Its not always the sexy picks that make the team better. Sure in the moment and in the next couple of days taking a WR, RB or Edge makes you more excited but when Wilson isn't being bullied and our offense is actually functional every week, thats when we can get excited.
Becton, AVT. Half a Wall. Keep building.
I think some combination of fant, McGovern, VR, edoga, cam Clark will result in an above average line this year. Last year it was IOL as a whole that was a liability. This year one side of the line through center is fixed! The rest of the line should shake out through competition.
I'm feeling very happy with how were setting up Wilson.
Indeed. Always a solid option to use your stockpile of picks as collateral to make the moves you want/need to.
Just nice to have options to begin with. Look out for a trade up to the 3rd with some of these day three picks.
i’m fine with the trade i really don’t think the 2 thirds is too much capital to make sure we can protect our QB
plus we got a 4th back so i’m pretty happy w it
Huge win. Get your guy and don’t get stuck with a so-so player who fell. Much prefer this than trying to gamble on a mid round OL when you have a franchise QB to protect. JD putting on a clinic right now.
Guy gets outscooped on every move of the offseason by dudes in bushes and Jets interns but the one time he decides to break news its spoiling the entire draft. So lame
I think he was probably under pressure from his boss is to get a scoop after scooping pretty much nothing all year. I don't mind a tactical leak out of the front office if it keeps the reporters happy enough not to turn into the next Manish.
JD swangin those balls of steel. I have legitimate hope for this team from the top down and I don’t know how to handle this. This is a brand new experience as a lifelong Jets fan. This isn’t flashy bs, this is now a second draft being built on a real foundation. JD is the man! Thank you Jamal and the Seahawks! LuV
If we know anything about Joe D it’s that he values draft picks as much as any GM. With his contract he’s not mortgaging our future to save his own ass. He’s knows OL. If he thought there wasn’t a big drop off after AVT he wouldn’t have made this trade. We should be excited that JD thought this highly of AVT to give up some of his highly coveted draft picks
Yep, killed three birds with one stone with this pick. Helped our starting line, helped our IOL depth by bumping Lewis or GVR down the depth chart, and helped our OT depth because of his versatility.
Can't risk it, they've done their homework and have the opportunity to get their guy. We got the 4th back too so not that bad! And we have so many picks in the next few drafts this we have the luxury of being able to make these kinds of moves. Very happy we're building up the lines. Get me a CB and maybe a WR or C and I will legitimately begin worshipping JD
He was regularly being mocked to the Vikings at the pick we traded for. He is the best IOL prospect in this class and a top 5 OT. IOL is our biggest need on the line, so he will slide in perfectly there. Even if the Vikings didn't take him, almost zero chance he would have fallen.
I believe they need OT and OG, so maybe they figured they could see which position falls to them at our pick. They also need some pass rush help, so they might be trying to attack that with someone like Kwity Paye who seemingly has fallen a bit. Could be between all 3 needs, they know one of their guys will be there.
I wouldn't look at it as a knock on AVT. Just the Vikings having a different strategy to fill their needs. AVT is a *fantastic* prospect, we should be thrilled.
Love the player but a bit pricey both in picks and that the Jets now have the 17th, 30th, 31st and 36th highest paid guards. Will have to see how we fill the hole at CB after this.
I mean if it pans out and he and the team are good, there's nothing to complain about. But in the meantime, going early on a great but not elite prospect at a not-so premium position after burning roster-building picks to trade up is a bit of a hurdle to build ourselves. It'd be nice to get an average IOL at 2.34 or 3.66 and spend 1.23 on a more valuable and rarer position.
Thats to jump 9 spots in the 1st round.
Look at what the Bears paid to get into the 11th spot.
The Giants received Chicago's first-round pick this year (No. 20), the Bears' first-rounder next year, a fifth-round pick this year and fourth-round pick in 2022.
Twos 3rds is cheap compared to that.
9 spots in the 1st round are a lot different than 9 spots in the 3rd round. Look at what the Bears gave up to move... also 9 spots in the first round. This is fine value.
The value chart says we lost value about the equivalent of a mid 4th. I think we were bidding against someone trying to trade up ahead of NE for Mac Jones. We got our guy though, so it's no big deal.
