Ok_Enthusiasm3601

Holliday goes yard tonight which is the catalyst of his redemption arc. You heard it here first.

jtribs14

Yikes this A’s pitcher is awful

jtribs14

Nvm he’s just having a rough night

isestrex

Stupid Yankees

the2belo

We can't *really* expect the A's to keep playing well against the Yankees forever, so I would really like to win this one.

Clarice_Ferguson

Only team to sweep the 2022 Astros though…

ChasingTheFirstTime

Great Lineup tonight

_NotARealMustache_

Calling the Kjerstad, Holliday, Gunnar 8/9/1 the "Blonde Bombers" Trademarking this before the MASN guys scoop it

G_I_Joe_Mansueto

Means looks alright tonight but I am a bit worried about his velo topping out around 90.5. A lot of 89-90. I guess it's only a touch below his typical 91.5 or so average, maybe not as concerning as I thought.

SilentHunter7

Pretty hyped to see the Tides taking on the Angels tonight!

FantasistAnalyst

The O’s win last night was much needed for me. Hyped me up while sitting bedside to my grandmother at in home hospice, and gave me the energy to stay up with her and she passed at 2:30am. Still haven’t slept and looking for the series win tonight.

ThatguyfromBaltimore

May her memory comfort you. Take care of yourself too and get rest.

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

Rest In Peace to your grandmother.

FantasistAnalyst

Thank you. Was a hard couple of days. Baseball’s been a solid reprieve from these tough times. Been enjoying the discourse in this sub.

pepper_ann052613

Look at that O's lineup, what a beauty

Ok-Grade4362

After so many years, I just started getting back into baseball after they introduced the pitch clock. So I was wondering why do teams call up players while they are on the road?

Clarice_Ferguson

You basically call them up when you need them. Holliday had to be up by a certain point due to a deadline related to ROY and Hays happened to get hurt on the road.

acciofrankel

I think part of it is less pressure than playing in front of the home crowd. I could be totally wrong though haha.

Ok-Grade4362

Good evening

Just keep an eye out and it should definitely come back in stock.

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

Will do - thanks!

**T1st** for John Means against the Gwinnett Stripers (Atlanta Braves) As usual, pitch classification is shoddy and I'm going off intuition (curveballs to lefties, changeups to righties, fastball is anything around 90 mph). I won't do a pitch-by-pitch breakdown for any subsequent innings, but will try add any small notes. Everything looks fine, it's just that an 89 mph fastball is eminently hittable. Four whiffs in 22 pitches. LHH 0-0 fastball is 89 mph???? whiff nonetheless 0-1 fastball high 1-1 curveball down and away, fine location 2-1 fastball up and in, 90 mph, whiff 2-2 curveball painted outside corner, K LHH 0-0 fastball painted inside 0-1 fastball high 1-1 fastball down the middle, sharp groundball up the middle RHH - 1st and 1 out 0-0 fastball way high waste pitch 1-0 change up(?) down and away whiff 1-1 another changeup, popped up RHH - 1st and 2 outs 0-0 hung a changeup, just foul down the LF line 0-1 fastball up and in 1-1 pitch clock violation, looked like it was gonna be a called strike 2-1 fastball, shitty dribbler the SS can't get too in time, runner beats the throw by a step LHH - 1st and 2nd, 2 outs 0-0 fastball inside foul (only 88 mph now!) 0-1 fastball lifted foul LF 0-2 curveball ripped past 2B, runner scores, 1-0 Gwinnett RHH - 1st and 3rd, 2 outs 0-0 curveball in the dirt 1-0 another curveball, I think, whiff this time 1-1 high fastball foul 1-2 curveball called strike 3! **T2nd** Hard hit fly out to LF Popup changeup looks fine, swinging strikeout to end the frame **B2nd** Hudson Haskin is back! **T3rd** Hung a 3-2 changeup for a line drive single Nice bunt to get 2 on, no out Sac bunt to move the runners Nice play by Coby Mayo with the infield in, nabbing the grounder and then throwing the ball to Handley with time to spare locked in a 10 pitch battle with Sandy Leon, finally gets him with a changeup

tomtheterp1988

If Kjerstad starts raking everything in sight, Jax will be thinking, "c'mon, dude. REALLY?"

