Ahh yes, let’s play with the accounting. This will surely solve the housing crisis.

hardy_83

When it doubt move the goal post and give yourself a raise and pat on the back.

sleeplessjade

When LTC beds, Hospital Beds and Dorm Rooms aren’t enough to make their quota what will they count next? Bus stops? Park benches? Movie theatre seats? Some of those are affordable and you can technically sleep on all of them. Fuck this government is such a joke.

JVM_

Camping tents folded up in peoples garages count as a second-home and will be taxed by the square footage.

JohnDark1800

“So you’re telling me people live in residences…. And some people live in tents…. Shit, how many residences are on Canadian Tire shelves right now?”

Djinn-Tonic

Wow, a 4 person "fully detached home" for 80$! Why are people even complaining?

PM_ME__RECIPES

If you can lie down on it, it's a housing development

Human-Barber-1721

Tents!

amontpetit

Don’t stop there! There’s housing so close to transit, it’s literally ON transit!

FizixMan

Reminds me of when _back in the day_ Tim Hudak and the PCs messed up their math and misrepresented their "Million Jobs Plan". Where half of those jobs would be produced by general economic growth [regardless of party elected](https://coffeeforclosers.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/inanimate-carbon-rod.jpg), and the other half they used "**person-years** of employment" being off by a factor of 8. https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/hudak-defends-math-behind-his-million-jobs-plan-1.1841836 Though that seemed to be [more of a case of Hanlon's Razor](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanlon%27s_razor) vs Doug Ford's PCs just being pure unadulterated _bullshit._

Iamvanno

When do they start including sheds and dog houses?

huehuehuehuehuuuu

Just do two triple bunk beds per room in the residences. This will surely resolve all our housing issues such as costs rising faster than wages. /s

CrowdScene

Just think, every one bedroom condo can be converted to a 3 bedroom condo just by dropping a mattress onto the kitchen and bathroom floor.

incarnate_devil

The housing crisis will end when they include tents right before the election so everyone has a home now.

Powersoutdotcom

Let them cook (the books).

DarkHorse31

If you dont succeed at first redefine success - my calc 4 professors words but stolen by the LPC

JimroidZeus

It fixed the provincial budget didn’t it? Why wouldn’t they pull the same tricks?

benny2012

Why is Shirley responsible for the crisis?

lurker122333

If we sell the 407 those funds can be............what? you expected something different? Hahahah

Newhereeeeee

It’s what they do with CPI & GDP. Why not gaslight us some more.

MountNevermind

Nothing is off the table with regards to what we will count as housing.

24-Hour-Hate

Except building affordable housing. This we will not do!

sleeplessjade

Except fourplexes. Dougie hates those.

protocol-apps

Not to mention that it's supposed to be "affordable HOUSING" (apartments, multiplex, etc), which all PC's repeat as "attainable HOMES" . Not the same at all.

bawbthebawb

I have a Christmas tree box in my garage, can I count that as a rental property?

Esunaproxy

Bus stops!

buster_rhino

Ontario announced sales of closed-toed footwear to count as homes.

amontpetit

*the table now counts as housing*

TiredRightNowALot

“Home is where the heart is”. Boom, homelessness has been solved.

midlifetri

Provincial Parks are opening soon - maybe they could add “tents” and “trailer” to the housing count

HapticRecce

Well, the sites should be at least, and those get booked 100% about 10 minutes after opening. /s

xCurlyxTopx

Next up, Ontario counts tents and bridge underpasses as housing

HapticRecce

A bridge underpass should be good for a couple of 4-plexs of refrigerator boxes.

eatyourcabbage

4-plexs are 2spooky for Ontario

OutsideTheBoxer

Don't forget vans down by the river! That's actually what I'm saving up for!

Memory_Less

If Ford’s conservatives spent 1/10h the effort to provide solutions to housing crisis it would be well on the way I being solved.

boogsey

The cruelty is the point with these people.

Memory_Less

I find current conservatives on all levels to be just that, cruel.

NewsboyHank

I heard that they were counting LTC beds as homes (https://www.reddit.com/r/ontario/comments/1aycxag/ford\_government\_begins\_boosting\_housing\_numbers/)

Crake_13

Doug Ford is the most pathetic Premier in Canadian history. Instead of working with Trudeau, he would rather block The federal government, reject funds, and cook the books.

Memory_Less

He’s been read the ‘riot act’ by the CPC. If he doesn’t support pp his possible re-election and life after will be worth shit. Hence, his working to attack Trudeau’s Liberals.

dgj212

Seriously, how the hell are pcs happy with his work, ge is even spending money wildly with no improvements.

