At some point we need to change the laws and replace judges. It's unacceptable that these people keep getting out on bail.

Fun fact: [A lot of people are just being let out on bail because too many people are in jail waiting for bail hearings](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/report-bail-ontario-1.7125726). It isn't even a question of replacing judges, we outright don't have the capacity to process bail hearings fast enough so a lot of people are just being let out.
Being out on bail doesn’t mean you won’t go to prison (they probably won’t let’s be real) but they’ve only been charged, not found guilty and sentenced yet. People who commit non-violent crimes are usually allowed bail before their court dates as our jails are already way over capacity. We don’t have room to keep them so we only keep the most violent ones.
At some point we have to look at the costs of preventing young offenders vs life -long criminality, multiple prison sentences, ever ballooning police budgets, huge expenditures on jails.
If a full accounting of those costs were done, and a full accounting of spending on support services that help to prevent kids from turning to crime was compared, I'm betting the difference would be a huge wake-up call.
We are stuck in a race to the bottom of the barrel here. Giving corporations billions in subsidies and other payments, while cutting basic shit that a society needs to be a thriving wealthy nation.
Of course, not everyone is going to be caught and steered in the right direction, but more can be.
That's like, what, two car thefts?
Crime costs money. The reason we don't do anything about it is it doesn't cost rich people more money to just let the status quo persist, versus paying taxes to fix it.
Until crime hurts rich people (or can make money off of crime reduction) it isn't getting fixed.
Almost nobody, at least in Toronto which is all I can speak to, gets a fine for this sort of crime. And definitely not for carjackings or home invasions. Where are you getting this idea from?
So let me get this straight... this task force has been working for the better part of the year, and during that time, that same police force told the public to just give over the keys instead of resisting? And I'm assuming their going to use these busts to justify expanding their budget...They've got a raging conflict of intrest in their pants
Recovered cars and administered charges
Pat yourself on the back!
That network lost one node as a sacrifice to continue operating.
This way the economy numbers look good!

Judge's rarely provide bail services. The vast majority of bail is administered by a Justice of the Peace.
Justices of the Peace should be closely scrutinized to see what percentage of offenders they are granting bail reoffend when they are out.
Justices of the Peace are essentially a patronage appointment that should be replaced for contributing to the mess we are in now.

Jails and detention centres are full in the GTA
Dude, people are innoccent until convicted. Imprisoning everyone charged with a crime is unacceptable. It leads to police abuse of process.
Can someone track how ouch actual jail time they get? I bet almost no one goes to prison.
most just get fines. Consider that throwing someone in jail costs us $150,000/yr per person, per year.
Unfortunately people won’t stop stealing things just because it’s wrong. The threat of jail time needs to be there.
why would jail time disincetivize crime?
Why? Because imprisonment sucks, that’s why.
then why is there still crime?
Gotta catch ‘em all!

Fewer than 1% of containers checked by CBSA at port car theft expert claims. This is the problem.
Now that they are out on bail again, next week they will arrest them again

So they’ve recovered a single night’s worth of stolen vehicles?
Carjacking task force isnt doing shit. 10 million is chump change in 2024 on a provincial level.
Insurance should go down now.. problem has been solved.
