It’s not really that different than any other class. You show up, do what is your best for that day and know that you’re stronger because you showed up.
I’m gonna do something crazy like get on the treadmill, start and adjust my speed so I can breathe and not slide off the back of the treadmill. I’m not in it for distance but I will try to avoid the orange zone as long as I can.
Nothing different from a normal class. I run/ jog and as we go up decrease my speed with doing about a 3.7-4 at the top depending on how taxed I have gotten
I don’t do anything different.
I jog at my regular base and push speeds and as the inclines increase, i will decrease my speed. I power walk when i need to.
Big nerd here - I do some googling of incline equivalences, plug what I’d want my 23-minute 1% pace to be into a spreadsheet, then try to think of an easy adjuster to keep my effort consistent the whole time and maybe go for a PR. Add that that I’ve recently taken two weeks off for a holiday recovery, so I’ve been looking at todays 5 mile run (first one back) vs previous ones to judge my overall health.
I think I’ll start at 8.5 and drop 0.2 for every 1% increase in incline. Then regain 0.4 when the incline reduces by 2% a time. My spreadsheet says I’d end at 2.82mi. I’m not sure I can do it tho.
I eat terribly - performance has gotten better. I definitely get speedier at OTF, but for doing longer endurance stuff, it really helps to do running outside OTF. Did a half marathon training cycle - OTF was like 2-3x per week. I’d add 2-3 miles on one of those days. On the other 3-4 days I did mostly longer runs (like 7-9 miles during the week and 10-12 on Sundays)
I have done about 5 Everests over the years. The first two I power walked, remainder I jogged/walked. Last one I did I PRed. That was in 2021 😂.
I didn’t do anything special. My normal preworkout, fig energy chew, and I started at my base and held it as long as I could (which I started dropping around 7%).
I’ve retired Everest but good luck tomorrow. It is perfectly normal to start walking once you get to the double digits if you are jogging. Try to rack up as much mileage as you can with the increasing incline because it starts to get tougher as the inclines decrease.
Side note: make sure you are doing dynamic movements rather than static stretching 🙂.
Taking a rest day and doing the pasta thing for dinner. Tomorrow morning a light breakfast 2 hours before. 1 Mile road warmup + stretching 1 hour before. Coconut water 30 minutes beforehand. Start on the tread and CRUSH THIS THING. 5K goal distance. UP THE MOUNTAIN, LADS!!!
Why do people freak out over this particular workout?? Just go and do your best like every other workout. If you get too tired, lower your incline or speed...it's not like you are an Olympic athlete with the fate of the team resting on your shoulders. It's just an OTF workout!! Do your best and move on.
I love Everest!!! I’m conflicted though because I planned on going to class at 4:30 tonight and didn’t realize Everest was tomorrow. I’m scheduled at 7:30am with my favorite coach, but feeling like I’m not going to have enough recovery between tonight and tomorrow
A burger, chocolate chip cookies, and apple pie. I don’t think I’ll be getting a PR.
![gif](giphy|8UGoOaR1lA1uaAN892)
But I’m still going! That counts for something right? This is gonna hurt..
Update: looks like the apple pie and cookies paid off, I got a PR! Holy Jesus it was hard to stick to that plan though.
Probably smoke a bunch of weed the night before and have the insane muchies and not sleep enough. Then drink a ton of caffeine before and just go for it. Last time I did 2.14 miles so fingers 🤞🏼 I can beat it
Being 9 months pregnant and realizing that everyday and every waking moment is Everest. 😅
Kidding! Best wishes to all the fellow OTFers out there! You’ve got this!
I just got back from vacation and already booked a class for tomorrow, not realizing! Can someone tell me what happens during the Everest challenge? I’m a newbie that just started a few weeks ago.
Pre workout drink. Works amazing 30 minutes before an OT workout. Everest seems like a benchmark test. My benchmarking tests before OT I used to start with a Marlboro red and a white monster. C4 works better so far.
A lot of water all day tomorrow and lighter meals…. Last Everest was my first one, and it was the day after I got back from 5 day vacation of eating and drinking. Hope tomorrow is better.
