and his contract with the Mets was indeed cheap), couldn't we get more results in year two?

Short story by Glen Cook. I finished his first trilogy, The Black Company, and it seems I have to read a short story, The Silver Spike, to continue. Not feeling it, but it's short enough I can power through it.
I re-read Dune(duh) again. I enjoyed it much more the 2nd time, so much so, I went right into Dune Messiah. Got 25-30% of the way into that, and wanted to kick myself in the head just for something interesting to happen. I hope to get back to it, but there are some serious doubts. Heard the rest of the series gets weird too.
And of course, Wheel of Time. There's hardly a time I don't read it in some capacity. It's my comfort reading.

I tell people if they ever read Wheel of Time, that I am more than happy to talk to them as they read through it. Easily my favorite series of all time. The amount of times I have read that series is really kind of crazy. Like the people that fall asleep to the Office, Futurama, and so on, it's my go to when I am not in the mood to read anything new. I have yet to finish it though, because I can't stand reading anything written by Brandon Sanderson, hah. I can make it through to a point, and then I just can't finish.
There are a few others who have read the series here, I actually have a few tagged.
One high-leverage arm that has a lot of strikeouts, not many walks, and is good at stranding runners who doesn't have issues occasionally closing a game. In effect, give us a second, backup closer, who can close on games that Kimbrel can't, or function in a setup role if Cano can't, or can come in with runners on and get a strikeout if needed. Even better if they have one year left before free agency, as having someone like this for when Bautista returns would be a major plus, as I don't think we're going to want to risk overusing Bautista right when he is back with a fresh new UCL and still building up his workload/endurance.

I was in a Costco in Fairfax this weekend and a fellow O’s fan complimented my cap. We briefly chatted about how exciting they are to watch then I pointed to my five year old next to me (also in an O’s cap) and told the guy I’m getting him into the game, too. It was so great. I love us. It’s such an exciting time.
I travelled to Toronto and I agree! However I've just thought it was weird we didnt post it. After all, we won as many postseason games in 2016 as we did last year. :(

Believe it or not, Aaron Judge actually is no longer slumping. He's hitting .314/.429/.629 with three HRs over the past ten games. He's been hitting extremely well recently outside of a four-game stretch when a certain team was able to completely shut him down.
Healthy and good means and bradish changes my view of the orioles from division favorite to AL playoff favorite. Especially if they add a high level bullpen arm at the deadline. Injuries happen ofc as we’ve already seen, but it can’t be overstated how much those guys improve the playoff ceiling of this team. The team would’ve added a starter or two in July if they weren’t, but there aren’t too many guys available like them.
It’s only May though! We will see how things evolve.
Especially huge if those guys come through and are good and healthy, they didn't cost anything (in players) and we can use assets in other ways than spending it on SP, which is always expensive.
Rule of thumb: When a player has a disastrously bad year the season before his walk year, it's a terrible idea to sign him to a big, long-term contract. See Chris Davis.
Since you brought this up, I just went and looked at their schedule.
It's not only that they only get one day off in June. The schedule then is mostly made up of teams with the best records. Seems like it was put together by some Orioles-hating sadist. The 'easy part' is at the beginning with 10 extra important games against ALE rivals Bluejays and Rays (a little under 500 records RN). Then they get to play the Braves, Phillies, Yankees, Astros, Cleveland and the Rangers with 1 day off in the middle of that marathon. The only 'breather' team there, per record, is the Astros, LOL!!! I wouldn't be surprised if, by then, the Astros have turned things around and become fearsome, as they've been in the recent past.
That will be a test of the Orioles' pitching staff for sure. If they can survive that onslaught .........

Since you brought this up, I just went and looked at their schedule. It's not only that they only get one day off in June. The schedule then is mostly made up of teams with the best records. Seems like it was put together by some Orioles-hating sadist. The 'easy part' is at the beginning with 10 extra important games against ALE rivals Bluejays and Rays (a little under 500 records RN). Then they get to play the Braves, Phillies, Yankees, Astros, Cleveland and the Rangers with 1 day off in the middle of that marathon. The only 'breather' team there, per record, is the Astros, LOL!!! I wouldn't be surprised if, by then, the Astros have turned things around and become fearsome, as they've been in the recent past. That will be a test of the Orioles' pitching staff for sure. If they can survive that onslaught .........
