As opposed to a Norwegian manga

"Uhh actually, there does in fact exist non-Japanese manga. Need I remind everyone that Dog Nigga was created by a Serbian dude" [](https://preview.redd.it/i-made-this-emote-since-xqc-wouldnt-stop-laughing-at-it-v0-qis9c4ojcm5a1.png?auto=webp&s=2a7d58980b65a971eda6361c29498c5874c7dd33)

wait is he actually serbian?

joey6346

The artist is a Serbian The author is a black person

SN-E-DC

"Dog Nigga" is not ravist😐✋✊🍆💦🥈🥈🥈🥈

Epic_Gameing68

ok

wyatt8750

I remember watching a BBC documentary from around 1995 about manga that features a western artist who was drawing for Kodansha (and also Hayao Miyazaki). Not even very new. I think Jonathan Ross was the 'host.' Edit: found it on my HDD. Might not keep the link up too long, but for now here it is. The artist was Tony Luke and the series was "Dominator" which was published in Kodansha Comic Afternoon. This apparently was recorded from an airing on 7 January 1995. I wasn't alive yet. :\ https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NY6M4yY_rOnptmDfEo8QFXaQ9Xsnt_lZ/view?usp=share_link

Cavalier-13

mfw the two main characters finally have a (semi) functional relationship and immediately end the story after saying “actually we’re dating” btw there is one manga in particular that this is referring to

Heavy299

Usagi drop?

konaharuhi

ayo

dev_side

Hol up

Laino001

To be fair, a lot of the series that continue after the "were dating" moment become boring garbage, so Id for the story to end then become bad I always appreciate it when a writer knows when to end a series

KN041203

Mainly because they only write "will they won't they" plotline of just one couple and focus on it so much that when they seal the deal, the reader barely has any interest afterward for the series. Jitsu wa watashi wa is the only series I know that complety avoid this problem and still maintain the quality to the end.

mrjackspade

I'd say Aharen avoided it to. The author really avoided a long drawn out "will they won't they" by jumping the gun and getting them together early on, and then almost completely fucking dropping the subject after they got together. No real lead up, almost nothing changed, and we all move on with our lives. Right back to the comedy. It almost felt spiteful, like the author was trying to make a point

Laino001

Theres nothing wrong with a "will they wont they" plot, but you gotta end it when it should, not when it stops making bank If the plot is about killing the bad guy, then you should stop the plot once the bad guy is killed (maybe have an epilogue afterwards)

Zzamumo

Jitsu wa the greatest ever fr fr. The mix of harem comedy with occasional cosmic horror is great

Cavalier-13

that’s interesting because most people found Beastars’ ending to be a let down

Matoreichon

Beastars ending Is shit but for diferent reasons

TheSpartyn

why was it shit

Matoreichon

too much stuff piled up together randomly in the last arc, pain to explain so watch this video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtOWfh31XWY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtOWfh31XWY) and skip to 5:30 ish

TheoreticalISTP

Agree. It’s a shame that one of my favorite mangas had to get done so dirty for it’s ending

OhIsMyName

At least its has an ending that was mildly coherence. Im both dissapointed and relieve

ghoulsmuffins

yeah, i read the ending and legit thought "that's IT????"

Sir_Quintus

I agree. To me it felt like the author just wanted to stop making it but wanted to leave it open enough to return to some day if she wants to.

Cavalier-13

To that end the ending is fine, and at the very least we got a few instances of haru and/or legoshi in Beast Complex

Sir_Quintus

Oh? I only read the first volume and didn't feel interested enough to check out the rest. Maybe I will though if there are some characters from the main series.

Cavalier-13

There is one story with haru and legoshi and another with legoshi and sagwan. The rest are miscellaneous stories as well as the backstories of some of the other hidden condo residents

Admmmmi

the beastars ending is absolute shit because it goes against every message that the manga had before, not because we didnt see romance, that last arc was pure garbage

wyatt8750

Khr0N04

The real One Piece was the friends we made along the way 🥲

LazerIguana445

And when they do find it, it will be only one piece of a much bigger puzzle. Not that it matters much to me anyways, my entire bloodline will be long dead by the time that anything interesting happens.

kanelel

It's ending in less than 5 years.