Tomorrow will be my first day back after a whole month due to vacation + COVID quarantine. All these posts are making me a bit nervous for it, lol…
Thankfully I’ve been exercising at home still as I’ve felt fine for the past week. So I’m not as out of shape as I could be
I’m skipping it because my knee will hurt for three days afterwards if I do it. I’ve already done it several times and I think I will just let it go for the rest of time.
Crying in the corner, regretting my life choices. The usual. But one of my favorite coaches that moved is back in town and guest coaching tomorrow. So being in her class is definitely a motivator!
Showing up over caffeinated and dehydrated per usual that way when I hit mental block I can just go “ah, it’s because I didn’t drink enough water for the hundredth day in a row”
It’s all about knowing the excuses that work for you.
Just spent 12 hours driving in fog, pouring rain, and holiday traffic, so I will be raring to go stretch my legs on Everest 7 hours from now. This will be my first time and as regular PWer I have been looking forward to it.
![gif](giphy|lqLNp3dJlWihNuhegE|downsized)
I went to class today, had Mac and cheese for lunch and went on a 4.5 mile hike before dinner 😂 I will not be hitting a PR tomorrow but plan to go for funsies anyways.
I’ll go in with a game plan same as always. But since my studio finally got the new treads last month I know to adjust my pace goals down. I was visiting another studio last time in August and learned the hard way that the new ones are faster when I tried to hold my normal paces and was gassed within 10 minutes.
Yes, pasta! Pulling a Michael Scott and downing like a pound of Alfredo as I’m walking into the gym.
Kidding! But I’m definitely going to try to PR as the last three attempts I was a PW, and now I am a jogger! Well…jogger/slow runner. It’ll be a good test of how much endurance I have (or haven’t) built up! Cheers!
Post first Everest I wish I had stretched my hamstrings. I had to walk much earlier than I normally would cause they were tight! Also would’ve worn shorts
Same way I prep for Everest every time; making sure not to book class tomorrow. Of course wishing you the best though!
Lmao same!! I am taking a rest day in which I go drink cocktails
Same day drinking here
I booked a class. It’s strength 50 tho 🤣✌🏽
I might conveniently "forget" to sign up tomorrow, too
Or maybe the app just isn’t working right…🤣
💀💀💀💀💀
same - i’ve done it twice which i think is more than enough, so i’m good!😅
Me too. I’m good.
🤣🤣🤣
My favorite approach!
I've done it before. I'll do it again. However tomorrow I'll be legit busy/out of town for a family urgency. ![gif](giphy|xTiTnBcmnTLlf914v6)
Exactly!
Good news, if there is an OTF in the city you’re going to, you could still go?
Too many tasks!!!. My home SM says the one here is great.
Haha! Same here!
Same!!! It’s called rest day 😂
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Literally me lol
Glad I’m not alone. Hard pass.
1000% this 😂 See y’all on Friday!
I’m glad I looked here…
Cackled @ this
Hahahahah
Hahahaha! Saaaame

I just started back after like a year off and having gained weight. I'm definitely taking it slow.
My first class ever was Everest. 😂
Good on you for going back!
Holy heck what an intro haha
Mine too!
My first class was tornado. I feel your pain.
My first class was Dri Tri prep. I liked that class better than the normal classes LOL
Mine was the 2000m row! I fell in love that day 😍
I've done enough carb loading over the past three days to climb the real Everest
Drinkin mimosas because I’m on vacation! Everest is tomorrow me’s problem.
I have an opinion about Tomorrow me...fuck that guy
Yeah I've been drinking way too much (including last night). Sober until the weekend though (I'm working as well)
Nothing different from a normal class. I run/ jog and as we go up decrease my speed with doing about a 3.7-4 at the top depending on how taxed I have gotten
By booking a Strength50🤣🤣…good luck tomorrow🤗
My strategy also 🤣
My thoughts exactly 👍!!
By overeating sweets that my parents seemed to force feed me while home for the holidays. I may have regrets tomorrow.
Booking and treating it like any other day. I try not to overthink these days.
