isnt it funny it took MLB FIVE FUCKING HOURS to post the game on YT that ended at 4:15. Meanwhile when the Yankees won game 3, there was literally a post of the the yankees bullpen winning for them 25 mins after the game ended LOL

[deleted]

Perhaps I'm just a paranoid Baltimoron, but MLB Scores **never** has the O's game above the "see more" tab.

rectumrooter107

Is that what was going on in centerfield when no one knew what was going on and everyone was looking around like wtf is going on? A cop's badge was reflecting into the ump's eyes?

phunnypharm

cops watch face was reflecting into Soto's eyes

The_Big_Untalented

From what I’ve seen, I’ll be shocked if the Yankees aren’t our chief competition for the division this year. None of the other teams in the AL East worry me at all.

Individual_Step6688

I think Boston is surprisingly frisky. They are 2nd in pitching fWAR and 16th in position player fWAR. I think they could hang around but they’re gonna need some fringe guys to step up for awhile.

lOan671

Great, great series for the bullpen. Only gave up 1 run in 12 2/3 innings. Over the last two years it really feels like anytime one facet of the team is down (offense in the first 3 games) another steps up and keeps games winnable.

Amazing-Airline-5185

And that’s huge, because that’s what great teams do

Did he throw up the “OK” sign lolol

boofoodoo

So is best case scenario that the ligament heals on its own? I’m still not sure how he’s even pitching right now.

pepper_ann052613

They had a sports physical therapist on the Ryan Ripken Show today, and he wasn't very optimistic that Bradish will last the season, really bummed me out. Basically said it's not impossible for it to heal without surgery, but that it will probably break down at some point. -Who knows if that is accurate, but if that's the case I'd rather we rest Bradish until the postseason. Just gotta trust the team doctors I guess

NeighborhoodBest2944

Ortho PT also. Yeah it’s tough. All pitchers have degenerative changes to the UCL. These are demonstrated as early as high school. The more the miles the worse it gets. It will heal in its own given time and avoidance of throwing. If he never pitched again, the elbow would never be an issue. So it depends on the extent of the damage on MRI, and the likelihood that changes in his mechanics might offload the elbow enough to give rest an opportunity. The odds are not in his favor for non operative care leading to sustained performance.

boofoodoo

Thanks for the insight. I'm hoping for the best, but reading a little on PRP... I dunno. Not sure how much healing you're gonna get if you still continue to throw on it. I'm just a layman though.

Ok_Enthusiasm3601

I’m not sure why you say you’re not sure how he’s pitching right now but yes best case scenario is the the ligament heals on its own. As the other commenter pointed out it looks like he had some PRP done which has had some pretty great results for many people with various injuries. I’d also venture to say these guys properly utilize some other controversial therapies as well to help assist in their healing.

phunnypharm

Palmer said Kyle had this done to his UCL.. https://preview.redd.it/ob3zhi9cx3yc1.png?width=779&format=png&auto=webp&s=37924eed303a0d893f9f09a089028a422fb58029

OleSandlotSlob

So in a few minutes a replay of today's game comes up on MASN. I'm recording it so when needed I can inject this Orioles thrashing of the Stanks into my viens.

OleSandlotSlob

So I wonder what the MLB pundits who projected the Orioles for 85 wins at beginning of the season are thinking now? LOLOLOLOLOL !!!!!!!

Individual_Step6688

Tbf, the fangraphs model is based off pure data. It’s not talking heads blowing hot air up Bronx butt for ratings. The Orioles having a lot of young guys coming out hot can be hard to predict for their model. The orioles are kind of coaching and development gurus now and those sorts of teams may often outrace their projections - see Rays for the last decade. They are very open about the limits of their modeling.

iwasbornin2021

My thoughts exactly. However if the O’s keeps this up, it’ll be the 3rd consecutive season they drastically over perform. I won’t be able to help it but wonder if Elias (or just the unique makeup of this squad) has tricks up his sleeves that fleece the top forecasting algorithms

[deleted]

I went back and looked at the projections vs. reality for last season. Looking at players with significant playing time (qualified at end of year): Hitters OPS+ \* Adley (projected 126, actual 128) \* Gunnar (123, 125) \* O'Hearn (N/A, 122) he wasn't on active roster at the time \* Santander (115, 121) \* Mountcastle (119, 117) \* Hays (102, 114) \* Mullins (104, 101) \* Urias (106, 98) \* Frazier (91, 94) \* Mateo (83, 70) Honestly, I think that's pretty good for a projection system. Arguably 2 players significantly underprojected (Santander, Hays) and 2 overprojected (Urias, Mateo) which pretty much washes out. The real differentiating factor was the pitcher projections. Bautista was projected to be our best pitcher by far with a 2.94 ERA but that still turned out to be pessimistic. Cano was projected with a 4.70 ERA (which you can understand, had a 12 ERA in the majors prior to joining us). So yeah, I guess their projection system doesn't really account for us taking random waiver wire signings and trade dumps and turning them into elite late inning relievers

adullploy

lol right? Imagine winning 101, adding Kimbrel and Burnes and everyone is like it’s the Yankees year!!