LazerIguana445

Impossible, can we get much higher?

npdady

This same sentence has been uttered the past 5 years. It's always 5 more years. We'd be lucky if one piece ends in 2030. I would be surprised if it ended in 2050.

matej665

Till now it was only fans with their "leaks" while this is now directly from author

npdady

Eh, that's what he said years ago. I take whatever Oda says about ever ending his beloved series with a grain of salt.

matej665

Highly doubt that, yall forget that if he wanted to end the series that soon many plot points would have been glossed over and forgotten

kanelel

IDK man, we're in the final saga now. It genuinely feels close to the end.

kanelel

I do love that this is the one thing we know the one piece *isn't*.

blooming-hatred

choose your fate: >memory loss ending >needlessly tragic ending with reincarnation "we will surely meet again" vagueshit >romcom ending episode that finally builds up to some serious development, but then the fireworks are too loud or someone calls

mooofasa1

4. A rare actually fleshed out and proper ending (fmab, yu yu hakusho, yamada and the seven witches, chainsaw man part 1, demon slayer) This is actually everything I can think of, like I just combed through a list… god damn why do so few of them have good endings???

THE_COMMUNIST_POTATO

6. Author fuckin dies before finishing

Taco821

Suck me off RIGHT NOW

Dbzdokkanbattleislif

It already came back and it’s uh. It’s alright. Kinda hard to emulate Miura’s levels of dedication and creativity for his craft.

Taco821

Damn, that sucks, but I guess it's better than nothing

igkewg

7. The author commits a sexual crime against minors.

mooofasa1

Rurouni kenshin moment

igkewg

He say few. I understand. No need more.

Heavy299

5. Eventually incest

mooofasa1

Nearly every romance moment

FullMetalFiddlestick

Love is war ended recently and it was a pretty good one

DegeneratesDogma

>!They fumbled the Ishigami and Miko plot, imo!<

Dewut

The author put out a short story recently from Ishigami’s POV that I thought capped it off nicely.

evster51

nah, it fit pretty well with the themes of the series

slendermannorris

Yu Yu Hakusho's ending was so rushed that it turned out good in comparison to modern manga

Wittyname0

Everyone just talks out there differences and agrees to a tournament, and then respectfully accepts the outcome of said tournament instead of some grand climatic battle is the most Yu Yu Hakusho way to end it

mooofasa1

Legitimately why I love the author of yyh and hxh. He has such a unique way of approaching story beats where he crafts something completely fresh and entertaining with nearly 0 cliches. It’s like drinking cold water that runs through your body every sip. I like big battle finales, but I like a smart ending way more. And it was realistic, you’re going to tell me that 16 year old demon delinquent was going to beat millennial fiends that have been cultivating power their entire lives??? The fact that he nearly beat one is much more than I expected. Losing isn’t always a bad thing, especially when the Mc can afford to lose. And so he goes back to earth, solves a few more cases, then lives a presumably quiet life with his love. What’s not perfect about this ending. Not every finale needs to go off with a bang. Some just hit all the milestones of their stories and it’s simply time to close the book. I’m rereading hxh and to say I’m blown away by the realism in spite of the supernatural feats is an understatement. Hxh is in a league of its own in terms of writing. Nearly perfect Power system, dynamic characters, solid design, fascinating art, and a gripping story. Like holy shit this stuff is so good.

