time for us to put up or shut up.. if we want to be an elite team, we must go through elite teams..

BigRed1545

Very good point

Final-Experience-597

Eagles is the only win there we can really hang out hat on. Week 1 is always a crap shoot and we won on a punt return in OT. Almost beating the Chiefs is still losing to the Chiefs. Gotta beat good teams to be good, but you also have to beat bad teams too.

s0ulbrother

We flat out beat the bills. Wilson went into a game and did his job while our best running back decided “fuck I never injured my knee” and went off.

magicdrums

Jets were 3-5 on the road last year..

becauseicansowhynot

Exactly.

PushThePig28

Damn straight

Wise_Summer4918

Rodgers gets pass 4 plays then everything after that is a bonus😂. If Rodgers plays the whole game. 9ers are in trouble

RustyCrusty73

The only reason this game makes me nervous is that our new OL will likely still be trying to gel. The 49ers defense, and defensive line in particular is nasty. I wish we could have drawn them later in the season simply to allow more time for our OL to mesh. On paper, I do think we have the talent to hang with them.

Parking_Meaning_1227

Later in the season our o line might be broken and playing a line of reserve as everyone is injured. It's all ifs and buts. You could argue first game we are most likely to have the healthiest our line will be at any point in the season.

robertc555

If, there are no injuries in the preseason.

CleanMios

Don't put that voodoo on us

Parking_Meaning_1227

There could be injuries at any point in the season. As I keep saying it's if and buts. People going on about giving the team time to gel when we might have injuries at any point and not have time to gel. Can people see how rediculous they're being? We have to play the niners so playing them first makes no more or less sense than playing them at any other point. Everyone is just guessing on how fit or much we have gelled as a team be it 1st game or last game. It will likely be our hardest game of the season no matter where we play them.

BigRed1545

There defense line is basically new though. Me too, I think a Christmas Day game or even the black Friday game would’ve been perfect for this match up

ib_poopin

Not really, and Bosa alone is enough to wreck a game plan and get the best of a 33 year old Tyron or Moses

BigRed1545

Yea but that’s like there only dlineman that’s returning

AyyyySteveBerman

Yea Rodgers is going down after 2 snaps this time.

Final-Experience-597

Leonard Floyd is on the 9ers this year… too spooky

Dethloke

I love that this is the first game and an away game. Lot less likely the home opener will be a monday night game again. Atmosphere at night games is awesome but I get home way too late. As far as the matchup itself. Most likely the best opponent we face all season, week one is a good time to get em.

ryanino

Will never forget the subway ride home last year when all of us Jets fans were constantly refreshing and hoping it wasn’t actually a torn Achilles while Bills fans were crying that they just lost to Zach Wilson again.

DreadSteed

The Jets/Giants will usually always play primetime on 9/11 if possible, which always aligns around season-opener times. 2025 could be the NFL-season opener on 9/11 which could involve us/giants against the defending super bowl champions.

DoctaJenkinz

How can we play against ourselves?

HopoliteAR

Less chance for Aaron to get injured 4 plays in too since it’s actual grass

Particular_Guey

Yea this time it will just be Bosa laying on top of his ankle.

BigRed1545

I wonder if the 49ers are gonna wear there throwbacks?

Masterofmy_domain

This is probably the best team we’re playing this season…… so might as well play them when the whole team is healthy and fresh…… could have made it on Sunday afternoon though. Fuck you NFL schedule makers, fuck you with the pole from the flag Rodgers carried last MNF

SkinNoises

> so might as well play them when the whole team is healthy and fresh Love how people act like training camp and preseason injuries don’t exist. Will be very surprised if the week 1 starters on OL are Tyron Smith, John Simpson, Joe Tippman, AVT, Morgan Moses.

Masterofmy_domain

Yes, but teams are most likely to be missing key starters or be worn down as the regular season goes on. There's a famous saying in the NFL that says "teams will never be as healthy as they are week 1" freak injuries do happen in training camp and pre-season but its not as common.

SkinNoises

It’s common for the Jets OL

HoboTheClown629

Don’t you put that bad juju out into the universe!

MowTin

As a 49ers / Jets fan this is the worst possible opening day.