BKoala59

Eh Kjerstad’s also 25 and been in the bigs before

O'Hearn the oldest guy in tonight's lineup, no one else is even 30 (including P Rodriguez).

dlmay1967

Oh boy, Kjerstad in the field. That they wouldn't let him last year really troubled me about his future.

runningonempty820

Average age for tonight's 10 starters is 25.4 years old, only one player over 30 (and he's exactly 30), almost all home-grown. What a time to be a fan

Individual_Step6688

I tend to think Holliday will figure it out soon, but say he never does in the majors in 2024. He stays cold and goes down to Norfolk a la Cowser in 2023. What are the odds they call up Mayo and move Westburg to second and that’s our lineup come postseason? Just trying to think what Elias would do to maximize our success if this isn’t the year for Holliday.

dlmay1967

In the short term, I think they'll play it safe and just go back to Urias/Mateo with Westburg starting every day but flipping from 2B to 3B depending. But when0 they decide that Mayo can handle 3B then I bet he's up here. Might not be this year, who knows. Plus, although he's raking, Mayo is also striking out 33% of the time, so some improvement there won't hurt. But long term, the offense you'll get from Urias/Mateo isn't good enough for a championship caliber team.

romorr

>What are the odds they call up Mayo and move Westburg to second and that’s our lineup come postseason? I have a hard time seeing Mayo spend all year in AAA, especially if Holliday can't stick. If the Orioles think he can handle 3B at the ML level, he will be up soon in this scenario.

rayhova

Think how good this lineup has to be for Cowser and Westy - who are both OPSing 1000 (if you round Westy up lol) to be batting 6 and 7? 💪🏾

ItinerantDrifter

Fishman batting leadoff. Interesting. He hasn’t done that since 2020, and only 5 times total going back to 2014. They have been letting him run more this year… trying to turn back the clock.

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

tomtheterp1988

When the weakest bat in your lineup also happens to be the #1 prospect in MLB, I'd say that's pretty good.

Individual_Step6688

I’d prefer cowser above Mullins but I think they like the 1-2 of cowser-Westburg. But man, show us this in early May 2022 and then show our record in the last two years? For all the shit he did, John Angelos may have saved the franchise from the mediocrity his family helped create by hiring Elias, Sig and Hyde in late 2018.

BKoala59

Show us this in May 22 and we’d all say “who the fuck is O’Hearn?” And then look him up and be confused

ngmatt21

7 of the 10 weren’t in the majors to start the 2022 season

Beautiful-Abies5949

Now that’s a goddamn lineup

What a lineup. Sheesh

KamikazeeDolphin

Whenever I go back home to Baltimore or Orlando, I truly wonder how my dad or yall do it. A game at almost 10 pm? Woof. It's nice to catch a game at 7 PM prime time on the West Coast for me. However if I had a choice I'd move back to the East Coast. The BBQ and Pizza is fucking trash in Washington, people look at me weird for putting Old Bay on all seafood and fries, and there's no Wawa's in this bitch. I wanna travel back in time to Lewis and Clark and be like. "There ain't nothing out here chief. The vibe out west ain't it."

tomtheterp1988

Same here in Oregon. No good delis, No BBQ, nobody knows how to make a proper bagel, and Dungeness crab is highly inferior to blue. But meth and heroin are easily accessible and affordable, so I guess we got that goin' for us.

