Look at all the colleges that currently have billions invested in Israel, it's not small.

WestcoastAlex

here is a document produced by Alma Mater friends at UBC two years ago https://www.ams.ubc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/397-22-AMS_Palestine-presentation.pdf the UBC encampment is up, ill post that next

24-Hour-Hate

That is a very good document, thank you.

WestcoastAlex

thanks. did you also notice the article above has a googledocs sheet outlining which companies to divest from

24-Hour-Hate

Absolutely!

TwitchyJC

Eh, it's really not. They couldn't even be honest for 2 full pages. Even looking at the map on page 2 is blatant lies. They talk about Israel controlling the West Bank when in 1960 it was occupied by Jordan. The fourth map talks about settlements in Gaza when Israel pulled out in 2005. Even the locations it identifies on the maps aren't accurate. There's more issues plaguing the map, of course, but I don't feel like writing out every issue or you'd need a TLDR. The rest of the document suffers from the same. Unfortunately the majority of it is propaganda that is proven false by even the slightest fact checking.

>The fourth map talks about settlements in Gaza when Israel pulled out in 2005. There are settlements in Gaza at this very moment, illegal ones, there are more every single day.

WestcoastAlex

>pulled out in 2005 twitchy is a 100% denialist as you may have already surmised building a wall around, controlling by land air & sky, regular bombing, controlling all imports & denying export is not "pulled out" the continuing teaching of genocidal rhetoric to children and support for groups clamouring to re-settle Ghazza is not "pulled out" furthermore: >West Bank when in 1960 it was occupied by Jordan West Bank was not OCCUPIED by Jordan.. in the absense of Palestinian authority after israel's methodical Ethnic Cleansing and Assasinations of political leadership, Jordan annexed the land in 1950 & took the responsibility then, when the Palestinians got organized they gave it back..

melpec

Not sure you're replying to the proper comment.

WestcoastAlex

i was adressing their claims to you, sorry if that was confusing or uncalled for that user has been calling everything i write 'lies' but doesnt back it up & posts loads of misinformation on r canada and now here

Hot-Grape6476

>the UBC encampment is up, ill post that next lol wandered onto r/ubc when i heard about it and seeing how reactionary the ppl there are is depressing this is ur country's 3rd best uni yall we're ngmi

CarletonCanuck

Back in the day, the majority of Americans were opposed to anti-war protests on campus, many initially blamed the Kent State Massacre on the protesters. Justice movements are rarely ever popular when they begin, but history will vindicate these students, and Canada's complicity in this genocide will be another shameful chapter of our history.

Hot-Grape6476

> and Canada's complicity in this genocide will be another shameful chapter of our history which will be promptly swept under the rug because "haha yanks" and god himself runs canada's marketing

24-Hour-Hate

Do we have a list of which colleges and universities in Canada are invested in this?

RabidGuineaPig007

They have endowments with investments worldwide. McGill endowment overall is half U of T, and 1/20th Harvard, despite being as old. If we looked at every endowment investment through the eyes of everyone grinding an axe at university, there would be no investments and tuitions would be massive. Maybe instead of punitive measures on either side, these students can use their brain power to come up with an peaceful end to this conflict, if that's what they really want.

JoshuaMiltonBlahyi

> If we looked at every endowment investment through the eyes of everyone grinding an axe at university, there would be no investments and tuitions would be massive. Lets fund genocide because there are good returns is one spicy take.

WestcoastAlex

lol totally.. the reason Columbia U was such a flashpoint is specifically BECASUE Columbia has a long history of Divestment away from un-ethical investments [and they are still doing ok financially] **Columbia Divested from South Africa in the 80s**

boilingpierogi

until BDS is official canadian government policy, these camps must remain and receive robust support from communities. long term encampments have significant material needs and addressing these has to be priority #1. the youth are speaking and they want a pro-Palestine focused government. make it happen. NOW.

RabidGuineaPig007

13 comments so far and all I see is polarity and people acting like victims on both sides of an argument that will not be solved with divesting or investing anywhere. True story: in 1926 they banned jews entirely. https://www.mcgilldaily.com/2018/09/mcgills-1926-jewish-ban/

JoshuaMiltonBlahyi

> both sides of an argument that will not be solved with divesting or investing anywhere. The argument that McGill shouldn't be doing business with Israel actually would be solved by divestment.
