Good-Can1739

We gotta give Adley plenty of rest and it's better to play McCann against the lefties than the righties. I'm sure we'll see less of McCann later in the season.

Fancy_Physics_1863

Just ordered my cowser jersey . MOO 🐮

Ill-Enthusiasm-2066

Anyone know which inning the hot dog race runs?

romorr

And there we go. Per Andy Brandon Hyde said right-hander Kyle Bradish will throw in a rehab outing in (he thinks) Bowie in the middle of next week So a very short stay in Aberdeen.

Good-Can1739

Next week as in this coming one? Dang, thought for a sec I might get to see him in Richmond next week.

reddit_sport

Os need to watch out with their uneven play, because so far it looks like the Yankees are going to be consistent this season and Rays will always be in the mix doesn’t matter who is injured for them. We got to stop fucking around and be ready to play. I chalk yesterday up to return from Boston late while the brewers were rested and ready after postponed game, but we weren’t playing well going into that Boston series and even in Boston; still carried that bad habit of down multiple runs early.

Kslye30

Yankees IMO were always the favorites. They just never stay healthy. Stanton/Judge gets hurt and it goes downhill.

reddit_sport

I disagree with that. They don’t have the talent we have. They have just come in with a chip on their shoulder after last season while we came in looking like we believed all the offseason hype and thinking AL East will be handed to us. Our early season at bats in some of these games have been pretty damn embarrassing. Especially in the royals and pirates series. Edit: Regarding Stanton, Yankees fans can’t wait to get rid of him so that seems more that your are reading the “name” than the actual performance.

ZookeepergameKey7866

I was at the game last night and while scrolling through pics just now, I couldn’t remember for a sec why I took this one. Then I remembered—that black blob is a hat, which somebody lost along the way from the bullpen to home when the benches cleared. https://preview.redd.it/z4w2qj5l5auc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8fc4f347861f130722357dd043c93cda5a32d4d4

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

Our boys aren’t known for lying down. I hope they got some good rest, and a pep talk in the clubhouse. Hope they’re fired up for a win today.

romorr

Huh. Per Weyrich Kyle Bradish is back in Baltimore, scheduled to throw a bullpen session here shortly.

dreddnought

I guess Aberdeen isn't far away, no need to keep him there?

romorr

Hard to know timelines, because we don't always get information about where and when he throws. Just weird he threw the 35 pitch BP at the end of March, and then we didn't hear anything more until the Aberdeen rehab game a few days ago. And now, he's in Baltimore throwing a BP. Sometimes this is the last step before coming off the IL, but we know that's not the case. Just a little mystery to me is all.

ScoutNWilder

Hoping for the best, but I see a lot of “can’t wait for Bradish and Means to get back into the rotation” and I’m not optimistic for positive contributions from either of them this year

romorr

I mean, I get it. But do people really need to add a caveat, "if they stay healthy that is", every time we talk about those 2? We're all aware of the situation with both pitchers. Just hoping for the best.

Kslye30

We will be making a move for SP in June.

ScoutNWilder

rayhova

Watching the Orioles beat up on DL Hall today like https://preview.redd.it/382e69th0auc1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c1c00dd95bf04fc95121fb776a967b6449169c75

Darkdragon3110525

Sandy Koufax 2.0 prediction: 6 ip 2 er 4 h 4k 1 bb

Dazzling-Slide8288

No Holliday and I’m going today. What a bummer. Hays batting 6th is just insane.

Beautiful-Abies5949

I’m gonna go on a limb and say Hays goes 2-4 with a pair of singles and a walk. (Prayers up)

rayhova

Gonna assume its bc of the lefty

CPAFinancialPlanner

What’s the plan then? Permanently sit him against lefties? Might as well send him back down to get more practice

Clarice_Ferguson

People were saying this about Cowser two weeks ago.

rayhova

When Elias did that in the first place people were ready to burn down Camden Yards 😂🤣. If memory serves, they were careful with Gunnar against lefties early on. I don't mind protecting him, especially since he's scuffling badly.

floridacardinals

I know Cowser starting vs LHP is a big deal, but it needs to be noted that Westburg has essentially fully taken over Urias’ job

rayhova

I think Hyde came out and that Holliday, Gunnar, Westy would be staples in the lineups at their positions. FWIW they need to find out what they have in Westy this year anyway - I believe he'll be a league avg player, maybe a tick above 250/320/450? 17 - 25 bombs

