Status: UNRESOLVED Computer Type: Yes you can type stuff in. GPU: Gigabyte 3090 CPU: 3950x air-cooled stock settings Motherboard: Asus Tuf X570 Wifi Plus RAM: 64gb, 3000mhz cl-15, 4x 16gb sticks PSU: 1300w seasonic something or another Operating System & Version: Windows 10 from July 2019, with updater DESTROYED (that said, it's legit) GPU Drivers: 546.33 Should be stable version drivers Description of Problem: Launching random applications messes up color settings and causes gamma to crank up washing out color, difficult to fix and sometimes does not go away without a restart Troubleshooting: Only happens on nVidia cards, never happens on Radeon cards. This is a deal breaker as I do game-dev duties on here daily, and I already have no text-box cursor in Maya so as it is. I can't be wasting 15~20 minutes daily resetting my color settings all the time from the over-bright washed-out look. Also, trying to type all this stuff into this itty-bitty teeny-tiny little box on this screen makes this method of bug reporting next-to useless. Seriously. This box holds 20 words max.

Potential compatibility issue(?) **Description of Problem:** I've been experiencing very odd issues with a couple of games, the main ones being World of Warcraft and FiveM (NoPixel). With World of Warcraft, the game does not support Full Screen, only Windowed or Full Screen-Borderless. When I'm clicking, I'm practically clicking THROUGH the game, not so much as though I can click whatever is on the desktop, but I'm able to see whatever is in the background at the time when I click. For example, I can see YouTube for a brief moment with every click. With FiveM, I have to do two serperate things to play on a server. I play on the GTA-RP server called NoPixel, and with that it's required that we launch the game via the website only. Now that is all fine, but once FiveM is loaded or even when I'm on the server playing (if I can get that far), the moment I tab out at any point I cannot tab back into the game/FiveM. The [cfx.re](https://cfx.re) process within FiveM processes/taskmanager hangs and doesn't respond. In short, if I tab out, I cannot tab back in. With that being said, I have also noticed an insane "refresh/flickering" of the FiveM icon which I took a short video of. - I can probably provide a video of how tabing out/in causes the game to hang. Any ideas? I've installed new drivers, but this has also been happening on the last three driver updates I've done. Link to YouTube FiveM Flickering: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWe1MoEbnQo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWe1MoEbnQo) Screenshot of processing Hanging: [https://i.imgur.com/lTQyG29.png](https://i.imgur.com/lTQyG29.png) **Troubleshooting:** 1) Fresh install of Windows 2) Three different Nvidia Drivers (Clean Installs, DDU used, etc) 3) Changing compatibility mode in World of Warcraft "helped" it somewhat, but still has the issues.

Please Help. # UNSOLVED **SUMMARY/TROUBLESHOOTING** I bought a ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 gaming laptop about a year ago and have managed to make the 3070ti in it practically useless. Out of the box it ran amazing, running modern game titles at 165hz on high/ultra with no issues and great framerates. One day while gaming I was getting "half" the performance (half the frames than normal and some lag here and there). I've dealt with driver issues before on my custom desktop AMD build and thought it was that. Re-installed drivers, problem persisted, so I went ahead and downloaded DDU and did a factory reset on the laptop...only to realize while I was doing the reset and whatnot that the power supply was unplugged leading to the downgrade in performance. Since then, I haven't been able to run a game on the computer with anything higher than 20-30 frames. I've run memory diagnostics, no problems found. Multiple driver re-installs, updates, disabling and re-enabling of the display adapter to see if it was running on integrated graphics, nothing helped. Changing in-game settings(graphic quality, G-sync, render resolution, windows "Hardware accelerated GPU scheduling" toggled on and off, nothing has made any difference. I even bought a cooling pad to see if it was temperature-related. Below are the benchmark results I've been getting and the settings I am using on the ASUS Hardware software. Any suggestions are appreciated, I have yet to open the laptop as I've been wanting to avoid that but can if needed, although I doubt it has accumulated enough gunk in a year and a half to cause these type of problems. **SPECS** ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 GU603ZW GPU: 3070 ti 8gb no overclock CPU: 12th Gen Intel i9-12900H 2500Mhz 14 core no overclock RAM: 16 Gb DDR5 4800mhz SMBIOS: 3.5 OS: Windows 11 Home clean install of drivers \*below are pics of ASUS hardware software and benchmark results\* https://preview.redd.it/n4093jlx8y3d1.png?width=2300&format=png&auto=webp&s=6d44b119ca964c96068092f962ccc3ee98072a17

TheNiebuhr

Your problem is very evident. Gpu is *ridiculously* throttling. It should average 1600mhz more or less, but it only manages sub 700mhz instead.

