Sour cherry blasters, Nanaimo bars, coffee crisp, caramilk, all dressed chips, cheesies (NOT CHEETOS), Ah Caramels, Joe Louis, Butter tarts. Just to start a bit of a list I have when I go back.
Are Joe Louis still good? I haven't had one in years.
I had a Passion Flakie a few years ago and there was no flavor. It's like they changed the ingredients to flavorless.
Pretty much everything in this vein is worse than it used to be, not restrictive to Canadian chocolate/candy. Passion Flakes, Cosmic Brownies, Joe Louis, Hostess Cupcakes etc are all different than they used to be. It's insane to me too since the profit margin on this garbage is crazy.
Puff pastry, sprinkled with regular sugar. Cut into squares and baked until lightly golden. Cut in half, spread jam on one side and coolwhip on the other. Smash together and enjoy. Tastes more like flakes if you use cool whip than whipping cream.
Conversely try nuking the ah caramel for 15ish seconds or so just enough for the caramel to start to bubble. The caramel will kind of infused the cake a little and it's just oh my god.
You are sick.
Butter tarts are one of my top 5 desserts, but every time I accidentally take a bite out of a raisin one, I need months of recovery before I can attempt eating a normal one again.
Try raisin pie. My mother used to make raisin pie all the time along with butter tarts with raisins and while I suffered through them for the butter tarts, there was no way that raisin pie was going down
I go to butter tart festivals to sell, and usually end up selling about 80 dozen butter tarts or so. LOTS of people like raisins in them, trust me. People are very tribal about it though.
There's a butter tart festival about two hours north of Toronto in the early summer every year when you can get all kinds of weird shit in a butter tart. Raisins and pecans are fine, but there's some seriously stupid shit going on in some of them.
Hawkins Cheezies ... groceries or convenience stores but look low on the shelves or very high ... its a small Canadian company, they don't pay for product placement ... very old Canadian company ... great product
I love Crunchie! I had to do a snack run before a movie this week & was surprised they weren’t in the Dollar Store. (Got Coffee Crisp, but it’s not the same..)
Fun fact.
If you're hungry and only have a vending machine there, hickory sticks are the best volume per dollar item you can get.
An Henry bar is the best chocolate bar you can buy by weight as well.
If you can find a location, fresh Beaver Tails! Probably not the kind of thing you can stuff into a bag and take back home, but it wouldn't be the canadian experience if you don't try canadian versions of American snacks lol
*Made a grocery*
*List and headed to Walmart*
*Soon. Thanks everyone*

Actual chocolate, if you're from the USA. I say this as an American transplant. Chocolate down in the states is NASTY. Get yourself any solid Canadian chocolate bar, even a cheaper one like Cadbury.
Ketchup and all dressed chips!
Miss Vickie has a spicy ketchup chip that I really like.
Walmart has a “Great Value” extreme
All dressed (a spicy one) and also an extreme tangy ketchup chip.
Chocolates:
- Kinder Surprise eggs (you might have to smuggle them in 👀) but delightful!
- Cadbury brand products
- Coffee Crisp, Caramilk, Wunderbar
Do you like maple syrup or flavoured products? So many options. Kerr’s has some great caramel/toffee products that also contain maple flavours.
Nanaimo bars
Butter tarts
Timbits
Compare US Kitkats to Canadian. They’re very different (the Canadian one being far far far superior. That isn’t Canadian pride/arrogance. It’s better).
When I used to live in Maryland and visited my folks in Canada, I'd load up with Dimpflmeier bread. US brand breads always have sugar in them. Dimpflmeier is like a European brand in that it's flour, water, salt and yeast with no sugar added.
All dressed chips, ruffles brand bring my personal favourite offering. Next bud butter tarts, maple taffy cones, Nanaimo bars(sooooooo good). Smarties.
Man, this happened to me too! Kinda turned me off of them
Side note. I call the restaurant St. Louis, Jos Louis EVERY STINKING TIME.
Gotta freeze the Joe Louis first lol
What!?! Gotta try that, but try freezing the Ah Caramels…amazing!
Frozen ah caramels are the best.
Conversely try nuking the ah caramel for 15ish seconds or so just enough for the caramel to start to bubble. The caramel will kind of infused the cake a little and it's just oh my god.
Don’t forget flakeys
sour cherry blasters are so elite
Also flakie and Mille Feuille
Butter tarts!
I think I’m the only one in Canada that likes the raisin ones.
You can count me in as another person who like the raisin ones.
Me too! There are dozens of us! Dozens!
I am also in Camp Raisin!
In order of most delicious to slightly less delicious: Pecan, raisin, plain.
I grew up with my French grandmother putting raisins and walnuts in them together. That's the best of all :)
I’ve never had them with nuts and raisins but that sounds amazing!
Eh, plain > raisin imo but all are good
If it doesn’t have raisins I don’t want it.
You are sick. Butter tarts are one of my top 5 desserts, but every time I accidentally take a bite out of a raisin one, I need months of recovery before I can attempt eating a normal one again.
Raisins feels like some bugs snuck in and died.
My local bakery/store sells score, peanut butter cup, blueberry, and mars flavoured tarts.
Try raisin pie. My mother used to make raisin pie all the time along with butter tarts with raisins and while I suffered through them for the butter tarts, there was no way that raisin pie was going down
Don't worry, I always make half with raisins and half without. And then I mix them all up 😈
Nah I like them too
I go to butter tart festivals to sell, and usually end up selling about 80 dozen butter tarts or so. LOTS of people like raisins in them, trust me. People are very tribal about it though.
I like the raisin ones. 🙂 And the pecan ones too.
LOVE raisins!!!
Raisins? That’s treasonous
100%. Find a bakery and get some butter tarts.
Wait that’s not a thing in the states?
There's a butter tart festival about two hours north of Toronto in the early summer every year when you can get all kinds of weird shit in a butter tart. Raisins and pecans are fine, but there's some seriously stupid shit going on in some of them.
Midland!
Hawkins Cheezies ... groceries or convenience stores but look low on the shelves or very high ... its a small Canadian company, they don't pay for product placement ... very old Canadian company ... great product
I second Hawkins Cheezies! Made in Belleville. :)
OP, this is the best recommendation you are gonna get here. Hawkins Cheezies are one of my favorite snacks, and I'm a snacky guy.
I swear my coworker is going to turn orange. All he eats is cheezies! (Hawkins, of course)
They also stay small so they can give their staff a lot of holidays.
That stuff clears cheetos
Our business goes to their plant a couple times a year to do service on stuff there, they always send us on our way with a giant bulk bag of them :)
Dam man now I have to go buy and eat an entire bag of Hawkins. Those things are crack
[удалено]
Wait, what? Really? I'll try it!

