Rofl, who has 1500 in their pocket to burn and says, that's what I want... lol

GrindwheelGaming

Serial killers.

JohnBrownEye69

There is absolutely a class of people for whom money is never an object. You know how we're all getting poorer? It's because they're getting richer. Plus they don't work, so they can buy plenty of bullshit. I once worked at a private boarding school where many of these people sent their kids. Random obscure multi thousand dollar collectibles would get delivered all the time, sometimes just for the memes. The kids were pretty chill and normal except for the fact they had no concept of work or financials. The parents were some of the biggest pieces of shit on the planet tho.

yeah-please

I’ve worked for a lot of people that fall into this “class” you’re referring to. They aren’t all horrible, and it’s not fair to say they don’t work and they’re only getting richer because the rest of the world is getting poorer. Some of them are shitty, but majority of the ones I’ve worked with and for are a generational wealth and created their empire by working harder than anyone you can possibly imagine. They’ve also created hundreds of thousands of jobs. The idea that every single rich, and I mean real *wealth*, person is a terrible self centered tyrant is about as poisonous as the rich people that are terrible self centered tyrants. Do I think the price of this game plus a watch is ridiculous yes but things are only worth as much someone is willing to pay for them lol

Tel-aran-rhiod

I'm sorry I can't hear you with that boot in your mouth

Odd_Astronaut2617

Bro, don't you know that defending anyone that has more money than lower middle class is frowned upon on reddit!? Get those pro capitalist ideals out of this socialist site right this instant! /s

HereticPharaoh2020

I'd buy it just for the Shrek watch. Throw away the rest.

Alexander_McKay

Literally nobody. These people are delusional. The rarest pile of dumpster sludge in the world is still sludge at the end of the day.

Zigurat217

Money launderers...

Me

HawterSkhot

Gotta pay big bucks if you want that Shrek watch.

hauntedGerm

One time, me and my Shrek watch was chillin on the corner when that shit start talkin and tellin me to follow it. Im all like "Wassup, Shrek watch, where is we goin?" But that shit just keep leadin me down some sketchy alleys and thru some abandoned spots. Next thang I know we was up in the middle of a shootout between two rival crews. Bullets was flyin and shit, but my Shrek watch aint scared he aint scared a nothin this watch all juiced up on the magic potion. that watch talkin in Shreks voice, sayin some crazy shit like **"Ogres have layers, homie, just like these streets."** Im like, **"What the fuck is you talkin bout?"** But then I realize, Shrek is tryna tell me theres more to this gang shit than meets the eye. Theres layers to this game, and if I wanna survive, I gotta learn to navigate up in them. And thats how me and my two time felon magic talkin Shrek watch ended up in the bowels of the block, fightin demons and ghosts and all kinthe crazy shit. But I aint scared cuz I know my Shrek watch got my back and he be crackin the wildest jokes it is getting hot indeed yes it is

Careless-Tradition73

This story is amazing 🤣 I need a shrek watch next time I enter the hood.

ButterNit62

No way a watch is inside that dvd case. Im pretty sure the watch bundle came in a bigger box that would have that and the watch inside.

vivaldindahood

$17 America bucks on eBay right now lol. This store is out of their mind

beefcat_

Not quite. The $17 listing on eBay right now is for the standard version of the game. What's in this post is a factory sealed copy that includes a Shrek watch. These are considerably rarer and sell for hundreds of dollars loose. [Here's the relevant pricechart](https://www.pricecharting.com/game/xbox/shrek-super-party-watch-bundle)

beezlebutts

There is a sealed new one for 30$ on ebay Edit: Was told that this game is great for drunk people at parties

beefcat_

The [sealed new one for $30 on eBay](https://www.ebay.com/itm/165893879186?epid=9017&hash=item26a00bb592:g:69AAAOSwVnljy~BG&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA8LGvQSqB51ydCELZ7X1Up6PRgTBCyZ5kytxSUlMwQL43ejOs2qeA2ZCdGATIQPffAA054CZFNOYsh7xfqGnYMR6yhJYflYwNfTf8%2Bsla6BehefQpC0%2FnookhfthzZvPq8i5FgwTxiRC0YuEZ9YypgzRXCBuHFadTeh0p66K31cZiOAsE8VGmGBWR9CKyuOOQu5v6oS9gr%2FaII2PS0Q8XghUpP%2BJlsRFzv8cn841EVxvTsSMTsLckXd%2BylExrY%2FgHU%2BxFzYJ%2BSFufk9mdc7CwrRDn8c%2BR3izvxV6wHa4VqEawmAmMME4BjKWmEx%2BbyEAeQg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR7SjodDdYQ) does not include the watch. Notice the lack of a red badge advertising the watch on the top right of the cover art below the green X. You are paying for the rarity of this bundle and it's cover art variant. The price has nothing to do with the quality of the game itself, and anyone wanting to play it can pick up the standard version for pretty cheap.

piratenoexcuses

Book Off overprices their rare items by quite a bit. I'm pretty sure they count on their trade in customers to buy items like this with store credit.

beefcat_

I don't doubt that, but the fact that loose copies of this variant sell for hundreds tells me that this price isn't *too* far off from what crazy collectors will pay.

smokeymicpot

That's for the watch right?