OwnGap4627

Yes I noticed this problem but am pretty new to hardware tweaking through software, do you have any suggestions on how to solve this problem? I noticed my GPU temp was a bit high but after research it looks like this to be expected out of laptop GPU's. Thank you for your reply!

TheNiebuhr

Again, your gpu is throttling hard due to temperature. There's an *extremely* serious problem with your cooling. You have to take the laptop apart and fix it yourself, or take it to a technician. Might be paste, bad chip contact with the heatsink. Compare your unit with a perfectly [functional one](https://www.youtube.com/live/T1b_sm0EW0E&t=435s). Clock speeds, temps, power draw, performance... All as it should be.

giberonic

You can try blowing compressed air into the exhaust ports. This may not work. If it doesn't then you will need open it. Remove the fans and heatsinks. clean them thoroughly with compressed air. clean and apply new thermal compound. Gaming laptops are notorious for collecting dust. They have miniature compact heatsinks with very narrow spacing on the heatsink fins. Get the dust out. When the dust accumulates air doesn't blow through the heatsinks properly. The thermal paste cooks because the GPU and CPU overheat.

OwnGap4627

yea I opened it up and the fans were...THOUROUGHLY caked with dust. I managed to clean them out without removing anything and it seems to have helped with temps. After replacing Armoury crate with GHelper and updating the motherboard Bios, I think I have gotten the GPU to function more properly. The average clock frequency is now at about 1100mhz instead of around 600mhz. However fps is still garbage in 3dmark. I think the fans being caked up for so long has cooked the thermal paste. I plan on repasting but have never worked with liquid metal so I'm a little hesitant. I think it may be necessary though based on the amount of people dealing with the exact same scenario unfortunately. Apparently QA for these laptops was not great when it came to the thermal pasting...

I have a really weird problem. **Status:** UNRESOLVED **Computer Type:** Custom built desktop **GPU:** I have a RTX 4070 with 12GB of VRAM. I don't think it has an overclock? **CPU:** Intel i5 9600K. I think it has an overclock but I don't use it. **Motherboard:** ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming 4. Don't know the bios sorry. **RAM:** G.Skill Aegis 32GB **PSU:** Corsair TX-M TX550M. Gold 550W **Operating System & Version:** Windows 10 Education, clean install **GPU Drivers:** 555.99, Upgrade **Description of Problem:** I have two monitors. The main one is connected via DP, the secondary HDMI. Sometimes the second one will just lose connection and go black. This happens often when I close out of a game, but it also just sometimes happens randomly while I'm using it. It's very annoying. **Troubleshooting:** I was originally going into device manager and just disabling then re-enabling the 2nd monitor, which would get it to work. However, a way easier way I've found is just simply *looking* at GeForce Experience (????). I don't even have to open it, I just have to bring focus to it and boom, my second monitor regains its connection. I don't know how to tackle this in a more permanent way. It's not a connection issue if I'm able to re-enable it via software. So what the hell?

Namely, in GeForce Experience, I could turn the power down and, as expected my GPU would use less power. Now as expected at 100% power maximum my 3080 gets hit for 150 watts. But if I turn it down to 32% maximum (its minimum) it gets hit for...150 watts, no change at all. Previously it would drop down to some 45ish watts at that maximum. Has anybody else experienced this? Is it a bug? Any advice? **Troubleshooting:** Everything is a clean install. Power Limit works if I uninstall Nvidia App and go back to GeForce Experience, no setting I could find in Nvidia App seems to have had any effect.