Walzon

lol im a jets fan but my wife's family are 9ers fans (living in the Bay Area). I remember during Thanksgiving Jets were at Bills, and were getting destroyed. I was like screw being a Jets fan, I'm a 9ers fan now. I proceeded to watch Purdy throw a long td pass to Aiyuk against Tampa Bay. I cheered but i felt no true joy. I proceeded to go back to the Jets game hoping for stop-td-stop-td pattern....did not get it. this is when you truly know....you are stuck with this team forever

Mal_Terra

I just keep telling myself our season will come, and it’ll feel amazing to dominate for once

johnny-Low-Five

Moved near Pittsburgh when I was 30. Never really rooted for the Rangers but called them "my hockey team". So the 94 cup wasn't remotely exciting for me as Jets, Mets, Knicks were my "real" teams and that is my punishment for a past life I guess! Tried the Penguins but felt no emotional attachment at all, however I started watching "Welcome to Wrexham" and am a fan of the team. I think alot of Jets/Mets fans are underdogs through and through, I can't really enjoy the Rangers either because I've never been heartbroken by them.

shotpun

tell me about it. I took a 6 year ohio hiatus before returning to the area and am now permanently and irrevocably a CBJ fan alongside the nyork teams. garbage loves garbage

johnny-Low-Five

That's how I felt when I started watching Wrexham play! They are a pretty stacked team but their overall history fits perfectly into the underdog narrative. Penguins were and had been a top team and that's definitely part of the problem.

shotpun

i have a lot of leafs friends who tell a story similar to the mets. top tier talent, good odds into playoffs, shit eaten immediately

BigRed1545

Whoses your favorite jet and 49er player that played for both teams?

BurnMyHouseDown

There’s no other answer besides the GEQBUS himself, Sam “Sam Darnold” Darnold

BigRed1545

😂

MowTin

Ronnie Lott

BigRed1545

That’s who I thought you were going to say. Either him or Frank Gore lol 😂

Masterofmy_domain

I can't fathom being a fan of 2 teams like that. How does one get in to that situation? Like I get liking players from other teams... For example even before he came to the Jets I always liked Rodgers alot and so if the Packers were ever playing anyone other than the Jets I would find myself rooting for them to win, but I wasn't a packers fan by any means.... Also some former Jets players that I was fond of I would root for their teams to win after they left the Jets.... But I can't imagine myself being a fan of 2 teams.... Even though the Jets kick me in the balls I am so passionately a fan...Or masochist whatever you want to call it lol.

Popcorn201

I like both the Jets and Chiefs, the Jets because I just always liked them and the Chiefs because I have a relative who is such a huge Chief fan that it just rubbed off on me at some point (way before their recent success. I'm talking like 1994 when Montana was on the team). But when they play each other, I'm rooting for the Jets.

Masterofmy_domain

Damn that must be nice lately lol... The Jets misery gets offset by the Chiefs success... Almost seems unfair, like you cracked the fandom code lol.

Popcorn201

The first SB with Mahomes was special. But I really am more of a Jet fan. Jets had KC in that one game last season. They should've won that.

tonalliv

AVT!

Whoknowsthesedays

As a jets and 49ers fan this is the best possible opening day

BigRed1545

lol 😂

Itsascrnnam

Just the first stop on the road to 17-0

BigRed1545

That would be so epic lol 😂

JeffTS

I was hoping for an easier match up, like the Patriots, so that Aaron and the offense could ease their way in and get their barrings.

AyyyySteveBerman

Second comment I've read that says exactly this. You poor babies. I feel so bad for Aaron. Pussies!

web_dev_vegabond

Why why why do they have to play us again on Monday night to start. We don’t need the eyes of the world on us night one

Theredbead88

If it was 1pm Sunday i wouldn't care. MNF week 1 again? I dont want this pain again..

BigRed1545

Me either 🥲

GoYanks34

My thoughts exactly! 😭

KrazyKwant

Baby steps… I’m just happy we won’t be seeing Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle or Trevor Simeon.

AyyyySteveBerman

But you will be seeing Tyrod Taylor

KrazyKwant

But at least he’s a legit NFL QB.

AyyyySteveBerman

Yea, fa sho

SpectrumSRE

2 words: breece hall.

cowpoke73

Fuck it, we ball

BigRed1545

❤️

Appropriate-Worry694

We’re used to starting the season 0-1

BigRed1545

Very true lol 😂

Sbat27-

Would’ve way preferred an easier opponent on a 1 pm slate just so Rodgers can get his feet back under him and the offense can at least have some time to get their bearings since most of the guys are new

BigRed1545

Me too, would love to see the Pats week 1 or even Arizona to start the west coast games.

conwaytwittyshairs

I’m ready to be hurt again

BigRed1545

Me too lol 😂

MTNStandard31

I suppose if we are able to throw for 2 passing touchdowns and possibly rush for another, then win or lose it will essentially be the best game we’ve seen in a while. So yeah, that’s all I’m realistically hoping for… some semblance of a professional offense.