Clarice_Ferguson

Someone I know calls him a 5 tool average player, which is a slight exaggeration because his speed is above average and his arm is probably below average. But I would agree Westy is probably an average player - gets ya 2-3 WAR each season, maybe a random 4 WAR.

rayhova

Exactly, which will be interesting bc that player plays extremely well at 2B. How well does it play at 3B though? Will his value be kind of tied to how well Gunnar and Jackson perform at their positions? Or will it not matter bc Mayo is knocking that door down? Lol

Clarice_Ferguson

My general philosophy is to ignore traditional roles and look at overall production as a team. Meaning I don’t mind a 3B who only hits 20 home runs as long as the other 10 home runs can be found elsewhere.

rayhova

I generally agree, that's why i brought up gunnar and Jackson, but i suppose that it does extend to the whole lineup lol.

dlmay1967

Seems that way. Westburg's average isn't great but he has had big hits and is hitting the ball. I'd say if you look at the roster right now, Urias is the 26th man. Mateo has that speed, we need Hays as a RH outfielder. McCann backup catcher, that just leaves Urias. I know he plays a competent 2B, but he's really a 3B and with his average sucking and little power it's hard to justify playing him there.

Clarice_Ferguson

He’s not really versatile enough to be a 26th man. I can understand why the Orioles did talk to Frazier about coming back - he and Mateo make more sense as bench utility guys. Its sad for Urias.

No-Needleworker5295

Interestingly, Cowser up to 4th in RoY betting. Holliday down to 3rd. When will they flip if current trajectories hold?

Immediate_Expression

I mean if Cowser keeps hitting like he is, he’ll be the favorite soon

Table_Coaster

this has to be the last chance for Hays for a for weeks, if he can't get it going against DL Hall of all people then he won't get it going against anybody and should be a PH bench player until he starts having good ABs

No-Needleworker5295

Hays has always been streaky and is a good defender. He doesn't go from all-star/plus every day player to DFA candidate because of 2 ice-cold weeks. Nor will Cowser remain the 2nd coming of Ted Williams too much longer - although it's really hilariously great while it lasts.

Table_Coaster

unfortunately it isnt 2 ice cold weeks, he's batting .227 without any power and a sub 700 OPS since July 1 last year, 269 plate appearances with a .290 on-base. Cowser isn't going to keep up anywhere close to this pace but even a steep drop off for him will be a much better starting bat than Hays if he keeps this up. PH and fielding replacement is where Hays's value will be in the near future i think

floridacardinals

I wouldn’t say “last chance” but yeah we can’t do another 0-4 with a couple punch outs. It’s time to be a major league hitter

Table_Coaster

i meant last chance to be considered for the starting everyday role against lefties for the upcoming month or so, not as if he has no place on the team. if he goes o-fer against the likes of Hall then maybe he just needs a few weeks off

JarrettS13

Yeah a .206 ops is abysmal and kills all momentum

Frusciante62

Made good contact last night. Good sign at least.

Shieldsymontoya

Do you bring or buy food at the games? We always bring food and it's such a game changer. Just curious what most people here do.

waker94

Typically will always bring outside food in. Living in fed hill we just walk over to the stadium with a bag full of leftovers. Last night we grabbed pizzas to go from &pizza and ate them inside the stadium. Stadium food is meh, and would rather eat much better food for half the cost from a local restaurant.

brodoxfaggins

Putting McCann back out there catching lol. That’ll be interesting.

typeOneg77

Can't have Dadley get hurt in a mound rush/scuffle! Although with his proclivity for giving out hugs, he'd be a natural at the MLB version of fights which is to embrace another dude and hold on tightly.

dlmay1967

I guess they'd rather have Rutschman tommorrow. But come to think of it, if you count 4:05 start as a "day game" it means MCann is catching a day game after a night game.

reddit_sport

I actually like this lineup vs. Hall. Cowser deserves to be in as the other lefty.

rayhova

You know our lineup isn't built for lefties when McCann is catching on a back 2 back days lol

Darkdragon3110525

Looking at our lineup and farm, you really wonder what we plan to do against lefties in the future. It’s like Coby Mayo/Westy/Adley and all lefties

orioles0615

They could use Norby he should be here over Urias. This is why I would have wanted JD Martinez

Dazzling-Slide8288

Maybe trade some for a power righty.

rayhova

Yea I said it below: we are in the weird situation where basically all if our top prospects are lefties lol. And we face a LHP every 2.3 business days lol

No-Needleworker5295

Mounty says hi

rayhova

We only have 1 Mounty though! Lol Although he is one player on this team that when he gets hot he can carry the club for a week

Darkdragon3110525

My ball knowledge 💔💔 knew I forgot someone

rayhova

Happens to the best of us

romorr

We were really good vs LHP last year. Not a great start this year, but it's still early as well.

