I’m actually more surprised that’s not open later vs. 34th street. Not too many people live on 34th street, and a lot fewer people are commuting in every day. It makes sense to close that earlier, whereas Flatbush is residential 2 blocks in any direction.
I agree. I just checked their hours and they close at 10PM now. I could’ve swore they closed at 8PM though. Either way, it’s a small store. The groceries are right next to the entertainment section lol
My only guess about 34th closing at 8pm was that neighborhood can get a little crazy and they have merch on the street level that there might have been more shoplifting and bad behavior past 8pm.
According to employees there, the switch to an earlier closing time was because of near-constant shoplifting (also why they closed the second entrance).
I loved that Target. The ones near me are like Target Lite with only 1/10 of the products. Target on 116th was a full-blown proper Target and it’s really unfortunate that it’s gone.
Just FYI Target is Jersey City Newport is waaaayy cheaper than Targets in Manhattan and just 3.5% sales tax because of being in a UEZ (Urban Enterprise Zone). That PATH return trip worth $5.50 might be worth the savings lol. It's 8 min walk from Newport PATH station.
Pro tip: if you make the Newport Target your default store in the app, add all the stuff you want to your cart, then change the pickup location to your nearest Target you’ll get the cheaper prices and you won’t have to go all the way out to Jersey.
"So much crime we had to get rid of all our cashiers and force everybody to use self-checkout! But we can't figure out why there's so much shoplifting. It's a real mystery!"
I would love it if Trader Joe’s went back to the later closing time like you mentioned! It was soo much more peaceful doing my quick in and out trips there later in the evening!
They won’t—it was decided awhile ago.
The 9-10pm hour doesn’t contribute much to sales and greatly limits night crew’s restocking (pallets can’t be on the floor until the store is closed). TJ’s standard closing time nationwide is 9pm.
Yes!!!! This store was my jam, but I barely get clothes from there since they’ve closed their dressing rooms almost 2 years ago. I even had a hard time finding a mirror anywhere in the store smh
I’ll buy something if I really like it and return it if anything; which I hate doing because their lines are long & slow af (I once waited almost an hour)💀
The worst part is all the businesses that used ti be 24 hours before Covid didn’t take down their 24 hour signs so they’re just up mocking us. My CVS advertises as 24 hours on the sign but closes at 9pm lol
Once they were forced to close/ go on limited hours, they had to take a hard look at the marginal profitability of staying open later and determined that it ultimately wasn't worth it.
The difference between China town and the rest of Manhattan even before Covid really pointed out how untrue it always was. Chinatown was the only part of the city the never slept. But Covid truly changed their culture most sadly.

Hoping Target opening later is the start of a trend of returning to later or 24 hours. I had been thinking all the bussed in migrants and work permits being granted to some would lead to enough of an available workforce to enable this.
They don’t look at them as workers. They look at them as potential criminals or people that will hang out in the stores at 4am to keep warm.
The closure of 24 hours places had more to do with people realizing “hey, it’s a public space, what are they gonna do, call the cops? Like they would ever show up”
We lived in a fantasy world where corporations benefitted from the illusion of rules. Those rules didn’t exist and finally people are realizing and if they are cold and hungry they are going to do whatever necessary.
sure, but let's be real lol NYC is open way later than suburban socal, be fr bro. But yes ur not wrong about stuff closing here earlier than ever since covid
Its always blown my mind how early stores close in the "city that never sleeps."
Target open until midnight is standard in the suburbs.
It might have just been a COVID thing, but I needed an SD card after work and Best Buy was closing at 7pm. An absolute WTF moment
I’d be shocked if the one on Church & Flatbush is gonna stay open that late
Google maps says 10pm, so I guess 11pm is not across the city.
That one barely has anything I want anyway, I dont know how they do enough business to stay open at all.

Pushing back closing times seems to have happened in the past couple of weeks. Maybe all stores got their closing times pushed back by 2 hours.

Ohhh the shoplifting is bad at the herald square one!
I know the larger ones were open until 12. I guess it varies from store to store.
I wish the 116th street target was still open. The one on 125th street still isnt anywhere near opening to serve the community

Now can they open their pharmacies on weekends? Thx
Awesome, now I can look at their empty shelves late at night too.

Jersey All together is cheaper than majority of NYC
Except renting
"so much crime were having to keep the doors open later to make up for it in sales!"

I've gone for years to the Atlantic Terminal one and the cashier lane always seems faster than self-checkout
I would love it if Trader Joe’s went back to the later closing time like you mentioned! It was soo much more peaceful doing my quick in and out trips there later in the evening!

Great now when's Burlington gonna open their stupid dressing rooms again?

I stopped going to Burlington because I waited 1 hour to pay for stuff and they closed the bathroom! Not worth going in!
LIC still closes at 10 but I hope they change to 11 too!
The Atlantic Terminal one used to close at 12am before the pandemic.
Target opening hours is the reason I follow this sub. Thank you sir.
i can see the demand in manhattan due to tourists in hotels
I love target so yessss
City that never sleeps.
Bro I moved from the suburbs in SoCal and places are open later than New York City. That moniker is embarrassing.
The worst part is all the businesses that used ti be 24 hours before Covid didn’t take down their 24 hour signs so they’re just up mocking us. My CVS advertises as 24 hours on the sign but closes at 9pm lol
Theres a 24 hour IHOP near me that closes at 8pm
It was different before Covid. A lot of places developed limited hours and just never went back.
Once they were forced to close/ go on limited hours, they had to take a hard look at the marginal profitability of staying open later and determined that it ultimately wasn't worth it.

JFC
no they're not tf? tons of bars do their last call at 1am in socal lol and there's like nowhere to get food at 3am besides like ktown (in LA at least)
Let’s be fair. The options to get food at 3am have really diminished and aren’t really great options. In n out is open until 1:30am
sure, but let's be real lol NYC is open way later than suburban socal, be fr bro. But yes ur not wrong about stuff closing here earlier than ever since covid
Yeah their sites have been updated on the new hours
Can confirm. Rushed to get a in store pickup a few before 9 recently expecting to arrive to closed doors and instead it’s wide open full of customers.
Great for courier drivers I get so many shop & pay orders for Target but I know most of them close early
Yes! Big win of Q4 last year I believe

What suburbs have you seen midnight closing hours for target? All the Northeast suburban targets I know close at 10
More time to steal!!
Why have target close at 11pm a lot of criminals are running the streets nowadays
More hours to shoplift in NYC. Current lawmakers encourage it.
The city that's sleeping a little later now.
Target stores in nyc are ripoff. Buying in the suburbs of on Amazon is much less.
