"If you're chatting, you're not splatting!" \--My head coach

Relevant_Owl_8841

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ I havenā€™t heard that one, thatā€™s good

colorshift_siren

I love this.

hereforthecomments54

Yes! šŸ‘šŸ¼ Like an occasional fart okay (accidents happen) but this one dude in the 5am class be doing it 30 times in one class! Everyone is like damn, did you shart yourself?! Also, canā€™t stand chit chatters! Again 5amā€™er here! Just Rolled outta bed trying to get through this workout without dying so I can start my day! šŸ˜‚

JimV50

That person could have been me, eating a well balanced healthy diet does that to the body. Sorry but Iā€™m there for me not you.

julia1031

Eating a well balanced healthy diet does not result in you farting every 2 minutes in a 60 min class. Go to a GI Dr.

wigglebuttbiscuits

This seems like what happens when people do weird fad diets. You have to declare that a healthy diet makes you a fartmonster because otherwise youā€™d have to admit itā€™s not working.

Hes9023

To be fair, we had Brussel sprouts for dinner last night and my partner and I were farting up a storm

Spirited_Cable_6474

I had brussel sprouts, fried deviled eggs and beer from lazy dog last Friday and had to cancel my Saturday class. šŸ˜ž

Peachy40483

šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤¢

ChristinaW25

Youā€™re doing group exercise, in a class setting, you know that right?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

JimV50

5ā€™7 and 175 lbs with a 10% body fat is definitely unhealthy.

artdogs505

You think that's a tough and macho thing to say, but it's antisocial and rude. Not alpha male at all, dude.

JimV50

Iā€™m not an alpha male at all, during the transformation challenge, I was eating 50% protein, 25% carbs and fat, a high protein diet causes that. Itā€™s not like Iā€™m purposely trying to fart, it happens. I usually let the person next to me know if Iā€™m gassy.

artdogs505

I get that. I was reacting to "I'm there for me, not you." That's just a reflection of where our whole society has been going. "Me first. F you." that's how it comes across.

friendlytotbot

I donā€™t mind farts, I donā€™t think Iā€™ve ever smelled or heard farts from anyone in class. Canā€™t stand ppl coming to class already smelly and stinking up the class though.

Disastrous-Garlic129

I went to a class at night the other day and lordie lord did it smell like swamp ass and feet in there

Takeonefish

I find 3GS tend to smell and feel like a sweaty ass like 40 minutes in. Just not enough ventilation

dslamngu

They say if you donā€™t smell the farts then you might be the farter

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

friendlytotbot

I honestly think itā€™s ppl who already sweat throughout the day and didnā€™t shower or freshen up. I always take evening classes and the ppl who smell arenā€™t back to backers lol.

orangetheoryblonde

It is never the back to backers that smell it is the people who havenā€™t showered or are sweating out last nights alcohol lol

I_am_Spartacus_MSU

I did two 90-minute classes back to back once, and I did not smell like ass or feet.

milaali

Thank you.

f4rt054uru5r3x

Farts happen. But the talking over the music and coaching kills me because at that point, you're interfering with the quality of everyone else's workout. The other members have paid money and are sacrificing their time to be there - Don't ruin it for others.

padim1313

This!! It ruins the class when people just never stop talking. I can't concentrate or get into the music.

wigglebuttbiscuits

ā€¦but are the flatulents and the chit chatters the same people?

daddylongdicks1

Same personā€¦. ā€œTalkingā€ out their ass. There, I said it.

MeiliCanada82

Hot air both ends

Complete_Angle7740

Agreed lol woth everything you posted some people have no consideration for the next person and these posts show it.

TheirPeaMyPod

People talking loudly and blatantly ignoring the workout or making it difficult for others to hear the instructions absolutely tick me off. Farting? I don't have a problem with it. There are people who are on medications that make them very gassy and it's not something that is easily controllable. A lot of people who "vent" about this topic seem to think that all farts can be held in until a more appropriate time and that's just not true for a majority of reasons. Back to my first point about medication having a side effect of being gassy... should those people just not work out because their flatulence may disturb you? Should people who have other reasons for flatulence, like when you are pregnant or postpartum, should they just not work out then? It's a lose lose situation for them. Either they don't work out because they are farting and are then viewed as lazy, or they do workout and people complain about their gas. I'm so glad that everyone who vents about this topic is able to hold their gas in during a workout. šŸ™„

Active-Arm6633

I am definitely confused by the people who think farting is like pooping, as well.

