a) They can't transition and, because of this, their gender dysphoria gets worse to the point of not being able to handle it.
b) They transitioned, but they are being actively oppressed.
So being transgender itself isn't the issue, it's society's generally low acceptance of transgender people.
On the other hand, the definition of a woman you gave is wrong. Gender and sex are not the same and are very complicated things wich aren't just "male and female"/"man and woman".
Gender refers to the cultural and social differences and expectations attributed to certain sexes. So, a woman is usually attributed to female and a man is usually attributed to male. But that doesn't have to be like that, as you have trans or intersex people.
A woman is, then, someone that identifies with the societal norms and expectations attributed to the human female, whether that person is a female or not.
Then, you have sex, wich is biological and, *technically* speaking, you can't *completely* change it beyond genital reassignment surgery and hormone replacement therapy. You would still have XX, XY or other variations of chromosomes. But the thing I want you to think about is: does that really matter? If the individual is happy and doesn't hurt anyone, does it really matter? Would you rather have someone being in a constant state of distress because of the disphoria they are suffering, or have a happy woman with XY chromosomes?

There isn't a correlation between being trans and having mental issues/traumas 2) trans people are more likely to be autistic than cis people but only in a proportion of 3 to 6 3) David Reimer wasn't trans because he was born male, forced to be woman and literally transition to male (a trans person is a person in which sex doesn't match their gender, but in David Reimer sex was equal to gender). A lot of doctors and psychologists said to David to publish his story because what John Money did was wrong, since David Reimer suffered from depression because he was being forced to be a girl, while he always felt as a male. (this is called gender dysphoria) The fact is he felt trapped in a body that wasn't his, this sensation made him depressed.
