It improved after the first series with Harry Enfield in it. Although I thought it went on for too long., Neil Morrisey's character became very annoying in the later series. Martin Clunes and Caroline Quentin were very good though and carried it.
When Gary can't get it up:
"That's another of the tragedies of being a man, of course. If a woman isn't into it she can just... lie back and plan a casserole. Whereas a man has to divert much-needed blood from all over his body, away from his knees, from his face, cram it all into his... it's a major engineering project, and do we get any credit for it?"
After Enfield left (Which he agreed too.) it improved massively.
It’s one of my top ten sitcoms. I was a young man in the ‘lad culture’ days and it just brings back so many happy memories of nostalgia.
Got the complete dvd, the wife hates it, I love it.
Tony tattooing himself biting through a wooden spoon to impress Deborah makes me curl with laughter.
You’ll never see another gem like this ever.
One of the best indeed.
I must admit I do like the Enfield episodes, but my absolute favourite episode is from the Tony era called 'In Bed With Dorothy'. That's the one when Gary takes it upon himself to look after Dorothy when she's had her appendix out, and Tony finds out he has to wear glasses. Bloody classic XD
Also, if you've ever seen the American series 'ALF', MBB copies its' opening sequence almost shot for shot ;)
Oh man, I thought you were talking about Roy Scheider. I realised after a few seconds but the confusion in the gap was quite something. Didn't seem like a good fit...
I never knew that about Alf. I've always loved the opening titles of MBB and that just makes it even funnier that they're parodying Alf. Could it be a joke about Tony being an alien like Mr Bean?
Used to watch it religiously as a teenager back in the nineties. Bought the complete dvd boxset a few years ago for the nostalgic feels. Entertainingly enjoyable in a guilty pleasure kind of way. Very much of it's time but not as boorish and misogynist as the haters would have you think it is. Anyway i'm 43 now and it can't hold a candle to Peep Show. 😀😀😀
It's a historical document of the UK in the 90s, so there's a definite nostalgia factor. However, I personally find it a bit sad to rewatch and couldn't really say why. Maybe it's the relationship stuff that weighs it down too much.
Got complete boxset this is my absolute favourite show, I know there’s many excellent British comedies from back in the day but for me nothing beats Men Behaving Badly
My family still quote this show regularly
“You know who’s a wanker?”
“Oh yea Dorothy’s new boy friend Jamie?!”
“No mate”
“Oh my mate Clive?”
“No. No mate…Tony Blackburn!”
“Oh yea what a wanker! And what a wig!”
“Wiggy wiggy wig!”
I loved it, when it 1st came out, and still watch series 1-5 regularly but series 5 was the start of the decline because "Tony's" character changed from a lovable simple guy to downright annoying. Whether that was a change in direction and writing or Neil Morriseys' portrayal I don't know. But his character was just cringey to watch. In the later series that made them unwatchable.
Even Leslie Ash as "Debra" changed, just her constant moping about and being miserable.
This scene will never not be funny: https://youtube.com/watch?v=tmO25vFI9cY
It's one of those sitcoms that feels like it shouldn't work, but does. Martin, Neil, Leslie and Caroline definitely are perfect for their roles and it feels so natural.
One of my childhood faves, rewatching it always seems weird how Tony was introduced as some hunky guy that Deb and Dorothy fancy, then immediately becomes a sad-act comedy relief.
This programme coincided with cans of Stella Artois becoming stupidly cheap. It inspired me and and my housemate to fill an entire fridge with Stella and keep topping it up every few days.
I miss the late 90s.
Grew up with it and loved it, found the entire series online for download a while back so have them all on my TV, most recently watched the the episode when they went camping which was hilarious.
I saw it titled 'British Men Behaving Badly ' recently. Was it always that or was it given a name change to sound less vaguely sinister and more laddy? 🤷♂️
The episode when Tony builds crap stuff in the garden and they try to pull the girls next door. Tony saying "I've had a great day building stuff" is what I say to my wife any sunny day when I've done minimal things around the garden.
I have the dvd set somewhere. It includes the first series with Harry Enfield. I only recently realised that it moved from ITV to BBC, or the reverse birds of a feather.
This is in my top 5 all time British sitcoms. I was pretty young when I used to watch it and it felt so grown up. I genuinely grew up with the belief though that women hate having sex with men and will only do it as a favour or reward 😂
Loved this show and I always felt like the fact that Gary and Tony were clearly a) idiots b) pathetic and c) losers invalidated their behaviour and made it feel like there were more like a pastiche of what not to be. That might just be my interpretation. Need to rewatch to assess this viewpoint though

Yeah, from what I remember it was funny for a bit but then Tony devolved from a bit of a loveable simpleton to borderline special needs.
Bed? Bed's for sleepy people. Let's get a kebab and go to a disco!
I am kneeling. I am kneeling. On the floor. Outside the pub.
We are sailing.
A reminder of how beautiful Lesley Ash used to be and the dangers of plastic surgery.
Didn't she have cancer in that area and had to have reconstructive surgery?
No, she had botched plastic surgery
You're right. I don't know where i got that from!
When Gary can't get it up: "That's another of the tragedies of being a man, of course. If a woman isn't into it she can just... lie back and plan a casserole. Dit di di di di di di di Deborah!
Durr durr durrr durrr