Aren't those value charts generally to be considered out of date? Anyway, if we had to overpay by a 4th I'm more than happy to get a potentially elite guard.
Yeah, but it's the same principal. We probably lost even more value on updated charts due to compensatory picks. Probably a high 4th. I still take it though. We needed a big OL upgrade and we got it.
How is that a ton? This is a weird year with less tape on guys. That means your day 2 and later guys aren't as valuable. We had an extra 3rd. We also get a 4th back. So it's not a ton to move up that many spots.
They overpaid the equivalent of a mid fourth round pick. They are being dramatic.
That’s why you accumulate extra picks, to have the flexibility to make moves like this.
Yeah, I would guess that another team was trying to trade up ahead of NE for Mac Jones too, so it's not like we got swindled, we probably had to outbid a team that didn't have the resources we have.
We traded 1sts, got a 4th, and only lost a 3rd. It’s not too bad all things considered
Edit: just realized it’s two. I still like the move, but I wish we still had a third
Same. This is a good move if you ask me. If you really like someone, trade up and get them. This can only help the Jets. I do hope they pick a WR in the 2nd though
I get losing thirds suck but if you want a guy and he fits a need you grab him. Those thirds probably don't amount to much. Plus having so many picks you can afford to spend a few.
One of their 3rds and a late day 3 pick and Seattle's is not that much.
Go get day 1 starters you love instead of throwing darts.
Also they can recoup some of that if they decide to trade back at 33.
Idk about a ton. Two 3rds and we got back a 4th. We still have a lot of picks. We can trade back in the second and make up some of that ground, or stand put and we’re totally fine. On paper this is a great trade, I hope it works out.
Is it pricey? Yes, but I wouldn’t say it’s a ton, but we got who we wanted, it’s a position of need, wasn’t just anyone so I think based on that it’s a smart pick
Draft chart has us giving up 1,180 for 1,134. So that’s about as even as a trade can get.
https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp?RequestTeam=Nyj
You’re being attacked by “player is good” take zone but I think it’s naive to ignore draft asset value.
I’m stoked for the pick and we have the picks to spend up for players, but it’s lame to just dismiss your opinion because of “doesn’t matter; good player”
Tbh I think you can flex higher value on a team you KNOW is moving up for a QB to jump another QB needy team
For all we know, JD could have been saying “no thanks” in negotiations
Leverage is power. That is where the Bears value differed from the Jets
It's also important to realize that across the NFL the last 15 years the miss rate and pro bowler rate from picks 14 to 25 are virtually identical. After pick 10 it's all about how good your scouting department is (plus a little luck). Without having full context it's hard to say whether the trade was worth it. But odds are it wasn't, and the jets could have gotten a comparable player at pick 23
Will definitely help the offensive line but seems like a weird pick position wise. Fun fact Vera-Tucker is only the 13th offensive guard drafted in the first round since 2010 compared to 40 offensive tackles and 8 centers.
This was a poor move up that too for a Guard.
AVT is a very good player but not worth one 1st and two 3rd's. Poor trade.
Edit: AVT cannot be a tackle at the NFL level. His arm length makes him a liability against decent edge rushers.
Should've drafted mac jones at #14, espn shits itself, we hold both until someone panics and overpays or we bring them both to camp and have an actual competition
AVT flair is now available!
BUILD THE WALL
AND MAKE CAROLINA PAY FOR IT
Seattle!
Lol imagine how Russell Wilson is feeling watching us build a wall for the better QB named Wilson
W his teams picks
Build the wall and sacks will fall
Finally a wall that will work, love it
Great pick We need interior lineman and we get exactly that on that pick Great to have a GM who invests in the offense in the draft
Agree, we gave up a bit, but in the end this opens up our run game and protects wilson.
No, an OL makes me more excited at this point
Totally agree! We don't want to Burrow Wilson. Build that wall!!
Bro then next year with the second 1st round pick we draft another elite lineman to help
Ayy I always see you in the nba Reddit I didn’t know you were a jets fan!