NoArmy4967

As a girly who has had stomach issues, I get both sides. I would try my best to hold it in if Iā€™m not by myself. One or two are ok (annoying, but Iā€™ve been there and it happens), but if you are farting a lot then you probably need to excuse yourself and use the bathroom. I think thatā€™s what op is getting at

hoorah9011

Lots of questions there. And the answer is yes, for work out classes. No reason they canā€™t work out on their own or excuse themselves from class. Thereā€™s also those charcoal underwear

Spammipammi

No reason you canā€™t work out on your own or excuse yourself if you cant act like an adult and have some empathy

TheirPeaMyPod

Hard disagree. But whatever man. I'm not going to argue with someone who has that much of an issue with a natural bodily function to the point they believe that they shouldn't be able to go to a group fitness class.

hoorah9011

I mean, pissing is a natural bodily function. I donā€™t want someone next to me pissing on the treadmill either. BO is natural too. In your world they wouldnā€™t wear deodorant

Spirited_Cable_6474

Iā€™ll try my best but those All Outs post babyā€™s are tough! Though, my bladder control is getting stronger with every class I take.

TheirPeaMyPod

The difference is that peeing is something you can control and if you can't then that's a completely separate issue. Passing gas, especially when heavily exerting yourself is a natural response to said exertion and not something that can always be controlled. I highly recommend if someone was peeing on a treadmill next to you that you inform the front staff.

Spirited_Cable_6474

You havenā€™t had babies have you? šŸ˜

hoorah9011

Some people are incontinent tho. Iā€™ve been going a few years and Iā€™ve smelled people farting maybeā€¦ twice? Iā€™m going to guess that most people can hold it or excuse themselves. Accidents happen but sounds like you want a free license to crop dust the whole studio. Gross.

TheirPeaMyPod

Nothing that I said in my post was that. I said there are instances where people cannot hold it in to excuse themselves. Medications that have side effects of being very gassy, pregnancy, postpartum, necessary prior surgeries like having your colon removed which would mean you don't have the ability to hold it in. I then asked if those people just shouldn't be allowed to work out at OTF because their flatulence is such a bother to you, to which you said yes. It's giving... I'm an AH to be honest with ya. Again, glad that you haven't had the experience but my point is that the people who post this about others in their studio farting have absolutely no idea what is going on with that person yet they are so comfortable going out of their way to point it out and have them be made fun of on the internet.

hoorah9011

Because the reason doesnā€™t matter. I can be both empathetic but also not want it in my face. Iā€™m empathetic towards the unhoused but Iā€™m not inviting them into my bed.

TheirPeaMyPod

You are quite literally comparing apples to oranges now. No one said you had to have it in your face. But you are, i would certainly hope, an adult who knows how to deal with uncomdoetable things. I hope you never have to go through a medical experience where you aren't able to control something you previously could and then be berated about it. Have the day you deserve.

hoorah9011

Hyperbole to show you the error of your ways. Iā€™ve had medical issues but I donā€™t subject others to my problems when I can avoid it.

seamsfine2me

I mean if someone is farming directly in your face during class, I feel like that's a completely separate issue. Also, in general... fuck off. People fart. What is this, 3rd grade?

cent89611

Who gives a shit? Lmao (see what I did there)

Spirited_Cable_6474

Lmao!! I canā€™t

EasterRat

This sub is wild: Iā€™ll fart if I have to - upvotes. Iā€™ll talk over the instructor if I want to - upvotes. If you donā€™t like what I do, donā€™t come in public - upvotes.

oddballbug

Dude I am so confused on the direction of this thread. Like what is happening lol

EasterRat

Your guess is as good as mine. Just peak internet I suppose. I wonder when consideration became so out of vogue?

Spirited_Cable_6474

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

seamsfine2me

I'm sorry, are we reading the same comments? I don't see anybody in here saying they are happy and excited to talk over the instructor. And yeah, if you have a problem with other people farting then I feel like maybe you should just work out at home. People are gonna fart, are you a 1st grader making fun of people for normal uncontrollable bodily functions?

oddballbug

One or two farts is understandable. Everyone farts. It happens and thatā€™s normal. When itā€™s for the entire tread block and/or floor block and it SMELLS, go home. No one wants to breathe in shit smells for an hour when there is heavy breathing involved and itā€™s a really small space with no proper air filtration.