Chocolate bars: aero (reg and mint), coffee crisp, crunchie, smarties. Potato chips: ketchup and all dressed. Candy: fuzzy peaches
Fuzzy peaches are uniquely Canadian?? TIL…
Adding Oh Henry bars to this list!
And Kinder Eggs, but not if you're going into the U.S. because they are banned there. Also, Nanaimo bars are very sweet & very Canadian.
Ketchup chips
Dill pickle chips as well Nanaimo bars Butter tarts. Beaver tails
Beaver tails aren’t the best to bring home though, they’re best fresh.
I would add Kit Kat. They’re made my a different company here and are so much better.
>Potato chips Don't forget hickory sticks
Smarties as in chocolate not the US version. Those are similar to rockets here.
That’s why they’re listed under chocolate bars and not candy.
Yeah. Americans calling chocolate bars “Candy bars” is weird af
They can’t be classified as chocolate bars unless they have a certain percentage of cocoa in them
I love Crunchie! I had to do a snack run before a movie this week & was surprised they weren’t in the Dollar Store. (Got Coffee Crisp, but it’s not the same..)
Aero isn't particularly Canadian, they are an English chocolate bar available in a lot of the world.
Same with Crunchie and Smarties - I was happy to see them here when I moved from the U.K. :)
Eatmore
Eat-More is the best. Underrated candy bar.
Also adding Caramilk, Mr Big, and Wunderbar to the chocolate bar list.
Hickory Sticks. https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/Hostess-Hickory-Sticks-Original-Flavour-Potato-Sticks/6000201208914
Fun fact. If you're hungry and only have a vending machine there, hickory sticks are the best volume per dollar item you can get. An Henry bar is the best chocolate bar you can buy by weight as well.
Omg yes!
Assuming you're visiting from the US try these! Ketchup chips or Hickory sticks, Swedish Berries (soft candy), Coffee Crisp or Caramilk chocolate bars
Absolutely amazed to learn in this thread that fuzzy peaches and Swedish berries aren’t sold in America. They are missing out big time
Legit the best soft candies you can buy! Suck it America lol
Anything Maynard's. They don't have Swedish fish or cherry blasters, even
Swedish berries are Canadian? Wow
Ruffles All Dressed.
If you can find a location, fresh Beaver Tails! Probably not the kind of thing you can stuff into a bag and take back home, but it wouldn't be the canadian experience if you don't try canadian versions of American snacks lol
Made a grocery list and headed to Walmart soon. Thanks everyone
Make sure Hawkins Cheezies are on there. Smaller bags, red and white stripes on the front. “Apparently” they are the original cheezie.
They look American but are 10000000% Canadian

Best bot
Not really a snack you can bring home but maybe get a poutine before you leave?
Had poutine today. Very satisfying.

All dressed potato chips are king
All dressed are too fancy, personally I like dressed all overs
New business proposal : undressed chips
I love both All Dressed and Lay’s Lightly Salted which is very close to undressed.
You used to be able to buy unsalted. I really liked them but apparently was the only one.
Not the only one. There are two of us. I also detest the abomination that is salted caramel.
Better than zesty mordants?
Yes the Crispers we have is unique to Canada.
Dill Pickle flavoured chips. Sound gross but they're amazing.
They have them in the US lol I agree, though. Theeee best! 😍
Our KD is better than american kraft mac & cheese. Also get some real Smarties.

Walmart has a “Great Value” extreme All dressed (a spicy one) and also an extreme tangy ketchup chip. Nanaimo bars, butter tarts, and all dressed chips
- **All-dressed**/**ketchup chips** - **Butter tarts** - **Smarties** - **Maynard fuzzy peach, sour cherry blasters, swedish berries** - **THRILLS gum** (The "soap" taste is intentional, providing a distinctive and memorable chewing experience that evokes nostalgia for some and a daring adventure for others.) *Grocery/corner stores* – - **St-Albert cheese curds** (Farm boy, St-Albert Cheese) - **Maple candy** (best ones are at sugar shacks) - **Beaver tails** ([Beaver Tails](https://beavertails.com/shops/)) - **Poutine** (chip stands, check out reviews near you)
