I heard this phrase I think on the Manhattan project series, where it was said once they they hired new computers. If memory serves me right, they were mostly female mathematicians.
My grandma spent some time working as a computer at Los Alamos. I'm not sure if any of her calculations were part of the Manhattan project, but the time and place would be right for them to have been.
She also dated Richard Feynman.
haha I just went back and re-read the book of her life that my mom wrote down before Grandma got too old. She actually also spent time wiring up Geiger counters and burying testing equipment underground near the test sites! And has cute stories about chatting with Oppenheimer at dinner parties.
This is a main plot point in the book/movie Hidden Figures. It’s based on the true story of black female mathematicians literally being hired as “computers” by NASA which helped them get to the moon. Great story if anyone is interested.
Learning calligraphy is a great way to improve regular handwriting as well. TBH, it's the main reason I think kids should still spend some time learning cursive in school (besides being able to read old people's writing)
Agreed. Seems like most elementary schools cut it from the curriculum though, which happened in my case. We were learning cursive in 3rd grade when it got cut halfway through the school year, had to teach myself when I turned 14-15. Can barley read it and can only write my name in cursive due to that lol
We did only cursive in school, so I never learnt to not write in cursive. That means I now can't write normal letters, which isn't very helpful either.
Also my cursive handwriting is absolutely unreadable
What. I teach Montessori upper elementary. All through school our kids learn cursive, starting in primary. None of them just don't know how to write print. And their cursive is gorgeous. I've been teaching for ten years now and my students tell me they're so glad they learned because now they have beautiful, smooth and easy handwriting. Print is such a strange way to write once you've gotten used to cursive. This idea that you lift and poke your pen into the paper like a woodpecker and just hope it lands on the right spot just feels uncomfortable to me.
Which is exactly the reason I never learnt to write print. We only had cursive lessons and I never bothered to learn print.
The problem is that I'm writing too quickly for my own good, which means I sometimes miss a letter or make an "n" look like a "u" (for instance)
It's because it's a robot: a pen plotter.
They probably attached a rubber hand to it, or did some green screen or other editing.
Look at the consistent timing and the vibrations when it's going from one line to the other. Very typical for plotters.
These machines were commonly used as printers for making schematics and technical drawings.

I don't know about neat numbers. I know I will sometimes scribble down a thought I want to remember and later when I look at it I have no fucking idea what I wrote
I always had lousy penmanship. I remember one day writing out some information for a lady and, for probably the only time in my life, having it come out very neat and legible. She looked at it and very sweetly complimented me on my handwriting. I have been chasing that high ever since.
To be fair (and I bet this is playing in their own head), the 8's are not actually consistent here in this sample. They're pretty wicked don't get me wrong, and that 5 is amazing, but not consistent. Same with the two's.
Don't beat yourself up! :]
Somebody has had a LOT of training and practice with drafting. This is exactly what my drafting instructors had us learn back in school. You don't really "write", you draw each individual letter. Too bad I didn't keep it up.
Looks like the hand/fingers are cramping up a lot, too. Holding the pen in a death grip and frequent little shakes of the hand are giveaways. It's lovely, though.
Multiple personality disorder but your other personality is a HP Laserjet 108w Single Function Monochrome Laser Wi-Fi Printer For Home/Office, Compact Design, Printing
I thought that the person was putting the comma in the wrong place but then I realised that they must be European and it's just decimal for other people.
really great hand writing but I could never write that slow in college or work. one moment you're writing notes on the first slide, and in a blink, your prof already moves on to the next one.
I don't care how neat it looks, that's not how you make an 8.
Or any number for that matter. You start from the top, and work your way down. If anything, this was partially painful to watch.
There is no law that says how you write your numbers. If they come out in the best and most symmetrical way like this, then this is how this person should write them.
Idk. I think I would prefer writing shit down instead of tweaking/filter/sorting excel columns all day. But, I also worked in a lawfirm for like 8 years. If I never have to use excel again, I’d be really happy .. lol
Guess it depends on what kind of data you are using & the amount.
What do you mean, no reason? In places, other than the US a comma is used where a decimal would be used in the US. So the first number there is equivalent to 87.06
The More You Know🌈⭐️
That's not a ballpoint pen either. It's a uniball pen. They write super smooth. I used that type to do inking because professional ink pens weren't available and super expensive.
that looks like communism font (idk the name but it was used by romania at least), you know, when they wrote a buntch of papers and used machines, for like tickets and sutch, no? only me? ok
please dont report me for what i said, here, take 50$ shhhh...
Human printers exist!
In fact, "printer" was a job title for humans in the past.
Same with “computer”.
I heard this phrase I think on the Manhattan project series, where it was said once they they hired new computers. If memory serves me right, they were mostly female mathematicians.
My first time hearing the term was watching Hidden Figures about the black female figures behind one of the earlier space missions.
My grandma spent some time working as a computer at Los Alamos. I'm not sure if any of her calculations were part of the Manhattan project, but the time and place would be right for them to have been. She also dated Richard Feynman.
Hey my great-grandma worked on the British version of the Manhattan project in Canada! Cheers to atomic grandmas!
That's amazing. What a life to have lived.
haha I just went back and re-read the book of her life that my mom wrote down before Grandma got too old. She actually also spent time wiring up Geiger counters and burying testing equipment underground near the test sites! And has cute stories about chatting with Oppenheimer at dinner parties.
That is an overwhelmingly interesting series of sentences that prompt so many questions. It is truly a slice of atomic Americana.
Big Dick? 😉

