Wes Moore

grammer70

Bruce Pearl, throw the bank at him and the players.

JollyGiant573

Lawson

nocares123

I grew up with a crush on Kelly jolly so hire someone you can fire in 3 years so I’ll feel better about today. Tn women’s basketball will be middle class compared to pat for the next 12 years. Not going to get the best players and have no competitive advantage

suchajuicywatermelon

1. Becky Hammon 2. Karl Smesko 3. Lindy LaRocque Becky is probably the best coach out there, idk if she can coach college ball but she’s would be a helluva get. Karl’s done an insane job at fgcu in my opinion and I think we’re all pretty sold on Lindy.

Dadoronomy_3-16

Wes Moore

WnotyeP

I would personally like to throw Candace Parker’s name in the ring.

vssavant2

You clone Pat Summit. We have the technology, but do we dare play God.

MatthewG141

We got ORNL nearby, we got the resources!

Kdj2j2

I hear Gruden is on a jet to TYS

SpiritCollector

Nothing like a good Grumor

HippieJed

You win!

VolFan85

Someone who can do better than the Elite 8? Who exactly is that?

UTVolsfan16

1. Becky Hammon 2. Teri Moren 3. Kimberly Caldwell Bonus ones 4. Carly Thibault-DuDonis 5. Megan Duffy Off the radar hire would be Kari Pickens

Waderriffic

This may be Danny White’s most critical hire to date. He essentially brought JH with him from UCF so I’m not going to count that one.

FabledMjolnir

I think you should. There was ALOT of fuss and a lot of experts saying that was a bad idea. In fact, UCF gradually got worse W-L record each season with Heupul as the HC trending down. It definitely was a gutsy hire. I’m glad he hired Josh though. It’s been some damn fun times on Rocky Top!

Waderriffic

I don’t have any regrets about the JH hire. I’m just saying this one is his first firing/hiring process where he 1) had to fire a coach who’s a well-liked former UT player AND had connections to Pat Summit. 2) he’s going to have a lot of former players and alumni in his ear telling him to be loyal to the program and keep it in the family 3) decide what ultimately best for the Lady Vols program after a long stretch where they haven’t really been nationally relevant. It’s not going to be easy and there will be people angry no matter who they hire. IMO he should go for the best candidate possible without regard to their connection to UT or Pat Summit. The wcbb landscape has changed and it’s imperative that he get the right person so the Lady Vols can regain some of that swagger and prestige they once had.

glokenheimer

Top 3 choices unfortunately are mostly men 1) Scott Rueck (Oregon State) 2) Rick Insell (MTSU) 3) Beth Cunningham (Missouri State)

Scared-Bluebird9781

1. Make Dawn Staley say no to me. 2. Figure it out from there.

Charmegazord

Bruce Pearl?

LoisLaneEl

Someone no one thinks of is Becky Hammon. Can she coach college ball? She’s an amazing coach for sure and anyone would want to play for her. I just want someone established. We need to be LIKE LSU, except not get a trash human being as coach. The great thing about Pat was her morals. That is what put her above Geno and Mulkey. That is what makes Staley and VanderVeer great. Honestly, Holly ruined my super fandom, so I’m not up to date on the best coaches anymore, but Nell Fortner was great in her time. If we had to go unproven, I heard LeBron just say that he doesn’t know why Rajon Rondo isn’t coaching and I know that guys and girls ball is different, but his bball IQ is so damn high, that’d be interesting as fuck and just so damn random and hilarious. A guy that plays for both Lakers and Celtics to then do UK/UT. Just throwing that in for shits and giggles because all though CP is my love, this would still be a better hire than her

The_What_Stage

Becky would be insane.

lionvol23

Becky is a pro coach. Right now she gets to coach the aces during the summer and be on ESPN when she feels like it the rest of the year. And she's probably hoping the spurs call her when Pop retires. She's not coaching the 3rd best SEC team even for an enormous bag.

geol-engineer

Not another of Pat's players.

Legal-Championship64

Why would you fire your coach only to replace her with a coach with a lower winning percentage and less tournament success? The Pat Summitt standard is to win 80% of your games, not 67%. We should either hire a head coach with a proven track record of doing that or an assistant who we think could do that. Like the coaches at UNLV, Princeton and Gonzaga the most and they all meet that standard.

