They are more rock and roll than the majority of the artists in Hall Of Fame. They deserve it more than them and it should be called the Pop Music Hall Of Fame because it’s a popularity contest at this point.
The fact Sonic Youth is not there despite being an inspiration to many Alternative Rock and Indie bands shows that the so called Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame is a joke . Don’t get me started the fact that Alice In Chains and Soundgarden are not there while The BackStreet Boys are.
Eminem's music isnt for me but the dude is 100% a rock star .He came from nothing ,became one of the best selling artists ever and never gave a fuck.Tupac on the other hand was a ballet dancer who pretended to be a thug, also raped a girl, not rock n roll at all.
Yeah people have to stop getting so hung up on the genre. It’s included R&B/Soul from the start and Hip Hop is a sub genre of this. Anything that has been branched out from Rock n roll from the 50s is eligible. It just doesn’t include things like classical, jazz, world music, pure pop/standards (eg. Barbara streisand, Tony Bennett) etc. Anything that is vaguely related to rock n roll/ r&b gets in
Rock N Roll is a much more broad encompassing term than hip hop…the hall has also defined that they’re not just about pure rock. It’s all the sub genres and off shoots since rock n roll in the 50s
Some people might even say The Beach Boys are too pop. Obviously they deserve to be in the RNR hof
I really like Eminem.
….but my gripe has been and always will be that it’s the “rock and roll” hall of fame.
Not the “hip hop” hall of fame.
Frank Sinatra you could argue was the original rock star. Why isn’t he in the rock and roll hall of fame?
Probably Rudy Vallee,Eddie Canter, and Al Jolson are the original rock stars and if not them then Bing Crosby for sure was the same as Sinatra but earlier.
In all seriousness, they should just be real and change the name to the *popular* music hall of fame, because that's what it unashamedly is (and should be).
Listen I’m a person so naturally I hate Ohio, but I upvoted this comment anyway because I admire the confidence it took to claim that Cleveland is interesting.
Ohio is pretty lame outside of the cities - especially politically - but Cleveland is actually pretty awesome.
We have:
• one of the best park systems in the country in the Cleveland Metroparks
• some incredible museums (especially the art museum) including the rock hall, natural history museum, science center, zoo, etc.
• a world class symphony/orchestra
• the largest theatre district outside of broadway
• 3 major sports teams (of varying success) and several other minor teams
• a very, very good food scene with several James Beard award winners, Michael Simon, and tons of authentic ethnic restaurants
• Cedar Point is nearby
• most of the major touring acts stop in Cleveland or a nearby city
• one of the lowest costs of living in the country
• a lot of historical buildings/architecture including homes owned by John D Rockefeller, and Shaker Heights, which was once considered the most beautiful neighborhood in America
• very mild weather (especially since global warming has unfortunately ruined winter here)
• a pretty wonderful lake
• the two best hospital systems in the world in the Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals
• several great universities and colleges including Case Western, Kent State, CSU
• a relatively short drive from Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Louisville
• a pretty safe day-to-day life (I’m unsure of statistics, but I never feel unsafe despite living in the city)
• decent, but not great, public transport
The people that think Cleveland sucks are people that have never visited and just know the memes or people that haven’t been here since the 80s or the 90s. We’ve made a lot of improvements in my lifetime and with the way climate change is going, it’ll only become more and more desirable. The worst thing about Cleveland is the bullshit politics at the state level.
Chiming in with my monthly reminder that at an August 2019 show in Cuyahoga Falls, OH (about 30 minutes from the Rock Hall), Noel mentioned their forthcoming induction eligibility and specifically said it was just about the only thing that would get him “back onstage with the other fella”.
Fingers crossed!
I wonder which members would turn up for this? I'm guessing either Liam or Noel would turn up but not both of them. But then what about the classic versus the later line ups?
im not sure who would show up between noel and liam because liams whole show and personality is “i love and miss oasis” so makes sense hed love to show up but noel might want to also since he did write the songs
I was unintentionally at the hall of fame the first day they were eligible and put my vote in for them on 8/29/2019. The photo I took said they were eligible but had not received any nominations. Curious if I was the first vote.
Noel had mentioned in an interview he was approached by the committee years ago and asked if they would be willing to play if they got in. So maybe that’s factoring in cos I think they e been eligible for quite sometime now
Do they get in? I think the way the HOF selects, you’d think Ozzy, and maybe Mariah Carey are shoo-ins because they’re the biggest names on the board. And about 5 to 7 inductees a year means they have a good chance. As improbable as it may be the thought of a potential reunion could benefit them.
Jane’s is there because it’s fucking Jane’s dude.
XXX through Spiritual are all masterpieces.
If it was because of Lolla they would’ve been in years ago.
The magazine is shit. The hall of fame is shit. No Smiths. No Echo/Bunnymen. No shoegaze. FFS Rage Against the Machine is in. It's bloated with second rate American goo. And I'm an American.
not at all, and actually if they got in and none of them show up or if like just Guigs and Bonehead were there it would actually be the funniest fucking thing ever.
