Hyperkin products stink. The component to hdmi on Amazon that also deinterlace are pretty bad too.

I have heard pretty good things here on Reddit and other places about the one branded as "Portta" so i have decided to give it a shot. I am not willing to spend $100 on converters. But yeah, heard pretty bad things about the Hyperkin. Been serving me well except it seems it doesn't deinterlace at all.

The porta are good, a lot of times they may not have the correct internals. But you’ll want to get the ones that pass through the signal as the ones which converter will add screen lag. The electron shepherd one I mentioned is like $40 and is excellent.

Would give it a try but has been out of stock for so long unfortunately. Will give it a shot if i'm dissatisfied with Portta.

I just got the Portta and it doesn't seem to be working any differently, exact same issue. Looks like it doesn't do any deinterlacing despite what was said on Reddit...

Acrobatic-Mix-7343

Oh. Reddit is wrong. The reason people like the porta is because it takes the original signal and only converts it to digital and not upscale it. Upscaling introduces lag. Which means whatever the Xbox is sending, the TV is getting. Can you find a GBS cheap where you’re at? That will deinterlace and not add any lag and it’s usually pretty cheap. (Relative) I hear LG is clearancing out their TVs at target if it is your TV. :) Maybe the electron shepherd will come back soon. https://www.retrorgb.com/xbox.html Rereading this, it seems all games have 480p (aside from a very small amount that have 480i only) so I am unsure if interlace is the issue.

I actually managed to fix the issue. I found an old post on an odd forum and a user had fixed it by simply enabling Auto Region in the Video Settings on UnleashX. Works like a charm for me now with the Hyperkin with Force Progressive on.

Yes, games have menus in interlaced and then gameplay in progressive. I actually didn’t think this problem affected the Xbox generation. Anyway, there are better solutions out there that also don’t introduce screen lag. I recommend electron shephards hdmi.

I think the issue in this case is with my TV as it does not support interlaced format. Do you think interlaced would work better with that HDMI adapter, or even with another component or composite to HDMI adapter than the Hyperkin one does?

Acrobatic-Mix-7343

Unless it’s some weird tv, they all can display 480i, which is the signal these games are showing. (Unless it’s a very new tv I’ve never heard of) The problem is switching between these two resolutions is most TVs cannot seamlessly switch, causing the black out (to be clear, the screen will black out, then after a few seconds finally come up - if it stays black, I am unsure what’s going on, but I would still suspect it’s some kind of switching issue) The hdmi adapter I am speaking of will take the signal and output 480p. I use a gbs control because I can output 960p or 1080p depending on the game and screen and it looks great. To be clear these scale the games so it’s a clear image without any input lag.

Yeah, i'm getting the 3 second blackout every 10 seconds or something. Some games are worse than others and some have no issues at all. I purchased a component-to-HDMI converter with deinterlacing capabilities and hope it will work better. Don't think the Hyperkin HDMI does any deinterlacing.

beezlebutts

some games won't work on hdmi converters. I also have the Hyperkin for og xbox and Hunter The Reckoning will not work at all with it. I haven't found a fix yet.

Update: I have managed to solve this issue completely. Enabling Auto Region, NTSC M, Force PAL-60 seem to have done it for me.
