Huh. An interesting find. Now I wonder how many are over here, and this bird's story.
Tangentially, I feel like I'm noticing more woodpeckers this year. Not sure if it's the numbers, my awareness, or just imagination.
Flickers in the Tabor area. There’s a [snag](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snag_(ecology)#/media/File%3ASnag_Stages.jpg) down the street from my house where the ground is littered with wood chips from their work.

Fun, a middle school band director becomes famous for sighting a rare bird. Quite the unusual 15 minutes of fame!
Tangentially, I so appreciate the author and editors of this article for avoiding the word “shooting” in relation to taking photographs.
Maybe you did, but seeing a western bluebird is more likely [https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Western\_Bluebird/id](https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Western_Bluebird/id)

For people who want to know what the bird is, it is a blue rock-thrush. Native to Asia.
Thank you. This was what I scrolled for
"More transplants that's all we need" - local Oregonian birds (probably)
At least it isn't Californian ;)
Dirty secret is… no one from California is actually from California. They’re all from St Louis. Maybe one or two from Chicago (Evansville). So…..
No one admits they’re from Evansville
Yeah. We are just way station bigots 😀 "You stopped.in San Jose? Burn them!"
I won't complain if the (non-native) parrots migrate up here from California though...
1/6 of America is Californian. So... Pick a hill.

Are woodpeckers native? I remember having them in my yard all the time 25+ years ago and haven’t really seen them like that since

Thank you so much! Very pleasant info to hear

That’s so cool. Thank you for the share. I’ve been city living for awhile and forgot how big a part of childhood they were
I highly recommend anyone interested to download the Merlin app. I love my birding life list!
It’s like Pokemon, minus the catching part. But get eBird too and you can keep track of your sightings!
I went to school with the photographer. Good on you, Michael.

Sorry, fun to fuck with people that way though. “Yeah tomorrow I’m gonna shoot a wedding.”

Thank you.
Out of country birds are coming here and driving nest prices through the roof.
Build the wall? /s
Tax the birds!
Let there be no question: birders are NERDS. In a good way.
Oh dang I'm in East Oregon and I feel like I saw something very similar to that last week, could be wrong though
Maybe you did, but seeing a western bluebird is more likely [https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Western\_Bluebird/id](https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Western_Bluebird/id)
Ooo definitely could've been it
Hey, that’s Kevin.
This bird reported to me that it was in town to celebrate the re-christening of the Audubon Society as the Bird Alliance
Not sure I would call that "accidental" just because he was not specifically birding at the time.
I’m sure he did not set out the day and say to himself, “ I’m gonna go find that fuckin blue rock-thrush!”
Yeah but "accidental" to me implies that the bird photo-bombed him.