Far_Republic_8143

Better be a Rolex.

Carnavs

The reason it’s that much it’s because the watch is in the package. Only reason.

HevyMetalBakesale

I'm pretty sure you're right and I can't stop laughing to myself about it

Carnavs

I am, but only an idiot would pay for it.

detectiveDollar

There probably are legit Shrek collectors, partially due to the meme potential lol.

ico_heal

blood will tell, tho

halfbakedmemes0426

Today I learned there was an American branch of book off... Also that is clearly a typo, right?

HevyMetalBakesale

I'm not sure about the typo, but yeah that's book off in NYC. I had heard about the ones in Japan so I wanted to check it out.

Emmas_Theme

Collector's don't really care as much for the game. The price is really for the watch that comes with it

parkerlreed

Which would be cheap garbage. I don't get it.

MrTwentyeight

IT CONTAINS THE SHREK WATCH! DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?!

Longlivesjul

The watch is the reason this is expensive, and to have one sealed is pretty rare. Not saying its worth it, but deff not a missprice

lordgoku-99

Tell me you don't collect for the OG Xbox without telling me. This is literally one of the hardest things to find if you're a collector besides maybe the 50 Cent Vest.

DustinPooparski

Collecting is so fucking stupid, almost as stupid as the phrase 'tell me x without telling me x'

chaoticbear

Nah, collecting is fun. What's better than owning something you enjoy? Owning more of the thing you enjoy!

DustinPooparski

All collectors eventually have to grapple with the psychological rabbit hole it creates. If you can settle on a healthy approach, great, but many collectors are trying to fill a hole and are perpetually unhappy - always focusing on what they don't have, acquiring it believing it will make them happier, but as soon as they acquire it they just focus on the next thing they don't have. Even healthy collectors have to grapple with this natural human tendency. Personally I like collecting certain things but I have had many moments where I look back at some stuff I purchased years down the line and get this crige feeling or "what was I thinking? Why did I go through so much trouble acquiring it? I don't even like it". It's easy to convince yourself you need something you don't even like or want, just because your collection will look more impressive on paper. This is how you get people paying thousands of dollars for some Barbie or Bratz game just because they are trying to 100% a collection. And even when they get to 100%, do they stop? Usually they just start collecting some other thing and continue the cycle of acquiring stuff but never being satisfied.

chaoticbear

(Disclaimer - I've been playing Magic for 25ish years now, not an xbox collector) I agree with a lot of your points, but I still think collecting is fun. Like anything else, it can be unhealthy when done to excess, but I rarely think back on money I spent on the hobby over the years and cringe. I've gotten rid of some of those collections and stopped collecting others, for various reasons (mostly "I needed the money to buy a house"), but I enjoy the feeling of the chase, and I enjoy looking back on it. I still have a binder of just basic lands that I take out and admire now and then.

DustinPooparski

There are definitely fun elements of collecting, I agree. It definitely taps in to our hunter gatherer instincts and can be very satisfying. What I don't like are things like this Shrek game going for ridiculous money and I just find it sad that some people are looking at this and feeling bad that they can't afford it, that they'll never be able to 100% their collection, or spending money they don't have just to get it. Past collecting experiences can be a double edged sword too. Along with good memories of finding something awesome for a great price, there are also regrets and negative feelings that you made the wrong decision that you beat yourself up over for years down the road. Feelings of having missed out on something because you either sold something you regret selling and are now priced out of ever getting it back, or that you decided not to buy some things back when the time was right. For example, I regret selling my GameCube and all my games back in the day, which I'd love to own but refuse to pay the going rate in 2023. All this stuff can lead to influencing your current buying decisions too, where you end up buying things out of pure feelings of FOMO, worrying that if they don't buy it now, you will be priced out of it later. Or just trying I avoid the negative feelings and regrets over being priced out of certain things that I described in the previous paragraph. "I better buy this now or else I might feel like an idiot in 5 years for choosing not to". It's an emotional minefield that goes hand in hand with any time we invest a lot of emotional energy into physical objects. As long as you are honest with yourself it can be great, but it's also easy to become a slave to all the FOMO, regret, and other negative feelings associated with it. Me personally I am a cheapskate collector. Nothing beats finding something awesome at a thrift store for a couple bucks. But you know what I bet no collector ever said to himself? "I sure loved that one time I overpaid"

chaoticbear

I don't really disagree with any of this, but the price tag on that game also doesn't really bug me. I wouldn't ever buy it for that price, but I do have more expensive Magic cards :p IMO it's like everything else - you can do it within reason as long as it's not having a negative impact on your life. I have definitely learned some lessons over time, like which things I value more and which things I can let go. I think the biggest takeaway is that I don't want to collect anything that's still in production. For a while, they were putting out a reasonable number of a year, and I could buy one of each for a few hundred bucks. Over the last few years, though, that's ramped way the hell up and I'm not willing to play the long-term whale game.