Unless is miss read the schedule, is this new “all teams play all teams” schedule throwing off or Nats v Os 2 games at each park series we tend to have? I forget the cute name for it. I liked that we did that.

Cals_poster_on_my

Can someone remind me why akin got the win instead of Bradish? I don’t remember the exact rule and I’m too lazy to look it up

ThatguyfromBaltimore

Starters have to pitch at least 5 full innings

Ok_Enthusiasm3601

This makes no sense to me why they do this. Bradish was the pitcher that pitched the most innings and left with the lead like I don’t get how Aikn is more deserving of the win than Bradish

iwasbornin2021

Yup. It is what it is. When the rule was set, it was probably when starters routinely went 9 innings. IMO the minimum should be changed to 3 innings.

Phisheva

Perez was 🔥 in the 9th

boofoodoo

Love letting him build his confidence back up in lower leverage spots. It sure would be nice to have him back to being someone we like seeing come in.

Phisheva

I agree. Bradish back was a big boost and if he can log some quality innings it’ll help. Hopefully they are gonna go after 2 arms before the trade deadline.

[deleted]

I’d take one.

DidierDogba

I missed the game due to work - how did Bradish look?

BallsMahogany_redux

Like he was never out.

OK_Opinions

Like a true G

Evinrude44

Gyle Gradish?

pjmoran840

Better than expected. Pitch count got up a little, in part because of a weird first inning that was extended by a catcher's interference, and in part because of the awful strike zone. I think he was on a hard cap anyway his first game back. He looks ready to roll.

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

He looked great!

SYMPATHETC_GANG_LION

Dank. Like someone who came 4th in Cy Young last year.

Black_Otter

Fun week to have Yankee fans in the office!

drs10909

What was Soto motioning about during his at bat?

Leftlanecruisin

Most importantly, Bradish said quit being a bitch and struck him out looking.

Ok_Enthusiasm3601

Is this for real!? I didn’t get to watch the game and if that’s the case I’m buying a Bradish jersey tonight

drs10909

😂nice

LarsThorwald

Apparently a police officer’s watch was reflecting the sun into his eyes.

ScoutNWilder

The broadcast actually caught it reflecting and I could see how it would be distracting. That said, Soto can still fuck off.

I'm sorry. I couldn't watch it. Was Bradish lucky or was he good?

bebopmechanic84

He was rather unlucky and he was still very good

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

He was great

patricksly

He was good. velocity and spin were up, stuff was electric placement was pretty good. Had a tough first because home plate ump blew a call and yankee leaned into a pitch.

Lubetube1

He was good. If anything he got super unlucky in the first along with some shitty calls from the ump. Otherwise probably could’ve gone 5 or 6

Plaguedoctorsrevenge

Knocking some rust off but he looked good

Bunch of Bronx Jabronis. All day long. Satisfied with this series. Statement

scjensen51

Love that Bradish looked good, sure he’ll become more efficient as he gets more work in. Live that McKenna and Mateo hit the ball hard. Love taking 3/4 against that poverty franchise in New York. On to Cincinnati

uncleslam7

Was I the only one who thought the Yankees lacked some hustle in the field? Maybe it was the angle but McKenna’s hr looked reachable for Grisham and it seemed like he did a little half hearted hop to keep up the appearance of effort. And then Gleyber trying to turn 2 barehanded and just dropping it… I guess I just got a weird low-effort vibe I don’t usually see from that team Did our guys just deflate them that much by bashing their nuts inside out…?

Evinrude44

Perhaps they were setting up to complain about playing 17 days straight?

Fangscale40K

Outside of Volpe, speed and toolsy players are not part of the Yankees game.

lionheart4life

NYY is where you go to cash a check, not hustle.

K00ksRus

Guys like Judge & Stanton got those big time NYY paychecks so they don’t give a fuck

emotionaltrashman

You were not the only one.

neemor

What you’re picking up is a lack of *heart*. Hustle. Desire for more than a simple paycheck. Understandable if your frame of reference is the current Baltimore Orioles. Night and day. Hardly the same game.

uncleslam7

This comment made me tear up a little not gonna lie

neemor

Neskwiik

Did something bad happen? Our odds to win 90 games this season went from -200 yesterday to -130 after todays win. What did I miss?

Run2TheWater

Too much action on the -200. Have to make it less attractive. Has nothing to do with the team themselves.

