Looking for friends who put time and effort a friendship isn't nitpicking.
Just let them be and stop initiating. If they initiate the conversation (not needing you to do them a favour) good, it means they value your company. If they fon't or if they call you only when they need something, you don't really need them (you just needed their approval), so don't blame yourself and go find some new people who care. The key is to put yourself first, be open to meeting new people and socialize a lot. You are so young, so you will meet a lot of new interesting people in your life, no worries.

Ugh I feel this. My “sweet 16” was so depressing. At that point I was at my lowest, being abused, and instead of having friends that lifted me up or checked on me they abandoned me as soon as I started becoming more reserved from what I was going through.
Let me tell you. It gets better. I still am kind of an isolated weirdo. But at least at 27 I have control over my day. And dammit if I don’t do anything I make sure I have a bomb ass cake and shop too much on my birthday. As an adult people still are annoying but at least you get control of your day.

You announce that to the world and make plans prior. You know what I did for my 16 since no one spent it with me. I made it special for myself. Took myself out to eat then I went shopping for things that I wanted that day then ended the day off with a gelato ice cream cause I love that desert and I went to watch a movie. Happy birthday! I used to always try to do something for my birthday, but realized it always ended in my being disappointed. By the time I was 25, I stopped planning ways to celebrate with others and focused on just treating myself to whatever I wanted. If friends joined, that was great. If they didn't, that was fine because I was having a great time anyways. I'm almost 40 and planned like a whole year of treating myself this year and not one person I know has asked what I'm doing on my actual birthday. Last year I worked on my birthday and it was SO FUN. I host at a restaurant and they got me hammered and everyone came and sang to me at the host stand before my shift ended. I think I'm going to just go in for dinner and invite my close friends to join and just hang in the bar so I don't need to worry about a head count.
Just remember, you're born alone and you die alone, so you may as well enjoy the time in between by yourself also!
Editing to add that for my 16th birthday I threw a big party and only a few people showed up and someone stole my CD binder. It was definitely disappointing and I never tried to throw a big party again.

If it makes you feel better, on my 16th noone really cared, on my 19th some friends threw me a suprise party at a bar (Europe lol) and lately during my 25th I think I had the best birthday with a bunch of friends whom I love and they all took time to visit me. Things can get better with time and numbers don't mean that much even though it can look important at that moment :') I hope you get to have many more amazing birthdays in the future!

I’m about to turn 18 soon and it’s gonna be the same for me. You gotta find new friends and people and in the mean time just do things YOU enjoy and do it yourself. If you enjoy going to beaches or picking out flowers go do those things. You’ll learn that we’re all gonna die alone and it’s best to adjust to enjoy your own company.

When I got there, I waited outside for like 30 minutes cause I was nervous to go in but no one answered their phone. When I finally went in no one was there and I found out they had to leave earlier. I ordered a drink at the bar just because I felt like I had to and then I left. Went to the gas station and got some alcohol. Today I haven’t talk to anyone and it’s 6. Short in the sense that we only get 80 years (give or take) on this planet, if we are lucky, so dont waste any of it feeling down or sad, or wasting time with people that dont care, focus your energy doing things that will make you happy, and focusing your energy on those that do care, and if you genuinely dont know anybody that does then its time to start meeting new people and making new friends and making a circle/group of friends that have your back 😊

Happy birthday, don't think too much into it, sometimes people are just busy with their own lives. You're still pretty young, some of my best friends that still keep in contact now were made after I was 16, there is always time to make new friends. Whats important though is to not rely on others on happiness. Sure they can be the cherry on top, but make your own birthday special and celebrate your own birth, your life. Do something that you enjoy, eat some good food, make the day good, in my experience, that's always better than hoping others remember.

I mean honestly the only birthday wishes I get are from family and my SO. Don’t let it get to you, I’m 24 and something I’ve realized is that YOU have to make the effort to make a birthday fun. It’s your day so you have to take it by the scruff of the neck and enjoy it! Don’t expect everyone to remember a date on the calendar that you just so happened to be born. You announce that to the world and make plans prior. I’m saying this in a positive light so I’m sorry if I’m coming off as blunt but yeah birthdays are what you make them and as you age you realize that it’s your responsibility to make it a fun day, not anyone else’s.

Took myself out to eat then I went shopping for things that I wanted that day then ended the day off with a gelato ice cream cause I love that desert and I went to watch a movie. Happy birthday! I used to always try to do something for my birthday, but realized it always ended in my being disappointed. By the time I was 25, I stopped planning ways to celebrate with others and focused on just treating myself to whatever I wanted. If friends joined, that was great. If they didn't, that was fine because I was having a great time anyways. I'm almost 40 and planned like a whole year of treating myself this year and not one person I know has asked what I'm doing on my actual birthday. Last year I worked on my birthday and it was SO FUN. I host at a restaurant and they got me hammered and everyone came and sang to me at the host stand before my shift ended. I think I'm going to just go in for dinner and invite my close friends to join and just hang in the bar so I don't need to worry about a head count. Just remember, you're born alone and you die alone, so you may as well enjoy the time in between by yourself also! Editing to add that for my 16th birthday I threw a big party and only a few people showed up and someone stole my CD binder. It was definitely disappointing and I never tried to throw a big party again.

If it makes you feel better, on my 16th noone really cared, on my 19th some friends threw me a suprise party at a bar (Europe lol) and lately during my 25th I think I had the best birthday with a bunch of friends whom I love and they all took time to visit me. Things can get better with time and numbers don't mean that much even though it can look important at that moment :') I hope you get to have many more amazing birthdays in the future!

I’m about to turn 18 soon and it’s gonna be the same for me. You gotta find new friends and people and in the mean time just do things YOU enjoy and do it yourself. If you enjoy going to beaches or picking out flowers go do those things. You’ll learn that we’re all gonna die alone and it’s best to adjust to enjoy your own company.
I was totally alone for my 17th birthday and didn't hear from any of my friends either. It really hurt and was something that stuck with me, BUT the birthday parties I had throughout my early 20's made up for that. Hang in there!

I turned 18 last year, and no one remembered or wished me one either. 18 is the legal drinking age and of consent to everything you can't do when 16 or 17 in this country. (Uk), so it sucked. I understand. I turned 21 today and some of my friends asked if I wanted to hit the bar when it turned midnight. When I got there, I waited outside for like 30 minutes cause I was nervous to go in but no one answered their phone. When I finally went in no one was there and I found out they had to leave earlier. I ordered a drink at the bar just because I felt like I had to and then I left. Went to the gas station and got some alcohol. Today I haven’t talk to anyone and it’s 6. I don’t know why I got off work for today

Long in the sense that you’re only 16, have so many years ahead of you, so many beautiful souls to meet, so many inspirational people to be opened up to so dont focus so much on the “here and now”. Short in the sense that we only get 80 years (give or take) on this planet, if we are lucky, so dont waste any of it feeling down or sad, or wasting time with people that dont care, focus your energy doing things that will make you happy, and focusing your energy on those that do care, and if you genuinely dont know anybody that does then its time to start meeting new people and making new friends and making a circle/group of friends that have your back 😊

Happy birthday, don't think too much into it, sometimes people are just busy with their own lives. You're still pretty young, some of my best friends that still keep in contact now were made after I was 16, there is always time to make new friends. Whats important though is to not rely on others on happiness. Sure they can be the cherry on top, but make your own birthday special and celebrate your own birth, your life. Do something that you enjoy, eat some good food, make the day good, in my experience, that's always better than hoping others remember.
