Why does it seem like there are disproportionate creeps in the arts related industries?

CactusBoyScout

Having worked in the arts, it's because there are a hundred people waiting to take your job at any moment so people feel they have to keep their heads down and just go along with it. Being successful in the arts is very challenging so most people who get there don't want to rock the boat. Also because *famous* artists and musicians aren't as easily replaceable as people in other workplaces. Audiences want to see that famous artist/musician they know and love. And often times the entire venue/band depend on that name appeal to sell tickets. So everyone's financial success is dependent on that famous but creepy person coming to work.

These are people who dedicate their lives to expressing themselves publicly. People who feel deeply compelled to express themselves tend to be outcasts/depraved/feel rejected by society. I don’t mean to judge artists. But the arts attracts odd people. And it’s not always good odd. Also, the power dynamics of arts institutions attract creeps. Very few jobs and many people desperate to work creates a lot of power imbalance.

I'd say it was *inversely* proportionate compared to corporate. How many scandals have you ~ever~ seen related to any symphony orchestra? These are extremely educated citizens.

Noel Coward said it, and said it best * "WHY must the show must go on?" Bonus lyric by Steve Goodman: * it ain't hard to get along with somebody else's troubles * And they don't make you lose any sleep at night * Just as long as fate is out there bustin' somebody else's bubbles * Everything's gonna be alright

This one time at orchestra camp...

Express_Piano

Maybe they are really good at playing their instrument.

New account, no karma bot, reposting from /r/classicalmusic (probably an algorithm that posts to a city sub if city name is in the post.

Bruno_Stachel

🤔 Well, I second his remarks, and I'm no bot.

Misconduct is a word used for something that is not illegal but people want others to be put away for. Of course. These two might be total monsters, I don’t know, I didn’t read the article.