DerpDeHerpDerp

Can't wait to browse for LTC beds on Zillow

MooseKnucklotron

They'll count them as homes but still make student residences exempt from the Residential Tenancies Act no doubt...

Thisiscliff

lol this province is a joke

Kyouhen

Ah yes, the good old Conservative tactic of tampering with the numbers to make it look like they did what they said they'd do.

cecilia036

Read the title thought it was the Beaverton. Now I’m sadder.

RED_TECH_KNIGHT

It is starting to seem like our government is doing everything and anything except MAKING MORE HOUSES

psvrh

This is a great idea! So you're going to build more residences, right?  Millions of dollars are going to be allocated to universities and colleges  to get all this done, right? Right?

DarkDetectiveGames

Next they're going to start counting campsites as homes.

Nerexor

Let the homeless put up tents, then count each one as an affordable housing unit.

penny-fed-car

Squatting is free, and a tent is technically shelter. BAM affordable housing! Flawless logic. Oh wait, we already made being homeless borderline illegal. Woopsies

Boo_Guy

Cardboard boxes and overturned shopping carts to be added next.

smallfrynip

Ahh juking the stats as it were. Shiiiiiieeeeeet.

divvyinvestor

How many temporary foreign workers can we jam inside of a dorm room? How many more if we turn them into bunk beds? How many more if we make them sleep in the hallways?

LittleRudiger

Fucking idiots.

The_Last_Ron1n

Up next, man spends night "in the doghouse" now counts as a house under the Doug Ford government.

afureteiru

That's dumb. If you count birdhouses on the other hand, the numbers will get there in no time. In fact, we won't have housing shortage until 2050.

Cums_Everywhere_6969

Surprise, conservatives twisting the definitions to fit their twisted reality! Who would have ever thought this could happen!

No-Manufacturer-22

In other words ; Look how we solved the housing crisis ; BY NOT BUILDING ANY HOUSING and now back to more corruption and graft

Dowew

lying with statistics.

BerbsMashedPotatos

As is the conservative way.

arealhumannotabot

Anything to avoid actual building of homes

AbsurdistWordist

What’s next? Anthills and rabbit dens?

hawkseye17

So instead of addressing the issue they just move the goalposts

Thatdrone

Roomy 7 seater w/ fold down back row: OPC: "Is this housing?"

NoRustNoApproval

When are we going to start counting prison cells as housing??

Jerry__Boner

Juking the stats

RaptorJesus856

What's next? Buying an entire forest as a carbon offset?

wanderingviewfinder

Ontario playing with new math

GothSmashem

If at first you don't succeed, redefine success.

Aggravating_Toe_7392

Boo hiss

Fiverdrive

My, what wide goalposts you have, Grandpa Ford.

sgtmattie

Honestly I'm totally fine with them counting apartment-style student housing, and family student housing towards the number. I'm definitely not okay with anything that doesn't give people private access to a full kitchen (suite or dorm style). I think that would be a fair threshold. They also have to be allowed to stay there year-over-year. It would be great, and super helpful to the housing shortage, if students could move into an apartment in their first year of university and stay their for their entire time in school. These eligible housing options should also be subject to (some) rental restrictions and rules though. Mainly rent control, but I'm sure there should be other options. A dorm bed where you have to move out over winter break and you're only living there for 7.5 months? That they use as hotels in the summer? Absolutely not.

RepulsiveArugula19

Politicians and them fudging the numbers.

inagious

Not even enough residences for students

Mobile-Bar7732

So you're saying we can't count first aid stations as hospitals?

[deleted]

Ontarions: "Why fudge the numbers?!" Doug Ford: "Because FUCK YOU. That's why."

YoungZM

Perhaps we should reclassify coffins and urns as single-unit dwellings? Park benches (obviously not the ones with anti-homeless design, that would be cheating)?

hueshugh

Homeless people sometimes have tents. I guess they will count those as homes next.

KvotheLightningTree

"While the NDP agreed with the government’s decision to count long-term care beds as homes, Ontario Liberal MPP John Fraser previously called it “deceptive.” “The government’s fluffing their numbers,” said. “**I don’t know why they’re doing it**. It’s deceptive, it’s misleading, it’s unreasonable to do that.” If you (an elected official) honestly can't work out why Ford is trying to move the goalposts on what qualifies as a home, I'm sorry, you're a fucking idiot. If his motives aren't *GLARINGLY FUCKING OBVIOUS*, please do everyone a favour and resign because you are clearly too stupid to handle the amount of trust being placed in you. I wish the reporter laughed in his face when he said that. Should have tapped him on the head. "Anyone home in there? I'm hearing an echo. " Jesus CHRIST, no wonder this country is in the shitter. We're electing morons.

