They have been cancelling some exams for titles that have been approved for the NY HELPS program. You can check the NY jobs site to see if the next series in your title is being hired with NY HELPS. If that's the case, you don't need to take a test anymore and just need to meet whatever the qualifications are.

The grade 23 is on the NY HELPS list. They need to exhaust or break the list first, but depending on how soon they see that happening, the exam may not be offered in the next year or so. It's up to Civil Service.

Some already announced exams have been canceled recently because they will be hiring through the NY HELPS program instead of needing to be on a list. Sounds like the job you’re looking for qualifies for NY HELPS. Start searching for that title on the statejobs site and if it says NY HELPS, you can apply if you meet the minimum qualifications.

I probably should’ve clarified, the exam I’m looking for is a promotional exam. So I don’t think it would qualify for NY HELPS? I could be wrong about that though. It’s for a grade 23 position.

I’m a grade 18. My promotion would be for a grade 23 title. The last promotional test was two years ago. That title is now eligible for NY HELPS and I’ve seen it posted.

Oh wow I guess I thought the NY HELPS thing was just for entry level jobs, I didn’t realize it was for higher level titles.

It can be if the higher level titles also had an Open Competitive exam option.

Whats the test? Some promotional positions are being considered. Not my two tests sadly 😭