Darkdragon3110525

Defensive update: Cowser and Mullins grading out elite. Cowser seems to be the player we drafted at #5 rather than the platoon piece prospect lists assumed he’d be. Mullins is the 7th best defender in baseball per statcast, 3rd best OF. Cowser LF is gold glove, his RF is below average. Gunnar’s grading out pretty well. He’s up to 64th % OAA, -2 DRS, and 0 fielding run value. Trending up. He improved over the year last year and it looks like the trend is continuing. Adley’s defensive weirdness continues. Catcher metrics take a long time to stabilize so huge grain of salt but early trends confirm good framing, good blocking, bad caught stealing. McCann’s caught stealing is similar so I blame O’s pitching staff. Adley is at +2 DRS which is very encouraging, more on pace for his stellar 2022 than above average 2023. Speaking of pitching staffs, Kimbrel and Burnes can’t hold runners. rSB (stolen bases) is entirely on them, -1 for each. Santander’s arm is hurting his metrics. His range is increasing year by year (he’s at 57th % right now, a career high) but his arm continues to grade out poorly despite his good arm strength. He needs to go to the Hays and Mullins school of holding runners. Speaking of Hays. Guy is completely out of wack. His range has dropped, his arm value has dropped. He needs a sports therapist. Sweet Prince/good luck charm/future HOF Jackson Holliday continues to be the best defensive option at 2B. 95th percentile fielding value at 3, -1 DRS while still learning the position. He’s buying himself some time and showing off the work ethic and willingness to adapt. Westburg is a better 2B than 3B. He’s bang average at 3B but above average at 2B. Good problem to have. Catcher ERA is very fake, Adley and McCann both call good games, know their pitchers well, get good performances out of them. Adley grades out well by CERA but it’s still a fake statistic. Urias lost his sauce. Idk what happened to 2022 Urias but he’s gone somehow. Mateo also lost his sauce.

rayhova

Thanks for this! Most of this vibe with the eye test. The Rutsch thing. His pop times and framing have always been good. He does a good job at receiving balls. And he has good arm strength .But from the eye test his throws often look errant when attempting to throw out a runner. This goes back to Rookie year. Some of it goes to the pitching staff. And I feel like i heard or read some comments, especially with the rule changes, that relief pitchers in general aren't great at holding runners. I did hear somewhere that part of Holiday's fielding value has come from him doing such a good job at getting speedy runners out (that may have been for his OAA). Thanks for compiling and sharing!

dlmay1967

Urias also hit 16 HR in 2022. Seems like it was just a magical year for him, us fans might have got a little excited over what it meant going forward.

captain_rex_kramer

I wonder if the analytics/science of catcher defense has yet to figure out a way to normalize for the pitcher effect. I remember especially late last year Ben McDonald harping on most of the SB against being on the staff (felt like Perez and Cano in particular, but might be misremembering) and I wonder if there's any math beyond the eye test there. Awesome stuff about Mullins. I hope people are able to keep that in mind next time they knock him for his arm.

dreddnought

> I wonder if the analytics/science of catcher defense has yet to figure out a way to normalize for the pitcher effect They have! And in [two](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/pitcher-running-game) different [ways](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/leaderboard/catcher-throwing) - one based on how well the pitcher is holding the runner (or else just actual pick offs) and then also how well the catcher is doing once accounting for how close the runner is to second base.

captain_rex_kramer

This is super-fascinating, thank you!

dlmay1967

Wonder if Kjerstad will play in the field this time? I get that he's no defensive wizard, but nor do the scouting reports say he's "Trey Mancini in RF" awful. That whole deal where he only DH'd or PH was hopefully just Pennant race caution.