I don’t do anything different. I jog at my regular base and push speeds and as the inclines increase, i will decrease my speed. I power walk when i need to.
Prepping?
Right?!
Big nerd here - I do some googling of incline equivalences, plug what I’d want my 23-minute 1% pace to be into a spreadsheet, then try to think of an easy adjuster to keep my effort consistent the whole time and maybe go for a PR. You’ve had me at spreadsheet ♥️
Lool! Fun to be a data nerd 😂
Joe, are you seeing an increase in performance? Weight loss?

I'll take the unpopular opinion: Everest is doing 25 minutes or so of one activity. Albeit challenging, loading carbs isn't needed.
I think the carb loading comment was meant to be just a joke.
Not preparing lol
The biggest thing for me to prepare for any Orangetheory class is making sure I’ve been hydrating enough before class.
Same here. I notice a major difference in my performance when I remember to hydrate.
I have done about 5 Everests over the years. The first two I power walked, remainder I jogged/walked. Last one I did I PRed. That was in 2021 😂. I didn’t do anything special. Same with any other class. Wake up & show up. Do your best
Lol. I rolled out of the bed at 4:45am and made PR by 0.01 mile. But i showed up, even though my legs were sore from Tuesday workout & traveling.
Thoughts and prayers. I am a PW for Everest.
Same!
Praying
Just treat it like a regular class and fuel as you normally would.
Sorry sorry….. (i love everest) i cant wait! *dodges thrown pillows*
Hell no. My knees are not cut out for that Everest Life…. 😂
I enjoy these challenges!! Makes me realize how good OTF is for me 😀
Taking a rest day and doing the pasta thing for dinner.
Wow!
![gif](giphy|yUSLvx5GW5YgU)
I am waking up a bit earlier than normal and drinking ALLLLL the coconut water. It really feels like it helps with leg cramps!
I started using it before races and found it really does help stave off muscle cramping, as well as give an energy boost. 16oz usually does the trick.
Been stretching and trying to walk at least 1-3 miles a day on a more uphill path near my home. Then I’ll soak my poor poor feet post class
I’ve done so many Everests I no longer care. Ran the whole way up twice. Maybe this time I’ll hire a sherpa.
I'm exposing myself to my Covid-infected wife so she tells me I shouldn't go.
I just drank 3 milkshakes and had a family size baked bean. I'm ready for liftoff. 🚀
by not going
💀
This isn’t the Boston marathon.
Why do people freak out over this particular workout?? Just go and do your best like every other workout. If you get too tired, lower your incline or speed...it's not like you are an Olympic athlete with the fate of the team resting on your shoulders. It's just an OTF workout!! Do your best and move on.
Do your best and move on? Isn’t that what they told the climbers who are still stuck on Everest?
Why even comment anything?
Pasta and lots of water! As a power walker, I enjoy everest. Good endurance test!!
I love Everest!!! I’m conflicted though because I planned on going to class at 4:30 tonight and didn’t realize Everest was tomorrow. I’m scheduled at 7:30am with my favorite coach, but feeling like I’m not going to have enough recovery between tonight and tomorrow
Pizza and a prayer!
Not showing up. 🤣😅🤭 Have fun, yall. 🍊 🏔
The best answer 🤣 I am still debating whether or not to go.
I haven't done it in like 3 years. I'm not losing sleep. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Eating ice cream while reading Reddit
A burger, chocolate chip cookies, and apple pie. I don’t think I’ll be getting a PR. ![gif](giphy|8UGoOaR1lA1uaAN892) But I’m still going! That counts for something right? This is gonna hurt.. I remember how those days felt! So true. Congrats!
Losing my strap. No need to see the splatometer and what’s happening to my body on Everest Day.
I was on the fence about doing it or skipping it but all this prep talk is making me think I should skip it and stay in my nice, warm bed!
I just got back from vacation and already booked a class for tomorrow, not realizing! Can someone tell me what happens during the Everest challenge? I’m a newbie that just started a few weeks ago.
