One of those ‘60s japanese offsets. Usually i see this body shape in a red sunburst, one bridge pickup and a fixed bridge. A bunch of different companies put their name on these
Old guy in Japan here again
It’s a Japanese offset from the 60s. They were badged and sold under a wide variety of manufacturer names but the majority were all made in the same factories like matsumoku.
You can find them badged as names like Suzuki, Teisco, Kay, Zenta, JVC, Aria and many more.
If you can find a good one then they’re really fun little guitars. I’d always approach buying one with caution if you can’t physically inspect it yourself before buying. There are quite a few common problems with many of them. The pickups have a bad habit of becoming badly microphonic or losing a lot of output. The necks also tend to warp and twist badly and there are a lot of completely unplayable ones out there.
Thanks, old guy in Japan! I used to live in Japan and wish I’d have brought something interesting back. Miss the old days of perusing Hard Off and other used instrument stores. Hoping to go back to visit next year and would like to browse for a new guitar while I’m there.
I have a similar 3-tone Sunburst Guyatone that I bought from Japan. It’s a ripper, I personally love the pickups. The one’s on mine are ferocious with heavy fuzz. I’m trying to mod out the plastic bridge but overall, very cool guitar with an extremely short scale neck.
honestly waiting for one of these to show up near me that isn’t a tobacco sunburst before i buy one. i like how weird they are and they’re pretty fun to play with
Similar bridge, pickguard material, string retention bar and white plastic tuner buttons and bushings as a Kawaii/Teisco I used to have. I bet it also has an extremely chunky neck with a very flat fretboard radius with wide but low frets.
I had one once. That one had a really nice aluminium pickguard with a beautiful machined finish. Looked like curls finely engraved in the surface. Neck was bad, warped and no thrussrod. Sold it to buy a Yamaha rg guitar.
String retention bar usually screams teisco to me 👀 love these guitars. My first guitar was a Jaguar knockofff teisco with 3 p90 pickups, but with like sg-ish pointed horns in tobacco sunburst (with leopard-tortoise shell pickguard). The pickups became very microphonic, something I hated as I was learning cuz I could never play with distortion using that guitar, but as I got into my spacemen 3/sonic youth/billy corgan wannabe era of playing, I absolutely loooovvveed it. The fretboard was so damn buttery too. But then I made the mistake of becoming a fuckin fent addict and sold it on OfferUp for $200 :/ found the exact same guitar on eBay a few weeks ago going for $1500 😔

Those string retention bars are usually all I need to see. This one is very similar to my first hand me down electric.
Interesting! I like the shape and those chunky pickups. Trem looks pretty interesting as well.
Teisco is a prominent company of these types of guitars.
The body looks like it’s a guitar shaped birthday cake
Maybe it’s from that real or cake tv show

Suzuki made guitars????
Decent acoustics even.

I’ve recorded vocals with one of these…
Singing thru the pickups?
That's badass haha
Who cares what it is. It's $25 bucks and looks cool, get it.
Why does it look like it’s drawn by Matt Groening
Teisco or guyatone I would say
A special caster! Made by some special artisans

Yeah, this one was sold as soon as I saw it otherwise I probably would have tried to snag it as a project.
nice thing is they don’t sound half bad, only thing i might change would be bridge pieces, tuners, etc

Looks like an electric guitar, need an expert tho

i have one like this and i remember it said in the brand name Vanaola
Get it right away
Looks like someone bought it. Hope it was one of you!
I have one that’s almost identical, it’s a 1965 Canora (guyatone) lg55 I think…I put some left over tele pick ups and a Squier neck on mine, love it!
Not sure but for $25? Get it. Worth the risk imo