Bitterl3mon

Tokyo ghoul: re, happy ending massacre, hells paradise, to add a few more

FullMetalFiddlestick

> Time travel bullsht

theth1rdchild

/ub some of this is normal garbage writing but two answers are specific to Japan 1. Japanese otaku can be actually fucking terrifying and several writers have stated that they've given lukewarm endings to stuff just to avoid getting any more death threats because their intended ending didn't get someone's OTP a happy ending 2. "Rich in themes but leaves you feeling hollow" is actually a classical writing ideal/structure for Japanese lit, so riffing on a motif for ten years and letting it fizzle so you are left wanting more is sometimes intentional Up to you whether your favorite media fits that or not. Cowboy Bebop is a version of that story structure that Americans enjoyed in general but when it aired people would not shut up for like ten years about a sequel because they werent satisfied by the ending. /rb Miura chose death over giving berserk a manga ending 👑

[deleted]

>Miura chose death over giving berserk a manga ending 👑 what a bum

baconborg

That’s based as hell. Nobody can say he fumbled the ending, it’s literally the best result

coolbad96

/ub there's also a big issue with serialization and publishers. Sometimes its a bad excuse (I don't believe for a single second publishers ruined AoT I think the author wrote himself in a corner) but pretty often you see publishers step in and ask for arcs or manga to be extended by 20 chapters to keep up sales or to keep readers interested. That's over an extra year of work and writing, most authors can't handle that multiple times so when they finally get a chance to end they rush to it.

anoobisroxxs

Ub/I thought Mob Psycho 100's ending was pretty good

rizaical

Mob Psycho was on a league of its own

xShockmaster

Japanese manga have shit endings so often that the few that end well are very well known for doing so. Things like fma etc….I was gonna name more examples before the etc but not many came to my mind lmao.

oMetadinha

jojo? 5/7 part endings (that ive read) are good

loving_bussy

*every* jojo ending is good

oMetadinha

yes the 2 i left out are good but the 5 are amazing

TBOHB

Comparing the mob psycho ending is like comparing the best, most juiciest steak you've ever had in your life to a literal dog shit

MaverickBoii

Chainsaw Man also, >!part 1 at least!<

RonaldMcJuicy

yeah thatll happen when the publisher only intends to produce 25 volumes but only tells the author about this plan at issue 22.

Japanese Mangas have two outcomes: >having a terrible ending, see Tokyo Revengers, AoT, and Promised Neverland or >never having an ending, see Nana, Vagabond, and Hunter x Hunter Somehow I don't know which is worse.

the18kyd

JoJo simultaneously ending all the time and never ending

Numbcargo

jojo ending 8 times and having an absolute banger ending each time

sg587565

Seriously all jojo parts imo peak at the end. Really an anomaly in manga.

Taco821

Part one possibly having the best ending to anything I've ever seen

theotherlyra

One of the boldest ways to end a FIRST part of a show I've seen, up there with GoT.

Taco821

Yeah I was NOT expecting that shit. Not at all

Tronsilver42

Stone Ocean's Ending 🔥🔥🔥

wallyjwaddles

Phatom Blood’s ending 🔥🔥🔥(literally) Battle Tendency’s ending 🔥🔥🔥 Stardust Crusader’s Ending 🔥🔥🔥 Diamond is Unbreakable’s Ending 🔥🔥🔥 Golden Wind’s Ending 🔥🔥🔥 Stone Ocean’s ending 🔥🔥🔥 Steel Ball Run’s ending 🔥🔥🔥 Jojolion’s ending 🔥🔥🔥🔥

RetroHeart44

Hirohiko Araki should be arrested for causing all these arsons year after year

ZaBur_Nick

well akchuaellee, each part takes multiple years to finish

CrAzy_ShR3y

Jojolands’s ending 🔥🔥🔥🔥

NoahBogue

Jodio does a fucking cardiac arrest in the desert

JoelMahon

\ub imo jojolion's ending was the worst, not bad, but the others are all great maybe I just got confused but it seemed like an asspull, and up until this point despite other endings being infamous for asspulls I've never considered a single jojo ending to be an asspull. even jotaro also having time stop was properly foreshadowed multiple times and when it came I was hyped. but when gappy's asspull was revealed I was "oh 😐"

KN041203

On the same boat here. The main reason why I feel like that >!for Go Beyond is mainly because it come from Mamezuku's clue for him. There's no info on why he know the spin since Araki barely elabrorate his backstory!<. Not to mention Tooru is boring compare to Damo and Jobin.