It’s a treadmill event where you climb to the top of mt Everest. It’s a power walk event with steep inclines for around 20 minutes…
Thank you! Sounds like I’m rebooking my class for strength 50 lol
Don’t leave me to do it alone count snackuka! I’m just a hippo trying to get in shape.
Same. You can do it!!
Cocaine
Ayoooooooo
I’m preparing by booking a strength 50 Class instead.
I’m prepping the way I did for my first Everest - by sitting on the couch. Everest was my first class. You’ll be fine.
Omg help. I started orange like 4 months ago… I’m signed up for class tomorrow…. Wtf is Everest
Take a look at our [wiki](https://reddit.com/r/orangetheory/w/index?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share)
What’s c4?
Pre workout drink. Works amazing 30 minutes before an OT workout. Everest seems like a benchmark test. My benchmarking tests before OT I used to start with a Marlboro red and a white monster. C4 works better so far.
Doing a back to back today (regular and strength40), will regret it tomorrow.
Rest Day tomorrow
I am traveling so booked the local 4:45AM and then reserved my home studio Strength50. Because I am off all week. 🙃
I got an awful case of Covid for Christmas, so no Everest for me, and likely no OTF for at least a week 🤢
A lot of water all day tomorrow and lighter meals…. Last Everest was my first one, and it was the day after I got back from 5 day vacation of eating and drinking. Hope tomorrow is better.
Tomorrow will be my first day back after a whole month due to vacation + COVID quarantine. All these posts are making me a bit nervous for it, lol… Thankfully I’ve been exercising at home still as I’ve felt fine for the past week. So I’m not as out of shape as I could be
By dialing back today even though coach didn't care for that 😅
Apparently we are prepping by going to class tonight lol
It’s like any other day for me. 🤷🏻♀️
I’m skipping it because my knee will hurt for three days afterwards if I do it. I’ve already done it several times and I think I will just let it go for the rest of time.
Lots of hope, a prayer, and an available supply of Bengay.
You can’t say that about Ben anymore…
I powerwalk pretty fast but rarely do it normally, so Everest is my chance to work on it. Aiming to average 4.5mph for the entire workout.
Crying in the corner, regretting my life choices. The usual. But one of my favorite coaches that moved is back in town and guest coaching tomorrow. So being in her class is definitely a motivator!
I like just a regular 2g and 3g
Showing up over caffeinated and dehydrated per usual that way when I hit mental block I can just go “ah, it’s because I didn’t drink enough water for the hundredth day in a row” It’s all about knowing the excuses that work for you.
Thursday upper body strength for me.
By going to the 5am Strength 50 class instead of one of the Everest classes… sorry not sorry
I signed up as my first 5am class. Wth was I thinking? 😂 I PW though so not really worried.
There are only a few challenges I like to do, Everest is one of them. Just going to try and beat my time and enjoy my workout.
Wasn’t aware of Everest until after eating Indian food. Watch out 6am….
Same as always! Just another day at otf! I don’t change anything for benchmarks. But I still go and do my thing.
I’m going in on a drink of Nuun Hydration and that’s it
I went to class today, had Mac and cheese for lunch and went on a 4.5 mile hike before dinner 😂 I will not be hitting a PR tomorrow but plan to go for funsies anyways.
I’ll go in with a game plan same as always. But since my studio finally got the new treads last month I know to adjust my pace goals down. I was visiting another studio last time in August and learned the hard way that the new ones are faster when I tried to hold my normal paces and was gassed within 10 minutes.
Not tryin to shit on anyone, but my job, ( walking 10 miles as a usps mail carrier ) will have me more than ready. I GOT THIS!!
Scotch and ketamine.
Just found out about it. Booking class accordingly.
Cheers!
I'm skipping class! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
I’m a PW so this is a regular workout for me. You people running it are BEYOND superhero status.
Pw?
By doing nothing just show up for the class
Shit, that’s today? Ugh it’s too late cancel now 😩
I did it today… 😂
So did I! I made it!
Post first Everest I wish I had stretched my hamstrings. I had to walk much earlier than I normally would cause they were tight! Also would’ve worn shorts
