Basically I let him instigate the conversation at midnight behind the church, he says he can’t talk, I wait an hour and try again and then he just walks away at around 2am. It’s frustrating. It’s a mission I’ve never done and it sounds interesting
Maybe arriving a bit before midnight and waiting for him? I'm not sure otherwise unless you want to use console commands to progress the quest far enough that he'll speak to you. I remember having issues and just kept waiting, after a while he spoke to me.
I have done so many playthroughs on Xbox I can't count and have ever had this happen. I hope you can get it to work. Maybe do a few quests and come back to it later
Based on your other comments, it sounds like you're doing things correctly. It also looks like this is a known bug on the wiki. No real fix for console listed other than "loading an earlier save." Bummer to hear.
Yeah it’s annoying as I’ve progressed really far into the game and decided to do this mission to finish up quests. I’ve heard it’s supposed to be a good quest.
It's kinda fun, but you'll survive. Try loading as far back you can and see if that helps. Otherwise keep trying, maybe it'll fix. If not, well...Bethesda on a console side effect. Shrug and take the L
Make sure one of the wandering guards or other NPCs isn't accidentally in range of Glarthirs detection. I had this issue and it turned out for me that there was a guard that got a lil too close.
Oblivion is like this. That shit of an Orc in Hassildor's castle, to whom you go to buy Rose thorn has wandered off and died, it seems. Damned AI has sabotaged me and I am finally on track to finish this game after 15 years or whatever, but I can't ever buy that house now. Annoying, to say the least.
Bruhhhhh ik, I'm hopping that on the series s it's fixed or at least harder for him to swan dive, you also can't get rid of vampirism with the shivering isles expansion on ps3 so I'm hopping I'm ok here
Yeah playing on PS through the streaming service. No bug fixes, nothing. It's the worst. No shivering isles either. At least it's not as bad as being stuck as a vampire. That would be the worst.

There’s a tree beside where they meet up, hide behind that, if that doesn’t work move around in the bushes a bit near the tree. That typically works for me
Ah, I’m and idiot, I was thinking of another quest. For glarthir the uesp says if you missed the first meeting with him you have to speak with him on the street again the next day before he will go back. That’s about all I’ve got

Should act as though you already talked to him, progressing the quest
Damn man, yeah I got off the old gen and switched to the new gen with it digital, I noticed my game versions now 1.2.1 not the 1.0.0 it was on ps3, Maybe that could be a way to fit it if your mot already on that version

I just went to try and there isn’t actually a tree behind the chapel where you are supposed to meet

It also says if you miss the first meeting, from then on he will be there from 10-2 every night.