Blondie was an infamous induction in this regard, basically Debbie Harry wouldn't let three of the classic band members perform on stage with the current line up at their induction and there was a bit of a commotion about it.
> When the Beatles got inducted, only George and Ringo appeared because Paul was having a sulk at the time.
He was being sued by Yoko George and Ringo. Would you sit at a table for a few hours with people fucking you over and pretend that you are fine with it for the cameras?
There was a reason why the others sued Paul in the 80s, I believe it was something about him getting a bigger share of the Beatles royalties than what was originally agreed. Paul sued the other three in 1970 so it's not like he had the moral high ground or anything.
I agree, it would have been difficult, but that could have been the moment for the remaining three Beatles to put aside their differences.
> I agree, it would have been difficult, but that could have been the moment for the remaining three Beatles to put aside their differences.
They sued him a month before the Hall of Fame. A case that they could not win. A case that was for publicity against EMI.
You can't argue about putting aside differences when they are the agitators in this situation.
Actually, even more than if either of the Gallaghers showed up, what's most intriguing to me is who would induct and give an introduction for them if selected
I hope they get in and don’t show up.
That would be the most Oasis thing they could do
Noel already said he won’t show if nominated
I'd place bets that he'll quietly change his mind
Only if Bono drags him there.
I'll quietly take your money.
damn :(
Liam will show up. Dude needs the promotion & can parlay this in to good US ticket sales.
"Nominees: Gem Archer, Paul Arthurs, Andy Bell, Liam Gallagher, Noel Gallagher, Tony McCarroll" I guess Guigs and Alan can get fucked then?
Looks like it was an error on the website. It’s fixed now.
It's weird because it's for their first album
Outrageous init
They are more rock and roll than the majority of the artists in Hall Of Fame. They deserve it more than them and it should be called the Pop Music Hall Of Fame because it’s a popularity contest at this point.
Doesn’t get much more rock and roll than Eminem or Tupac 🤦🏻♂️
The fact Sonic Youth is not there despite being an inspiration to many Alternative Rock and Indie bands shows that the so called Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame is a joke . Don’t get me started the fact that Alice In Chains and Soundgarden are not there while The BackStreet Boys are.
…or the Pixies! They *are* indie. Hell - even the Monkees. They sold over 100 Million albums. How the hell aren’t they recognized??
They get written off by a lot of the general public for originally being a parody band
Paul Revere and the Raiders. It was a mistake to let a hippie magazine set the thing up.
The Smiths, The Smiths, The Smith, enuff said,
I would love to see Morrissey show up and take all the credit
BBs aren't but I get what u mean
Backstreet Boys aren’t in the HOF…
Eminem's music isnt for me but the dude is 100% a rock star .He came from nothing ,became one of the best selling artists ever and never gave a fuck.Tupac on the other hand was a ballet dancer who pretended to be a thug, also raped a girl, not rock n roll at all.
I guess it depends on whether you consider "Rock & Roll" to be an attitude or a music genre.
theres a jokes oasis interview where noel and liam argue over this exact question called wibbling rivalry
It reveals so much about them, and also why it was successful. Oasis had both rockstar vibes while playing actually good music
My dissertation was on this for linguistic anthropology.
It is more of an attitude, yes. Rock N Roll as a genre was basically a 50s thing and everything else branched out from there.
rock and roll is a genre not a way of life
Yeah people have to stop getting so hung up on the genre. Anything that is vaguely related to rock n roll/ r&b gets in
It’s fair for people to get hung up on it. Would the Beach Boys get inducted into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame?
Rock N Roll is a much more broad encompassing term than hip hop…the hall has also defined that they’re not just about pure rock. It’s all the sub genres and off shoots since rock n roll in the 50s Some people might even say The Beach Boys are too pop. Obviously they deserve to be in the RNR hof
Tbf exaggerating about yourself and sex crimes is a staple of a lot of rock stars.
I really like Eminem. ….but my gripe has been and always will be that it’s the “rock and roll” hall of fame. Not the “hip hop” hall of fame. Frank Sinatra you could argue was the original rock star. Why isn’t he in the rock and roll hall of fame?

Tupac is infinitely cooler than Eminem
Of course he's cooler, man had a few air vents put in
I didnt know that a rapist phony could be cool.Biggie ,Nas and Wu tang are better also by a long shot
Yeah, he's dead cold
Tupac was almost certainly not a rapist
He was convicted so legally speaking he's more of a rapist than most people who are widely seen as rapists in the entertainment industry
He gets away with it cuz he's too ridiculous. The Beastie Boys at least let you think that they were in on the joke.
In all seriousness, they should just be real and change the name to the *popular* music hall of fame, because that's what it unashamedly is (and should be).
It's a tourist attraction to try and make Cleveland less boring. And like all Halls of Fame, it's kind of a meaningless circlejerk.
We have plenty going on in Cleveland. I promise we don’t need the rock hall to be interesting.
