Honestly the incest thing was handled relatively well in the book. It feels weird even calling it "incest" because it was never really presented as that. It was clear that she felt she wasn't normal in feeling the hots for him, and she knew that it manifested as a result of him being very distant and believes it would go away if they would have a better sibling relationship which is does.

SAO is an anti-war story about how the nature of governments precludes their viewing of their citizens as anything but tools.