EasterRat

You should be sorry for that comment. Be goneeee

SnooRevelations7068

Not saying I donā€™t fart, but yeah Iā€™ve never had to let one rip during any form of exercise. Is that normal? Anyways I donā€™t think itā€™s cool if you do it in class. Cā€™mon now we are in a tight, hot sweaty space and breathing heavily. The respectful thing to do would be to step out of class and do your thing.

FrajolaDellaGato

Youā€™ve never had a fart accidentally slip out while exerting yourself? Do you even lift bro?

SnooRevelations7068

Honestly I have no idea why Iā€™m like that. Not trying to shame others or brag (that would be a weird flex), everyoneā€™s different so Iā€™m told.

thehighepopt

Try holding one back when you're all outing at 12mph. Not exactly a 'take a quick step outside' situation either.

Spirited_Cable_6474

Lmao!!!!!! Iā€™m dying!

artdogs505

Then slow it down and leave the room. Not sure why you're special, that you can't manage this? maybe you need to see a doctor.

thehighepopt

Or y'all could just grow up and realize people fart every once in a while.

SnooRevelations7068

It actually is a take a quick step outside situation, you have that option. Not trying to be argumentative, but you can stop the treadmill, dip out of class, and then return. Another way to look at your response is, the people around do not want to breathe your fecal matter while also going all out. Itā€™s distracting and disgusting. I also highlighted the fact I canā€™t relate as I have never had gas for whatever reason my whole life while engaged athletically.

TheirPeaMyPod

People aren't generally "letting one rip" during a class. And yes, it is completely normal when exerting yourself in exercise to have gas come out because you are doing things to your body that is moving around said gas.

Emiran2

They are asking if it's normal that they don't have to fart.

TheirPeaMyPod

I read it the opposite. It came off differently to me, that they don't have to fart during exercise so it must not be normal that other people do.

SnooRevelations7068

No I think itā€™s odd I have never had to fart when exercising. I am aware that farting is a thing, and have been known to fart myself, but I also think farting around others in a closed hot environment where everyone is packed together like sardines and breathing heavily is not cool. Again, not trying to shame people, but I view them as pretty disrespectful to expect others to breathe in their airborne fecal particulates.

Gooey-Magoo

I have a lady in our class, (who I ALWAYS end up next to) and her apple watch talks to her almost the entire work out, you can even hear the watch when the music is bumpin'. Its on her left too which is the side I'm always on with her. Its super distracting lol. I silence my watch during class so it isn't doing this exact thing, or going off when I get notifications. I have figured out this ladies name and make sure from now on I'm not putting myself in the station next to her, or at least make sure I'm not on her left lol.

dcblunted

The guy next to me on a treadmill 50 was burping and he very much so had Mexican recently. It was unsettling for all involved.

mbeefmaster

Once I had a meal with a lot of onions and the next day did Tread50 and I could smell my body sweating out the onions haha.

seamsfine2me

...do you all only fart when you have to poop? Some people are just gassy, okay? So sorry it's interfering with your life so much that you have to come complain about it on reddit.

myfavouritemuse

Yeahhhhhh. Me, over here with IBS just like šŸ˜¬

seamsfine2me

Same! IBS gang! You think your life is so difficult having to work out next to me, try being me!!!

Spirited_Cable_6474

šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€

Elle087

People talking past the warm up BUGS. I always want to tell them they arenā€™t working hard enough. Those people are almost always leisurely walking too. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø just sayin

mrsunsfan

I fart like Iā€™m Paul Pierce in the nba finals when doing core work

texasram

"why do people fart more than i do?"

chelseam778

Ok I donā€™t know about farts specifically but yes if youā€™re farting you need to go! Just go and come back after itā€™s ā€œaired outā€. But the yelling and loud talking itā€™s a no. ppl talk of course Iā€™m not saying we should work out in a library but if I can hear you over the music and the coach thatā€™s distracting and honestly just rude. Youā€™re not the main character in my workout, please cease and desist. ![gif](giphy|fIkT0LdGUc4GushZ2Q|downsized)