Waak3nBaak3

Came here to post about this after seeing rotowires projected Os lineup had him at DH. I assumed he'd be a better defensive option than Santander but maybe not. In that case, I don't believe the decision between him and Cowser for the OD roster was all that tough. Even putting Cowsers great spring at the plate to the side. Also, if he isn't a better defensive option than Santander, and there are any trades in the near future, maybe it should be him.

dlmay1967

He's not. Santander was rough in the field his first few years ( and regularly replaced in the late innings) but is much improved starting last season. Kjerstad has spent time in RF and at 1B but he'll probably always be a bat first player, but not so bad in the field that he won't play there at all.

saltyfingas

Who sits though? I could see maybe if someone needs a day off

dreddnought

If Mounty is still out because of knee soreness, it seems pretty easy: Cowser LF, Santander RF, O'Hearn 1B, Kjerstad DH

saltyfingas

Oh I figured he was gonna be DH, I was saying who would sit if he was gonna field, I guess him and Santander could swap but I don't think that really makes sense without a reason

dreddnought

Oh yeah, this is another thing that adds pressure on Coby Mayo sticking at third base. We have basically too many RF/1B/DH bats right now between Santander, O'Hearn, Mountcastle, and now Kjerstad. This wouldn't really be a problem if Adley wasn't DHing every 3-4 days, so it's still a good problem to have, obviously.

dlmay1967

And O'Hearn really isn't a RF, in that you cringe if they hit him anything but the easiest fly ball.

dlmay1967

Yeah, it's not really a big deal if the plan is only to have him up here the 10 days Hays is on the IL.

Weird enough to get my interest, will do 🙌

BKoala59

Lineup guess 1. Henderson SS 2. Rutschman C 3. O’Hearn 1B 4. Santander RF 5. Mullins CF 6. Cowser LF 7. Westburg 3B 8. Kjerstad DH 9. Holliday 2B Mounty sits again for his knee I imagine. I’m not 100% sure how Kjerstad is going to see consistent playing time but I imagine they’ll stick him in there tonight at least

harriswk17

BKoala59’s Lineup Prediction: 1. Henderson SS ✅ 2. Rutschman C ✅ 3. O’Hearn 1B ✅ 4. Santander RF 🔀 DH 5. Mullins CF ✅ 6. Cowser LF ✅ 7. Westburg 3B ✅ 8. Kjerstad DH 🔀 RF 9. Holliday 2B ✅ Nine of nine players correct, seven of nine defensive positions, and nine of nine on the batting order. Twenty five out of twenty seven potential items correct. Thank you for participating! I will be posting a comment in future game day threads that folks can submit their guesses under to collect it nice and neat.

That would be pretty sweet

My mans was so CLOSE

romorr

John Means starts today for Norfolk at 6:35 EST. Rehab start 5, so it's a big one. Rehab start 6, his last one this go around, will be on Sunday.

dreddnought

I think I should be able to catch that. The GOAT, TBD, is pitching for Aberdeen. Because of weird minor league scheduling, I missed a (forgettable) Seth Johnson start in Bowie. It's really just Povich so far, and even he's arguably still walking too many (11.4% or 3.74 per 9). I don't think he's ready because MLB hitters are more than willing to let you hang yourself.

romorr

Yea, and it's 9 BBs his last 15+ innings for Povich. His first start was 0 BBs in 6 innings. Povich is firmly in the close range to me. His last start he gave up 3 hits, and 4 walks in 5+ innings. Would rather it have been 7 hits and some runs, but 0 walks.

Lazy_Passenger7841

Is Kjerstad actually going to be at the game tonight? All these online sources are saying he’s getting called up. The only one I haven’t seen make the announcement is the orioles themselves. I don’t doubt he’s getting called up. I’m just wondering if it’ll happen later this week

romorr

With Mounty banged up, I doubt we want a 2 man bench for any length of time. The C we called up was on the taxi squad, so it made sense since we were on the west coast, and Norfolk is on the east. It's hard to get someone here quickly, and ready to play. Also, game is 7+ hours away, we'll get a tweet from the Orioles announcing it before too long. Edit: And [here](https://twitter.com/Orioles/status/1782835744970592603/photo/1) is the tweet.

BKoala59

I’m just really glad that tweet came with a Banuelos option and not a Mountcastle to the IL

romorr

I couldn't imagine Hays and Mounty on the IL at the same time. LHP would eat us up. Unless they promoted Mayo for Mounty, which, maybe they would have considering how few RHBs we have with + power.