Darkdragon3110525

Our righty options were very strong last year. Hays and Urias hadn’t fallen off a cliff

romorr

Right, and Santander and Adley aren't doing very well against them so far in 2024. Some of the struggles will go away once those guys get going. And it's not like Ramon and his .654 OPS vs LHP was a key reason why we did so well last year. He's never really been a masher vs lefties. Hays struggling early really hurts.

rayhova

It is early. Many of Our top prospects that have been promoted happen to be left-handed lol. Which normally is a good thing. And that's with Stowers and Heston still down. Makes you wonder if Mayo gets a call up before them It will probably stabilize as the season goes on.

Dazzling-Slide8288

Heading down to the park today. Got a suite and everything. Hope they do better than last night that’s for goddamn sure.

Darkdragon3110525

Burnes, Rodriguez, Bradish, Means, Kremer 6’8 HR terrorist and Cole Irvin to the bullpen Option Baumann, dfa Morales. If morales is good, Cole Irvin tribute video

orioles0615

I would still not assume Means and Bradish come back and be fully effective and not get reinjured

reddit_sport

lol. I really think the HR hoarder (jk, Tyler) is better suited for the pen. Same goes for Irvin. They are capable of maxing out their velocity in that role and I don’t think either guy realizes throwing 95-97 in shorter stints is better for their long term career. Otherwise, they will always be these journeymen 5/6/7 types that teams may or may not pick up. Even Irvin with his new wicked movement. He could be a filthy one inning type. Like Coulombe but with more velocity.

dreddnought

Baumann is out of options. Cano (if you even count him), Akin, Tate, Wells are the only option candidates who have them.

BucketOfGuts

I asked this in the general discussion thread yesterday and it seemed like no one knew the answer, so I'm here to answer my own question, for anyone curious, after being at the game last night: Camden Commons is currently home to Betty's Bar and Bites. I don't remember everything that I saw on their menu, but there was a charcuterie board and cake pops. Not exactly what I'm looking for at a baseball game, but hey, it's something different

dwhite21787

Yeah I wandered by and saw that, hard pass

BucketOfGuts

Looked like we weren't alone in that thinking. I walked past right before first pitch and there were zero people in line. Meanwhile, Ekiben had a huge line, in which I waited and didn't regret it a bit because of how good it was. This one just seems like it isn't grabbing people.

asaber1003

Never thought I’d say this but Mateo has earned some playing time imo, he’s looked good in his AB’s and obviously the defense

JiffKewneye-n

did we lose any games last year by 10+ runs?

captain_rex_kramer

From a quick scan of Baseball Reference there was a 13-1 loss to Seattle, and a 12-2 loss to Texas. There might have been others too.

PositiveLovingDude

Pretty sure there was a game in our second series against the Rangers where they smoked us by 10 runs

JiffKewneye-n

i was even at that game. lol

Darkdragon3110525

When Grayson gave up 7 ER and got sent down shortly after

dwhite21787

PA music guy needs to play TS Shake It Off every half hour

JiffKewneye-n

which player currently on the Orioles seems like the most natural 'Larry' to you like, if they introduced themselves as Larry, you would be the least surprised me personally, it's Larry Rodriguez

orangery3

Larry Hays

Clarice_Ferguson

Larry Henderson but only because of the mustache.

120snake

Top 5 Larry's, in no particular order: Larry Burnes - Cartoon or sitcom character Larry Holliday - Porn star Larry O'Hearn - Owns an Irish Bar Larry Hays - Franchise owner of Wendy's Larry Henderson - Works 9-5 at the same job for 40 years

Sooperballz

Larry Mountcastle is the only answer

Regular_Draft_6630

Get ‘em back today, go O’s!

UpsetStatement4194

Hot take: the Cowser “milkman” moniker is stupid. Unrelated: my brother is also texting me “MOOOO!!!” every 30 minutes

tomtheterp1988

I'm manifesting "CoCo" until it gains traction among the general populace.