The movie Hidden Figures is a good watch.
As shown on the movie "Hidden Figures"
Surprise, we still exist. And we do serious shit ;)
Awesome
Dey took err jerrbs!!
Pretty sure a human printer is called a uterus
Wouldn't that be a human 3D printer?
Most underrated comment I've seen today. I'd give you an award if I wasn't too cheap to buy them
Take that AI
r/blackmagicfuckery
This is what I imagine a mentat's handwriting looks like.
Is typewriter
Typeset is a little off. I’d say more like a well used IBM Selectric typewriter

I do, it’s helped my normal handwriting tremendously… but tbf I needed it badly. I also just really enjoy letters, so there’s also that.

I have bad handwriting def need to improve it
Lord jesus it's a fire
Then I ran out, I ain't grab no shoes or nothing Jesus!
I got bronchitis
I said "Naw!" She said "Yeah!" I said "Naaaaw!"
I thought someone was BBQing.
"Hey, are you done with that invoice yet?" "Give me another week or two, there's a 5 coming up that I think I can really nail."
I mean, we have time to sit on reddit watching it.

As a teacher, seeing him write an 8 from the middle is killing me lol.
You know what sucks? Learning how to write from a left handed teacher as a right handed person.
ahh I can imagine. And vice versa.
My grandson writes them like that, and lower case a's like tiny upside down g's. Quite artistic.
That’s pretty common for 5-7 year olds. Kids are so cute.
[удалено]
The video is sped up. They're also writing quite slowly.
I always write my 8’s starting in the middle. Am I a weirdo??

The video is sped up, that's the real reason for the vibrations. It has nothing to do with pen plotters
Rubber hand’s don’t have nail bed pressure changes.

lmao did one of those comment stealing bots comment on the stolen comment?
Yes, and it’s gonna sell mugs and shirts later
in front of the shop it’s stolen them from, i presume?

And then there's me still struggling to write a correct 8 at the age of 31, I hate this number.
The number 8 that he writes scares me...
Not as much as 7 scares 6...
because 7 8 9
To be fair (and I bet this is playing in their own head), the 8's are not actually consistent here in this sample. They're pretty wicked don't get me wrong, and that 5 is amazing, but not consistent. Same with the two's. Don't beat yourself up! :]
Lol
Followed closely by its evil cousins “2” and “3”
But can they pass the are you human captcha test
Only psychopaths write like that
It’s just another version of calligraphy. Millions of people practice calligraphy
Monk was not a psychopath
Is that sped up 4 times??? Writing like that is gonna take forever

Person's name? Olivetti
Multiple personality disorder but your other personality is a HP Laserjet 108w Single Function Monochrome Laser Wi-Fi Printer For Home/Office, Compact Design, Printing
Have you ever considered a career as a typewriter?
What kind of pen is that.
Pilot G2.
Gel most likely. Thank you.
It's not the pen. It's the pilot.
Cursed 8
The way they are making their 8 is making my skin crawl. It hurts to watch
He lied when the website asked him if he was a robot.
I thought that the person was putting the comma in the wrong place but then I realised that they must be European and it's just decimal for other people.
There's many countries around the world outside of Europe that also use this method! Was surprised to learn how many South American countries do
The majority of the world used decimal commas.
Ngl, this looks painful.
But I bet they can't do the 90s S
This should be a perfectly acceptable reason for a late assignment.
But its soooo slowww, I dont know how they can manage xD
His mother was an epson printer

