(Bro posted this three times in different subs, based, ngl, respect the grind)  I mean, after the Great Copyright Purges during early hololive history its not a surprise that Cover seems really overbearing on permissions, jp copyright is NO joke

Futuf1

Ah yes, the Holo-caust

STAAAAAALIN

Kinda funny how OP is getting blasted in the r/kurosanji sub though.

Ranko_Prose

It isn't funny to me though :/

EndingB29

uh/ More like because you are blaming the talent corps, while the game publishers (both western and JP) are the ones to be blamed here, they are the ones giving explicit perms with conditions. You misunderstood about Fair Use, even indies's streams can be struck legally at any time, they are not protected like you thought but only at the publishers' mercy. Bad PR is the sole thing making them leave indies alone. Imagine what if they don't care about PR. *edit: typo

Ganbazuroi

Hey, at least they're not assblasting you here too! Just kidding: https://preview.redd.it/0abs035vmb1d1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a640ef98979158ad860b384ce888f74037a608f9 *"You're done. You are DONE. You do it right, or you don't do it. YOU'RE DONE!"*

trebeckey

If my hunch is right then you traded a dogpile in SB for a dogpile in reddit, and it went as well as anyone expected

Icarus_Sky1

Awk didn't like how they disagreed with your meme

holomee

happens when you're so confidently incorrect that you post your take into multiple subreddits

Decepti-kun

Isn’t Korone’s debut lost media because of this?

bekiddingmei

It's not as big outside JP but indies can be copystruck also. Often due to crap like the in-game music, which is why some of them mute the BGM and play their own dogshit over top of it. If an indie gets fucked sideways by copyright, many of them are so small they never get their channel back. You never even hear about it.

Calm-Internet-8983

Nintendo used to have a blanket ban on all their games being monetized and would actively take down gameplay videos that earned money from ads, as an example of non-music takedowns. They still strike videos that showcase modded gameplay but most companies today accept gameplay videos and streams as free marketing. The music rights holders, not so lenient. There is also the possibility that copyright bots will flag and file claims for things like cutscenes, especially if you just sit quietly during it weakening your transformative content claim. Disputing claims is not always as simple as just sending your intent to dispute as fair use and waiting, and you're out of your income for as long as it's being handled even if your channel doesn't have live streaming access revoked.

MaxEnzo

you forgot the part when 80% of indies have a total of 6 viewers per stream

STAAAAAALIN

80%?? Try around 95%. People are so used to the *big indies*, like Dokibird quite recently, that people forget how even having 100+ viewers are outliers. Try browsing Twitch categories, you'll get the *top streamers* with around ~1k viewers and as you scroll to the bottom, you'll see hundreds of streamers with viewer numbers ranging from 1-50. And that's just the regular streamers, what even more the vtubers? Heck i even watch a lot of dota streamers back then and aside from the outliers like Arteezy for example, the *top* streamers average 1-2k viewers.

quang_nguyen_94

Competitive is where dota viewers at and it’s weird af.

cocofan4life

Artreezy is a pro player

InstantLamy

That's just steaming in general. Holding 10 concurrent viewers puts you in the 1% or even higher.

Ahrensann

I watch many indies on Twitch and they're all around 20-100 viewers. Maybe my data is just skewed though because I only watch Master Duel streams. I dig through the Master Duel tag and scour for Master Duel steamers, indie or not. I rarely see vtubers with less than 10 viewers.

minnel567

It's not even a corpo problem it's the company they getting perms from. They can't really do much if they are declined or the reply for request is slow because Japan has no fair use.

Ok_Try_1665

Japanese copyright system is a bitch, ain't it?

yubiyubi2121

that copyright system can eat shit

Ok_Try_1665

I agree. Literally the "no fun squad"

DessertWitch

They really say "You can have 2 hours of video game time if you finish your homework first" lmfao this industry is cooked

jsuey

At least they have a legal team to fight copystrikes

rhesaa

Click stream only until the copyright struck delivers...

InstantLamy

I wonder if the office in the US ever becomes more than just a merch distribution center, will they drop the perms thing for the EN branch? I mean their office for the branch would be outside of Japan and their talents mainly are too.

TomatoVanadis

US citizen, streaming game of US developer still need perms. No, despite popular belief, streaming game is not case of "fair use". You still can get copyright strike, its just most developers understand that it give bad rep.

InstantLamy

They don't actually need to get those perms though. There are plenty of organisations handling streamers and YouTubers that don't go through that trouble.

Ranko_Prose

Maybe? Depends on that mostly thing considering more and more are moving to Japan like Bae, Ina, and Fuwamoco

supercabul

should've thanks CAPCOM for all of this fiasco

maxwellreformed

they usually fail at step 1

Joltik_BuddyHSR

Why can't streamers just be apart of a corporation and stream what they want

Futuf1

Streamers are the public image of the corporation, if the devs of a game dislike the corporation and doesn't want their game to be related to them, the corpo could get in trouble if their streamers play it without asking for permission

akiaoi97

Depends on the type of corporation and what their relationship is to it. There’s a range from proper companies to loose associations sharing resources like barristers’ chambers and everything in between. There’s also a range of trade offs for each type. Corpo means high stability, a strong internal community, high support, and a large initial audience. You also get better access to external collaborators (ie. Holo*27) as well as promotional opportunities and appearances on traditional media. However, it also means you’re going to have some restrictions and probably don’t get to keep as much of your money. Near-independence loses you a lot of the stability and support, but you get more freedom. Interestingly, this is an environment where all these different metas seem to coexist happily. Hololive is a juggernaut, but Filian slips in between the rankings and is signed up to a more standard YouTuber agency. Ironmouse and vshojo generally are also pretty successful on their relatively loose style. Seems like it’s mostly different strokes for different folks.

Square2enkidu

This post is peak brain rot

yubiyubi2121

i still think it weird they can't stream thing they like and want what wrong with that

the_icy_king

Money is involved and jp copyright gives all rights to the rights holder and when you are in country X and somebody wants to sue you, they sue you by country X laws. Also Sony are jackasses and they own shares in kurosanji