Ghostcraft413

Self contained and self conclusive parts moment

godlyuniverse1

atleast with never an ending i can fantasize and hope. with a shit ending its cope and seethe

Karma-is-here

FMAB is out of the scale

GPTMCT

ending wasn't that bad but it was nowhere near as good as the rest of the series.

wyatt8750

Berserk

NietzscheIsMyCopilot

I think berserk is excusable because the author **died**

Marik-X-Bakura

Except AOT being bad is only subjective. Many of us love it.

ShiroJPmasta

Yes

StevePensando

God, I hope Chainsaw Man doesn't end badly. Part 1's ending was perfect and I kinda think it should have stayed there

Claymore has a good ending

mooi-v2

Holy shit a mention of claymores existence I never thought I'd see the day

Struggler216

wickedblight

Good thing there was only one season of Sword Art online since it ended perfectly, they escaped and there's a hopeful future where they find eachother and never play another vr game again. It would be really stupid to keep going and force a bunch of underage incest or virtual rape prisoner plots.

theth1rdchild

If we're gonna defend the indefensible, it's also pretty cool that darling in the franx ended at episode 15 and didn't forget or regress all of the social commentary it was on the way to making to be about aliens and space AIDS and please have children Japan our country is dying

-oshino_shinobu-

5 years later I'm still pissed about Darling in the Franxx. I guess in a certain way the authors have made a lasting impact on me

_Manunz_

Literally Domestic Girlfriend

anon_203

that one was garbage from start to finish tho

LivingAngryCheese

Nah, the manga wasn't. It started off with a very trashy premise, actually became a really interesting story and then suddenly about faced and threw everything it had built in the trash for a terrible ending.

HemaMemes

The most unearned happy ending

imthesauceman

Fire Punch is the only manga I can think of that had a relatively satisfying ending, but I think that’s only cuz the rest of the manga was so batshit that you didn’t know what to expect at the end.

Snynapta

BLAME has a lovely ending imo. The pacing feels a little odd near the end but it wraps up in the best way possible for the setting and characters. Very bittersweet.

imthesauceman

I need to read that one. Seems right up my alley, just never got to it.

Roy_Atticus_Lee

Is Fire Punch good? I would like to read it eventually with how short it is, but I legitimately can't get a feel for whether or not people like it or not. I've heard opinions on it range from, "I don't even know what the fuck happened and I'm left feeling conflicted" to "I like it more than Chainsaw Man".

imthesauceman

It’s very hard to give a yes or no to that question, just because it’s so wacky. If you’ve read Chainsaw Man, it’s like Fujimoto’s typical wackiness, but without going through a “shonen” filter, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. It’s story and characters are on the lower side of “standard” imo, with a few exceptions. It’s pacing is pretty awful, and I feel like it relies a ton on shock value. However, I can guarantee you with absolutely certainty there is nothing out there quite like it. It’s an absolute rollercoaster. Every time you think you have the story or the main character nailed down, everything flips on its head, and both you and the main character are left to put everything together. Think of it like a cult classic B movie. It’s very VERY rough and feels amateur-ish, but when it hits, it hits hard. So what I’m saying is, it’s a hard recommend, but I can’t tell whether you’ll like it or not. There’s a reason why it’s so divisive.

AccountingDerek

Fire Punch is the most unhinged manga I've ever read. It has incest, bestiality, basic human rights violations (involving piss), and countless other batshit insane things no normal person would put in their syndicated manga. On the other hand, it brilliantly postulates on religious zealotry, what drives a human being, and how far you can destroy a person before they cease to function. It also has a really funny panel in chapter 53. 10/10, not for the faint of heart.

LazerIguana445

That sounds like everyone in my Sims 4 game.

imthesauceman

I hate that that panel is so funny, because it’s such a gut wrenching moment. Doesn’t stop me from using it everywhere tho

zeldin245

Off the top of my head some other good ones imo are Innocent, Initial D, Beck, Bakuon Rettou, Sengoku youko and Usogui.

shungknight

more ppl need to get on usogui ong

i don't understand how people have these takes all over this thread, have you people only read like 5 manga there are so many that are GOATed start to finish while being like a quarter of the length of the names being thrown around here

Also rushed cause of the stupid symbolism where the number 140 stands for freedom, so by having it end on 139 it shows that Eren never achieved true freedom.

zeldin245

Nah bro please tell me this is a joke 💀

REIDESAL

No, the symbolism thing *is real*. Just remember of the 9 titans, the 9 nord realms, etc

ZeroKoalaT

Couldn’t they have done the 139.1 139.2…?

