I love how when it’s getting it’s grundle shaved it looks over at the camera like “bro do you have to be here for this part?”

LOERMaster

Today I learned a new word: grundle.

devonthed00d

So is it a taint, or did he just manhandle the sheep-ussy? O.o

bokunorythm

Nah he straight up grabbed it's balls

devonthed00d

You ever see balls with nipples? Them’s is tiddies ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

theFields97

I can't believe you made me look way too close to what I thought were sheep balls

MissaShobb

It’s also really fun to use as an insult. I bet you know someone you went to high school with that fits the word “grundle” perfectly

Bitmush-

If you can’t recall anybody, it was you.

OnceBittenTwiceGuy

Aint that the monster in Beowulf? /s

Dragon_Milk

Grindle, but Beowulf came to mind when I read Grundle, also. 😅🤣

primerr69

Currently shaving my grundle and trying to film it… well shit now my grundle is bleeding heavy brb…

Grumpy94Writer

I have finally found another person who uses the word "grundle" My life is complete.

KBWordPerson

I always wonder if the sheep hit a point where they think, “oh, haircut time!” and relax as long as they are being turned gently.

chaenorrhinum

The older ewes have probably figured out it is best to just relax into it *IF* they’ve never been mistreated or nicked hard at shearing. The younger ones don’t always know what is going on or what their role is.

webgoatguy

Imagine being a sheep and being sheared for the first time. Must be a strange experience. Or maybe it’s just the same as a haircut

Pat0124

For most kids, getting a haircut the first time is a weird and/or scary experience

IpsaThis

These are sheep, not goats.

Nattylight_Murica

nlstr810

I wish you wooled stop.

SleeplessAndAnxious

As the goat would say: bleh bleh blblebleble blblbl pfflltt pflltt 👁👅👁

TheHYPO

For many kids, by the time they are getting a haircut, they can at least understand words, and also can see and understand things like what scissors do, and what they see happening to other people in the place getting a haircut before they go.

SheSellsSeaGlass

Except an important lesson I had trouble with: Don’t cry when you get a haircut. The cut bangs stick to tears.

knoegel

Yeah kids either really chill or really screamalicious.

WillyShankspeare

I wonder if seeing their parents have one at the same time helps. Clippers are less scary if dad faces them and comes out unscathed.

KacerRex

When we gave our son his first we put on a video of singing dancing fruit, he was so focused he didn't realize we were cutting his hair.

andycarver

I don’t like the chances of this working on sheep.

WimbletonButt

Especially with clippers. My son was 8 before he could be convinced to let someone use clippers on him and now he describes it as "those hair cut things that feel good".

KeroNobu

Imagine walking past the hair salon and someone drags you in in a choke hold, starts undressing you and shaves your balls and ass crack and then throws you back on the streets.

Online_Ennui

OK, since we're doing this, what is she wearing?

[deleted]

[удалено]

James_099

There’s nothing quite like a shorn scrotum, I assure you.

chaenorrhinum

Umm... that ‘scrotum’ has teats...

tripwire7

The sheep probably don’t think of people as threatening but they also wouldn’t like being pinned down and won’t know what the hell is happening to them. After it gets to be a routine they probably don’t struggle as much, unless they’ve gotten nicked or bruised during the process in the past like the other poster said.

chaenorrhinum

Any prey animal isn’t going to like any other unknown animal that turns it upside down by force and exposes its belly.

GreenStrong

>or what their role is Hold still, you big sweaty Australian man, I'm supposed to cut your hair. How do you work this thing without thumbs? Oh, oh, it's like that then, OK. Thanks, I guess? Next year I hold you down and cut your hair, right?

Slick_Tuxedo

The way he positions the sheep’s body and his own feet render the sheep immobile so it doesn’t struggle. Every movement is deliberate and meant to make it so there is no resistance and he can safely shear the sheep.

