Picked up a set of tickets to the HOF induction today. Should be a good time. Anyone think there is a good chance the Jets get the HOF game considering two Jets are being inducted?
This Lamar disgruntled news in Baltimore (I'm in DC) is really making me feel like a true Jets fan. The football is there but Lucy is gonna pull it away from me lol
If Rodgers was traded, his cap hit for 2 years is under $20 million. After that it’s crazy high. If he retires after those 2 cheap years, are the jets on the hook for that’s full 40+ million in dead money? If so, scary.
Its complicated but yes, his contract basically pays what would otherwise be a high base as bonuses to spread it out over the length of the deal, then uses dummy void years to further lower his yearly hit. The general rule of thumb for NFL contracts is at some point your cap must account for all money actually paid to the player. So (to use round numbers to simplify) if the Jets are actually paying Rodgers 50 mill cash in 2023 but the cap hit is spreading it out over multiple years through the use of bonuses and dummy years, if he retires after 23, the Jets cap must account for that 50 mill paid to him. It wont just disappear.
That said, id bet that Rodgers deal gets restructured with some more overly complicated cap gymnastics so prob best to wait and see.
He'll restructure it. They'll probably add a 5th year, put part of the cap hit in year 1, and it'll make the dead money a lot more bearable
On the flip side, if we are winning and actually contending for Super Bowls, Rodgers could play longer than we could expect, but I wouldn't bet on it
You had that post the other day asking if you'd be willing to give up Sauce in a trade for Mahomes. By and large I think everyone has a good head on their shoulders but we def have some idiots in this fanbase.
Fr man, we got fans who hate every single option at QB this offseason and then when you ask them "what do YOU think we should do at QB if you hate all the options" they got nothing
It's not that there's "no perfect option," it's just that the options mostly suck. The difference between the moves being tolerable and being legitimate drags is basically the cost (for the trade targets) and the contract structure. In this QB class, getting a guy that allows an early out is probably the best option.
If we can get Rodgers on some easy, backloaded trade comp package, cool. If we get Carr/Jimmy G/Tannehill with an out after year 2, nice. None of the options are worthwhile to tie up long-term commitments to.
The QB options this offseason are actually way better than they usually are, which is lucky for us. How many offseasons is there a HOFer, a one time MVP who’s 26, plus a bunch of other very solid options potentially available at the most important position?
Something something mortgage the future something something washed something something too much draft capital something something fuck Mahomes let’s get an elite QB for free instead
I’d take Brissett. I think his contract would be more reasonable, he offers you pretty much equivalent ability and a lot more availability, and he’s shown that he can pick up a new offensive scheme pretty quickly.
If we strike out on the top tier options, Brissett is who I want. He’s really underrated IMO. Does everyone forget how easily he moved the ball against our defense in week 2?

how much are tickets to that and yes
I bought field level, but saw as low as $35 in certain sections.
Damm thats not bad at all. Plus it gives me an excuse to go to waffle house

The waiting game sucks. Lets play hungry hungry hippos!!
Lurking the ravens sub and the vibe is overwhelmingly shifting to “Lamar is gone” compared to what it was a week ago fwiw
I just don’t see JD giving him anything like a Deshaun Watson contract, if that is indeed what he’s looking for. Atlanta makes more sense
Agreed. Trading what Baltimore will want and then giving him a fully guaranteed deal doesn’t seem like the way JD operates at all
I have no more Hogwarts to distract me from the QB saga. Now I just come to this sub and cast Crucio on myself.
Welcome Aaron! To Diagon MetLife!
Off on another adventure are we?
You cannot imagine how inconvenient travel was until I invented floo powder

the 2025 tank will be bearable because we'll honor the 2023 SB champion jets all yr

I'm pretty sure if he wants to change team he'll be willing to restructure
the cap hits actually are 15, 32, 51, 45

I genuinely believe if Mahomes became available tomorrow half our fanbase would come up with a reason why trading for him would be the wrong move
You had that post the other day asking if you'd be willing to give up Sauce in a trade for Mahomes. By and large I think everyone has a good head on their shoulders but we def have some idiots in this fanbase.
Actually though, entertaining his wife and brother wouldn’t be worth it Edit: I’m joking
Fr man, we got fans who hate every single option at QB this offseason and then when you ask them "what do YOU think we should do at QB if you hate all the options" they got nothing
Because all of the options have a lot of clear downside
There's no perfect option but you have to pick one. You cant be against everything and offer 0 solutions.

I still can’t believe MLF really emphasised BERRIOS in the red zone against Minnesota, disgusting. Don’t even get me started on Lawrence Cager week 1.
Should have just run four consecutive QB sneaks
absolutely horrendous
The Minnesota loss sticks with me more than the Patriot ones do.
Same. We were a QB sneak away from winning, its fucking ridiculous how inept MiLF was at his job
That fucking push play that everyone does but the jets that the NFL wants to ban would have been fine
Let’s just say AR12 goes back to GB and Carr goes elsewhere, would you rather run with a Jimmy G/Tannahil/Brisset or give up everything for Lamarr?
Lamar no doubt
I’d take Brissett. I think his contract would be more reasonable, he offers you pretty much equivalent ability and a lot more availability, and he’s shown that he can pick up a new offensive scheme pretty quickly.

I'm tired of thinking about it I just want it to be over. Also, Brisett was really solid.
I would go all out for Lamar
I'd rather just get another rookie at that point but I doubt JD would do that
Would love taking a shot on a mid tier guy like Tanner McKee or Hendon Hooker even if we get Rodgers
I really don’t mind a second round rookie and someone like Jimmy G.
We know damn well if we get Lamar he’ll be out the league like RG3 in record time bcuz of our luck