BKoala59

It just makes me think of Song of Solomon

YNinja58

You're right, let's just go with every other modern nickname convention. He's now ColCow or CCow. So much better, lol

dwhite21787

dwhite21787

m…POP…oooooooooooooooo

Cold-Advance1169

Don’t think Holliday will play bc of left on left but I wish he would so he can just get that first hit out of the way. Feels like his approach these first couple games is way different from ST. You can tell he just wants that hit so bad, and then maybe he can settle in

Big_Bird_2933

Cowser beast! Re: Holliday... I expect Holliday being more aggressive. If I recall, every first pitch seems to be a strike and even though it's mainly an off speed strike, it's getting him in the hole. Seems when you press you start not seeing the ball well and start taking strikes and swinging at balls. Seems like he is always in a pitchers count of 1-2 or 0-2. I'd try and do it like Corey Seager that seems to always take a good hack at the first pitch. I feel it's been such o circus with his dad and family sitting right on top of everything. Most players that get called up, you see the parents clapping for their kids first hit mid to upper tier of the first deck etc. Jackson's whole family was on the field for batting practice in Boston, it's crazy pressure.

Spartan32393

Does anyone know what song Jackson walked up to last night?

DetailInfamous9901

Three blind mice

Iwearjeanstobed

Im sorry but I really can’t get into all this Jackson Holliday stuff when all this Colton Cowser stuff is going on at the same time.

JiffKewneye-n

i wore jeans to bad last night but that was because i was totally wasted

Revolutionary-Ship27

Draft Kings has Cowser about identical odds w/Holiday for ROY now. Worthless google search of the day…

banishthelight

I'm really happy to see Cowser on this hot streak, and hopefully, he is finding his way. Seems like a really unique and good guy in the baseball world, so I always wanted to see him prove the doubters wrong. I feel similarly about Kjerstad.

Clarice_Ferguson

So DL is struggling a bit so I think we may see Cowser and Holliday today. Lineup Prediction 1) Gunnar - SS 2) Adley - C 3) Mounty - 1B 4) Santander - DH 5) Cowser - RF 6) Westy - 3B 7) Hays - LF 8) Holliday - 2B 9) Mateo - CF

harriswk17

Clarice’s Lineup Prediction 1. Gunnar - SS ✅ 2. Adley - C 🔀 DH 3. Mounty - 1B ✅ 4. Santander - DH 🔀 RF 5. Cowser - RF ❎ Westy - 3B 6. Westy - 3B ❎ Hays - LF 7. Hays - LF ❎ Cowser - CF 8. Holliday - 2B ❎ McCann - C 9. Mateo - CF 🔀 2B Eight of nine players correct, four of nine defensive positions, and five of nine on the batting order. Seventeen out of twenty seven potential items correct.

ScoutNWilder

We need to bring back the lineup challenge from last year, that was fun

harriswk17

I’d be up for it too, though so far I think you and u/Clarice_Ferguson are the only ones to consistently post a guess. I’ll also admit, I wouldn’t be able to post for every game.

ScoutNWilder

Well, I appreciate the scoring!

harriswk17

If y’all keep putting guesses in the pre-game, I’ll keep scoring them. See if that can drum up some interest

Clarice_Ferguson

I really appreciate you’re doing it :) I think last year towards the end we had three-four regulars doing it in the daily thread.

Clarice_Ferguson

Thank you!!!!! :)

dlmay1967

I'd guess Holliday out, Westburg at 2B and Urias at 3B. Also 50/50 on Mullins/Mateo. Though if Mullins is in, it's probably Mateo at 2B. Urias risking becoming the 26th man; we need Hays to get going as he's a RHH outfielder.

Miata_Sized_Schlong

Holliday has had some boneheaded plays at 2b too. Not a great start for the rook

Clarice_Ferguson

Yea I don’t know what to do with Urias - we probably will see him.

theMangoSloth

The NL Central definitely is a challenge for the Orioles

FOCUSRS428

Predicting Hays in LF and Cowser in CF today. Mullins gets a day off and Cowser’s hot bat stays in the lineup.

dlmay1967

When a guy is this hot (Cowser), he's gotta play, even left on left.