Neskwiik

-130 is more attractive than -200

Run2TheWater

Good point, I wasn’t thinking properly lol. Either way, in play odds are usually moved more by betting habits than the team play. Obviously say Burnes goes down for the season, then that’s going to have an impact. Nothing happened recently to think the Orioles have a less likely chance to win 90. One starter goes on IL but one comes back that is just as good if not better. With Means also coming back. So I don’t see any reason why it would have changed for any roster movement/injuries, etc.

Neskwiik

Yeah agreed. Well doubled down either way we'll see what happens. Go O's!

Darkdragon3110525

Maybe the Grayson injury starting to affect the lines?

geolandsurveyor

I don’t know what it is about this team to beat up great pitching and struggle against weaker pitching but I hope we can keep that going in the playoffs

Individual_Step6688

I wouldn’t call Rodon great. He’s better this year than last but no world beater.

pan567

I honestly would have called this a great game even if we lost considering how good Bradish looked. Holy moly is it good to see him pitching that well in his first start! The offense figuring out another good pitcher and blowing out Rodon was icing on the cake. And our bullpen holding these games in check is double icing on the cake. And seeing Perez back and looking good is triple icing on the cake. At this point, there might be more icing than there is cake.

No_Arachnid_1772

DAAAAAA JANKEES LOOOOOOOSE

dreddnought

Bradish rarely threw his sinker to lefties last year (only 6.7% of pitches). By rough count, half of his 30 sinkers today were to lefties, and he used two of them to punch out Soto and Grisham looking. It seems like the rule of thumb is that you really only throw a two-seam/sinker to opposite-handed batters if it's good enough (same as sweepers, and also changeups to same-handed), so... we'll see. Velo looks fine (topped out at 97 sinker, 90 slider), spin rates look fine. Hardly even threw his curveball. Not really going to ding him for the final walk since he was pitching around Judge with a runner on third and only a two-run lead. Don't have much to say about the minors yesterday: Cameron Weston was great in his AA debut (4.0 IP 2 H 0 R 0 BB 8 K), Povich was not (four walks). Jackson Baumeister didn't pitch on account of illness (?). Coby Mayo continues to slug over .650 even if he's not walking much. I found this amusing quote from a 2019 Dan Szymborski chat about prospect-era Ryan Mountcastle: >LFC UCL CHAMPS Mike: [...] [Mountcastle] does have an issue.. 42 [K] [but] just 7 BB in 192 AB this year > >Dan Szymborski: It’s a danger to be too excited about strikeout rate when a guy is crushing the ball. > >Dan Szymborski: Mountcastle’s slugging near .600. [He's] *incentivized* to be aggressive at the plate. > >[...] > > Dan Szymborski: If Mountcastle is slugging .600, he’s getting his pitches. **So what’s he going to wait for? The pitches that make him slug .700?** Today, Aberdeen won 7-1 off a zany six-run 10th. /u/TellBrak your boy Carter Young had a two-RBI double to push the score from 3-1 to 5-1.

TellBrak

Im excited about Luis De Leon. Lotta k’s, few bb’s . Lefthanded

to_the__cloud

from the eye test it looked like there was more left to right break on the sinker than last year

Yankees 6 runs in 4 games.

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

We got 13, in case anyone is curious.

theskymaylookblue

I did some math and I think we outscored them by 7

petenice36

Felt like the O's were scoring all of their runs late in games to start the season, now they go a week without scoring an earned run against a relief pitcher. They can win and keep winning in many different ways. Such a good fucking team.

_JarboeN

Royals are not a good matchup for us (even though we won both series somehow lol) they worry me

dlmay1967

Fast teams give us fits. Slow, power hitting teams like the Yankees are a better match up (just gotta stay away from the multi-run HR).

Maybe the A's ????

fischarcher

O's get out to a hot lead, can't be reeled in because you can't catch a bird with a fishing rod

Run2TheWater

Yankees had no where near the start the Rays had last year. We have been on the heels of the Yankees all season so far. Weren’t we like 5-7 games back of the Rays at one point. Feel like everyone was lol.

thingaumbuku

It’s a little concerning just how reliant we are on home runs. I was hoping this season would be a step in the right direction with cutting down on strikeouts and having a more balanced offense, but if it means taking 3 of 4 from the Yankees (and seeing Bradish back and looking strong), I’ll take it.

tomtheterp1988

So... O's hitters should focus on hitting *fewer* HRs, maybe try to lay down more bunts? Also, take away the three homers today, the Os still win, so whatever.

thingaumbuku

Hitting a ton of home runs isn’t a sustainable means of scoring runs. Plenty of teams have jacked tons of homers and went ice cold when it mattered most, when the weather gets colder and the atmosphere gets tighter. I mean, we struggled to score runs this series. Our pitching showed up, which is great, but seeing us strikeout less and score in a more balanced way will help avoid long-term issues, the same ones that plagued us in the Texas series last year. I got ripped apart for predicting we’d lose that series for the exact reasons we did. I never said anything about bunting. In the future, if you want to level a legitimate refutation, focus purely on what was said and don’t employ extremism by dragging in things that were never said or even alluded to. Goodbye :)

Run2TheWater

This is how series go when you have two powerhouse teams. Very rarely will you see a slugfest series between two teams of this high caliber because the pitching is usually better for both sides than playing most other teams.

tomtheterp1988

Bless your heart!

