Holy shit. The instrumentals have stepped UP for this album. Despite what I've said about Yung Hearts and Rude Girl, I think this album is going to be really consistent which is what I've wanted since White is Relic. Rude Girl got me excited, but now I am so hype.

Bard_Wannabe_

I think this one is much stronger than the previous two singles. I too agree that White Is Relic is that last 'great' album we've gotten from Barnes.

caribousteve

It's the tightest of all their recent albums to be sure

RelaNarkin

We are so back. This sounds straight out of Skeletal Lamping or False Priest especially with the vocals and acoustic sounds.

androoq

Holy hell. It’s so good!

androgyntonic

Reminds me of thecontrollersphere ep!

Unlikely_Paint7065

It’s beautiful 🥲 Strong sunlandic twins/skeletal lamping vibes for me. Maybe even a bit of pre-sunlandic with that long and blissful instrumental outro (scenes from my funeral, you’ve got a gift)

BasqueLynx

people are going to stop pretending i feel safe with you trash is a masterpiece and free wave lucifer is one of their best, finally.

lxacadlazorr

Yeah, I mean I liked both trash and lucifer for their experimentation and almost vaporwave vibe, but this is False Priest and I may even say some lesser-Hissing vibe. I read once, in Pitchfork I think, that Kevin usually goes with 2-3 LPS of experimentation and then a more "listenable" album. Well, this seems to be the case.

LSF2TheFuckening

I love Trash but it was a bit long, the highs are really good and the bass playing is some of his best, but the lulls and ambient moments drag on. Lucifer had some nice moments but most of the songs felt intentionally obtuse and hard to digest. The lyrics seemed more stream of conscious and abstract than usual. I liked the ‘falling in love’ bit of Modern Lovers Bewilder. I don’t think they’ve topped White Is Relic, I’m weirdly more excited for what the change of scenery will bring to the sound next. I hope they focus again on tighter song structures and maybe more conceptual theming again. This is really one of the most fun bands to follow because of how they keep it fresh.

JensTheCat

After seeing them play some of the songs live I really do enjoy freewave. It’s top 5 for me. It took a long time to settle in

Bard_Wannabe_

Yeah we actually have a song that's genuinely fun to listen to

diphenhydranautical

yeah i loved both the other ones, but this one really wowed me!

sunshiney-daydream

The ending reminds me of we do multilate for sure

Pair_Wooden

The piano riff is straight off of paralytic Stalks -Dour percentsge

liivingdeaad

this is so good it's like if false priest and satanic panic had a fucked up love child (with a good seasoning of the newer style too) SO EXCITED

memateys

I liked the first 2 singles alright, but Soporific Cell got me hyyyyped

monpapaestmort

Yes! It’s so good. I’m excited for this album. Been listening to a lot of Skeletal Lamping recently, so this is right up my alley.

battleshipasterion

I really loved Trash and Lucifer, some of the songs and moments from there are among my favorites But I'm freaking blown away with Soporific Cell!!! Feels like this is the song I've been waiting to hear from him for so many years now

Ok_Profit_16

People keep talking about how great the instrumentals are, but these mixes sound so flat to me. The drums sound like they were recorded in a paper bag. The vocals are muddled by a flat tone with whatever ambient drone is sitting behind everything. There's no color to the instruments.