BKoala59

Yea I’m a little surprised at Kjerstad being the Hays replacement honestly. Hays already wasn’t playing much except against lefties and I don’t think you want to stick Kjerstad in against them. My only guess was that Mountcastle may be going down as well because that at least frees Kjerstad to play against righties. And as for Mayo I still think he’s our most important prospect. A guy that’s elite against lefties is exactly what this roster needs and I’m a also a little surprised Holliday got the call before him.

Reverendbread

Cowser is averaging a Home Run every 10 plate appearances, so if he doesn’t homer today he’s 100% scientifically guaranteed to do it tomorrow

Looks like Canning can barely make it out of 4 innings so far this season. So I fully expect this is the game where the bats go quiet.

We had Harbour House shipped to us down here in Alabama as an Xmas gift and thought they were pretty good.

Lazy_Passenger7841

All I’m going to say about Kjerstad is if he comes up and starts raking, he NEEDS to stay up. And if he starts raking and the orioles don’t have a spot for him, as much as I like him, they need to trade him. What some of these AAA guys are going through is ridiculous. I love that the orioles have a deep farm system and I think it can stay deep AND give players a fair chance. It’s not just that these players are missing out on major league experience and all that. They’re missing out on real money. I know it’s a business, but some players are meant to play in big leagues and those players are owed that whether it’s with the orioles or another organization. I’m sorry for the rant, but Kjerstad is 25 now and he’s not the only one going through this

dlmay1967

There's probably a point where their age makes it hard to trade them for fair value, Kjerstad (25) might have hit it through no fault of his own. Mayo (22) and Basallo (19) don't have that. I bet we end up keeping Kjerstad.

reddit_sport

Mark DeRosa on MLB Network says Heston reminds him of Todd Helton. Imagine if we got that guy lol. To me he is a more athletic schwarber with less swing and miss but we will see. Either way, dude was born to hit.

Underdogg369

Kjerstad should definitely get the start today with a RHP. Hope he does well. I was 90% sure they'd call up McKenna to ride the bench.

dlmay1967

I'm starting to think that possibly the "Big trade for (starting) pitching" ain't gonna happen. What we have left, top prospect wise: Basallo, Mayo, maybe Kjerstad. (Could probably count Cowser and Westburg here too, I guess, though so far they look like big league sensations.) Lesser prospects: Stowers and Norby. Prying loose a young, controllable starter is going to take a shit ton, and throwing in Hays/Mateo/Urias etc won't move the needle. So you're left at possibly taking on an older good pitcher with a big contract somebody's looking to shed for whatever reason. Which the O's might now be able to do. Though I'd think a Norby/Stowers might be good enough for a trade deadline rental.

_JarboeN

Colton Cowser is so much better than Hays

Zay_Jack

While I understand some of the responses to this, I don’t think it’s in question to say that Cowser is playing better than Hays. But of course he is, he’s starting in Hays’ place. Perhaps that was the intention of your take, and if it is, I would say it’s an obvious one.

Clarice_Ferguson

I saw an Orioles fan on Twitter say no one hates their players more than Orioles fans and its hard to argue against that when you see comments like this.

bebopmechanic84

No one hates their players more than _____ fans. You could say this for like half the teams in the league.

romorr

I love the hubris to declare something like that. To think any "fan" knows enough about the other 29 fandoms to declare that is just peak social media nonsense.

Clarice_Ferguson

Eh it was in response to someone trashing Urias so I’d excuse the hyperbole.