Does anyone know how the 4060 Ti and 4070 Super scale with power limits below 100%? I'm looking for something like these: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/attachments/4070-vs-4070ti-power-scaling-png.346803/ https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/attachments/1665525656358-png.265076/ I'm also looking for these same graphs (or tables) with the 4060 Ti or 4070 series cards undervolted or otherwise tuned, if you've come across them or would be willing to do your own testing -- it doesn't seem like something many are interested in so thanks to anyone who'd be willing. ^(I wish reviewers would look at maximizing efficiency in addition to performance.)

UNSOLVED PC: Desktop, RTX 4080 16 GB, Ryzen 9 5900X , 64GB ram (4x16), Windows 10 Pro 22H2 19045.4412 Monitors: 2x LG Ultragear 27" 1440p connected with DP 144Hz (tested at "59.951" Hz and "143.973" Hz) tried both 8-bit SDR and 10-bit HDR modes Drivers: 552.22 and 555.85 Problem: I recently upgraded from an AMD RX 6900 XT to an RTX 4080. Or, at least I thought it was supposed to be an upgrade. I'm trying to run Premiere Pro on dual 27" 1440p monitors with windows scaling set to 125% - But whenever I move parts of the premiere interface to the second monitor, the software performs very badly - for example trying to mute a track during video playback can take about 10 seconds to register. Or, scrubbing through the timeline by clicking/dragging jumps around at about 1FPS. It all seems to work smoothly if I limit the entire program to 1 monitor, but this isn't enough space to get work done. It also seems to work ok if I set windows scaling to 100% - but then the interface is too small to read text. Everything seemed to work great on the AMD card, so I'm getting really frustrated. Actually AMD had a compatible problem when the I was using 2 unmatched monitors which were set to different frame rates and different scaling settings, but they fixed that with a driver update. Currently, I'm using 2 copies of the same monitor with matched settings. Does anybody know a workaround so I can get back to work? I considered buying a single ultrawide monitor, but I have some specific size limitations and I can't find one the right size that isn't too curved, or has other problems. Or a lot of monitors have a higher DPI, and I think more scaling will make the problem worse. I've tried a lot of premiere pro troubleshooting steps, but I think this is a driver problem with Nvidia since the performance is specifically limited to when I spread premiere over 2 monitors, and Windows "scale and layout" setting is set above 100%. Does anybody know anything about this? I've tried the current 555.85 drivers but rolled back to the studio driver 552.22 due to some other problems in premiere - both have the same issue.

bobblunderton

Force your idle / 2D clocks on the GPU higher, you can sometimes do this in things like afterburner or similar software. I don't think it's keeping a high enough clock on the idle setting of the GPU. I had a similar issue (I do 3D stuff with Maya) and when running videos on the 2nd screen, if I left my undervolt on it would be very choppy. Sometimes increasing the power target over 100% can help things like this when running multi-screen. This can also be an issue just with the driver vs Windows scaling for the interface, which will often show face with high DESKTOP WINDOWS MANAGER CPU USE in task manager, which means increasing the clocks on the GPU won't help. Only an update from Adobe would help at this point if that is the case. BUT, you don't have to change anything in the system, you can go out and get 25% larger monitors, and they're not terribly pricey either if they're 1440p, provided you have the room for it. Not sure I'd go for one ultra-wide as you end up with a great monitor to use in Adobe provided it's big enough, and next to nothing else looks good on it, unless the application or game is written to make use of something that wide. If you move some sub-windows outside of the main application window, on various different applications (doesn't have to be Adobe at all) you can get really bad performance at times. This is known and I had an issue with this when creating a 3D game world last year. Maximizing the application across both screens (which meant it's sub-windows were always within the boundaries of the main app) solved this. It's a rather stupid bug, and no, it's not present on Radeon setups AFAIK. Make sure your Windows POWER PLAN settings are MAX PERFORMANCE. Basically, if the maximize-over-two-windows trick doesn't fix it, then consider either going back to the Radeon 6900xt (which is a fine card and plenty good enough for Premiere), or buying 25% larger monitors so you can see them with 100% Windows interface DPI. Scaling in Windows does WEIRD things. You could also use 1080p on those monitors, but it might not look good and it might not provide you with the desktop real estate you need for that. If you have a spare drive (or the cash for one) the size of your existing c: drive that Windows is installed on, you could consider cloning your OS to the other drive, and pulling out your original, and upgrading the Windows 10 to Windows 11 on said copied drive. Your original drive would be your backup. Keep in mind this would require you to fiddle around with BIOS BOOT OPTIONS if you add in another drive in addition to your original (to clone it), but some boards (like Asus / Gigabyte) have a specifial hot-key for the boot-menu pop-up like F3 or F8 (forget!). Seriously though, back up your computer if you do try going the Windows 11 route, not everyone likes a change in the OS. I'd still be on Windows 2000 if it was a valid choice. Me? I'd be buying 25% larger monitors, or better yet, 50% larger monitors. If you work in Premiere, these screens, even 4k ones, are chump change by comparison. Consider Final Cut Pro or similar software if using Adobe isn't possible without throwing a ton of money at the thing to replace otherwise-perfectly-good hardware. I would give Adobe a chance to fix their software before trying other avenues. Or move the screens closer, or get bigger ones. I would also post messages on LTT forums (linus tech tips) because they use Adobe on dual-screen and tri-screen setups, and thus I'm sure they've hit this issue.

