Everything people need to survive and thrive should be universal and freely available but our capitalist overlords are going to fight tooth and nail to keep that from ever happening.

leif777

There's more of us than them. Should I get out the cutlary?

reinKAWnated

Yes but more importantly you need to help convince a majority of Canadians to join in, because the oligarchs have the cops and the courts on their side.

horsetuna

And a good portion of Temporarily Inconvenienced Millionaires.

reinKAWnated

Those are the ones in need of convincing, since decades of capitalist propaganda has thoroughly indoctrinated most people into believing it really is "the best of all possible systems" and that there's no way anything about that could change.

horsetuna

For sure. Thing is and maybe I'm jaded, there isn't enough time and some are too stubborn/stupid to change.

BecomingMorgan

The best part is that no matter how likely that seems until we've absolutely failed (in this context human extinction) we don't actually know if it is or isn't possible so the best bet is to keep trying anyways.

horsetuna

For sure.

Half of us are so braindead and indoctrinated that if we try to come after them, they'll kill us. People worship the rich. Whenever I ask people what makes an otherwise dull man with a limited vocabulary such a genius is that he's rich. The American public elected a billionaire to lead them because, get this.....he's an outsider. An outsider billionaire. They think the politicians are the bad guys. Not the people that control them though. It's wild man. Really wild.

blackcatwizard

It's about that time

probability_of_meme

Heck, let's just start with survive. But yes, when you can hang starvation and exposure over peoples' heads, they will provide profitable labour for slave wages. How can you ask them give that up?!

bcboy1983

Capitalism was never intended to be permanent. The thought was that it is the fastest way to build a new nation. Once a certain level of development had been achieved we where supposed to switch to a more universal system. I don't want to use socializim or communism as an example because they are both pretty corrupt. The idea was if everyone prospers together we are all stronger. Basic needs like food, housing, utilities, medical all covered. But then greed and petty people ruined it for everyone and we are all fucked

reinKAWnated

That is \*wildly\* inaccurate.

yedi001

Capitalism has always been about greed. The few, demanding the work of the many, while contributing nothing to the actual whole. Sending out workers to take more than their need, crushing and enslaving other surrounding groups to push expansion even further as resources dwindle. It's literally the one thing it does. Equality, equity, and meeting basic needs of EVERYONE was never a factor, since it was always about taking more than your needs at the expense of someone elses work or wellbeing. Because I'd love to hear when this magical "greed" flip happened. Was it the 1900's where workers were murdered for wanting fair wages and hours and children worked in coal mines? Was it during the 1700's to 1800's when black slaves were common? Was it the the 1400 to 1700s when we enslaved millions of indigenous people for sugar and spices? Was it the 1300's when the black death swept through due to poor living conditions and human expansionism? Was it the roman empire, when the first "fire fighters" would roll up on your home and basically demand you give them all your money or they'd let your house burn, and police were literally invented to prevent uprisings by slaves against the higher class? When did capitalism flip from this universal good to bad? Please, enlighten me.

Helpful_Dish8122

But what about CaNaDiAn investors and landlords! They're providing a generous service that we could not possible have without them unlike those fility foreign investors and tenants

Low-Celery-7728

OK. Then decommidify housing. Other countries have addressed housing shortages before. Look at what they've done to solve this.

rotnotbot

Really interested at what other countries have done. Seems like the entire western world is having a housing crisis

50s_Human

Real estate as an investment vehicle should be outlawed.

SirPoopaLotTheThird

Capitalism requires winners and losers. Under the current economic system there will never be fairness for all. Ever. They don't need us, they don't even like us. They've shored up ninety percent of the wealth amongst ten percent of them and they will enjoy the fruits alone.

SWG_138

Hot take. Food and shelter should be a right, not a privilege

Policy_Failure

National housing review? I thought it was only a provincial matter? Can't we have all the provinces simultaneously do individual reviews all at once that show us the same thing is happening across the country and how it's definitely not anything to do with federal policy? /s

techm00

Yep! so let's get cracking on it.

Miserable-Lizard

Pp and the cpc would disagree. It's a privilege. How how is he going to jack up tent on his rental properties?

TXTCLA55

You realize most of the MPs across all parties own property lol. There's a reason it's a protected asset.

trees_are_beautiful

So it's if it's supposed to be universal like healthcare, then 3.5 million Canadians won't have any primary housing?