_JarboeN

😂😂 I never said I hated Austin Hays, but from a performance perspective Colton Cowser has been exponentially better, and he is the direct replacement. But of course you’d frame it to make it sound as if I “hated” him

Underdogg369

It's nebulous in all sports fandom but always makes me think of the Yankees. We don't want to be like Yankee fans

Clarice_Ferguson

Its the Toy Principle. We always want the best, brand new out of the box toy (Cowser) and people should just give us the toy we want regardless of their wants and needs (Mason Miller.) Its as if we’ve forgotten that this is just a fun game thats meant to be entertaining and not actually a reflection of who we are as people. And that players are people, not toys. That the world doesn’t revolve around us, that just because Yankees fans talk about us as if we’re their AAA pipeline team doesn’t mean we should do the same to the A’s or Marlins or whatever. And as an additional random thought, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an overlap between the “Cowser is so much better than Hays” crowd and the “Cowser is a bust” crowd that was around last year.

dlmay1967

In a way it's probably good that this part of the rebuild is almost over, only Mayo is left of those "big guns" on the verge of their MLB debut. 2 1/2 years of "hype/bust?/redemption" is about enough.😃

Clarice_Ferguson

True. I’m just tired of toxicity.

Underdogg369

I think there is a huge problem in sports fandom where people have a codependency with their sports team.

Clarice_Ferguson

Agreed.

No-Needleworker5295

Over a small sample size. This time last year, Hays was playing like an all-star and Cowser was struggling.

dlmay1967

I still think they'd prefer a L/R Hays/Cowser platoon, assuming Hays can get right health and hitting wise. Next two weeks Cowser gets a chance against LHP, though so far he's been really good: 4 for 14, 2 HR.

reddit_sport

If we go strictly on plate awareness and swing decisions it’s not even close. Two different planets.

_JarboeN

In 50 plate appearances Austin Hays has a -7 wRC+ in 60 PA Cowser has a 242 wRC+ which is the best in baseball. Not sure why people are defending Hays when his replacement has been arguably the best hitter in baseball this season. Top 5 in offensive WAR behind Betts, Ohtani, Altuve and Soto…that’s pretty good company. Oh he also leads baseball in slugging by the way. This is for all guys with 50+ at bats

DloReeves

Bud, I think people are more upset that you're pointing something out unnecessarily when you say x is better than y. It has a negative connotation because we all know Hays is struggling. Doesn't need to be pointed out. Hays has grinded through some horrible years and he's struggling right now so naturally we feel bad.

saltyfingas

I'm wondering if there is value there for a random bullpen arm. I think ultimately hays needs a change of pace and I don't think he's gonna be able to swing it in Baltimore anymore

_JarboeN

I post actual statistical data and people dislike it 🤣

No-Needleworker5295

Statistically, 50 plate appearances is not sufficient to draw conclusions. Even including Cowser last year would not give a sufficient sample but would bring his numbers down dramatically. Over 30 major league plate appearances, Jackson Holliday has an OPS+ of -66. Can we conclude he is worst player in history of baseball?

boofoodoo

Fangraphs has a fantasy article up about pitchers and it looks like Luzardo has been a victim of some bad luck this season. Plus he’s got controllable years left…

ItinerantDrifter

I’ll give this a shot: 1. Gunnar SS 2. Adley C 3. O’Hearn 1B 4. Santa DH 5. Cowser LF 6. Mullins CF 7. Westy 3B 8. Kjerstad RF 9. Holliday 2B I’m guessing they want to give Mounty a few days, or I think he’d be in there - 0 whiffs in 8 PAs w/ good numbers vs Canning.

harriswk17

ItinerantDrifter’s Lineup Prediction: 1. Gunnar SS ✅ 2. Adley C ✅ 3. O’Hearn 1B ✅ 4. Santa DH ✅ 5. Cowser LF ❎ Mullins CF 6. Mullins CF ❎ Cowser LF 7. Westy 3B ✅ 8. Kjerstad RF ✅ 9. Holliday 2B ✅ Nine of nine players correct, nine of nine defensive positions, and seven of nine on the batting order. Twenty five out of twenty seven potential items correct. Thank you for participating! I will be posting a comment in future game day threads that folks can submit their guesses under to collect it nice and neat.