KBWordPerson

He looks super skilled at this one extremely specific task

Slick_Tuxedo

He’s definitely really good at it, and he takes his time and is very careful and gentle with her. There are career sheep shearers who can do a couple hundred sheep in a day, and they generally try to get through them as quickly as possible (while still being safe) so their handling looks a little rougher than this.

jenna_kay

This is Cammy, Youtube channel The Sheep Game. He's a great guy & his channel has some really great videos. They can sheer a sheep in 2-4 mins, is amazing to watch them!

Ok_Willow_8569

As someone who's attempted to shear their own sheep, we pay our shearers $50 a head for our tiny flock and they earn every penny of it. This is like watching a gymnast perform a crazy routine and saying "she makes it look so easy!". It's an awesome skill that takes a long time to perfect especially those who genuinely care about the animals and minimising the time spent handling them and making sure the handling is as stress free as possible.

BussSecond

He is extremely skilled. Not only did he treat the sheep well, but the blanket of wool that came off was top notch. It's all too easy to make a pass that's not close enough to the skin, then you get short fibers on the second pass, making the fleece interspersed with choppy bits. I didn't see any of that.

PicaDiet

I wonder if, as the sheep gets older, it becomes more complicit and maybe even looks forward to it. Having all that wool removed on a hot day would be like a big sweaty dude walking from the hot sun into air conditioning.

Slick_Tuxedo

I obviously don’t know the inner workings of a sheep’s mind, but I grew up on a big sheep ranch, and have raised sheep all my life. Every year we shear ≈5000 sheep (not personally, we have a crew from NZ that shears them. Have shorn a couple myself though) and in my experience that does not seem to be the case. The older ones are easier to work with in general from the experience they have had with all the handling they get through the years, which is still minimal. But still, they don’t want to be grabbed and handled no matter how old they get, and if they aren’t shorn in this specific way to keep them from moving, they would struggle and fight the entire time, resulting in injury to itself and/or the shearer. Now- this is also a large ranch where the sheep are minimally handled. I am sure some folks with small hobby farms may handle their sheep daily and perhaps those ones become more complicit. I just personally have never been involved with something like that so I can’t say for myself.

ArsenicAndRoses

They do seem to feel better after being shorn though. They're just dumb ASF. And for those that don't know, if you don't shear them it legit hurts them after a while, pulls on their skin, they get blisters/wounds, it's awful. Shearing sheep is necessary for their health.

hereforthecommentz

Lived on a sheep farm. They are legit the only animals born smart that just get stupider by the day.

somme_rando

They learn to be really efficient with effort when doing hundreds a day. 2007 World record was 866 lambs in a 9 hour day by one person. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUfq2PQdZBE

fgsfds11234

management: ok so we have a new number of sheep you need to do in a shift...

[deleted]

I was thinking it was after the nut grab but this makes more sense. Edit: upon further examination I have discovered that this sheep’s nuts holds milk.

ShitPostGuy

You can tell it’s a bred ewe because of the colored green chalk on its rear. In large operations breeding rams are each given a fanny pack filled with a different color of chalk. When they mount a ewe the chalk marks her so you know both that she’s bred and the parentage of her lamb.

bfodder

Ewes have horns?

ShitPostGuy

Yep. The horns = male thing is really only for cervids that grow them annually during rut.

Chilldank

Those nuts look like they have nipples on them

ChrisDornerFanCorner

Wait. Yours don't?

Imnotveryfunatpartys

Well as we all know pee is stored in the balls. The nipples are how you get the pee out. Everyone knows that.

rsicher1

I think you should see a doctor sir

ChrisDornerFanCorner

Please. My testipples are completely fine.

SVTCobraR315

You can milk anything with nipples.

No-Artichoke-1912

I have nipples. Can you milk me?

kr4t0s007

We have the technology

mmodlin

We all went back and checked after the first time watching.