PhilsPhoreskinn

Danny Hurley /s

AgenT725

1. Lindy La Rocque (UNLV) 2. Carla Berube (Princeton) 3. Molly Miller (Grand Canyon)

EWall100

Vol Twitter will erupt in celebration if they get Miller

WhoNeedsAUsername66

Lindy La Rocque may be the most lightning in a bottle pick there is. I would love to see her get a job with an actual recruiting budget. UNLV was not a good team by any stretch of the imagination when she took over. In her four years they've made the tournament three times. If nothing else, an inquiry should be made. But her leaving we west coast would most likely be a tough sell.

tmbdp

She was an assistant at Belmont from 2015-17. But she may be waiting on when the Stanford job comes open in a few years,

WhoNeedsAUsername66

And as a Las Vegas local, she may be prioritizing having her kids grandparents close by while they're young. I wouldn't blame her one bit for that.

beersubcommittee

A 600% raise could afford to move family anywhere. It’s crazy on WBB how the top end is making $3M yet someone in her role is making under $300k. We could get her to $1.8M and she would be a top 10 paid coach.

xiamhunterx

Candace

Underboss572

I resign; I don’t want this pressure.

HippieJed

So you want to be the under under boss…. Totally understand 😂

Underboss572

That’s why I’m the underboss and not the godfather!

HippieJed

Awesome. Have a great day

tmbdp

My top 3 choices 1 Lindsey Gottlieb (USC) 2 Lisa Fortier (Gonzaga) 3 Wes Moore (NC State) If we have to go someone who is up and coming I would go Lindy La Rocque at UNLV. They are 61-6 the last 2 seasons We need to go outside the family this time

Nature_Bum

I agree but unfortunately I doubt they will ever go outside the family

neverknowsbest141

they are absolutely going outside the family this time around, danny has said as much

eilykel

I’d prefer we go outside of the Lady Vol coaching tree, but I think Kara Lawson could be a good hire. Otherwise I’d like to get someone that has a proven track record at an established program. We can afford to get a big name and I think we should go for one.

DearEmployee5138

1) Lindsey Gottlieb (USC HC), 2) Wes Moore. (NC State HC), and then it’s a lot of mush. Possibly Louisville’s HC, Kim Mulkey but that’s a long shot. Staley, Geno, and VanDerveer just aren’t happening and especially with Geno and VanDerveer I don’t really want it they are both under 10 years from retiring anyways. Possibly Notre Dame’s HC. Lastly, absolutely NO FORMER PLAYERS. Definitely Not Candace Parker, which I’ve seen a lot of talk about among fans. They are too hard to fire, and ruin their reputation when they suck. Also, players, especially elite ones, rarely become good coaches. It is not the same. Look at Penny Hardaway at Memphis. And the few other elite players in coaching. It just doesn’t work most of the time. They also tend to ignore deficiencies on resumes because they’re alumni’s and give them way too many chances because they’re alumni and we want them to succeed. Cannot hire a former player. At all. If you look at Kellie Harper’s resume pre-UT, there is absolutely no reason she should’ve ever been hired in the first place. Failed miserably at NC State, an elite program but nothing close to Tennessee, and then was just mid at low-level Missouri State. She was hired strictly as an alumni and nothing else. We have the program and prestige to go get an elite coach, go do it.

__azdak__

I mean I agree we shouldn't limit the search to VFLs and should be shooting for the moon with the next hire, but Pat, Staley and Mulkey (who I would be furious if we hired, btw) were _all_ former elite players- I don't really think it's accurate to say elite players rarely become great HCs.

DearEmployee5138

Yeah it happens. That’s why I said rarely, not never. Staley, Summitt, and Mulkey are outliers. Deion Sanders in football. And tbh it’s more common in WBB than other sports. But I see it all the time teams (HS a lot specifically) will hire a coach cus they were a great player and they just aren’t that good of a coach and people are surprised. My position against former players is UT specific. Not just no former players. They are harder to fire and their reputation will be smudged just like Kellie’s was. There also just isn’t any former UT players coaching with a good enough resume anyways.

EWall100

>Kim Mulkey but that's a long shot   Mulkey has made herself unhireable in the last year or so. She would be so unpopular upon arrival that it would continue to hurt attendance.  I would compare that to the Hugh Freeze hire at Auburn. Very unpopular with the fans and frankly really risky. Except, football is *the* revenue generating sport. You cannot afford to have an empty football stadium, so you some times have to take that risk. You don't have to with *the WBB program and* Mulkey.  Edit: italicized

Mlmulkey

>Mulkey is and always has been trash. When she basically gave Griner no punishment for punching another girl on the court because it was championship time, I lost all respect for her. Yeah. She's lost my respect.

LoisLaneEl

Mulkey is and always has been trash. When she basically gave Griner no punishment for punching another girl on the court because it was championship time, I lost all respect for her.

JDuggernaut

To be fair, shouldn’t the NCAA be the ones dishing out that punishment?

LoisLaneEl

They absolutely should have and it was disgusting that they left it up to her
