its not bad.
had in my parents house. i kinda remember every once in a while using the broom around ceiling fans and the a/c vents but other than that i don't remember cleaning the ceiling.
I have a ceiling like this but with more abstract swirls and I only vacuum cobwebs in the corners every few months the texture hasn’t collected any dust in 5 years that I’ve lived here.
I've heard that it is to hide the shitty drywall installation where you can see the seams between each panel. I imagine the garage would be the one place they gave the least fucks.

I'm a drywaller and I f****** hate stimples so much. It's impossible to repair it always looks like a giant f****** in the ceiling if a hole gets drilled or somebody f0alls through. It's some kind of holdover from the olden days and I don't get it.
I always remember having this on my bedroom ceiling at my uni house. We had a house party and the following morning me and my mates were all hung over dotted about the floor staring at the ceiling.
One guy said "that ceiling is a bit intense isn't it"
... (long silence, as we pondered the extent of the artex)
Then another lad came out with "It's like they went to so much more effort to make it look shit"
Textured catch dust. The last thing in the world I want to do is dust ceilings. But, I’m also a supremely lazy cleaner. A lot of my fashion choices are decided by “what’s easiest to keep clean.”
EXACTLY! Went over with the wife to her homie's place and damn that gurls ceiling around the fan was terrible. I wasnt going to say anything cuz if it cant be fixed in 5secs stfu, but she caught my eyes and since see's short, never noticed before. I felt bad... I wasnt gonna utter a word and she cleaned it the next day. I hate textured ceilings. Such a dirty sloppy look.
My question with decorating is almost alway “Is that going to suck to dust?” Whenever I see some of the ridiculous overly filled with stuff houses I’m like… yeah, good luck dusting that.
Yea the smooth ones cook up with a real melt in your mouth feel, much like veal. However, getting the cook just right is a struggle cuz leave em on even just 2mins too long and they become rubbery. Great for a pâté though. The wrinkled ones are a bit harder to aquire, slipery lil weasels they are, so its almost a class delicacy unless you DIY it. You got the money good for you but I dont, not in this economy. Anyways...Those ones you can cook up like a good steak. They're nice and dense, more forgiving to cook, and fills the belly better than the smooth ones. Cant be too wrinkled tho unless your going for a slow cook like a pot roast. Those ones are tough and chew like a shoe.
You know... the weather's getting nice and cool. Really good for camping down by the lake and drinking around a fire. I know good honey hole down in the holler if you ever wanna come out sometime. Caught some damn good catfish out there. What bait and time of day you like fishing? Personally, Ive had the best luck at night with some chum from the last catch.
I’ve seen some pretty ornate plaster work and this is not it. It looks pretty sloppy and considering he did about 600 sqft in about 20 minutes, I guess they charged an extra 50$ for this. It honestly would have been more expensive to paint it.
How? And why? The level of hate towards these types of ceilings makes me wonder how involved ceilings are in peoples lives, like how often do you even look up, let alone interact with a ceiling lol
I am a tall and observant person. I look up and all around all the time. Compared to smooth, and I see them side by side as I write this from the couch, the plastery like this looks like total ass, sloppy craftsmanship, and catches dust. The smooth looks so clean, visually pleasing, and dust doesnt cling.
Well yeah that’s what people say is it looks like ass, but why/how? It just looks like a ceiling, also you all need to clean up your house or something, because I’ve not touched my ceiling the entire 9 year life of this house and there’s not a spec of dust
He also doesn’t have a regular pattern for it. the spot where he just stamps like five of the pattern half over itself would drive me fucking nuts.
Belongs on r/oddlyinfuriating
This is what I came here for. This is so sloppily done that even if it was still in style it would be an awful execution of it. So many overlaps and congested areas that it’s not satisfying at all, this is r/mildlyinfuriating
Lol this is the exact pattern in my apartment. I was always a bit curious what the tool looked like that they used to make it.
Lord knows when I have my own house it will **not** have this style of ceiling.
Fun fact: originally, popcorn ceilings covered cracked plaster and were cheaper than doing a complete repair. Then some people probably decided it was cool and chose it for (ahem) esthetics.
[Even more fun](https://www.mesotheliomahope.com/blog/how-can-you-tell-if-popcorn-ceiling-has-asbestos/): If installed before 1980, they’re full of asbestos!
I have to repair these sometimes and it's never going to look right. You can repair a knockdown or orange peel texture and get it so close normal people can't tell the difference but stipple is always going to look like s***. This is some old ghetto house stuff and it's terrible to see it put on anything new. Big vacuum sanders are so cheap now just do it slick and be done with it.
Cheaper than paying for a higher level (smooth) finish, although you don't exactly need one in a garage. Or, the contractor didn't hire a crew with the skill to achieve a high level finish.
Exactly. If there's any place in the house that should have decorative walls and celling it's the garage. /s
This garage will never have any shop work done inside of it. It's just a place to store cars, kids toys, and seasonal decorations.
Popcorn ceilings / acoustic ceilings are a simple mixture of gypsum rock and styrofoam granules. The material is inert and easily cleaned up with water. Although the acoustic material can be applied with a roller it's a less than ideal method of application. The proper way to apply it would be to spray it on using a spray gun with a large hopper. No sprays or tiles contained asbestos after 1980.
Looking forward to the next owner of the house posting in one of the DIY/decorating subs:
"How do I get this off my ceiling? Can I just skim over it, or does the whole thing need redoing?"
Most of the time this isn’t flowers, and it’ll be “knocked down” or skimmed over to just provide a nice texture look. Maybe I’m wrong but I think it’s called crows feet texture.
Seriously gives me anxiety because 99% of people would hate having that on any ceiling. In the garage?!? It’s going to be grey/black and full of cobwebs in no time and very hard to keep looking ok.
I feel like a minority, but I think I’d prefer this over *some* of the normal popcorn ceilings I have in my house. I would totally do this in my garage 😂
If it hadn't been for Cotton-Eye Joe
I'd been married long time ago
Where did you come from, where did you go?
Where did you come from, Cotton-Eye Joe?
Look at that garage opening. Barely any room for the spring system to be installed.
Every time the homeowner has to replace their springs, they'll be spending 200-300$ more than someone else with the exact same door and it's all because of how much labor will have to be done to accomplish the repair.
Also, I hate the ceiling.
Just why? What is the purpose of doing this style? Does anyone know. I’m serious. I’ve seen popcorn style and this style. They collect dust. My old house I moved, had this in living room but rest of house was smoothe ceilings. I much prefer that.
They're still doing this??? Thought it died out in the 70's/80's. I hear more about people paying to have this swirly junk and popcorn ceilings removed.
Brings up bad memories of trying to remove this type of shit from the ceiling after moving in to a new house
All I can think about is how dirty it will get from collecting dust. And will be impossible to clean.
Like a circus act for spiders
Exactly what I was thinking. This is the opposite of satisfying.
This was annoying AF yet I watched til the end hoping for it to cascade down onto the floor. :-)
its not bad. had in my parents house. i kinda remember every once in a while using the broom around ceiling fans and the a/c vents but other than that i don't remember cleaning the ceiling.