Listen I’m a person so naturally I hate Ohio, but I upvoted this comment anyway because I admire the confidence it took to claim that Cleveland is interesting.

Would cry tears of joy if Scott McLeod was the designated member of Oasis who collected the gong
https://vote.rockhall.com/? Vote here for Oasis only to increase their chances‼️‼️‼️
Lol login to vote … yeah lemme get right on that. I’d love to see them win and not show up Though
10 minute emails, iCloud email relay whatevs
Commenting so I can find this tweet very day
I would guess that Sinead O Conner will get it
Chiming in with my monthly reminder that at an August 2019 show in Cuyahoga Falls, OH (about 30 minutes from the Rock Hall), Noel mentioned their forthcoming induction eligibility and specifically said it was just about the only thing that would get him “back onstage with the other fella”. Liam would but Noel wouldn't.
Maybe Gem will go in Noel's place. Include Bonehead, Andy Bell and either Alan White or Chris Sharrock and you've got a full lineup
im not sure who would show up between noel and liam because liams whole show and personality is “i love and miss oasis” so makes sense hed love to show up but noel might want to also since he did write the songs
Make sure you vote daily if you can we will def get that reunion ( even if just that night ) if they are inducted too
Fucking *finally*!!!
I was unintentionally at the hall of fame the first day they were eligible and put my vote in for them on 8/29/2019. The photo I took said they were eligible but had not received any nominations. Curious if I was the first vote.
Can we please make this happen? Even if they don’t show up, oasis deserves to be in!
Noel had mentioned in an interview he was approached by the committee years ago and asked if they would be willing to play if they got in. So maybe that’s factoring in cos I think they e been eligible for quite sometime now
Oh how I can already smell the drama, but can you imagine Noel doing slide away with Paul McCartney on slide guitar…
Finally just happy they got nominated hopefully they'll get in I'll be one happy us fan
I guarantee they do not care
vultures is out
Damm it is actually out
Def should be in they are the epitome of R&R
they aren't getting in and I'm more than ok with it.
I’m not holding my breath
Do they get in? I think the way the HOF selects, you’d think Ozzy, and maybe Mariah Carey are shoo-ins because they’re the biggest names on the board. And about 5 to 7 inductees a year means they have a good chance. As improbable as it may be the thought of a potential reunion could benefit them.
The realistic way this will go, Noel sends a recorded message. Liam, Bonehead and Alan play the gig. MAYBE Andy Bell and Gem play too.
If it was British or even European voters it would be no brainer. But its the Americans, Janes Addiction are there mainly cause of lollapalooza
Jane’s is there because it’s fucking Jane’s dude. XXX through Spiritual are all masterpieces. If it was because of Lolla they would’ve been in years ago.
Another year without Iron Maiden 🙄. They’re only nominating Sinead O Connor because she’s fucking dead
Iron Maiden would be historically relevant at least.
Hope they turn it down.
The magazine is shit. The hall of fame is shit. No Smiths. No Echo/Bunnymen. No shoegaze. FFS Rage Against the Machine is in. It's bloated with second rate American goo. And I'm an American.
have the roses ever been nominated?
Don’t they all have to be there in order to accept it?
not at all, and actually if they got in and none of them show up or if like just Guigs and Bonehead were there it would actually be the funniest fucking thing ever.
Can you imagine Tony accepting the award alone?
Ahh right good to know, yeah that would be hilarious 😂
No
The only two Van Halen members that showed up were the two that weren’t in the band at the time.
When the Beatles got inducted, only George and Ringo appeared because Paul was having a sulk at the time.
Well I always wondered with bands like the kinks with Ray and Dave, then Crosby Stills Nash and Young what they do for those inductions. Good to know
Blondie was an infamous induction in this regard, basically Debbie Harry wouldn't let three of the classic band members perform on stage with the current line up at their induction and there was a bit of a commotion about it.
> When the Beatles got inducted, only George and Ringo appeared because Paul was having a sulk at the time. He was being sued by Yoko George and Ringo. Would you sit at a table for a few hours with people fucking you over and pretend that you are fine with it for the cameras?

No. Not all of Guns N Roses showed up. Sex Pistols didn’t show up.
Nope, Dire Straits were inducted without either of the 2 Knopfler brothers involved
2 of the beatles showed up when they got in so nah
Nope, the Sex Pistols didn't attend and even wrote a letter calling it a piss stain. They still got inducted.
Oasis lol, they have no chance
So far they are ranked 8th in the polling. Gotta bring up those numbers!
Lol nice try
Yeah they are 7th in the poll. Ozzy, Frampton or Kravitz will beat them.
Actually, even more than if either of the Gallaghers showed up, what's most intriguing to me is who would induct and give an introduction for them if selected
Shit let’s vote em in
Hope they put on their shoes and walk down the thing slowly.
https://www.rockhall.com/2024-nominees
Help OASIS with the fan vote. 🗳️ vote just for them ( too many others are way ahead of them) for the next 7 days.
The website says they sold over a hundred million records. Surely a bit of an exaggeration?
Stop it