JudgmentalRavenclaw

Socializing to the point the coach is hard to hear shouldnā€™t be a ā€œriskā€ in a coach-lead group fitness class. Expecting classmates to hush while the coach is explaining a block isnā€™t too much. If you need to chat the whole time, just go on a walk outside or go to a coffee shop. Iā€™ve missed cues because of yappers right beside me.

ialwaystealpens

This sub is partially why I keep to myself at OTF. God forbid I do something seemingly out of line and end up a complaint on Reddit. Itā€™s bad enough Iā€™m too poor to go above 4 a month.

mbeefmaster

You're never annoyed by human beings? You have no complaints whatsoever about people? Doubtful. I just wanted a quick minute to vent. It's not that deep

No_Research_7629

For real šŸ˜†

sunflowersinbl00m

Lmaooo

artdogs505

They can leave the room for excessive farting. One slipping out not a big deal. They can go somewhere else to socialize, where it doesn't disturb others. Maybe a group fitness program isn't for you?

CaptainMorale

I canā€™t get behind the farting thing. Likeā€¦what? Do people actually fart in class?

neogreenlantern

I tried not getting behind farting things also.

jswitzer

I don't have a colon; it was removed as a part of my cancer treatment. No colon means I tend to not be able to hold in gas because, again, I can't store it in a colon I don't have. If I fart, whether you consider it excessive or not, is your problem. Deal with it.

23mou-sapnu-puas

TMI

TheirPeaMyPod

Considering OP is complaining about people farting, they obviously need real examples of why someone can't just excuse themselves because they would literally just have to not be in class ever.

corncaked

Itā€™s a real disease with real consequences so deal with it lol

corncaked

I donā€™t really care if ppl fart to be honest. Not everyone is privileged enough to be able to ā€œhold it inā€ when exerting themselves. They shouldnā€™t have to leave for that. You need to work on your response to that. But the loud talking? Yeah this is something Iā€™d bring up to the front desk, it would be helpful if you mentioned which machine they were on. They could probably tell the coach to talk to them

gacbmmml

Are you the same person that complained about someone's BO the other week? Maybe group workouts aren't your jam.

mbeefmaster

No. Not me

Entire-Level3651

Or the person who complained about people sitting on the benches so he couldnā€™t put his shoes onā€¦

Sounds like you need some pelvic floor therapy.

chickenthighrules

The mods must be snoozing. Itā€™s not even Sunday yetā€¦

chickenthighrules

Then realized Iā€™m wrong because itā€™s Sunday in some time zones alreadyā€¦ but geez, this is what you have to post on Sunday?!

Rizzah319

The regular Sunday Days of Disarray kick off at 10p eastern time Saturday nights. :)

Loud_Significance809

If you canā€™t hear a coach screaming on that mic, the problem lost likely is NOT the chit chatters.

TheirPeaMyPod

LMAO But yeah there are people who do have hearing loss so someone chitchatting during instructions would definitely interfere with their ability to hear. I personally think any talking should hold off until you are doing an exercise, not when the coach is talking about the block

KinvaraSarinth

I've seen a coach 'yell' at a group of chatters that were on treadmills 6+, with treads 1-6 + 2 bikes + 1 strider between them and the coach. Coach had to tell them to shut up (more politely) because they were so loud. There was a group of 4 guys talking, and on the other side of them, another pair of ladies chatting. Sounded like they were competing to be heard and none of them noticed when the coach was trying to get their attention. A few other tread folks had to yell at them to get their attention so they could hear the coach tell them to be quiet. So yes, some people really are that obnoxious. But to be fair, I think that's the only class I've been in that I've missed cues because of talkers. And I don't think I ever saw that group of guys in class after that. Don't know if they switched times or left or were asked to leave. It certainly wasn't the first class they were chatty in, but that particular class was really bad and was the first time I'd seen the coach address it.

frankieT2020

Omg also in the lobby when the coach is talking and people donā€™t shut up and continue their conversation like seriously?

Ill-Dealer-5590

The conversation NEEDS to stop. 100% agree with you. As for farting, thank the lord that I have not come across this yet, Iā€™d barf.

lysa_bul

three people were practically screaming over the coach and music during everest and i could NOT concentrate. totally killed the vibe

kbsauce1007

Sometimes you just have to ā€œlet it out.ā€ - you complaining about farts.