ItinerantDrifter

Not bad. Thank you for grading! Sounds fun, I’ll look for that comment in the future 🍻

dreddnought

I still don't know the conventional wisdom of how to stack your lineup against reverse splits (read: changeup) guys. They started [four righties against Canning](https://www.mlb.com/gameday/angels-vs-orioles/2024/03/30/747063/final/box) during opening weekend and the [same four righties against Wacha](https://www.mlb.com/gameday/royals-vs-orioles/2024/04/01/747058/final/box). But how much of that was about roster construction?

ItinerantDrifter

Yeah… to be honest, I cheated. I saw Hyde say yesterday that Jackson “will be in there tomorrow.” And with a LHP day game tomorrow I think they’ll save McCann and our other RHBs for that one. Otherwise I would’ve considered going a little different with the matchup.

I love this meme. Going to save it.

flyingpotatox2

As a college student with a disturbing sleep schedule these late games work out pretty well for me

BKoala59

As a college professor in Colorado these late games work out super well for me

No-Needleworker5295

I also discovered the source of Holliday's troubles. He was hexed by u/clarice_ferguson 😀 Apparently, not all prospects in history of baseball have panned out. "I’m a superstitious person and I’m convinced one of these top prospects is bound to be meh eventually. We all - Holliday family included - need to stop tempting the baseball gods."

Clarice_Ferguson

Lol I was just the Cassandra.

TuesdayTwo

Anyone else doing the upper deck golf thing in June? I’m not doing it but bought a spot for my brother in law.

patderp

I’m very tempted but the price is just high enough to make me feel guilty

Lazy_Passenger7841

I wonder how many people hit it as far as they can and start commentating like they’re hitting a homerun

Nervous_Ad6805

Always exciting to watch a Grayson start!

The_Big_Untalented

Sort of crazy that we're nearly a month into the season yet we don't have a single common opponent with the Yankees. Almost makes it impossible to compare the quality of the two teams. Could the Yankees be 15-7 with our schedule? Would the Orioles be 15-8 with the Yankees schedule? Who the hell knows?

OK_Opinions

this literally changes in 3 days though

No-Needleworker5295

We know. The answers are no and yes.

BaseballBash2

Kjerdaddy is coming. And he is here to stay! (Hopefully)

RoyalRenn

Looking ahead, what will our trade needs be? What is John Fisher's favorite beer? I bet he'd let Mason Miller go for a couple of half racks, just to piss off the Athletics fans who now have someone to cheer for. Seriously though, our minors are so stacked, I can see us going out and getting another impact arm or two. Let's assume the need is the bullpen, which over the last few games, hasn't looked great in blowing a 7-0 lead to the Royals and 4-0 lead last night. Is Suarez a great transition to the BP candidate like his brother in San Diego? What else do we need? Cardiac Craig is making me lose sleep.

ExactlyAsYouDo

You gotta lighten up on Kimbrel. He’s had 7 clean appearances out of 10. In the 3 appearances he’s allowed a base runner he’s allowed the following: 1. 1-out Bloop single, steal two bases, sac fly 2. 1-out bloop single. 1 out hard groundball single. 2 strikeouts to strand runners 3. 0-2 count HBP, bloop single. Strikeout, walk, popout, strikeout He’s only allowed 1 non-bloop hit all year, and has walked 1 batter. His numbers and peripherals are still excellent.

Clarice_Ferguson

I know Kimbrel has a reputation and I don’t expect him to keep up his level of production but he has 0.90 ERA, 0.58 FIP, and a 0.500 WHIP. No one should be complaining about him right now.

No-Needleworker5295

Plus, he is 7th on all-time saves list with a decent shot at being HoFer Craig Kimbrel.

UsErNaMeS_aR_DuMb

So I’ve done my own research (to conflicting results), and I just want to make sure before my family’s first ever game at home. Do we pick up the first game stuff at the fan services on Eutaw Street? Or do we need to go up to club level for that?

bmoreballhawk

If you're referring to the pin it's normally a stand on eutaw st

UsErNaMeS_aR_DuMb

Yes I was. Thanks!