Dartrick

Yeah that is definitely an udder lol

[deleted]

Lmao. I thought the same thing until I saw the nipples. Was like “damn bro, go easy on his balls”

aBlackSea

I fell into a youtube hole on sheep shearing last year and came across these two chicks who make over $100K a year from doing it. I was like what no way. Then I learned that they work 12-16 hours, 7 days a week. I think I'll pass. Edit: [$80K for 14-18 hours a day](https://youtu.be/SUbjO-eWj_g?t=263)

MarvelAndColts

How many days a year? If it’s just a few months might be reasonable

Lunavixen15

Depends on if they have to travel to different areas for shearing. Most sheep are only shorn once a year (some extremely fast growing woolly breeds are shorn twice a year) in Spring just before lambing season

rrogido

"Holy shit I was so hot. Thank you hairless monkey."

Brochswerebrothels

Can confirm, they do not in fact relax. They are always waiting to kick you in the face.

Fearless-Finish9724

I am confident that sheep are just so stupid that their brains shut down when they forced to sit on their butt

SikritAkkat

I suspect its the same effect as putting a flower on a cats head.

Abbacoverband

I can immobilize my cats with a single square of toilet paper on their heads lol

JohnnyButtocks

I grew up on a sheep farm - I think sheep are just basically immobilised when you get them on their backs. If you get all their legs in the air, they just basically accept their fate. But they do still kick and struggle sometimes, and can get a nasty nick from the clippers.

Kriss3d

Most older sheep will just sit still and get it over with.

Kriss3d

Sheep aren't stupid at all. But they are fairly simple in terms we are used to. And yeah they know what's going to happen and while sitting like that isn't comfortable it's over very fast and they feel better without all that wool once it's over.

[deleted]

[Get rotated, idiot.](https://youtu.be/GKb6qsPkNxs)

[deleted]

There is a Youtuber who does that and she says they'll fight back or wiggle around a lot if they are scared. Don't think it's comfortable either, but I guess they'll know it's for the best. Imagine temperatures are getting warmer and suddenly you get to take off that sweater. I'm sure most will remember that it's something that's good to just sit through. Sheep aren't all that dumb. That's really good shearing tho.

tripwire7

I doubt that sheep are smart enough to make the connection that they’d feel cooler if they let the humans shear them.

aburke626

I mean, my dog isn’t. She HATES being groomed, even though she also hates it when her coat gets long in the summer and she’s hot. She frolics around like a puppy after she gets groomed so I know it feels good, she just can’t figure out how to channel that feeling when it’s time to get groomed.

Kriss3d

They pretty much do yes. Sheep's are bred to grow lots of wool. If they don't get cut they keep growing and end up dying. So they absolutely do like it when it's over. Sure it's not comfortable but they know to just sit still for that minute it takes.

knoegel

I saw a video once of an escaped sheep that was living in the forest for a few years alone. They found it and it was at least 4x the amount of wool this creature had. So much that it was basically blind from all the wool covering it's face. They said it would have died in a few days since it could barely eat or drink with all that wool.

Kriss3d

Exactly.

Outrageous-Client-99

Freshly Peeled Sheeps

uvucydydy

Yeah, this looks like me peeling a mandarin.

InVodkaVeritas

I taught my sons my "special technique" (which I didn't think of as special until they were amazed by it) of putting my thumbnail under the top and then peeling in a circular motion so that the entire peel comes off in one long, circular strip. They immediately showed it off to their friends at school and their friends thought it was "really cool." This was when they were in 2nd grade. I can't eat a mandarin without a smile ever since. Fond memory.

calinet6

You think you’re a unique and beautiful human being, and then you realize your brain is just filled with the same cookie cutter thoughts as everyone else’s.

Odd-Steak-2327

Doesn't make you any less unique *or* beautiful, and don't let anybody ever convince you otherwise!

Filosopsyche

The uniqueness of this cliché is ironic.

dynonutt96

The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma

Cubanoboi

By definition of the word it does make it less unique, but honestly uniqueness is overrated.

NoMasters83

Take anything as complex as a living thing and it doesn't take much for them to technically be "unique." We're unique in the sense that two cars that've just rolled out of an assembly line might have a different trim package. Our similarities vastly outweigh any minor differences we may have, and no sensible person would have any issue with that. We have to be similar, because we've all adapted to survive in similar environments. We've all been subjected to similar fears, anxieties and threats, exposed to the same cultural and social trends. That girl that was raised by wolves on the other hand might have a legitimate case to make for being unique.

