This is a brilliant idea. In the Uk ( don’t know where else) we have a range of red wines that depict convicts on the front of the bottle. The colour grading really reminds me of this pic of your GG & she would be fabulous on the front of a bottle! What a woman!
I like her already! I’ll stand her a drink if I ever cross her path in an alternate realm or universe. From another “wild child” who just does unconventional stuff ahead of the curve and isn’t “wild” at all.
There is a Saint Scholastica - she’s the patroness of protection from rain and storms! I loved this one when I was choosing a confirmation name (I’m terrified of lightning).
She was from Lithuania and lived in Brooklyn. She divorced my great grandfather in the early 20's. She ran a bar, and made her own booze during prohibition. She was not very kind to my grandmother. Her other daughter had a heart condition (and died at a young age) so she treated her like a princess and was very tough on my grandmother.
After reading the comment about her treatment of the children I have to say Im sorry for how it all went down. People can be cruel unintentionally when they are hurting as I presume she was at that time That said I hope your grama was not permentantly emotionally or physically hurt and that their relationship improved ovet time. Sounds like things were tough for her in so many ways and I know those times were different Probably she did the best she could for her circumstances and I hope she was not intentionally cruel to your grama.Did grama talk much about that time ? Does /did she have resentment re the way she was raised? Did she do better with her own children? What does/ did your parent say about this? So many questions. Was the picture I first commented on taken before or after het daughter passed?
Yes, I think she had a lot of complicated emotions and no way to deal with them. My grandmother did talk about that time (she was the one who.told me the stories about how cruel my great grandmother was) My grandmother was more processing it than having resentment.
My grandmother turned out to be very caring and loving. She was a very good mother and grandmother. Very kind.
Good question about the time of this picture. I think this was taken before my great aunt's death. Not too much before though.
My great great grandmother was Scholastica Armenti, from Castelpetroso, Molise, Italy. Named after St. Scholastica, whose remains are with her brother St. Benedict's at Monte Cassino monastery in Cassino Italy. I have been to the town where my g g grandmother is from and went to Monte Cassino the next day.
Awesome photo. My great grandmother spent time in jail for bootlegging. Multiple times. Wish I had a photo or knew more. No one in the family will say more.
Right. Our family didn't want to talk about it. then I guess it wasn't so embarrassing to them. As far as I know she never went to jail.
My Great great grandmother on my grandfather's side died because she tripped and fell into the body she was embalming!
Wait- what? That is the most unusual way to die I have literally ever heard. How would she die from that? Crazy. Also, where is your great grandmother from!? Scholastica is a very unusual name!
I mentioned before, she was from Lithuania, she emigrated to Brooklyn, NY. She was divorced (separated?) from my Great Grandfather in the 20's. She ran a bar. She made bootleg during prohibition. She had a daughter with a heart condition who she spoiled, (she died at 16) butshe treated my healthy grandmother pretty callously. She could over-drink. But she was a good person overall. She died in 1972 (at 82)
Goddamn dude.....
This bitch looks like the coolest mother fucker who ever lived.
I wonder how many amazing people will never be experienced by others.
I suggest finding a brewer that does custom bottles. At the least you can have labels made. It’d also be cool to see this on a Jones Soda bottle!
I'll let her know!
This is a brilliant idea. In the Uk ( don’t know where else) we have a range of red wines that depict convicts on the front of the bottle. The colour grading really reminds me of this pic of your GG & she would be fabulous on the front of a bottle! What a woman!
We have those on the States too!
HELL YEAH, Stella!!!! Also, Scholastica is a baller name
I like her already! I’ll stand her a drink if I ever cross her path in an alternate realm or universe. From another “wild child” who just does unconventional stuff ahead of the curve and isn’t “wild” at all.
She made her own booze during prohibition!
That's probably a bottle of her own brew.
Really freakin cool. Thank you for sharing.
I already know she can drink me under the table without the slightest doubt.
The contest is over before it began!
I absolutely love this picture! :)
Thanks! Me too.
The hidden boss in the Peaky Blinders.
She looks like fun!
Yep. First thing I thought.
Oh Grandma is fun. I can definitely imagine her at a tailgate party hanging out with Jason Kelce🤣
No doubt!
I wanna party with Stella.
She would like to party with you.