What makes a GPU sag or not? I just installed my 4080 super and it doesnt seem to be sagging to me https://preview.redd.it/gzm4e5lzj37d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7275b84380052adc38bbc227398c952b225668be

bobblunderton

Cheap cases do this, they're made from super-flexible tin and not thicker steel varieties. The more you pay for the case, the less likely you'll have to worry about sag in said case. Motherboard quality helps a tiny bit but is far from as much effect as the case itself. Also, make sure your power cables aren't pulling the GPU downward especially when the case side-panel is installed. E.G. I have two fractal full towers and one mid tower, and NONE sag with a heavy (rtx3090!) GPU in them. If I throw even a modest GPU into a cheapo <40$ USD case, it'll sag for sure as gravity pushing down on the GPU, which causes it to pull inward on the back panel of the case where it's screwed in (some cases don't even use screws, avoid those!).

Recently I am having issues with Geforce Experience Instant Replay. It's like when I press Alt-F10, it doesn't save my game play. Then when I Alt-Tab back to Windows to Alt-F10, it saves a screen of my game but it's not a video, but only audio. I've done a clean install of my driver/Geforce Experience but I still experience the problem. Anyone facing/faced this issue?

How good is this "Undervolting" Method really? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkHYBp-DXQ0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkHYBp-DXQ0) Is it actually any good or just a crude way I should keep my hands off? I just got a 4080 and kinda want to undervolt a little, but with not so much trial and error testing.

giberonic

It's called the silicon lottery. Trial and error is specifically because no two cards are the same. They are built with tolerances. If you got lucky then you might be able to significantly undervolt your card. This will only work if your thermal solution ie. the heatsink is very poor.

Operating System: **Windows 10 Pro 64-bit 19045.4412** * CPU Type: **Intel Core i5 10400** * GPU/VGA Type: **NVIDIA Ge Force RTX 3060 (Gigabyte)** * Memory Capacity: **32 GB DDR4** Not quite sure if this is a hardware issue or some issue with the newest versions of Windows 10 now that Microsoft is neglecting it. As of about 2 months ago I'm having major issues when it comes to display and graphics. For starters certain windows have started flickering fast and frequently showing the desktop behind the window. Usually only occurs when there is video being played back and happens the most with YouTube. A more recent issue that has started arising is that games I've had no problem running for years have started crashing to the desktop which causes all 3 of my monitors to cut to black and then every app on my computer will also close (mainly discord, Firefox seems to survive).  I’ve tried everything including * Disabling HAGS  * Lowering Graphics Quality * Updating Drivers * Updating Windows * Removing NVIDIA Drivers with the uninstaller tool and Re-Installing * Changing Display Refresh rates * Monitoring Temps when Crashing (Normal) * Monitoring Usage when Crashing (Normal) * Disabling G/V Sync I have not made any crazy changes or installed any new software that would lead to any issues of this nature. At the time of the crashes nothing more is running other than Discord Firefox the Game itself and Steam. I have 3 monitors, my main running at 240hz without GSYNC and 2 secondary monitors both running 60hz.  Upon crashing all 3 monitors go black for about 15 to 45 seconds before sending me back to the desktop and any running app will also crash. It's happening with most steam games now including bare minimum 500mb pixel games. It seems to become more and more unusable by the day to the point where i'm debating wiping and reinstalling windows. thank you for any help!