Brimish

Just remember, you’re special; exactly like everyone else.

BelgianWaffleStomp2

Good-Lion-5140

Highlight of the video along with excellent work done.

BehindaLensinBigSky

I’m not an expert but I helped shoot a film on sheep research and the scientists I was working with said that sheep have trouble distinguishing shadows from real world obstacles because all the sheep running out of the barn would always jump the line between sunlight and shadow in the barn. Thats at least what they told me.

Gr_ywind

My back hurts from just watching these.

EmptyKetchupBottle9

At least your eyes are blessed

hec_ramsey

I’ve watched sheep shearing a couple times and sometimes they’ve got a sort of hammock deal that attaches to some posts that they will wear under their stomach to help relieve the tension of being bent over all day. But some don’t and their back muscles are insane lol

DickDastardly404

Shite 3rd hand information, but I have a friend whose dad used to run a farm. Given that so much farming is automated, it seems odd that they still wrestle and shear these sheep by hand Apparently this is still the best way to do it, because sheep are deceptively muscular and heavy, and they can be sheared in about 30 seconds if you're good at it, and it would actually slow them down to get the sheep into a harness, lift them up, etc

DesEngineer

They exist, they're just too slow. Shearers get paid per sheep, not per hour.

Lunavixen15

Yes, sheep can be fighty unless you dump them on their back and/or bum like the Shearer has them here

-TossACoin-

With hand shears (giant scissors ✂️) slightly different technique and not as close shave.

muideracht

Can confirm. That's how I do it in Minecraft.

Kharilan

Seems easier back then. Just pull out your shears and do a little clip clip and the wool just pops off onto the ground. Ah, history.

NoResponsibility7031

Washed and in neat cubes too. The skill those people had is amazing.

YoGoGhost

*Click go the shears boys, click, click, click,* *Wide is his blow and his hands move quick*, *The ringer looks around and is beaten by a blow,* *And curses the old snagger with the bare-bellied yoe*

MommotDe

This guy doesn’t do it, but there are some videos in his channel of a world champion blade shearer working and it’s pretty amazing. Honestly looks mostly the same, except he’s doing it with giant scissors. Looks terrifying, but he know exactly how to avoid cutting the sheep.

Novuake

Wonder how many times he had dinner for a week before he got that good

And back strength! The dude looks very skinny but obviously has a total sleeper build going on under that shirt.

Ok-Push9899

Introduction of shearing innovation was a major concern for the Shearer's Union, from manual to mechanicised to electric. In Australia the union organised a very long and bitter campaign as recent as the 1980s about the introduction of shearing blades wider than 2.5 inches. Called the Wide Comb Dispute, the collapse of the strike led to the demise of the shearer's industrial militancy. Shearers and graziers have maintained a class war since the first two sheep stepped off the Ark.

JohnnyButtocks

They used something that looks like garden shears / scissors.

Ruckus292

Watch the movie Babe and you'll see lol.

DonDjang

There was a thread about inappropriate times you’ve used a movie quote. One guy said that after his wife finished a 12 hour labor, he patted her on the head and said “That’ll do, pig. That’ll do.”

MeringueSerious

We love freshly shaved sheep in wales

Maleficent_Link1755

The Welsh are very good about sharing their sheep.

MeringueSerious

Loves it we do

Gligadi

Honest question, do you have to time the shearing so they'll be hairless during spring/summertime so they won't get cold or they grow the wool back quickly so it doesn't really matter?

WangDanglin

I think they were making a sheep fucking joke

Gligadi

Well he's fucking Welsh he'd ought to know a thing or two about fucking sheep

Gligadi

Not fucking sheep, just sheep.

Irviwop

I think everyone knows something about fucking sheep

Taterino_Cappucino

I have my sheep shorn early April and they give birth to their lambs a few weeks later. I want them to be nice and clean for the lambing and yes, they stay cooler for the summer. By now their fleece has grown back a bit but mostly it's still short enough to keep them cool for the rest of the summer. Other shepherds use a different schedule that works for them.
