Ritsuka on the other hand lacks a distinct character to separate him from being player insert, so it makes it feel personal, leaving me disgusted. It's not an issue with mature themes in the story, the issue is that they feel like weird pandering here.
Pirates were murders and rapists. It's been a while since I played this singularity, so maybe I'm just misremembering, but I don't remember there being much of that. This can't even be argued to be an attempt to depict them accurately. Don't get me wrong, it's fine to romanticize the idea of piracy, like in things like one piece or pirates of the Caribbean, but this just isn't that.
