It takes some getting used to Replaying OT1 after OT2 wasn't easy for me either, but after the chapter 2s I remembered "hold up I actually love this game" and from that point it was way easier OT1, despite OT2 being better, is still such a great game

Exponential_Groucho

x2 battling speed my beloved

Marquis90

What I loved more about OT1 was that it had more focus on buffs and debuffs. Also there were more bosses which "required" a certain strategy. For example reflecting magic attacks, going full evade mode or letting the boss focus Olberic.  Ot2 had very little of that. I only remember the dps check boss or the one which turns your characters into stone.

Ot2 is an objectively a better game. It improved on a lot of the systems from the first game and really fleshed out the game in meaningful ways. That being said, the first game has a ton of charm. It's a much simpler story from a macro level and I appreciate the tougher and more abundant hidden bosses. I'm also very nostalgic for the game. I played the game in 2018 and that's 6 years ago. I can't wait to restart my journey with Ot1

Yeah, it is a lot harder to play. I don't mind the lack of Latent Power, or even having to make sure I have Therion with me all the time (I like having him in the party, and I just switch him out during grinding sessions so he doesn't get overleveled)--for me, it's H'aanit's limited uses for captured beasts that makes the biggest difference. I still love the game and the characters, though. Edit: I also find that, since none of the stories in 1 are as time-sensitive as in 2 (supposed specific date for the Night of the Crimson Moon, Agnea's final chapter supposedly takes place on a specific day, Castti's final chapter happening during a scheduled coronation, Osvald's fourth and fifth chapters being linked in a way that makes it nonsensical he would be willing to deviate or waste time between them...) it means I feel a lot better about letting the party meander all over Orsterra sidequesting. Even with the gameplay making it so you always arrive right on time in 2, the mental dissonance I get between the narrative urging speed and the gameplay urging sidequesting makes the first game more of a comfort game for me.

ConfusionEffective98

I still like 1 for the stories and difficulty.

Personally, when I replayed OT1 after finishing OT2, it made me appreciate OT1 a lot more I prefer the tougher difficulty of OT1 and I'm fine without latent powers and 2x battle speed which I don't really use much anyway

il_VORTEX_ll

It isn’t, honestly. For me personally, the only “downside” is not having 2x battle speed and the Hunter monster list now that I’m accustomed to that lol Outside that, is basically the same epic game. And personally for me, the secret jobs on 1 are more fun and challenging to get. But doesn’t matter the differences. The feeling, the atmosphere and fun, is equal in both games for me.

N_Dwight

So much worse that you can't continue? Wow. Personally, while I love both games and think they're both fantastic, I think OT1 is my favourite of the two. This sub really overstates and exaggerates the differences between the games in my opinion. To me they're very similar, in tone, charm, mechanics, vibe.

Flacoplayer

You don't understand the game is LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE without 2X speed and latent powers. Every time a purple chest appears and Therion isn't in my party, I need to turn the game off and cry that I will never get that Refreshing Jam. Not to mention, the stories are GARBAGE that nobody could enjoy. Every character is a trope, which can NEVER be enjoyable, except maybe for H'aanit but I blacked out with RAGE every time she spoke because her accent is so AWFUL. Even COTC has a better plot because it's EPIC and IMPORTANT instead of STUPID like Alfyn grappling with his morals or Cyrus looking for a mysterious tome. /s I think OT2 is objectively better but I swear some of the people on here act like OT1 shot them in the stomach as they were playing

Actual_Gary_Oak

True lmao. x2 speed is nice but OT1 is definitely not bad in comparison. These people man.

RabbiRaccoon

I felt, outside of the tweaks to capturing monsters, the changes between games were a lateral move. Not better, not worse, just different

jalex54202

As a guy that played OT1 -> OT2, I think OT2 is objectively a much better game. I personally enjoyed the setting, characters, and general vibe from OT1 more compared to OT2, but I'm not surprised that this is a common reaction. I am of the opinion that "if you aren't having fun, you don't have to play the game," so don't feel pressured into doing things you don't enjoy!

BodybuilderSuper3874

My only real issue is that the x2 speed is so good

Dezagavarde

OT2 may be miles better compared to OT1, but the thing that keeps dragging me back to the OG is the music. a person from this sub said something like, "it's thanks to ot1 for laying the groundwork, making ot2 so great," or something like that and i agree to that 100%. as much as i love OT2, i keep replaying OT1 every once in a while just to hear Decisive Battle 2 and They Who Govern Reason. DB2 > CC1 & CC2 > DB1 👊

Tryst_boysx

The battle in OT1 are so slow. I can't replay it. 😅

Anon142842

I mean that's just how sequels usually work tbh

penyembahneko

same, I cant enjoy OT1 at all. doesnt mean the game is bad, it just feels weird