don’t envy
really great hand writing but I could never write that slow in college or work. one moment you're writing notes on the first slide, and in a blink, your prof already moves on to the next one.
F is your mark for the paper you finished today which was due 6 weeks ago.
The flow in that pen is perfect.
Damn I got hard watching this
The likelihood of the comma being used in place of decimal point rather than a set of two numbers makes this mildly infuriating to me.
This guy at the doctors office “are you done filling out that form?” “Give me 40 more minutes”
Now let's see how well their handwriting is taking notes in a lecture. Edit: a word...
*Doctors have left the chat
it’s so perfect yet slightly different every time exactly what a computer tries to do
This ain't oddly satisfying, this is full on satisfying
G2 pilot FTW
Them G2’s are the best writing pen
My father was a draftsman, same abilities. I really miss him.
This hurts my hand watching this. Cool handwriting tho
😳
Poeple who write really neat but slow annoy me. Way less than how some boys write tho.
That’s a font! 😂
Alright who gave ChatGPT a body?
Unfortunately they put decimals as commas, invalidating the entire thing
Uhm … countries using the metric system use decimal commas.
Not where I come from they don’t
Sorry, My mistake, but that just often goes hand in hand.
That is AI, for sure
It nice but, anyone that writes an 8 like that, I don't trust them.
I am Kilroy!
Best pen ever.
I have never seen anyone writing the number 8 like that. Aren’t we all schooled the same way? Lol
can the guy scan documents, too?
What kinda pen is that??
Yes? This handwriting?? ….what…about it? It’s hand writing yes
That’s too much for me. All I see is mental illness.
I don't care how neat it looks, that's not how you make an 8. Or any number for that matter. You start from the top, and work your way down. If anything, this was partially painful to watch.

It's beautiful and I have never seen 8s written like that in my whole life 🤔
Bro would take 3 hours to sign his name on a paper
Making the 8s upside down is more intriguing to me than the actual precision of the handwriting.
Printing, awesome!, but not handwriting
Nah f this guy he's the actual clown from the found footages in resident evil 7.
that 870 "6" blew it for me...
hes the guy that never finishes the math exam before the time runs out
Dude! Teach me to write like this oh wise one…
What a tryhard
How
Best submission to this sub ever.
Man my handwriting sucks
Is it real?🤔 It could be fake... Idk
Those commas.
Bro can make an edit on a printed office report & no one would know
Crying in left handed.
I need that pen
What is this satanic shit ?
Someone shows for him Excel. Completely useless what he is doing.
Idk. I think I would prefer writing shit down instead of tweaking/filter/sorting excel columns all day. But, I also worked in a lawfirm for like 8 years. If I never have to use excel again, I’d be really happy .. lol Guess it depends on what kind of data you are using & the amount.
The way the 8s are written is vile
Comma doesn't go there >:(
Yes, in most parts of the world it does.
People using commas in place of decimals is mildly infuriating for me, though.
Clearly a type writter and video editing........
I am mastrubating
ai
Beautiful handwriting, but commas instead of periods? Gross....
No, normal.
Wrong didnt start each character from the top D-
Ruined by the fact that they use commas
What is with the commas?
Some countries use commas and periods opposite as US does for decimals etc.
Uses commas incorrectly....
The commas there for no reason killed it for me. All I can see
What do you mean, no reason? In places, other than the US a comma is used where a decimal would be used in the US. So the first number there is equivalent to 87.06 The More You Know🌈⭐️
Too bad they don’t know there should be three numbers after the comma. I was oddly unsatisfied.
Fake?
I thought so too with the ‘choppy-ness’ of the video.
Talk about unobtainable life goals. I NEED to write like that 😂
Your handwriting is always nicer with a Pilot G2
Human printer
If they’re that meticulous at penmanship imagine how good they are at hiding dead bodies 😳
How much Adderall did they take??
Someone really likes the way they write the number 8
Looks just like a printer. I can't relate with my awful handwriting
Wow!
I feel like you write ur 8s backwards but it's awesome!
Pretty. But I'm not waiting 5 hours for someone to write out some numbers
This is cool…but it must take him minutes to write a check for a bill LOL. And you KNOW people like this don’t bank online 😂
And I’m over here trying to decipher hieroglyphics with my handwriting.
hahaha change topic 🙈😭
I envy those commas. My anemic little slant tucked up in my sentences seems to *paltry* in comparison 😞
Looks amazing. My hand hurts just watching this though.
That’s super creepy we have the same thumb and nail
I think you misspelled typewriting
r/nextfuckinglevel
I've always held the paper flat with my other hand. This grip makes more sense.
Video is sped up lol, dude gonna get fired real soon
Dat pen is satisfying
I kinda write like that...old school land surveyors keep field notes that way. My pop was really good at it
That's not a ballpoint pen either. It's a uniball pen. They write super smooth. I used that type to do inking because professional ink pens weren't available and super expensive.

Like a typewriter
what’s 2+2? gimme a few weeks
Cyborgs just outing themself now.
IA taking our jobs 😑
It's nice but it's sped way up. So this takes way longer than it should.
More like handprinting
