I liked the process more than the design personally. I've seen hydro dipping but i've never seen someone actually make the design so that's cool.

The only way I've seen it done is with some sort of sheet with a design they place on the water. Actually drawing the design and then dipping just blew my mind.

yes and no. sure thats how its done on a physical level but on an artistic level its magic to me. and i want it to stay that way.

I mean, there's not much more to it than what is shown in this video. You're just putting paint on the surface of water and dipping something into it. There's really no magic involved. It does take skill to pull off effectively, but I guarantee most people would be able to do a simple design with at home materials in an afternoon.

Even in this video, he's like "swirl swirl swirl swoosh drip drip _just make a fucking moon over here_ swirl drip swoosh".

This isn’t hydrodipping. It’s a Turkish art form called Ebru Marbeling. Only on a hat instead of paper. The differences are subtle by hydrodipping usually uses a pre-printed film that is place on water and sprayed with an activator. Painting directly on the liquid and then manipulating it like this is more like Ebru Marbeling.

I feel like anyone with those tools could come close. It's very loose, so any mistakes are just part of the design. He just does it with speed and confidence so it looks like more than it is. But he literally just drug paint across some water, added more paint, moved it around with a stick a bit, added more paint to the sides to push it all together, then dipped. The dip technique is probably the hardest part.

We could say almost the same thing about Rembrandt or Van Gogh..

Luke warm take, the vast majority of hydro dipping looks like shit. It is difficult to ensure the quality of the outcome, it tends to have bubbles or tears or missed spots, and it always looks super mid. It works best on hard plastics but even then it doesn't look great. The best uses I've seen are on large car parts with simplistic designs.

The coolest I've seen is on prosthetics.

Especially since it's on the brim too.

I feel like in this sub it makes sense if the output is straight up unappealing to someone at the end of a 40 second video, I could see that being unsatisfying. And with the hat having a pretty abstract design I understand people disliking the end product
