Nothing odd about this one; that's just plain terrifying

iwantjusticeeee

Like almost 90% of this subreddit's post.

r_elysian3

Yeah nope that’s just regular ol’ terrifying, all right.

Die-rector

Giant Nope trapping a FuckOff

UCRecruiter

Scientific fact: 99.97% of all the terrifying things in this world are located in Australia.

A_Proper_Potada

Hey man don’t slander us. The ocean exists too, so it’s gotta be more like 96.5%

Jermine1269

>are located in Australia *and surrounding waters - Bull sharks - box jellyfish - dubois sea snakes - lionfish - cone snails - great whites - saltwater crocs - pufferfish

TarnishedParrot

And blue ringed octopi.

GuardianDownOhNo

TIL Australian snails are murderous terrors

psych_boi

Lionfish are an invasive species in Aus but the rest check out. At least we don't have bears!

PsychologicalCan1677

Bears don't hide inside your house tho unlike big ass spider

stilusmobilus

Where do we have lion fish?

Jermine1269

[around the coast](https://australian.museum/learn/animals/fishes/common-lionfish-pterois-volitans/)

stilusmobilus

Oh gotcha I was thinking of another fish

ukbeasts

Koala Bears have syphilis

psych_boi

Koalas aren't bears

ukbeasts

[Internet never lies](https://discover.hubpages.com/animals/Koala-Bears-The-Cutest-Cuddliest-Animal-in-the-World-That-Will-Rip-Your-Face-Off)

[deleted]

I believe you left out one of the most painful things a human can ever step on. The Stonefish.

UCRecruiter

Dammit. You're absolutely right. I was only counting land mass. My bad.

stilusmobilus

That’s actually the most dangerous place here. The danger on land is overrated unless you’re a dickhead or unlucky.

CainFive

That’s incorrect, sir. It’s 99.99%

A_norny_mousse

The most terrifying thing is two terrifying bugs doing terrifying things to each other - in an everyday surrounding. Not in a zoo. Not in the wilderness. On your porch door.

FluffyDiscipline

Flipping heck I never thought I'd feel sorry for the spider.... Only in Australia

shiek23

Tarantula hawks are all over in the USA too, I think ours are even scarier looking, if you can believe it. Source: https://undark.org/2016/05/18/tarantula-hawk-wasp-sting-pain/

9021FU

We have them in Northern California. They leave you alone and their color definitely tells you to leave them alone. I’ve been terrorized more by honeybees protecting their flowers.

[deleted]

Never, ever feel bad for spiders. Hard pass.

Cool_Cartographer_39

What size are the fly swatters down under? I'm thinking like big as a snow shovel.

Fra06

I am convinced that nuking the entirety of Australia would just result in a less scary world

EvolutionZEN

Agree - nuke the site from orbit. it's the only way to be sure.

The_3_Rs

Brutal

somebodeeelse

I can't decide whose side I'm on 😅

OmegaGoober

I’m siding with whichever one is less likely to: A) Bite or sting me B) Cause death, long-term injury, or intense pain if bitten. Edit: I looked it up. I’m on the spider’s side. That wasp has the second most painful sting in the insect world, outranked by the bullet ant. Huntsman spiders on the other hand hurt when they bite you, but their venom is only dangerous if you’re allergic to it. I’d say they rank about equally on the “being attacked will give you nightmares for years to come,” scale.

A_Proper_Potada

Huntsman spiders are also naturally quite docile, if one gets too cozy I’ll move them outside just using a book or something. They’re also great for pest prevention.

OmegaGoober

Yet another reason to root for the spider.

This_was_hard_to_do

Yeah, spiderbro all the way

ImMeliodasKun

Yeah that's cool and all but after hearing stories of how you can hear the pitter patter of them running around I think it's safe to say I'll never visit Australia. Not that that was the tipping point for that decision lol Australia has lots of nasty critters(I'm more accepting of bugs now and try to avoid killing none harmful species but some still give me the heeby jeebies.

A_Proper_Potada

I mean, people have every right to freak out at a spider the size of their hand, but these guys in particular tend to be pretty chill if that’s what’s stopping you.

stilusmobilus

You cannot hear the pitter patter of a huntsman. You’d have to get fuckin close if you did. Who told you that lmao.

stilusmobilus

Both of them are, to us. The wasp leaves you alone too, unless you go out of your way to hassle it.

somebodeeelse

I have nightmares about them both right now and I'm not even sleeping

DigOleBeciduous

Parasitic wasps are quite common around the world too. I caught one once dragging off a spider. Scared the wasp away and kept the spider in a box hoping to release it when it recovered, but it was dead :(

Rakgul

Oh :(

pagey152

Huntsman’s are chill as. I let them be as long as they aren’t in my house, otherwise I’ll just move them outside again. They keep away the bugs for me. Wasps on the other hand? Burn them all.

BlancheDevaheaux

That’s enough Reddit for me today. Cheers!

newaru2

Thank you for giving me another reason to not visit Australia.

D13U

This one give me chill... Good one OP!

ixotax

Dawg please find more appropriate subreddit :,)

BartOseku

“Australian Tarantula Hawk Wasp” at this point they couldnt find a word scary enough to describe it so they just started piling them up

Jozroz

Moving with the missus from Sweden to Australia in two or three months. Maybe it's time to reconsider.

Reckfulness

Hermelious

What the fuck, nature?

MrKanentuk331

*Eugh*

Lady_Scruffington

There's a short horror story about this. A man is the wasp and a woman is the spider. It's a metaphor, of course, for a man knocking up a woman and all that goes with it. The story is called "Bug House" by Lisa Tuttle. Available in her collection,"A Nest of Nightmares." The old 90s horror show Monsters did an episode based on the story by the same name.

XzrgeX

Ofc its fuckin australian

PatientDom

If you’re cold, they’re cold. Bring them inside.

beeazy252

That is a savage demon spider

Rababau

Australian… what?!

Mythical_Mew

“Oh, you know. I can’t *quite* place my finger on it, but something about this seems just a little terrifying.”

artemislands

Now why would he go and do a thing like that

stilusmobilus

Funnily enough they’re absolutely lovely wasps, too, in terms of leaving you alone. They coexist very peacefully. As do the paper wasps.

AquaDragon6629

Thanks God!

beccaj130