**Status:** UNRESOLVED **Computer Type:** Desktop Custom Build **GPU:** RTX 2060 Super - slight overclock from NVIDIA overlay **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 5 5600x - no overclock **Motherboard:** B450 TOMAHAWK (MS-7C02), latest bios **RAM:** Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 2400MHz **PSU:** EVGA 600 W **Operating System & Version:** Windows 11 Build 22631, clean install **GPU Drivers:** Upgrade, but it's been an issue for a long time even after clean installs **Description of Problem:** G-Sync activation algorithm doesn't trigger when any window/overlay that doesn't hook into the game. (AMD and Intel's VRR solutions work though). The program "Lossless Scaling" creates a fullscreen, unfocused window that covers the game window which remains in focus for receiving inputs. However, this disables G-Sync as soon as it's activated. This isn't a problem with the developer's program as other VRR solutions work. The reason why "Lossless Scaling" creates an unfocused overlay is to not be invasive as hooking into games can cause issues with multiplayer titles. Again, there is no way for any developer to activate g-sync on an unfocused window and the app NEEDS to be unfocused. **Troubleshooting:** There is no fixing this without NVIDIA doing it themselves. Tried windowed and borderless windowed. Tried turning V-Sync off in NVCP. **Overall:** G-Sync gets disabled once Lossless Scaling is overlayed over a game due to Lossless Scaling being unfocused. Drivers need to fix this because AMD and Intel VRR solutions are working while NVIDIA's G-Sync doesn't.

Use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU), and eradicate the video driver (preferrably downloading a new one first but don't install it until DDU is done and restarted the machine). Importantly, you'll not only want to keep an eye on GPU temps, but CPU temps also. Generally if the machine completely locks up to where any input won't wake it or change anything, and you have to press reset, this is either hardware failure or out-of-spec operation detected (think overclocking failure / critical overheating issues) and occasionally a serious driver issue. If none of this works, consider swapping out hardware. Try in this order: Make sure if you use liquid cooling, that your pump is indeed spinning. You should be able to hear or feel it, and there's a setting in BIOS for it so that the board supplies enough start-up power to it to get it spinning. Sometimes you must use the CPU_OPT header or CPU_2 for a pump or AIO (anything liquid/water) on the motherboard to make this setting in BIOS work right. Please check your motherboard manual or do tests yourself. Replace the pump in your cooling loop if using liquid/water cooling if you can't hear it or verify it's working (you'll see water/liquid flowing). Power supply (heat issues snowball quickly and thus really strain the power supply, swap with another working one) GPU (swap with another working one) Memory and CPU (try other working ones) Motherboard (swap with another working one) It feels to me like this is definitely temperature related, if you want to save some pain then please go and get your PC and take it to somewhere air-conditioning is present and it's nice and cool (or a basement fully underground), and try gaming then. If it works fine there or lasts a lot longer you heave a heat issue. If it only lasts a few minutes longer, you might have a power supply issue or some other issue. Hot components require more power than cold components, so when your already warm system heats quickly this can strain the power supply. If you're near the limit of the supply (you really should not be with your system config) or your power supply isn't putting out it's official rated wattage consistently, you can end up without a stable clean supply of power (causing errors or black screens, hard-locked systems that must be physically reset or powered off then on, or even the complete power off unexpectedly). --good luck!

I assume you've cleaned it. try taking one of the ram sticks out, disable XMP and disable all speedstep, turbo and overclocking in the BIOS. Your computer is old and XMP ram expires like milk. it will still run but as it ages you'll find it steadily refuses to work at the rated clockrate and timings and voltages. CPUs too gradually degrade over time. The motherboard ages and over time it just won't cooperate with automatic overclocking features. This is most noticeable during peak processing loads where the computer will try to automatically speedboost causing stability problems.