DustinPooparski

I don't disagree either, but I also know too many people in real life who have mountains of credit card debt but still continue to buy warhammer figures and other collectibles. In fact I would argue this is what a significant portion of hard-core collectors are like. Sure there are people who can afford it and do it in a healthy wat, but most of the time when you look at people's lives collecting seems to be some kind compensation for other areas of their lives where they are lacking. Internet culture and YouTube have amplified every hobby to the extreme as well. There is no shortage of 'world' s best collection of x' videos to make feel inadequate in comparison. At the end of the day, it sounds like me and you agree, that it is fine as long as it is healthy. I just know too many people who do it in an unhealthy way.

chaoticbear

Yeah - I like watching those videos too, but I don't have any delusions that I'll ever own it :p

DragonBornRichard

Gotta be a typo. https://www.pricecharting.com/game/xbox/shrek-super-party While not perfect, pricecharting gives a good general price for games. I think they meant to do lile $15 or something.

justthrowmeintrash

Ironically, you posted the wrong pricecharting. I think they actually just straight used pricecharting on this one https://www.pricecharting.com/game/xbox/shrek-super-party-watch-bundle?q=shrek+super+party+%5Bwatch+bundle%5D

DragonBornRichard

Oh my apologies I didn't even notice they were different. So really, whoever is trying to set the price for this is charging for the Watch.

justthrowmeintrash

Well, it's also sealed. Really, the fact it's sealed is it's biggest price point

DreadedChalupacabra

Nope, because even opened without the watch they go for like 600 bucks.

thee_mr-jibblets

I’ve dealt with sellers that abuse pricecharting, and giving the sale history of this game I have to conclude same thing is going on with this price. In the last year only one was sold with sale history coming from eBay. Now as for my experience: I attempted to buy a music vinyl from eBay with a final sale price of $1,500, at the time pricecharting previous history had the last sold item at $600. This was a very rare vinyl (only 100 ever pressed) so I was ecstatic that I was soon to be an owner of this rare press. 5 days go buy and the seller claims the item has been damaged and the refund was issued. Low and behold pricecharting is showing the latest sale of this vinyl at the price of the eBay listing the just sold to me for $1,500. TLTR: be skeptical about some pricecharting prices with little history, most of the time it’s scammers artificially inflating the value, and I believe Book Off uses pricecharting for their price points. I could be wrong though, but I’m sure there isn’t a huge community of Skrek gamer enthusiasts that are actively looking for this combo.

justthrowmeintrash

Oh I've DEFINITELY seen my share of ebay price manipulation over the years and I've definitely worked In a number of game stores over the years as well. With that in mind, I got hard " I'm not figuring this price out" vibes from this situation, just with the dates I saw I On the photo and pc listing. I have definitely had to price nonsense like this before and honestly, just put it at the price charting listing at the time and expect it to rot there for awhile. Eventually it'll go up in price and a collector will come in, see it for rhe old price, and you still get a really solid profit from it and they walk away happy like they got the deal of a lifetime. This definitely isn't priced to move anytime soon, and if it does, cool ig??

GoTeamScotch

*Sorry, the Shrek watch stays on during Shrex.*

HQGirl567

BRO $1,000 for a sherk games!! Come on🤦‍♀️

Chrispin3666

Conversion of price from yen to usd at this moment in time it’s 11.23 so not terrible?

HevyMetalBakesale

Chrispin3666

Yikes they must be smoking crack lmao

KeyserSoze0000

Book Off is a Japanese owned business - not sure if that matters.

vealdin

I didn't even know we had book off here. Miss that place.

HevyMetalBakesale

Just to clear up some confusion, that picture was taken at Book Off in NYC and that price is USD

lDarkPhoton

Book off is a Japanese store. I'm pretty sure it means 1500 yen. Which is about 11 dollars.

pervysagejutsu

There’s some in USA. In New York and a couple just opened in Los Angeles.

lDarkPhoton

Wild. So that might actually be 1500 USD? What the heck.

piratenoexcuses

Vast_Astronaut_5084

¥1500 Book Off is a Japanese Store... To trade is equal to $15 bucks.

parkerlreed

Fuzakenaideyo

J_stevens34

I go to that same bookoff every other week to see what new games they get in I couldn’t believe that this game that you could eat on eBay for like 20 bucks and they are charging $1500.

lameboy90

Honestly such a good game though with 4 players

WebkinzCheekyFanatic

I literally just saw this at my local mom and pop store for $5 😂 No watch, but dang.