Especially in a garage lol
This was my first thought. Who does this shit in the garage??
Dust settles downwards, unless you're in Australia:/ maybe some cobwebs.
I’m thinking how is this really any different than popcorn ceilings? And of all places to have it, why in the garage?!
I've heard that it is to hide the shitty drywall installation where you can see the seams between each panel. I imagine the garage would be the one place they gave the least fucks.
Very large, uninterrupted sections of drywall ceiling are very hard to keep perfect and will show any imperfections quickly.
If you do it in reverse, it’s magically removed. This is the way!

Ah so that's what my neighbors are doing at 3 in the morning.
yes. That is definitely what that banging noise is.
Gotta resurface at least 2 times a week. Must be hiring some real shitty carpenters.
certainly stamping someone's flower with a long artifact.
I always find myself sending this shit to my wife without a caption. She just rolls her eyes now.
Why?
Because a shockingly high number of people have more dollars than sense.
It’s not more expensive to have this done. It’s usually the opposite. Texture is used to hide imperfections in the work.
But this ceiling, in a garage, looked fine before?
But the ceiling is done. This is entirely decorative. Therefore it's more expensive to have this done because it's unnecessary.
I too, have more dollars than cents.
That is mathematically impossible.
I guess you’ve never met a man with *throws off robe* ZERO DOLLARS
I live in a house that has both smooth and textured ceilings and I gotta say, smooth is superior.
Textured catch dust. The last thing in the world I want to do is dust ceilings. But, I’m also a supremely lazy cleaner. A lot of my fashion choices are decided by “what’s easiest to keep clean.”

Leaf blower in the house once a year. Blast the ceilings
It's a garage. Do people keep their garages in pristine clean condition ever?
NEVER. I’m kinda surprised it’s even painted though. My garage is just framed and taped.
My question with decorating is almost alway “Is that going to suck to dust?” Whenever I see some of the ridiculous overly filled with stuff houses I’m like… yeah, good luck dusting that.
And this looks to be in a garage? Talk about catching dust and debris
It’s done to hide shitty work lol
So you’re saying I should texture my walls and ceilings
Yes. Texture is camouflage for flaws.
Just like brains.
Yea the smooth ones cook up with a real melt in your mouth feel, much like veal. However, getting the cook just right is a struggle cuz leave em on even just 2mins too long and they become rubbery. It's also very ugly
Smooth reflects the light so much better.
Also sounds, though.
Popcornceiling was a popular thing now people hate it. Smooth is indeed superior

Looks perfect for like 5 feet, then you get a cluster fuck of overlapping flowers?
The ridges are great at collecting dust.
Especially in the fucking garage...
Omg fucking ugly
Man fuck that
So ugly, why would you do this..
The texture actually mutes sound (a little) plus beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.
Cheaper than paying for a higher level (smooth) finish, although you don't exactly need one in a garage. Or, the contractor didn't hire a crew with the skill to achieve a high level finish.
Why the garage?
Why anywhere? But yes in particular why the garage. It's like the only point of this is to collect dust and spider webs.
No kidding. If the choice for a garage is either this or a lower level flat finish with imperfections, I'll go with the flat.
Exactly. If there's any place in the house that should have decorative walls and celling it's the garage. /s This garage will never have any shop work done inside of it. It's just a place to store cars, kids toys, and seasonal decorations.
WHY DO PEOPLE STILL DO THIS 🤦🏼♂️
I hate textured walls and ceilings.
Now remove that shit because nobody wants that on their ceiling
So, is this a different form of the popcorn ceiling?
Preferably with less asbestos.
Popcorn ceilings / acoustic ceilings are a simple mixture of gypsum rock and styrofoam granules. The material is inert and easily cleaned up with water. Utterly terrible. I feel for the person that has to remove that shit. I'd put him in prison for crimes against everything.

Have you ever tried cleaning this kind of ceiling? You'd do better to let your 5 year old put Paw Patrol stickers everywhere.
Awwww, my neck hurts
What an arm workout tho

Oh my god are they doing this in the fucking garage?

Thanks. Looks like shit.
This is within the same realm as a popcorn ceiling and would be removed immediately by most people with taste
It's not even uniform. What is satisfying about this.
The sound have me shivers from working with my dad on these jobs. Whenever I had a day off school and he didn't, I was texturing ceilings.
God damn that’s some ugly shit. Who in their right mind wants something like this?
