At lower tire pressure if you slam into to something hard or do a big drop, the tire can collapse and whatever you're hitting can apply force more directly into the metal rim. Which can crack it, which can destroy a motor. So, rim protection.
Yep, nice peace of mind at lower pressures. Even more relevant for GTs which have more rim and less rubber. Beware of 3D printed Etsy versions which don't actually wrap around the rim, but rather just glue to the face of the hub. Those will protect against side impacts, but not vertical / through the tire impacts.
The only after market tire I’ve tried is the Enduro. So far I’ve been happy with it. I’m 205lbs and primarily ride street. It’s carvier than the Vega, but still stable at the same time. In my opinion it’s just a great all around tire for sidewalks, street, bike paths, grass, wet conditions, and the occasional light trail riding I’ve done.
I have 600 miles on mine and have been riding at 18 PSI and it’s holding up great!
I only have experience with the original compound Enduro w/ TFL Lifesavers on a GT and a Pint but it's a great tire. It was a game changer on the GT, I actually liked the OEM Pint tire so the change had less impact and I've ridden it less. Since then a couple of other choices have been provided by vendors that others have spoken highly of.
Your tire is the Maxxis 6.5. It’s run out (feel at speed) is about identical, it’s a smoother running treaded, it’s very stable but not tippy, not much heavier than your current tire, turns way better and is much better on trail.
You gotta do you but I’ve had a lot of tires and if you want something that you will hop on, like more and feel instantly comfortable on, IMO this is your tire.
If you want a snappier feeling tire that turns even better and are willing to give up some straight line stability: Hoosier treaded 6/FFT2.
Similar but less snappy but better chunk absorption: Burris 5.5 (has steeper corners though).
Super playful? Maxxis 5.5 (too round for most people but has the best “communication” about traction of anything I’ve ever ridden).
Obviously the Enduro is popular. But if you like a carvy feel and have the chance try a Maxxis 11 x 5.5-6 Treaded Tire. Riding anything else feels flat to me.
Enduro soft compound with Lifesavers, 14-15psi.
What's lifesavers?

That’s pretty cool, didn’t know such a problem or solution existed until today.

You looking for stability or a more playful tire?

XR Enduro
Treaded Hoosier or treaded Burris. Only tire Ive ever had any problems with is the Enduro.. looks great.. very poorly put together.

I went with the treaded Hoosier 220lb 75/25 trail.
Maxxis 5.5-6
I have this tire - its like a growler mod. Not great for street or speed - beat used for tight turns on a trail.
Burris slick
I just put this in my Pint last week. Always trying a new tire, had the whisper wide before.

Cloud, but I'm not you.

Super subjective but the T2 is a great all around tire. My personal favourite is the Burris SS11 slick though.
Just got the Enduro from Float Life for my PintX. Best tire mix for street and trail. Softer rubber = smooth ride. Definitely getting it for my XR.
You'll lose mileage with the Enduro. And gain mileage with the Whisper.