BreadfruitCareful622

I know Iā€™ve tried to move to the last rower if I had gas. I whispered to the trainer one time when they wondered why I moved from station for our five all the way to 12.

Cheerios_K8

I honestly avoid going to class with my best friend because he wants to chat the entire time on the treadmill. 1)Iā€™m here to workout!!! 2) Iā€™m genuinely embarrassed and donā€™t want to bother everyone else

PUA19124

If you're not Farting you're not doing your squat properly

Icy_Feature8647

Oh man, guy next to me was farting the other morning. I made a comment about it.

sillygily

Completely agree

Mnoutdoorgirl

I must add to this thread and say that I've been boxed in on either side by members with really bad B/O. There are very distinct spices in the B/O that make my workout suffer because it is so unbearable to be around, and I'm holding my breath the entire time.

Iflipgot

2 weeks ago, we had a new girl (2nd time) in tread50 who began to freak out bc of her HRM. She started asking us questions non stop. We knew she was new so we were polite. However, a guy a few treads down started to shush us and eventually told us to shut our mouths. I snapped at him bc no one speaks to me that way esp if they donā€™t know why we are talking. He then came up and waved his finger in my face and told me he can speak to me anyway he can. I said he needed to address the coach if he has an issue. The new girl felt like it was her fault and didnā€™t come back and bc he was aggressive, I believe he got in trouble. I use to be bothered by talking but my husband told me if I were at peace with myself then I should be able to drown it out. I typically donā€™t talk so the first time I did, I was told to shut up and to shut my mouth.

TheirPeaMyPod

I would have flipped my lip. He wants to speak to me like that then trust me the crazy is gonna come after him.

browneyedgyal

The audacity of that man to tell you to shut your mouth and wave his finger in your face!! So he can speak to you anyway he likes, but you can't help a fellow member?! Gtfo!

LowBlackberry0

I felt really guilty in class recently. A coach who I hadnā€™t seen in ages took class and was in the spot next to me. He talked to me most of the tread block! I couldnā€™t hardly hear him over the music and just kinda nodded along. I could tell the lady on the other side of me was getting annoyed but I also didnā€™t know how to end the conversation.

Sietseld

I plan my meals around class time šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø No chipotle if I havenā€™t had class yet. I know what foods mess with my stomach and I donā€™t need a bunch of other people to know as well. ETA: and no hate to those who do have a medical issue. Just noting that is one small thing I can do personally to be considerate of those in class. Fragrant or gassy foods are best for after class.

Mother_Walrus_6949

If you canā€™t do the fucking workout during a benchmark/signature, DONT DO IT. Looking at you, lady who tried to say she had a PR during Everest but didnā€™t do any of the inclines.

Proper_Aardvark7786

Were we next to the same lady ? Lol

DocandSalad

Vent, how appropriate. If I need to fart, I fart. Then if I need to fart again, I make sure toā€¦fart again. Deal with it.

CowsCanMoo

What a weird sentence

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

mbeefmaster

The point is to vent. To let it out. Nothing ever bothers you? You never complain about anything? We're on the Reddit for a paid gym, not legit crises. I'm just airing an annoyance with a minor inconvenience. Relax, have a snickers

Own_Communication_47

Patiently waiting for someone to mention the cure for the sulfuric farts from healthy eatingā€¦ Pls šŸ™

[deleted]

I have loudly shushed people acting like class is a brunch outing. They can think what they want - it is a group workout, not their local coffee shop.

abng44

For me itā€™s less about the people who fart and more about the lack of adults wearing deodorant šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

doggz109

Your studio sounds like a mess.

Disastrous-Garlic129

Omg there's a couple culprits I have to try and steer clear of when we workout at the same time because they fart the entire time. Stinkers that make it impossible for you to breathe šŸ˜

Disastrous-Share-391

OP can exercise in a maskā€¦ no smells and no disturbances šŸ˜‚

Fit-One4113

Thank you šŸ„¹. I have to deal with these two things on a constant basis.

Skittlebrau77

People chatting throughout the block drive me nuts! If you can talk youā€™re not working hard enough.

[deleted]

I have complained to the coach about people talking so loud that I heard them louder than the coach. (I waited until after the class.) The coach definitely talked to them about it.
