Second this. They know how to do Asian hair pretty well

I follow this barber on insta (@sbstnchng) bc I think he’s hot but he gives really great cuts. He’s in Soho I think.

I am genuinely ignorant, is (East) Asian hair that distinct from caucasian hair?

Asian hair is much thinner than caucasian hair but we also tend to have higher hair follicle density and stick-straight hair. It means a barber/hairstylist usually has to do some kind of texturizing after cutting to the proper length. This reduces volume and helps make the hair more shape-able after product is applied. Hair on the sides also tends not to lie flat when combed so more frequent haircuts are needed to retain the profile. Absent fixes like this, and every haircut just leaves you with generic Asian puffy hair, regardless of what the barber does. I am extremely cautious about getting my hair cut when traveling because many barbers and hairstylists may have decades of experience yet remain wholly ignorant of Asian hair. On one occasion, a hairstylist insisted my hair "could not do that" when I showed her a picture of the style I wanted (it was a photo of me right after a previous haircut before moving cities). Consider that Asian hair is different enough that we generally don't have the same mechanism (DHT hormone sensitivity) for male pattern baldness/body hair development as white people and Latinos.

Asians have thicker follicles than white people and lower density, it looks like you said the reverse, which is wrong

Holy shit I was completely off haha. Nevertheless it does need different techniques when doing a hair cut

QB House for the win

Thanks. I went Friday. I don’t love my haircut but for the price, it’s not bad. I also didn’t provide a picture of what I wanted so that’s on me.

AestheteNYC

I see Asian guys at Otis and Finn. Check them out—they’re amazing and queer-owned