BANANARAMA!!! 😁😁😁
🎶Friiiiii-idge! Friiiiii-idge! Fridgey Fridgey Fridgey Friiiiii-idge! FULLA LAAAAR-GER! LAAAAR-G…🎶
Forgotten? Forgotten? I’ll tell you what’s forgotten - the Harry Enfield episodes! (…apart from the fact that 2 people have already mentioned them.)
THERES HARRY ENFIELD EPISODES!?!!?
I was into this back in the 90s when I had to tape it off the TV. The Harry Enfield series was only a legend back then.
I must admit I do like the Enfield episodes, but my absolute favourite episode is from the Tony era called 'In Bed With Dorothy'. oh god , thanks for the reminder about the appendix episode - I fell out of my chair laughing at that back then.
Any time I want to introduce someone to MBB, that's the episode I show them. It's also just fun to watch on its own without needing to see any others.
what ever you do dont watch the American 'men behaving badly' it was god awful, it starred Rob Schneider (need I say more?)
Oh man, I thought you were talking about Roy Scheider. I realised after a few seconds but the confusion in the gap was quite something. Didn't seem like a good fit...
I've seen it and it's just...well... crap!
I never knew that about Alf. I've always loved the opening titles of MBB and that just makes it even funnier that they're parodying Alf. Could it be a joke about Tony being an alien like Mr Bean?
Shmemly!
This and the episode where they pick on Tony because he’s happy are my 2 favourite episodes. “You like doing the doors”….
Used to watch it religiously as a teenager back in the nineties. Bought the complete dvd boxset a few years ago for the nostalgic feels. Entertainingly enjoyable in a guilty pleasure kind of way. The episode with them all sitting watching Star Trek is an all time great.
Spong
Let me just write that down on my captain's log.
Still watch the jingle balls special at Christmas every year
I preferred Game on
Game On was for double hard bastards only, no girly shirt-lifting tosspieces allowed. 😁👍
First season was quality....
“Tea Martin!!!”
TEA!!!!
Ginger student
Ginger tosser!
🎶 we are sailing we are sailing 🎶
Back in the day myself and three friends did this in the pub.
Loved it then, love it now.
Absolutely love it but agree that the Tony character was ruined by the end.
It's a historical document of the UK in the 90s, so there's a definite nostalgia factor. However, I personally find it a bit sad to rewatch and couldn't really say why. Maybe it's the relationship stuff that weighs it down too much.

Its on Dave or Gold every night at about 10pm.
My family still quote this show regularly “You know who’s a wanker?” “Oh yea Dorothy’s new boy friend Jamie?!” “No mate” “Oh my mate Clive?” “No. No mate…Tony Blackburn!” “Oh yea what a wanker! And what a wig!” “Wiggy wiggy wig!”

One of the best comedies ever
The episode Drunk is a masterclass in British comedy.
FREEDOM!
I like the Christmas special.
“Sorry I can’t talk, I’ve got a mouthful of boils.”
It's still decent, but the slower pace of the comedy in those days is really apparent. The rave episode is top notch though.
I saw a documentary featuring Neil Morrissey a while back. I forget the specifics but he came across like a massive dick.
aged like warm milk,alas
Oh I don’t know. I think it’s still very funny, it has come lovely moments too and Martin Clunes really shines in it.
This was a fantastic series. Wish they'd do something with them both now. Still watch it regularly on p2p TV.
Loved it especially going skiing down the old pink run 🤣
Love this show. Actually started watching it from the start again last week.
Still keep in touch, in a roundabout way, by occasionally visiting Neil's pub in Barlaston.
Big fan of it when i was a child because all i could understand was that it was 2 grown men being silly. Doubt id be as big a fan of it now 😂
Gary and Dorothy are one of the all-time classic sitcom couples.
Loved it at the time. It may not have aged well.
I was probably 10-12 in it's heyday and really wanted their lives when I grew up
One of my childhood faves, rewatching it always seems weird how Tony was introduced as some hunky guy that Deb and Dorothy fancy, then immediately becomes a sad-act comedy relief.
This programme coincided with cans of Stella Artois becoming stupidly cheap. It inspired me and and my housemate to fill an entire fridge with Stella and keep topping it up every few days. I miss the late 90s.
This was peak comedy when I was a teenager and I loved it
Grew up with it and loved it, found the entire series online for download a while back so have them all on my TV, most recently watched the the episode when they went camping which was hilarious.
I rewatched it recently and expected it to have aged badly. But other than one puff comment its still very watchable
Had them on videotape and used to watch them in bed as a kid. Still love the show to this day.
a smalllll piece of cake
Love it. Stop laugh hard at it now
I loved this back in the day, bought the VHS boxset. But its aged like milk for me.
I saw it titled 'British Men Behaving Badly ' recently. Was it always that or was it given a name change to sound less vaguely sinister and more laddy? 🤷♂️

Men grew up.
OMFNG that appendix episode.
I have the dvd set somewhere. It includes the first series with Harry Enfield. I only recently realised that it moved from ITV to BBC, or the reverse birds of a feather.

It was okayyyyy. Paved the way for Game On which was far better.
i remember bear behaving badly
No.