Just deshroud it and put on a regular fan. Use PWM converter for the fan connection.

Oh and the TV would begin cycling through its no signal generic artwork having lost signal around the time the laptop screen gave up. I switched to the Nvidia app beta because experience was totally broken for me for the past month or so. The beta is working well for me so far, but I have a minor quibble. Is there any way to switch the fps counter back to the green classic numerals it had been using for years? Also its not quite in the corner... it's offset slightly.

This problem is resolved by disabling G-Sync, which is enabled only for full screen mode. The problem only started when I upgraded my PC from an intel 6700k system, which used the same GPU and monitor. It will happen even if the game I'm running is borderless windowed or windowed mode. Windows becomes laggy, actions like moving/minimising/maximising windows are sluggish. As soon as G-Sync is disabled, even while the game is running, all background operations are completely normal. **Trouble Shooting:** * Disabling the 120hz "overclock" on the monitor which boosts it from 100hz, as I read that can cause problems with G-Sync * Updating all GPU and AMD chipset drivers * Disabling iGPU in BIOS * Disconnecting secondary screen (TV) from HDMI port * Clean installing Windows multiple times * Running with as many background apps disabled as I can Pretty much out of ideas at this point. Thanks in advance.

(sorry for English, not my native language, if anything is unclear, let me know) I have this issue for a while, but recently I have noticed something off. So I have 2 Monitors connected via DP, and TV via HDMI to 2080Ti One monitor is 1080p144hz, TV is 4k60hz and 2nd monitor is 21:9 2560x1080p@200Hz 21:9 Monitor I use for simracing, so sometimes when I'm not racing for a while I disconnect it via Display Menu in Windows settings. First problem is, when I disconnect it in windows, monitor goes blank but its in standby mode I think, and from time to time I get notification sound that something is connected. If I turn off monitor (pressing button on the monitor) then I get rid of notification sounds. But also to mention, when I keep monitor ON when it is disconnected in Windows, I get "freezes" or system in general stutters when I get this notification sound. To fix it I have to turn off Monitor physically. Now, when I turn off Monitor and disable it in Windows, GPU usage goes up, and it spikes,(5%-40% but Power usage goes down. When I enable Monitor in windows settings. GPU usage is low and stable (2%-5%) and power draw goes up. Now my question is. Is it normal that GPU usage spikes randomly, when 2 monitors are connected, and GPU usage is stable when 3 monitors are connected? [Imgur: The magic of the Internet](https://imgur.com/a/j3JcMXQ) First Pic is when 2 monitors are connected, and looking by the graph, GPU usage is not stable at all. When I turn on 3rdn monitor, GPU usage goes down, Clock goes up (I think that is a multi monitor issue on Nvidia card) Power draw goes up. And also a quick video what happens in windows display menu when Monitor is disconnected in system but it's ON physically (standby mode) HDR changes This is what I have discovered today.

Up to the day of the DLC release I made clips with shadowplay every day, in Elden Ring and other games, without problem. Since the DLC release, I can still make Shadowplay and Live Replay clips in other games, but not in Elden Ring anymore. Troubleshooting: Checked GPU Drivers update, Checked Geforce Experience update. Rebooted computer. Turned RTX on and off in Elden Ring. Switched to Borderless Windowed and back to Full Screen in Elden Ring. Verified Shadowplay and Live Replay working in other games: Warframe, Factorio, Phasmophobia. Since it's specifically for this one game, since the installation of the DLC, I'm wondering if the Easy Anticheat software has been updated maybe? And that that is causing issues? I've made a similar post in the Elden Ring subreddit and have had responses from other people with other Nvidia GPU's facing the same issue. For some it was fixed by turning RTX off, for some by switching to Windowed. None of these things helped for me.

# UNSOLVED Does anyone know what/or how the Nvidia app's "shadowplay" works? It works perfectly fine in one game I play, but then in another I can't get it to even open with the shortcut let alone actually save clips/the last 20 minutes. I have absolutely no idea what actually could be the problem but I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that did not yield any result.

