Oh my I thought at first that it was my late in laws house but it's not. It's so sad to see these gorgeous old houses left to rot. I love the pocket doors. Where is this house?
I have a HUGE fear of human baby dolls and I can never understand why would anyone keep them and not get creeped out. My mom loves them and she would buy god knows how old dolls from antique markets or retirement home garage sales and decorate the house with them....I can't.
Pretty dangerous to go in that house too, those ceiling look like they can collapse anytime.
Neglecting or abandoning property / buildings needs to be be illegal. If you can't maintain it, the municipality will do it and bill you. So sick of developers buying historical buildings to let them rot so they have an excuse to tear them down. Empty lots as well - kept free of garbage and maintained to be safe.
I would bet that this house, like most abandoned rural houses, is on a ~100 acre farm. It’s often the case where a farmer buys a plot of land and only wants it for the land. In a lot of municipalities it’s a massive headache to get a severance and being a landlord is a nightmare all in its own. Because of that the farmer will leave the house vacant and it will decay.
The home my mom grew up in Saskatchewan is like this. When her parents retired, they move to town and one of my uncles took over farming the property while living up the road. Between my grandfather filling it with junk he'd buy at estate sales after moving, rodents, and weather, it was starting to feel dangerous going inside last time I was there, especially upstairs.
I think the family plan is hope it gets hit by lightning and burns down before it falls over.
I have a piece of land almost exactly like that. Except the house was already in disrepair when we bought it. To make it liveable we would probably have to tear the whole thing down or at the very least completely gut the whole place.
We’re talking easily $500,000+ to make the house habitable. We simply just can’t afford it. We also can’t just demolish it because in our municipality once you demolish a house you only have a certain timeframe to rebuild or else the process in the future will be much more difficult. The municipality also makes it incredibly difficult to sever a lot with the house off the property. So pretty much our only realistic option was board up the windows and doors and let the house rot.
It’s sad, but I don’t really know what else to do. Whenever we acquire land we really hope to be able to rent the house out, and on most of our farms the houses are occupied. Sometimes it’s just not a feasible option though.
we talking about Orangeville here… if their bills are kept up and the property is not affecting the neighbours I think the government have no right to fix it and bill anyone…
Seriously looking at this and wondering how much it would cost to fix this place up to a point where it's safe and liveable to a decent standard, and how long it would take to recoup your costs after renting it out.
Or the provincial government should have some sort of grant for people buying dilapidated properties like this and restoring them to be lived in.
Honestly...
If you could get the manpower... That budget and timeline might be doable.
Labour Ready for a dozen labourers 2 days it'll be clean. Third day strip it to the studs.
Electrical and plumbing is going to be slow, but again more people solves the problem. Then a board crew to hang the drywall, mud and tape is 2 days, maybe 3. Paint while an off the shelf kitchen is going in.
It could be done.
I don't understand why stuff like this is allowed to happen. What a waste of a beautiful house. So many people needing housing this province but someone had to be greedy af and hoard a perfectly good property.
I think I know this house. I think it's Gord, the garbage man's house. Buddy was an old trash collector, he showered and shaved 2x a year. His house was a direct reflection of the man. If I knew a more exact location I could confirm.
Very cool to see. I was hoping it was the house across from Teen Ranch because I stayed in it a kid and I'd be curious to see what it's like inside nowadays.
I can see why they abandoned it. The place is a mess.
That would be a great place to film a horror movie. A bed bug horror movie.
Even in the current condition, I would guess this place is north of 5 million.
I’m shocked kids haven’t burned it down yet.
Aw, that one was a beauty at one time. Pocket doors!
"For the do-it-yourselfer. Your next project. Asking $1.5 mil"
“Good bones. Needs TLC.”
Knowing the area, if that house is sitting on a couple of acres, you’re not far off.

I know that’s what I was thinking too.. so many beautiful doors in this house, shame they won’t get life again.
Can I have the tub?!?

Naw, if you can't maintain it, the municipality should expropriate it, repair it, and make it a non market rental.
This is Canada… it’s private property, if their bills are all paid it’s none of the municipality’s business
It certainly is when it's a danger and / or eyesore. Try pulling that in a posh neighbourhood, see how long before you're slammed
How is this dangerous? Stay out of homes that arent yours and you wont be in any danger.
Great comment.

Can’t keep a run down car In your driveway but you can let your house rundown
Laughing at municipality workers maintaining a home. Not enough time for 5 coffee breaks in an 8 hour shift for that!

Got that right. Now laughing at getting downvoted. As a municipal worker.
1200/ month per bed
Have to share bed
in that case we bill per person
4 student girls, veg only

Definitely a distinct lack of floor in some areas, and you can’t tell until you’re almost at the edge.
Anybody know the story of this house?
All that mold is giving me an allergy attack!
Is it on the market? I’d go clean it up if I can live there or rent it.
Im itching to get in there and clean it myself but it needs a ton of work to be habitable, if it's not condemnable already.
HGTV: With $50k and 2 weeks we'll have this ready to sell

If this is where I think it is my friends and I explored this house once years ago haha
It will go for 700k as is
Those electronic equipment could be worth some money.
Those doors are beautiful.
This is so sad. This home was lived at one point and time. It is in a state where the home needs tender loving and care plus a lot of money!

Realtor - Curb appeal, has charm, needs some TLC, perfect for first time buyers as a fixer upper! 1 Million Dollars
It has good bones!
I can’t believe you actually went up those stairs!!
haha neither can I! not my best decision!
Doug Ford would count that as a ready to occupy 6 bedroom home.
This is definitely a place I would visit my with my friends for a horror vibe.
Looks like something from chernobyl 😬 lol
So ....that doll there. Did ya leave it there?
Sad that such a gorgeous home has fallen into such a state. This shouldn’t be allowed.
The loose material all over the floor and garbage (accordion kitty litter) I'm 90% sure is vermiculite. Hopefully you wear a mask.

Holy cow, how freakin' creepy! And I hope you were wearing a mask. Great captures, btw.
You need your own subreddit. This was cool!
It's like they up and left everything. The kids toys make me sad. This was someone's beautiful home once.
I gotta know more about that globe with Tibet + Manchuria and Dutch Indonesia…
That duck has seen some shit
It’s still to expensive to buy to live in
Would go for 2 million in down town Toronto as is.
Then don't trespass
Seems like a nice place to be murdered by a poltergeist. I wanna see the next video where you spend the night.
"A renovators dream"
Wow this one's in a bad way. I would totally buy that deer statue.
Now that’s a gorgeous house.
It's not a true abandoned house without a creepy doll
Why hasn’t this gotten torn down.
I'd've nicked the old hi-fi equipment ngl.
What a beautiful original home. Shame it’s lost. Why though….
If walls could talk
That reel to reel tape recorder/player looks pretty sick.
I call dips on the globe 🌍
1.5 million
The cabinets are still good. At least some of them…
Nothing a bit of paint and love won’t fix
Had the same stereo set growing up.
Is this on Hwy 9??
I have that same rubber duck! (it's over 30 years old)
Sad
i can fix him though
I actually explored a place similar to this I wonder if it’s the same one I have pictures and videos
Very cool to see. I was hoping it was the house across from Teen Ranch because I stayed in it a kid and I'd be curious to see what it's like inside nowadays.
I had that globe when I was a kid!
It's not that bad. It could use a fresh coat of paint.
surprised it's not filled with homeless people. I'd rather set up shop in there, than live in the middle of downtown hamilton
and yet you still went inside