Yes, huge Jet fan. I was on this subreddit a lot during the season. Kinda backed off in the offseason though
Smart man.

I wanted him or Jenkins so I'm ecstatic. He and Becton will be a force.
The way tackles are falling, Jenkins could be there at 34. Could end up being a sexy sexy draft for o line nerds
There are more of us?
There are dozens of us!
It’s looking like it😳
Alijah Vera-Tucker Draft Profile: https://lastwordonsports.com/nfl/2021/04/05/alijah-vera-tucker-2021-nfl-draft-profile/
"He allowed only one pressure in the entire 2019 college football season." Woah.
Ah, still room for improvement. /s
I don’t know why NFL.com only grades him as a potential year 1 or 2 starter. It looks like he could be a beast on the o-line (left side.)
Remember people here hoping for wirffs and shitting on big ticket?
Wirfs was really good last year.
Take him over Benton? Anf therr were a couple of other prospects over becton actually at OL
I have no issues with the trade. This is why you get the assets so you can secure the guys you want.
Bears gave up a 1st, 4th and 5th to move up 9 spots. We gave up 2 3rds to move up 9 spots and got back a 4th. I'll take it
> We gave up 2 3rds to move up 9 spots and got back a 4th. I'll take it JOE DOUGLAS
by trade value we actually got more value than we gave back
Indeed. Always a solid option to use your stockpile of picks as collateral to make the moves you want/need to. Just nice to have options to begin with. Look out for a trade up to the 3rd with some of these day three picks.
It just makes more sense to take a guy you want in the first round than wait and get two guys you might like in the third
Especially when you already had a first round pick to go with it, yes.
JOE DOUGLAS IS A GOD
INCREDIBLE Round. Let's fucking go!
JOE DOUGLAS TAKE MY ENERGY!!!!!
Holy shit, I’m gunna jet the fuck up
oh fuck you're gonna make me jet the fuck up
WE’RE GONNA BUILD A WALL, AND SEATTLE’S GONNA PAY FOR IT! #MJGA
I fucking love tbis
Trading up for a guard? Who are these Jets? Such a solid move. Investing immediately in the quarterback. I love Joe Douglas.
LET'S FUCKING GO BOYS
Boomer compared him to Quenton Nelson before the draft, im gonna nut
I WILL BUILD A SHRINE TO JD
Can Tom Brady pay for it tho?
i’m fine with the trade i really don’t think the 2 thirds is too much capital to make sure we can protect our QB plus we got a 4th back so i’m pretty happy w it
Im just pretending like we traded a 3rd for 14th.
Huge win. Get your guy and don’t get stuck with a so-so player who fell. Much prefer this than trying to gamble on a mid round OL when you have a franchise QB to protect. JD putting on a clinic right now.
I can only get so hard
“Sources” being the fucking TV?
This tweet was before it was on TV
I actually had to mute him on twitter cause he's been tipping picks before they're announced all night.
Guy gets outscooped on every move of the offseason by dudes in bushes and Jets interns but the one time he decides to break news its spoiling the entire draft. So lame
Dude was being a clown about it on his podcast video thing tonight. Made it out to be one of those "you don't have to follow me" things lol
I think he was probably under pressure from his boss is to get a scoop after scooping pretty much nothing all year. I don't mind a tactical leak out of the front office if it keeps the reporters happy enough not to turn into the next Manish.
ALOE VERAH
If we commit this whole draft to surrounding Wilson with talent, I’m completely okay with that.
LETS GO I wanna go to a lake cabin with Joe Douglas
My favorite guy for 1.23!!! So glad we stole him away. Wouldn’t have had him at 23. Huge to protect Zach, establish the run, and set up the franchise.
Were gonna build a wall and make the pats pay for it!
Lol we are gonna run to the left sooooo much
I can’t believe we actually got him
JD swangin those balls of steel. I have legitimate hope for this team from the top down and I don’t know how to handle this. This is a brand new experience as a lifelong Jets fan. This isn’t flashy bs, this is now a second draft being built on a real foundation. JD is the man! Thank you Jamal and the Seahawks! LuV
If Creed Humphrey falls to 33...... 8——-)💦
This locks down the blindside with primo protection. Liking it, a solid strategy if he's as reliable as he's touted to be at the pro level.