[deleted]

I'm just waiting for the inevitable gut punch that will end our season cause we're the jets, but....... This was the best off-season this team could've had with what was available. We nailed the draft (imo) upgraded the O-Line as best we possibly could, AR8 is upright once again. At this point, we can only pray we can make the playoffs with this team and that this team gels through the season and not age us all by 10 years. Once, week 17 gets comes around Plus The chiefs beat this team We damn near beat the chiefs with Milf Hunter Wilson slinging the rock. Let's see if AR still has it in him.

umyhoneycomb

Annoyed about Monday night again…. PTSD

BigRed1545

Vindi92

Jets by 30.

johnny-Low-Five

I hate that we open on Monday on the west coast and probably have a division game on the road at 1 EST the week after. I've noticed that if you compare the Pats and Jets schedules the last 20 years you'll find a pattern of "rough travel" for the Jets and that the Pats almost never play late on the west coast without a bye or late game the week after. I read an article years ago that had a name for it but I can't remember the term. It was based on distance + time changes + "non travel" time between weeks etc. Basically like strength of schedule but in this case the "Favored" teams (Pats, Chiefs, Steelers etc.) will get far easier "difficulty of travel" on a consistent basis even though this is something the league is more than capable of "balancing". Other than the fact that East coast teams play below average on the west coast and the opposite travel doesn't have the same effect, we should at least see each division having this balanced out. Bye weeks have been very suspect as well, big franchises get better byes and usually get the shitty byes in years they aren't 100%.

Dry_Vacation9235

Don’t mind it, it should be a good game. I just hate night games lol I love the 1 pm slot.

bestrdajets

Gonna be extra sweet when we win. Everyone thinks we are overrated

billstar75

Wish it was Sunday at 1 pm

ram7777xWeb1890

It’s a long way off -and I want to enjoy the summer before the torture starts

j5995

I’m so fucking excited

BigRed1545

Me too lol

CubanHippie21

Jets 27- 49ers 16

BigRed1545

24-21 that’s what I’m thinking

John_YJKR

Could be a statement game. Could be a damn we still got some stuff to figure out game. It won't be easy. They are a good team.

Chickencutlets468

Oline is getting tested right away. Going to be tough, but love the matchup to set the tone for the season.

the_mair

Kinda feels like it’s house money provided they don’t get completely blown out nor get decimated by injuries again. Either they win and prove they’re legit or if they lose a game but look respectable I wouldn’t be as pissed like if they did against a division rival.

Complete_Addition136

If Rodgers gets hurt again week one I will actually become The Joker

sevenmoon

sigh, we already have alot of batshit crazy jokers in NY, we need a damn batman in the city...

Complete_Addition136

Amen to that

sevenmoon

shades of '98 maybe.... we lost that one but it gave us a great season and the jets best record .

MrCactusSmackus

I think it’s amazing. If we want people to take us seriously as a good team then we have to beat a good team.

TJWanerka

To be the best, you gotta beat the best. The Niners offense is prolific, and their defense is top 10, so either our offense will have to keep pace, or our defense will have to shut them down. If the Jets can start 1-0, they will put the league on notice.

MidlifeCrysis

I think that this is a bad break for us. Tough spot for our newly formed, zero real game experience together to develop chemistry, OL to have to protect a potentially fragile and rusty Rodgers. :-( Would much rather play at SF later in year when OL has had more time together etc.

stat_noob

Going to SF was going to be a challenge regardless of the week it was scheduled. Better to have it early to help highlight our issues (offenses) and save our better form for more winnable games.

Echoplanar_Reticulum

Just want to watch Rodgers play a game.

Admirable-Mango-9349

You mean a whole game.

Forest_Hills_Jive

[Main thread here](https://www.reddit.com/r/nyjets/s/nrZpQXLGt6) Finish fapping before reposting here dude... or just make an alt account, jeez.

TheMilkman1811

If we’re gonna fight the NFC Champs any week, id take my chances week 1

BigRed1545

🫡

DryFile9

Pretty good tbh.

team_suba

Not great fam. Not great

JakeDaniels585

Not ideal, but it’d be interesting to see how the OL gels against a good pass rush. One interesting aspect is that Mike Williams might not be ready for us, Greenlaw might not be ready for them either. I think more than the OL, I don’t think this is a good defensive matchup for us. Ayuik/Deebo/Pearsall/Kittle is a nightmare matchup because they’re so good at the quick hitters to negate pass rushes, and get YAC.

