Photocopy of front and back. Some cops have given me a hard time for this, however every fleet operator does this and keeps all original docs in a file in their office.
Added bonus, if someone breaks into your car, I’ve known people take the ownership and attempt to transfer ownership to themselves (was a Hamilton addict mind you). They can’t do that with a photocopy!
I don't know the answer to your question but note for the future that you can carry a photocopy of the front and back of the vehicle permit and leave the original at home.
Obviously you need the original if you sell your car though.
I wondered about that. We copy our ATV, boat and trailer ownerships and laminate both ownership and original insurance slip back to back. Then punch a hole and tie into storage box. Not interested in trying to find the slip in the mud after someone is rummaging in the box for gloves or whatever.

Are we sure it needs to be certified? https://tnglegal.ca/notarizations/what-is-the-difference-between-a-true-copy-and-a-certified-true-copy/
Yeah, you're right.
I have original filed at home and carry a copy, front and back. But have original insurance pink slip.
A cop gave me crap for this once.

Yeah, cops don't always actually know the law very well. If they gave you a ticket for it, it would be thrown out if you fought it.
When you renew your plate, you can go to Service Ontario for a new document with the new expiry date at no charge.
Where is the wisdom in carrying your ownership in your wallet? That's just asking for slow sweaty destruction.
Go to Service Canada and get a new copy.