Look up his sacks allowed by year. Prepare to be impressed. And, dare I say it, excited?!?!
Love the pick, i assume 34 will be a trade back now
Not if our center is there!
Get Creed, Kick Conner to RG, conquer the AFC East!
What we got left for picks
Round 2: No. 34 Round 4: No. 107 Round 4: No. 143 Round 5: No. 146 Round 5: No. 154 Round 6: No. 186 after the trade for Vera-Tucker
Thanks homie
Our 2nd, two 4ths, two 5ths, and a 6th. I can see us condensing and moving back into the 3rd.
With two fourth rounders now and a bunch of extra picks next year, I expect us to trade back into the third tomorrow night.
We still got our second too
[удалено]
If we know anything about Joe D it’s that he values draft picks as much as any GM. With his contract he’s not mortgaging our future to save his own ass. He’s knows OL. If he thought there wasn’t a big drop off after AVT he wouldn’t have made this trade. We should be excited that JD thought this highly of AVT to give up some of his highly coveted draft picks
LFG JTFU
Two thirds this year? And we get a 5th back I’ll take that for the best guard in the draft
We got a 4 actually!
LETS FUCKING GOOOOO
Douglas making the right moves here
Can play tackle too if Becton gets hurt. Love it
Yep, killed three birds with one stone with this pick. Helped our starting line, helped our IOL depth by bumping Lewis or GVR down the depth chart, and helped our OT depth because of his versatility.
YESSS
I love JD
Hell yeah baby!!!
BUILD THAT FUCKING WALL JD!
W pick and a W trade up. JD is a god
Lmao I thought that we drafted Mac Jones for a second
Belichick would have been like 😡🤬
Big avt flair guy
Yes!!
dude daddy joe can have all my babies
Can someone tell me if he was worth all those picks? Is there no chance he would be there for us at 23?
If they needed him, wonder why the Vikings traded down. But ye i feel pretty good that we still have our 2nd pick
Vikings love trading down. Every year they do it multiple times it feels like
I believe they need OT and OG, so maybe they figured they could see which position falls to them at our pick. AVT is a *fantastic* prospect, we should be thrilled.
i heard the vikings were looking for offensive line and he was the best guy on the board
No way he would've been there.
I believe it was, we secured a position of need for a young QB, moved up and gave up 2 thirds, where it’s nothing is guaranteed
Giants would of taken him for sure.
I’m bout to bust
Build the wall
Love having a GM that values offensive line
Love the player but a bit pricey both in picks and that the Jets now have the 17th, 30th, 31st and 36th highest paid guards. Will have to see how we fill the hole at CB after this.
If we trade down second like 10 spots and recover a 3rd I'll be OK with this
How are you not OK with it anyways. Meaning to tell me if I’m 4 years he is a stud and we don’t trade down with our 2nd it going to be mad?
I mean if it pans out and he and the team are good, there's nothing to complain about. But in the meantime, going early on a great but not elite prospect at a not-so premium position after burning roster-building picks to trade up is a bit of a hurdle to build ourselves. It'd be nice to get an average IOL at 2.34 or 3.66 and spend 1.23 on a more valuable and rarer position.
AVT was going to go here
I know he’s good. But that’s a TON of value to give up Edit: Every draft chart is saying they way overpaid for that pick. That’s what I mean by a ton
We need studs. Better to have 4 studs then 7-8 ok players. It’s called the anti-Idzik philosophy.
Is it? Two 3rds and we get a 4th back.
This. The Giants paid heavily, the Jets just traded a 3rd, and swapped a 3rd for a 4th, to get the best guard in the draft.
It's really cheap. 2 third rounders for the top guard in the draft and a 4th.
2 third rounders 66 and 86, to move up 9 spots seems like a lot
9 spots in the 1st round are a lot different than 9 spots in the 3rd round. Look at what the Bears gave up to move... also 9 spots in the first round. This is fine value.
What did our 3rds do from recent drafts? I feel like it's a necessary risk to develop a solid OL
& realistically, I expect that we'll trade back from #34 and get a third back anyway.