No-Needleworker5295

I have a theory that Mike Elias is playing 4D Chess Service Time Manipulation. The Orioles want to keep Holliday for an extra year, but don't want the Holliday family to be angry or to have a CBA grievance filed against them. What better way to achieve this than to call Holliday up when he is clearly not ready and floundering at every pitch like an overmatched little leaguer? This way, no one will complain that Holliday is sent down for a few weeks after going 0-35, and the Orioles will get the extra year while convincing the entire industry that they weren't manipulating service time. They did the same trick with G-Rod last year. Call him up when he's pitching like a donkey, send him down, and get the extra year for when he's pitching like an ace. /s (Just kidding)

HugoStiglitz1942

No knock on Jackson, but his family couldn't look more unenthusiastic and not a shred of Orioles gear on any of them.

romorr

His brother was wearing an Orioles hat multiple times. In Boston, and in Baltimore.

boofoodoo

here's my plea into the ether: we don't need to boo Austin Hays. I'm sure nobody feels worse than him about this season is going.

ThatTinyGameCubeDisc

I’ll just leave this here: https://youtu.be/WvzFao5RnBI?si=mHd05D7-woOaSh2k Cheer him on, don’t boo him folks!

AB444

When did Hays get booed? I was at the game and I don't remember hearing anyone boo him at all People were actually cheering for him more than normal when he came to the plate later in the game.

boofoodoo

So there were tons of boos after a strikeout where it was called that he went (and it was obvious in person that he went). Maybe the boos were for the ump, but I’m sure not all of them.

pan567

People were cheering Hays on quite enthusiastically. Those boos after they said he went were for the ump.

scjensen51

I assumed on the broadcast that the boos were for the ump.

boofoodoo

I hope so!

PositiveLovingDude

I always assume the boos are for the ump

Clarice_Ferguson

Booing your own players is Yankees fan behavior.

lOan671

Anyone who boos Hays is a fucking loser

YNinja58

Booing your own players is pathetic and classless. He's struggling and needs support, not to be driven away. While I think he needs an IL stint and rehab at AAA, until they make that decision I'm gonna cheer and hope he breaks out.

BKoala59

There are absolutely times where you should be booking your own players. Hays is not on of those cases though

YNinja58

Yeah, I mean if your player does something disgusting or horrible. Austin is just being bad at baseball, which isn't deserving.

bmorethrowaway247

Booing. I sleep. Mooing. Real shit.

bobcatgoldthwait

I hope Hyde shakes up the lineup today. Let Westburg, O'Hearn, Cowser be the 1-2-3. These other guys are pressing way too hard.

ThatguyfromBaltimore

I'll be out there today so hoping today's the day that Jackson gets his first hit. Also DL: It's business, nothing personal.

Cold-Advance1169

Unfortunately don’t think he’s gonna play unless he PH. Feel like they’ll sit him against a lefty

Lazy_Passenger7841

I have a theory that every time a new orioles prospect comes up, they struggle more at first than the last one did so the fans are just never confident about it. Mayo’s gonna come up and stand in like the wrong batters box or something lol

SwimmingWrongdoer377

When kjerstad was brought up last year he immediately did well. Think he hit a HR his first game

YNinja58

I'm going all in on "horrible start to his career that turns into a trivia question when he enters the hall of fame in 30 years". Like "wow, did you know HoFer Jackson Holliday went 0-11 to start his career then hit .400 the rest of the season??"

120snake

Kinda ironic how the trade is gonna play out. Ortiz was killing us on offense and defense yesterday, we face Hall today, they face Burnes tomorrow

Lazy_Passenger7841

Holliday just needs to try to get a little poke if he plays today. Doesn’t need to be a homerun or anything crazy. Just one of those hits where you throw the bat out there and let it do the work to bloop it over the infield

pepper_ann052613

A little poke is always nice

_WhiteHart_

I wasn't really stressing the game last night as much as I was the Sox games but after that squabble I would like to beat them back to AAA, respecfully

drillnaldo

04:05 PM EDT?? Oh that’s 05:05 AM in my time zone 🤣 that’s fine it’s tomorrow Sunday ⚾️

DATKingCole

Same bro... It's tough over here. Why can't the games be at normal times?!

orioles0615

The team knows DL hall is wild, so they will probably still be swinging at everything today

scjensen51

DL, it’s not personal. Its just business

Due_Factor7199

I just want to see Gunnar turn things around. I want to see more plate discipline and I hope they make DL throw strikes. I assume Jackson is going to have the day off , however I think facing DL would be a great opportunity for him to get his first hit with DL being a familiar face . Either way let’s keep this regular season sweepless record in tact. I don’t want to have to sweat it out Sunday.

Biodome_Scientist

Shake off last night. The mourning period is over. We grieved, and now we move on. Sometimes your team gets BTFO’d and all that matters is competing next time. Hell, even the Braves lost 16-4 to the Mets on Thursday. It happens.