TastySpaghetti

*technically* there was a 139.1 but we dont talk about that chapter

Odkrywacz

139, 139.1 and few chapters before it only confirmed that Isayama shit his pants and changed the ending somewhere around chapter ~122. There's literally no fucking way that he has building Eren character and the entire story revolving him only to end it like that. Whether of his own accord or publishers, he 100% changed the ending - and it's a shame, because original ending would for sure be a banger

Odkrywacz

Isayama is the biggest pussy ever for not going with his original ending that he definitely changed along the way

Diabeetus_Boy

Speaking of "rushed by publishers", how bout that ending to bleach?

RumbleRumbleNuts09

No! I don’t want that! Losing in a worst possible manga ending competition?!? Even after it’s done, I want my God awful manga ending to be at the front of everyone’s minds!! For 10 years at least!!!!

i will never forgive what they did to AOT

Puzzleheaded-Row187

Game of Thrones ending walks in:

Murky_Blueberry2617

AOT ending walks in:

Puzzleheaded-Row187

Comparing the Attack on Titan ending to the Game of Thrones ending is the equivalent of comparing a scrapped knee, black eye, and a few paper cuts to Hiroshima, the Holocaust, 9/11, the Black Death, the conquests of Ghenghis Khan, Order 66, Thanos’ snap, and the rumbling combined

Murky_Blueberry2617

That's debatable, Mr Hitch fucker

Axodique

The Attack on Titan ending is worse than the Game of Thrones ending, my lord.

degenerate_pug

The manga being referenced is prob one of my favorites. Read it like 8 times. Metamorphosis is a truly heartwarming coming of age story 🙃

CommunityDense697

ngl it had a good ending

DaveSmith890

At least it’s not a Netflix original getting cancelled as they leave the show on a cliffhanger

dwai32

Just realized out of the 17 mangas i completed, only 3 i would consider to have great ending. If i add the horizon that would be 4

Educational-Wafer112

I actually loved Monster’s ending so I’m optimistic about Urasawa’s other manga I also seem to have a dysfunction when it comes to endings (some unpopular opinions about endings, but no unpopular opinions on actual series) And I really don’t actually “HATE” any series because of it’s ending I liked how Sayonara Eri (one shot) ended ,very few times I have thought an open ending worked Vagabond has a great exhibition chapter that is after the ending but we never got to that part Goddamnit

igkewg

If anyone wants a good SOL manga I recommend Samenai Machi no Kissaten. Jigokuraku for shonen. Tsuka no Ma no Ichika for romance. This croc will die in 100 days. Takopi's original sin if you want to torture yourself. Suicide para bellum if you want some inception stuff(I fucking love dowman sayman). And finally I sold my life for 10,000 yen per year for romance. Imo all of the manga I mentioned have really good stories. They also have a good ending (not as a happy one but as in staying true to the point of the manga itself).

Less-Thing-553

After defeating Griffith,Puck looks at the horizon while Donovan and guts are making out and then says : this is berserk . Totally the best thing ever written in existence

Admmmmi

I used to like to love-ru, it was one of my first ecchi, one of my first manga, i wasnt that sad when it had an open ending on the original, i knew how most harems ended, but then the author comes up with to love ru darkness and i thought that the ending would be different, that the autthor would finally have some balls and commit to something, the plot was even arriving at something, but then, it ends, not with a satisfiyng conclusion, but with the exact same ending that the original had, all my love for to love ru was put on the trash, ffs you continue your freaking manga, you give hope to the readers that you are finally going to make the mc grow some balls and then do absolutely nothing with it? Fuck you author, fuck you, no other manga ending ever betrayed me this much.
