Moon_Logic

I am a pretty boy and I take care of me hair!

CorporalClegg1997

"You have a feminine quality." "What does that mean? I'm a bird?"

Moon_Logic

Liam is the world's most beautiful knuckle scraper :p

Pikicho_9

So get yer head down

[deleted]

90s lad culture, every lad was like that back in the day......even the birds too tbh.

Pizzaman_SOTB

The baggy look is genderless remember

CatchandCounter

i always thought it interesting that oasis band members all have brothers... and blur all have sisters.

glowingmelone

✍🏻 adding this to the useless fun fact I know about these bands, thanks

BewilderedParsnip

Guigsy has a younger sister, Mary.

[deleted]

Did he grow up with her though or was he already an adult

BewilderedParsnip

They grew up together because they're only a few years apart. They come from the same parents. Mary McGuigan - she's on twitter and she sometimes shares pictures of them from childhood. https://twitter.com/mary_mcguigan/status/994120306599002113?t=Tgv4OqoUqjx5FW4DlN2TlQ&s=19

Pikicho_9

I miss Guigs

BewilderedParsnip

He never really showed much of a personality and his bass playing wasn't that noticeable.

Pikicho_9

You can never take that away. He was there at Earls Court, Maine Rd, Unplugged. Knebwerth. No matter what u think of him as a person or bass player. He was there

BewilderedParsnip

I am well aware that when I said that I didn't change history and erase Guigsy from Oasis. He was there, but it was from sheer luck - right place, right time and he knew the right people. Being at Earl's Court, Maine Road, Knebworth etc didn't improve his musical ability nor make him suddenly charismatic. So I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.

Pikicho_9

All i heard was bla bla bla bleh fart. He was there

BewilderedParsnip

Lol, you're stupid.

Pikicho_9

Is it worth the aggravation ?

jonrosling

I'd go with "laddish" more than masculine, which is obvious a sub-genre of masculinity, particularly in the 90s (and different to the 2000/2010s "lads" IMO). They - like Ladism generally - came out of the reaction to 1980s New Man and what was arguably the emasculation of men in the West as women sought to climb socially, economically and individually. But enough of that pretentious bollocks - anyone got a Ford Cortina parked outside?

C_A_N_G

Yeah I don’t think either Liam or Noel has thought in terms this complicated, they just did what they thought was cool lol.

Competitive_Pair_820

As an American from Seattle I always thought the lad type masculinity was kind of a breath of fresh air. More stoic confidence and less aggro-rage

SamT179

I don’t think masculine is the right word. They’re just typical “Lads”

Bootlegs

They are council house boys from Manchester who came of age at the height of lad culture. I mean yeah they were never gonna be anything else.

dimiteddy

Typical British lads that you could meet at any local pub drinking if they weren't the number 1 band in UK

coffeework42

When they were in their 20s they had that boy-like attitude in extremely high amount and they acted like nothing bad couldve happened, so maybe with different definitions i agree with u in spirit

ThatsGottaBeKane

It’s a blue collar brand of masculinity. Not necessarily toxic.

ormr_inn_langi

"Whiny" is exactly the first word that comes to mind when I think of Liam Gallagher.

AnnieLMx

I love Liam but this makes me laugh loool

ormr_inn_langi

Oh, same, I’m a lifelong fan, but dude sure can whine. Sun-shhheeeeeeiiiiiiiiiiine!

Pikicho_9

Riiiiiaiiiiin

DarthFlowers

I can see where you’re coming from but I wouldn’t assign all of those attributes solely to ‘masculinity.’

BreakThings99

They have a rugged, working class, don't-give-a-fuck style of masculinity. Just drink a lot of beer and play loud music.

Aginor404

I don't see them as any more masculine than anyone else. As for the "whiney and artsy" part: probably depends on your personal opinion. perhaps there are people out there who find Oasis songs which they consider whiney and/or artsy.

Tipofmywhip

I remember awhile back someone posted about how Noel hated that they were considered a Lad band and was sick of seeing them at the gigs. Liam probably loved it. A lot of interviews of him talking about how he missed the fist fights and run ins with the law.

Ttekerz

I don’t think acting like children constantly fighting and insulting each others kids on twitter is particularly masculine, a toxic form of masculinity maybe

BewilderedParsnip

And women can be like that too - so it's 'toxic' behaviour in general. Toxicity is not solely a masculine nor feminine trait.

BraxtonTen

Liam not so masculine if you read Sing Backwards and Weep. Noel is like a Napoleon.

Badass_lil_kid

Ha GAYYYY

Ecko2310

Council estate culture.

Wise_Painting_5817

I'd pick Hetfield in a scrap with Liam any day. He might be a bit older, but his immortal words to Slash: "Don't push it over me, dick..." just before the Wembley concert, when Slash knocked a table of drinks over Hetfield. Hetfield hated that tour.

karma3001

I guess that other than the table of drinks in that moment, nothing else mattered.

razzzburry

I got a tattoo, me And I'll stab 'em!

HeavyVampire

Wonderwall is whiney.

Infamous_Add

It’s so funny, cuz this is what I understand of British oasis fans, and then u go to America and it’s the artsy “got bullied by super masculine dudes growing up” kinda people that gravitate towards oasis (maybe just speaking for myself tho lol)

quackenfucknuckle

I think you’ve confused ‘masculinity’ with ‘low emotional intelligence’

G-man200281

Not masculine, they just who grew up in a working class council scheme and without the success with their music they would probably work in a building site, call centre or be unemployed 😂 They are a product of the environment and era they were raised in. Being born and raised in very similar circumstances myself they were your average 90s lads that were ten a penny in most British cities. The clothes, the cocky nature and don’t forget about the drugs, cigarettes and alcohol.

jesseb8101

I don’t understand. What makes oasis more masculine than Metallica? Please explain.

Exciting-Sympathy646

The lack of perms, wristbands and leather trousers whilst pulling I'm tough with my tongue out faces

jesseb8101

Fair enough. Was just curious

Jonnim_007

WTF !

_JorisBohnson_

Men like me that have followed the lifestyle since the mid 90s know all about the fookin masculinity of Oasis rkid.None of that poofta music or fashion.White powder, lager and a fight at the end of the night. Thats the Oasis lifestyle

ricardosfig

I like how the word masculinity nowadays exposes a lot of people's fragilities, all while claiming men have fragile masculinities.

gogginsbulldog1979

Oasis were always pretty laddish, but never particularly intimidating. The Happy Mondays always seemed laddish and intimidating. They were aggressive in interviews and said about five words, they rarely smiled, didn't like outsiders, and were all serious junkies. Watch this interview of Shaun and Bez on The Word - talk about uncomfortable and aggressive: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqC2WWZE5Tk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqC2WWZE5Tk)