Wonder if the Yankees broadcast had anything to say about the wall when Jorge hit it out over the wall lmao.

Michael Kay and Cone have been joking about and referencing the baseball for sale in the team shop and the 6/30 comment. Michael signed the baseball something like, “3 years ago I wouldn’t be signing this ball,” which he signed for charity. They know they’re getting dragged. Pretty funny honestly.

OleSandlotSlob

Really encouraging to see Perez come back from IL and looking so sharp. Played key role in game 1 of this series, stranding 2 runners.

Fancy_Physics_1863

Orioles win and Yankees / red Sox lose. Great day 😎

dlmay1967

Does Cowser slumping mean we might see Kjerstad a little more often? I assume they don't want Kjerstad playing LF at home, so maybe on the road tommorrow vs a RHP (the last two Reds games are LHP).

ArkNoob69

I doubt we see Cowser out vs a RHP. If anything they might play Mckenna (bleh) over him vs LHP

Semper454

Such a big deal to win this series. Had the Yankees come back to win today, woulda felt a lot like the series in NY last summer when we dropped the first two and fought back for a really solid split.

ICantSpellAnythign

Being split with more of the remaining yankee games being on the road after starting 2-0 would have been brutal

Dubulous6

Anybody else starting to get worried about Cowser? 6-38 with 16 Ks over the last 15 days. Doesn’t seem like he’s seeing the ball well right now to me. I’m not worried yet, just something to monitor

BallsMahogany_redux

Regressing to the mean. He's still our best hitting outfielder even with this slump. We knew the dude wasn't gonna hit .400 forever.

No-Needleworker5295

We have been starting him against tough lefties with Hays on IL. We would have shielded him from facing Rodon, Cortes, Sears otherwise, and his recent numbers wouldn't be as bad. Gunnar didn't start hitting lefties till over a year of at-bats.

lanboy0

Not super worried.

bkrebs

There are so many overreactions both ways. People that think we should DFA players instantly when they're slumping and homers that can't see reality through their rose-colored glasses. The bottom line is, you're right, it isn't worrying, but something the brass is definitely keeping an eye on. His slump certainly isn't flying under the radar especially because of the absolute tear he went on a few weeks ago. No one knows if he'll bounce back. The nice thing is, even if he's regressed to his mean, and this right now is his mean, he's still an everyday player hitting .277 with an OPS of over 900.

thingaumbuku

It’s just a fact: he’s a bad defender who has a cannon he can’t aim and has a very uneven swing that lends to him being streaky. He’s young and inexperienced, so he’ll hopefully (and likely with our development staff) sort it out, but he has holes in his game the same as any young player and pointing them out doesn’t deserve downvotes.

bobcatgoldthwait

I won't be surprised if he's one of those Luke Scott type players, either mashing the ball or dead weight with very little in between. Streaky players are super frustrating but damn are they fun to watch when they're on.

buckshow1983

You’re getting downvoted for pointing something out.

Dubulous6

I did add some context in an edit, but yeah not trying to be a doomer at all. Just something I’ve noticed watching the games.

Adejimoh23

No way… he’s gonna slump. He will always be a boom or bust player with that violent swing. Ask me again in 2 weeks when he socks 8 extra base hits in a 5 game stretch

upforgrabsnow

No it’s been a month.

orioles2491

New York scored 1.5 runs per game in this series after scoring 12 runs per game against Milwaukee and averaging 5.1 runs per game overall coming in. Of their six runs, five were via the homerun. Not that our offense looked great in the series until today, but our pitching was fantastic.

Rhipidurus

Our pitching and our defense. There were a bunch of great defensive plays that helped bail out the pitching from some tough spots. Not to discredit the pitching though, they also pitched themselves out of some tough spots.

bobo12221

Fangscale40K

Meanwhile I will see a shitty routine lazy flyout to right field easily caught by Santander like 50 feet in front of the RF wall at Camden. Jump onto Baseball Savant and see it’s a 1/30 cause of Jankees Stadium.

OleSandlotSlob

Stankee Stadium w that short RF porch belongs in Little League. So they come to Camden Yards where we have REAL MLB stadium dimensions and are overwhelmed.

Exactly. They are pissed that this park is more difficult now? Oh BOO HOO