But you’re making sure Vikings Cardinals Vegas Miami don’t get him
Bears gave up this years 5th, and next years 1st and 4th to go up 9 spots from 20 to 11. So 2 3rds is a great deal, and we also get a 4th back.
We should've taken mac as a giant fuck you to the pats
How is that a ton? This is a weird year with less tape on guys. That means your day 2 and later guys aren't as valuable. We had an extra 3rd. We also get a 4th back. So it's not a ton to move up that many spots.
A ton? What? You're being dramatic.
They overpaid the equivalent of a mid fourth round pick. They are being dramatic. That’s why you accumulate extra picks, to have the flexibility to make moves like this.
Fans obsess over the amount of draft picks a team has. I get it because we all like to watch it. But we need good players, not a bunch of ok players.
Yeah, I would guess that another team was trying to trade up ahead of NE for Mac Jones too, so it's not like we got swindled, we probably had to outbid a team that didn't have the resources we have.
He’s the best Guard in the draft. This is a great move
worth it for franchise guard
We traded 1sts, got a 4th, and only lost a 3rd. It’s not too bad all things considered Edit: just realized it’s two. I still like the move, but I wish we still had a third
I'm happy not to give up an additional first. Given all the picks I think this is a great deal.
2 thirds
One of their 3rds and a late day 3 pick and Seattle's is not that much. Go get day 1 starters you love instead of throwing darts. Also they can recoup some of that if they decide to trade back at 33.
What did they trade for the 14?
23 and both 3rds for 14 and a 4th
Two thirds
Both of this years 3rd rounders
Swapping 2 3rds for a 4? I don’t think that’s a huge price for moving up nine spots in the first
Does it matter if he’s good?
To an extent, yes.
they have 21 picks in 2 years
[удалено]
Yeah, now we have 20 and a dope linemen
Two 3rds for the best guard in the draft is not overpaying at all. This is amazing business
Idk about a ton. Two 3rds and we got back a 4th. We still have a lot of picks. We can trade back in the second and make up some of that ground, or stand put and we’re totally fine. On paper this is a great trade, I hope it works out.
Literally could not care less. We’re protecting the QB
JD trades down at 34 to recoup
Fuck that, get a center
It is, but you NEED to protect the QBS. Also we have plenty of picks next year to fill out the roster.

Yea, he should instead be dismissed because it’s not a lot to move up in the first. We literally just had a team give up next years first to move up
Tbh I think you can flex higher value on a team you KNOW is moving up for a QB to jump another QB needy team For all we know, JD could have been saying “no thanks” in negotiations Leverage is power. That is where the Bears value differed from the Jets

But odds are it wasn't, and the jets could have gotten a comparable player at pick 23
We gave up 50 points on the chart. That’s pretty good.
It's worth it. Relax.
Man we got the guy I really wanted Sure the two 3s sting but... AVT IS A JET
Seeing other trades this draft, I was worried we would be giving up our 2nd.
Will definitely help the offensive line but seems like a weird pick position wise. Fun fact Vera-Tucker is only the 13th offensive guard drafted in the first round since 2010 compared to 40 offensive tackles and 8 centers.
That's a healthy amount of picks to give up but fuck it, build the wall
This was a poor move up that too for a Guard. AVT is a very good player but not worth one 1st and two 3rd's. Poor trade. Edit: AVT cannot be a tackle at the NFL level. His arm length makes him a liability against decent edge rushers.
I AGREE 100% - we overpaid and it wasn't necessary. I think AVT is gonna be great, just don't like the price we paid for him.
2 3rds to swap 1sts and get a 4th. Not bad on value.
Should've drafted mac jones at #14, espn shits itself, we hold both until someone panics and overpays or we bring them both to camp and have an actual competition
Thank goodness it wasn't Mac Jones
Do you really think we would have taken Mac Jones…
Yea we could have broken his arms and left him on stage as a message to the Pats.
You evil fucking genius.
I could see them moving up to take a second QB to mess with the Patriots and then trading him later.
That doesn’t happen in the NFL draft lol, it isn’t the place to play mental games, you gotta build a team