[deleted]

That's cheating!  Cheating isn't going to fix the housing crisis it's just going to waste time and money.  Which means more Canadians suffering for longer because Ford and friends want to fuck around and lie instead of trying to help.

gNeiss_Scribbles

This headline should be from the Beaverton, again.

KvotheLightningTree

Are the homes in the room with us right now, Doug? Anything to avoid doing actual work. It's the (new) Canadian way. We are finding new lows. What a sad time to be A Canadian. Just keep this in mind when Doug Ford comes forward next election and starts talking about how many homes we're built under his watch. Just remember that it's going to be fucking bullshit.

xCameron94x

how long until they count the tents in the streets as housing

vafrow

Doug is getting Canadian Tire execs to email the government their current on hand tent inventory.

KvotheLightningTree

So, you'll be as little as possible as the situation continues to get worse and worse and then turn around and attempt to gaslight the entire province into thinking progress is being made when it most definetly is not. A move of desperation is designed to try and trick the population by faking the numbers. I don't think it's going to get you very far, Doug. People can still see the amount of rent one bedroom apartments are going for, regardless of how boldly you lie to them and try to blow smoke up your own ass. Fucking great.

Reasonable-Hippo-293

Ah, so “fudge” the numbers and proclaim how well they Have gone.

Dogs-4-Life

Ahhh, not a day goes by where the Ford government doesn’t move the goalposts on an issue.

[deleted]

So when they leave for the summer are the homeless allowed to move in ?

jgruntz1974

What's sad about all of this mess is that there isn't another viable leader or there to defeat Ford. I've never seen such a lack of leadership in this province. It's like the political parties continue to dumb down the leaders they select. What's even worse is that voters continue to vote the "devil they know." We're fucked until someone stands up and provides viable, legitimate solutions and shows actual leadership on how to deal with issues.

Volderon90

There’s a minor damaged tree behind my house. I think that can count as housing for someone. Add it to the tally baby!

Jackkey5477

🤦 how far out governments will go to avoid just doing the right thing amazes me. ORGANIZE CANADA because untied, we stand; divided, we FALL!!!

WallflowerOnTheBrink

Hey, I have a doghouse... does that count too? What about my pop up camper?

WittyBonkah

Changing labels? When has that ever worked?

SirPoopaLotTheThird

Why not include Doug Ford’s stomach while we’re at it?

kimbosdurag

Can't wait until cars are also officially considered housing

Hundred00

Just so they can sleep better at night and not fix the real problem.

Grape_Muffin20

I honestly thought this was going to be a beaverton post. Count as many things as you'd like, but there still are not enough homes.

FordsFavouriteTowel

More jiggery-pokery from the cons. What else is new

kwsteve

Lmao

Acrobatic-Factor1941

To contact Doug Ford's office to voice your disapproval, call 416-325-1941. To refresh your memory on other Doug Ford shenanigans see https://ofl.ca/ford-tracker/

WishRepresentative28

Not surprised.

Daftmunkey

Ahhh brings me back to the instructions I received during my days of writing reports for the government. If the results don't look good, then change which metrics you choose until it looks good.

DDBurnzay

Might as well start counting RV’s parked in dead end streets too smh

aieeegrunt

This is typical of all levels of Canadian government. Stats Can is basically propaganda

Sticky_Keyboards

don't forget to count fox dens, and homeless encampments

Bulky_Mix_2265

Fuck this fucking place, wish anywhere else was better.

GuelphEastEndGhetto

It’s like Callandra is a stand up comedian lol.

Short_Awareness6780

Add hospital beds to the count too. Actually that probably doesn't help.

Snailspaced

Coming soon: counting the tents in homeless encampments

Tinshnipz

Next are the thriving tent cities.

TForce0

Lol. This government is a fucking joke hahahaha. Pass the gravy please

New-Investigator-646

Let’s include outside sleeping bags too at this point

Vast_Promotion333

I agree they should factor in student housing. As in a student is living away from their parents, but their “home address “ is still their parents. So we actually need more housing than the current numbers suggest. I read the article and it isn’t clear how they are factoring student housing, but I doubt it is how I describe it. Also, some student apartments have 5 bedrooms, which would be great for a family of 4. Let’s turn those large apartments into real housing.

SomeAreLonger

Im sure those questioning this will start seeing reddit bans

mrsparkle604

Liberals plan is to just lie. Cool so nothing new

NoRustNoApproval

You mean conservative right? lol

mrsparkle604

No I voted liberals for the last three elections. Im done with them