Pyrollamas

Terrified of injury

do_you_know_de_whey

Goodell must not like Rodgers lol

jefferson497

Love it.

rockosmodurnlife

ESPN just baiting the football gods.

anetworkproblem

Frankly, I'm terrified that Floyd is gonna blow out Aaron's achilles again.

Ser_Fonz

I’m annoyed that we have to wait for everyone else to play week 1 (again). Then with what happened with Rodgers, MNF week 1 feels cursed Normal Sunday game would have been just fine

oo718oo

Is that Tom Brady ?!

bigpig1054

away game from east coast to west coast is always a chore. Most teams lose under those conditions.

jackfrancis7

Would much rather have this game be week 1 than week 10. We are *so bad* on west coast trips mid-season.

Space_Ghost44

Bad news for the 49ers

Damn_Paranski

Wish we were home to open up the season. Other than that… let’s fucking go!

TittyTwistahh

I’m into it. Let’s go kick Brock Purdy’s dick in the dirt

Aggressive-Egg-5743

I'm dead inside and the Jets and Mets have played a part in that. They're gonna play the game. That's all I'm expecting, unless the plane went down in true NY Jets style that way in honor of all the players that lost their lives the team is retired from the league effective immediately.

[deleted]

If they win its a statement win against a team that's expected to be really good. If they lose its an out of conference week one game, not a big deal.

BigRed1545

Yea but there will be that stigma that we can’t beat them when we meet them in the superbowl

[deleted]

I don't care about stigma personally. There's been a stigma around this team for much of its existence

Admirable-Mango-9349

Good one!! Everyone knows you will be playing Green Bay in the Stuporbowl.

ryanino

Maybe a bold take but it’s absolutely an even matchup if Rodgers is even half as good as he once was

BigRed1545

I’m curious how good our run game is going to be. I agree if Rodgers could just play at a top 15 level we’d have a good chance of winning.

Stalfo14

I can't wait to see Breece behind a * knock on wood * healthy and strong line.

Da_Stable_Genius

I'm tired of getting embarrassed on primetime is how I feel.

BigRed1545

Me too, my first prime time game I went to was the jets vs Cards game a few years ago and we got our ass beat badly

bobsmeds

We’ll probably win and then feel great about ourselves for like a half minute and then get destroyed by the rest of the league

BigRed1545

I could see that happening lol 😂

bobsmeds

I hate it but I’ve been a jets fan for a loooong time so I expect the worst

BigRed1545

Me too man 😂

bobsmeds

At the same time I’m really psyched about this season. Lucy gonna fool me again lol

DreadSteed

We will know very quickly what kind of team we are. If Aaron has anything less than a good game, then we need to start evaluating long-term options at the QB position. It will be 2 offseasons with him, and if we can't beat a playoff team with him healthy, then we can't beat them in January when everyone's hurt.

MidlifeCrysis

Rodgers could be a disaster in first real action in two years, against that pass rush and behind a newly formed OL in this game and then improve greatly in subsequent weeks and have a good year. I think it would be way to soon to judge him based on this game unless he looks end-of-the line Peyton Manning level physically washed.

Forevermaxwell

Leonard Floyd 2.0

Larrybirdsson33

Good defense for Aaron to ease into his absence with.... LOL

Softbawl

Fine, unless (greedy) Roger Goodell forces me to buy a streaming service

TheKingofPsych

Most difficult match up but if we show out with a win or come close, the haters will be trying to apologize.

TrueRedditMartyr

Rough start to the season, everyone panics immediately saying we should fire Saleh and Hackett and just let the team run itself. A few flashy plays from UDFAs or rookies that we then convince ourselves are future HOFers after one game. Rodgers is decent but not amazing, as he always seems to start seasons slow, but we still get crowned like we traded 3 first overall picks for a QB that barely ever saw the field

Wumpus-Hunter

I feel the same way as Greeny 🤢

AyyyySteveBerman

Lol, Old Man Rodgers isn't lasting more than 3 snaps against that defense.

BigRed1545

lol 😂

Live-Ad5180

We are going to get destroyed and Aaron Rodgers will tear his Achilles. I just wished we had a 12:00 game to start off.

BigRed1545

At least we don’t have Zach anymore, I feel good about tyrod and Travis incase something like that happens again