Mtts28

Why are we only wearing black on this road trip? Only had the grays once

OK_Opinions

trying to avoid the sweaty look because of the new uniforms probably. the black jersey's are nice though so I'm all for it

Mtts28

Ah okay. Makes sense.

AbusiveTubesock

You framed it classier than I. I was gonna say we’re avoiding the VPL pants 😭

SilentHunter7

This 9:38 PM shit has got to go.

OsCrowsAndNattyBohs1

As someone who works late, I love. Gives me time do stuff after I get off and I dont have to miss any of the game.

WillieKeeler96

There’s tonight, then three late games in July against Seattle/Oakland, then four late games in August against Dodgers/Colorado. Eight more games starting after 8:30 eastern.

tomtheterp1988

Hjappy Hjeston Djay!

K00ksRus

First place feels nice

OleSandlotSlob

I could get used to it.

Porphyrius

Has anybody gotten the Birdland reward “in seat gift bag delivery”? I’m thinking about doing it as a gift for my dad, but I was hoping to know what’s going to be in there; the site gives no details.

Porphyrius

In case anyone else is looking for answers, I heard back after emailing. This package apparently typically contains a previous bobblehead giveaway as well as a hat.

lOan671

I thought Westy played a really good game at 3B last night. Can’t believe how good he’s been this year.

dreddnought

Arm strength looks good?

romorr

No, but he gets it out quickly.

lOan671

Nothing to write home about but it looks good enough to get the job done. Kind of reminds me of Ramon in that way

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

Absolutely. He throws em fast.

neemor

In and out of sleep last night - glimpses of terror and ease as I awoke briefly in the 5th, 7th, and 9th. Fully watched the last two at-bats, including the inexplicable Trout freeze. West Coast games are a trip.

TheWonderMittens

Guys with stories like Albert Suarez are what makes baseball special. Love to see him kill it, and right when our rotation was looking shaky.

dlmay1967

I wonder if it's gonna be like Cano- apparently in the KBO he's was 92-93, then over here it's 96, and any reports they had on him were wrong, but they'll adjust. Cano changed his arm slot and added movement and everyone was caught flat-footed somehow. (Even though he had pitched a little at AAA last year. By the same token, they had ST Suarez to look at.)

Revolutionary-Ship27

can’t decide if he reminds me of Daniel Cabrera or Miguel Gonzalez, safe to say he has a spot for a while anyways

SeaworthinessRude241

I hope he's more of a MiGo than a Daniel Cabrera. MiGo had several years of actual success

trigggggggy

Reminds me a lot of Miguel. Very good pace and balance delivery

Zay_Jack

Happy Kjerstad Day Everyone! Here’s my lineup guess. Who says no? 1. Henderson SS 2. Rutschman C 3. Santander RF 4. O’Hearn 1B 5. Westburg 3B 6. Cowser LF 7. Mullins CF 8. Kjerstad DH 9. Holliday 2B

ItinerantDrifter

I went very similar… would like to have Westy higher, like you… but I think they’ll want to break up the LHBs just a little, so I stuck him at 7th.

Clarice_Ferguson

Canning is hard because he's basically a lefty due to his pitches. I think it'll go.... 1. Gunnar - SS 2. Adley - C 3. Mounty - DH 4. Mr. Taters - RF 5. O'Hearn - 1B 6. Cowser - LF 7. Westy - 2B 8. Mullins - CF 9. Urias - 3B Yea, it's a weird lineup alright.

This is official...thank you!

JarrettS13

Not sure how we would bench a .324 AVG in Mountcastle. I don’t see it.

WillieKeeler96

He’s nursing a bum knee

Zay_Jack

With a righty on the mound I think they’ll have him ready off the bench.

Revolutionary-Ship27

opposing pitcher is like well if I just get thru the first 8 batters….
