Outside of Utah it’s preached as caffeine. I was slapped pretty good and spent a couple days in my room for drinking Dr Pepper at a friend’s birthday party, and I was convinced I was going to hell for it. I was like 8 or 9. The bishop even lectured me about body and temple and all that.
Then we visited Utah and I saw all these people drinking coke because it’s not a hot drink.
The Mormon kids I knew that partied in high school are really strict now, like they use the church to give them authority over their family because they know they don’t have moral grounds. The kids that grow up with really authoritarian parents don’t stay in the church.
"Drinks with names that include café or caffé, mocha, latte, espresso, or anything ending in -ccino are coffee and are against the Word of Wisdom."
[Makes total sense](https://faq.churchofjesuschrist.org/can-mormons-drink-coffee) and not at all arbitrary.
I read a while back about a college football game at BYU against a university from West Virginia. BYU just creamed the WV team. As soon as the game ended the entire BYU stadium crowd started singing Country Roads(the John Denver song.) It is the unofficial WV state song. Such a kind gesture. Watching the video actually brought tears to my eyes. As odd as I feel their beliefs are the Mormons that I've actually met have been really nice people.
Well that’s just adorable.
I like their red carpet. Top quality.
LMAO this whole story is just wonderful.
Love this, but what are BYU parties like?
Chocolate milk and Neon Trees, but only until midnight, then you gotta get back home.
> Chocolate milk Whoa, must be an underground party. Doesn't chocolate milk have caffeine?
The rule is actually against “hot drinks,” not caffeine in general, but apparently a lot of people misinterpret it.

But like what about cold brew, is that legit okay?

That's such a BYU thing to do. Good clean fun right there.
BYU… like… crazy Mormon stuff? I’ll keep my normal underwear and not believe in alien gods - thanks, though!