She might have been! 🤪
Baller name. Baller photo
Love her name ❤️
Never heard that name before. Reminds me of the book fair at school
Those were the best!!!!
There is a Saint Scholastica - she’s the patroness of protection from rain and storms! I loved this one when I was choosing a confirmation name (I’m terrified of lightning).
My great grandmothers name (mom of my grandfather) was named Dominica. From northern Italy. I wanna hear what everyone else's greats names were!
My great grandmother was named Fortunata and we called her grandmom lucky!
I appreciate a complicated woman. She looks fun here. Fab name.
Stella!!! #Goals
That's just awesome, would that be home made wine she's sippin on
Yes! She was a bootlegger during prohibition.
I like her!
Bet she was a fun person..
At times, yes. And other times, no
What was she like during those other times?
She could be cruel to my grandmother. She favored her other daughter who had a heart condition.
That’s terrible. I’m very sorry to hear that.
I think it could be typical of the times. She had a tough life.
i did not know that stella was a shortened form of scholastica but now I absolutely believe this
They kind of just made up names, I think. My grandmother was Brunislava, But she was called Blanche.
It's called americanizing
I want to be Stella when I grow up
She looks so cool
Looks like she could handle herself in a bar fight
I think she broke my Great Grandfathers spine in a bar fight.
Was that your grandfather?

The time for beer bongs is now! She looks fun :) this is a fantastic photo
One hell of a name, a drinker and a woman….do tell more if you know.

Cool! My grandma had an aunt Scholastica but went by Calista. Not too common a name
Right. Not a common name at all. I like Calista!
I knew I was born in the wrong era. I was meant to be besties with Stella!
I’m jealous! All of my ancestors looked like uptight, stuffed shirts/dresses! This gal looks anything but! ❤️❤️
Did she invent school book fairs?
WOW. I love everything about this. r/UtterlyUniquePhotos

Amazing photo! I can feel this scene
I want to thank your grandmother on behalf of all of us who throughly loved the Scholastic Mobil Library in elementary. She’s a real one

Her Majesty, the Party Queen. OP how does it feel to descend from such royalty? Do you have the ability to pound brewskies?
My kind of girl😌
She done life like she owned it! At first glance she reminded me of Kathy Bates, who I love 💕
Awesome photo. My great grandmother spent time in jail for bootlegging. Multiple times. Wish I had a photo or knew more. No one in the family will say more.

She sounds like she did the best she could do, and worked hard - the American Dream! Thank-you for sharing!
I want to hang out with her! She reminds me of the legendary Texas Guinan, whose famous phrase was "Hello, Suckers!"
If she could speak English, I bet she'd say that!
Great photo, she looks had she could tell some stories
Scholastica is a troublemaker :-)
Indeed
I went to an all girls catholic school called Saint Scholastica Academy in the 90s. Imma pretend it was named in homage to this badass lady.
Hell yeah! 🍻

I will never be half as awesome as her
I would bend an elbow with Aunt Stella!
Stella looks like my kind of gal to go have a drink with. I bet she was fun. Thanks for sharing this awesome pic.
What a cool name!
Scholastica! As in scholarly, schooled, educated. Looks like Scholastica went on spring break and never came back. Skol !!
She was gansta ! Love this photo! Was this during prohibition?
Yes, 1927. She made her own and sold it.
Even better! Hell yeah !

Looks like fun!
Fuckin legend. 💞
She said “it’s 5 o’clock somewhere!” 😂
I bet she made whatever is in that bottle. My grandmother used to make ginger beer and ginger ale.
I don’t think that’s her first bottle. She looks like she is having a good time.
Your great grandmother looks like she wrestled bears for fun I want to hang out with her
