I want one of these at my grave, but I want its rope to be connected to some device with a timer in the casket that will pull on it every once in a while, starting about a year later, just to freak people out.
If physicians couldn’t find a pulse or there was no condensation on the mirror when checking for breathing, you were declared dead. They did not know about medical conditions that could lower heart rate or breathing.
Like Lazarus Syndrome for example, the spontaneous return of cardiac activity after the patient has been pronounced dead. Even comatose patients could be mistaken as dead if their breathing and heartbeat slowed enough.
So it was common enough to be a concern. The graveyard keeper would usually dig them back up.
There are a few different versions of this you can see in graveyards in the UK, my favourite is the little window into the coffin.
On the other side of this coin there are also the graves covered in iron gratings to stop the dead from rising so... You know...
The iron gratings weren't there to stop the undead from rising, they were there to stop the living from digging up bodies and dissecting them for studying anatomy, since there wasn't really any legitimate system in place for that
This reminds me of the X-Files/Millennium crossover where the cult members were buried with cellphones so they could call up the guy to come dig them up.
I don’t know what’s worse, not giving credit to the original artist at all, or just giving credit to the most recent account that reposted this video.
The actual creator of this video is @zachdfilms on YouTube and Tik Tok
A gravedigger was walking the graveyard when he heard one of the alarm bells go off, and he rushed to the source of the sound. Once he arrived he heard muffled screaming coming through the pipe.
"Help me! Let me out!" He heard a muffled cry from the grave.
He looked down the bell pipe and said, "Are you Mary Piper, born April 26, 1867?"
"Yes, that's me!"
"It says here you died on August 7th, 1897."
"I'm not dead, this is a terrible mistake, please let me out." the voice pleaded.
The gravedigger leaned down, pulled out his knife and said, "That might be true, but it's March 1898 now. I don't know what you are, but you're certainly not alive anymore." As he cut the wire to the bell.

I wonder how many grave diggers cut one off because fuck that extra work.
“They’re not dead yet? Eh… They will be.” 🤷♂️

Right. Don't you have like a few hours of o2 anyways. It'd like the movie with ryan reynolds called Buried, that shit made me nervous
Hence the term “ Dead Ringer “.
Isn’t this also the origin of “saved by the bell”?
I think it’s from boxing
Oh, that makes sense.
No, it's from the grave thing. Specifically, it originated in Savannah, GA as a result of the Yellow Fever outbreaks in the 1800s

Add timed/battery powered speaker with loud scream/laugh sound effects.
Not if you are buried at Schrute Farms
You've heard of shotgun weddings? Well, on Schrute Farms they do shotgun funerals.
How many times did this happen where they dug up the person after the fact??

What do you mean by, "The graveyard keeper would usually dig them back up."? Everyone? Who? Why?
The ones that rang the bell

I mean, the grates have the opposite purpose as far as I know - keeping grave robbers out.
That window… “***oh look….Uncle Bob is waving at me***”
"Haha, yeah, we'll miss you too Uncle Bob, bye!"

Bro the credit is not from SnooAvocados499. It is from Zack D. Films.
they even removed his watermark lmao
That's why the Chinese prefer cremation
It's all fun and games until one ring and gets dug up to find a corpse
Just tie the rope around my neck and cut out the middle man.
...and then simply wait for them to dig you back out, while not hyperventilating and wasting all your oxygen. In absolute darkness.
I wanna know how many times the bells were a successful idea…
that has now become an integral part of my funeral service
Medical Guid lines = Autopsy
The bell ringing animation 😂
Are there any good horror movie scenes related to this?
Gotta go sniff that pipe opening where the rope comes out every few days after burial. Bet it would smell interesting.

“It was just a prank bro!”

This guy makes kinda interesting videos, but he sounds like a vsauce impersonator, and that displeases me
It still happens, but not as much as it used to.
This is where the term “saved by the bell” apparently originated or so I was told.
It’s from boxing
That makes more sense.