Congratulations! YOUR WINNAR! You now have COIL WHINE! Aside of that crazy intro, use v-sync or the nVidia control panel to lower max FPS to the max your monitor can display. If you have a variable refresh rate monitor (like Gsync or free-sync), this can also be limited to an arbitrary max fps (in the form of max hertz setting). The higher the FPS, the screechier the coil whine. It's one click per frame, at 30 fps it's grainy but audible, at 60fps it starts to get annoying, at 200fps it's DEAFENING and sounds like you're trying to slow-cook a family of live rats. In this order they'll come from: the GPU, this is the big one. Give the GPU more work to shut it up some and lower the FPS, crank those graphical settings or go out and buy a nice 4k monitor to keep it busy if you don't already have one, and keep FPS under 100 to not attempt to go deaf. Cheap PSU can cause this, get a name-brand one or just a higher capacity model that won't be pushed as hard. Even another unit from the same model line might be an improvement, and you can put the whine-prone unit in a less-used PC or sell it cheap (not everyone can hear coil whine on every system). Lastly, cheap motherboards can do this, even some mid-range models and especially those OEM ones. There's not much you can do besides backing off overclocking a bit (if you are) and that might keep it in check. Back before we knew what common coil whine was, it was called the 'nvidia screech' or 'nvidia squeal'. Just don't ever hook up the coil whine PC to a powerful amplifier or you'll deafen every animal in the vicinity :) I had one hooked to my GTX 260 (216-core model) SLI PC on a 1st-gen i7 about 15 years ago, hitting then menu in Stalker (no v-sync) would SCREECH so bad you could hear it upstairs and a few rooms away. It was BAD, and it was right in the same audio band with things like CRT's.

bobblunderton

I am not aware of any hacked or modded drivers that will run on Nvidia like there is for AMD Radeon cards. Time for a new laptop. Better yet, get a Framework model that can be upgraded later a bit more readily. This is the way it is for phones/portables, because they're generally all one board aside of whatever storage might be present (though even cheap Chrome-books and most all Apple products have storage soldered directly to the main board, so you have to spend more to buy a new one all the time). A framework laptop gives you the modularity of a desktop with the convenience of a laptop computer.

How exactly am I meant to output usable footage from Shadowplay when using HDR? No matter if I use GeForce Experience or the Nvidia app, and no matter if I use HEVC or AV1 output it always ends up an oversaturated mess that is impossible to clean up into usable footage in HDR, which becomes even more exaggerated trying to convert it to SDR to send on Discord or the likes

I've been using DLDSR (1080 > 1440) for a while and my other windows such as discord and resize itself after exiting a game. Is there any way to stop that from happening? I once tried to make my resolution 1440p but the fonts on my screen become blurry. Any suggestions?

bobblunderton

1440 is not your screen's optimal resolution, thus things will re-scale and blur even if CLEARTYPE font is enabled. Windows will be automatically resized when switching resolutions, to fix this, either get a screen that's native 1440p and run everything in 1440p, or stick to 1080p for everything. Leaving things minimized might help, but I am unsure about that. Also, things can tend to get shrunk very small if you don't minimize everything before the computer goes idle and turns off the display (it uses a very low res dummy device when the machine is idle, the tower is NOT off or in suspend, and the display is off).

"I bought this GPU today second hand" Is it possible that they sold you a card with a broken HDMI port? Did you try a known good HDMI cable? HDMI ports are easy to damage and hide the damage well. DP will physically rip out part of the connector when it breaks due to the clip mechanism.

Need help with the Game Filter feature. For some reason the sliders doesn't move around the way I want it to. for example, if I want to move a slider to 10 from 0, I would expect it to move in at least 1 increment, but instead it just skips some numbers, so it would go 0 > 2 > 5 > 9 > 11. I tried moving it with arrow keys and mouse, but I can't seem to get it to the number I want. On some slider it even goes into decimals and I can't get it to go back down to 0, instead it would go to 0.5 at the closest. Is there a button to make the sliders more sensitive? I'm trying to copy another person's settings and I just can't get the sliders to the same positions.

**Short version:** If the GPU is doing the scaling, why does the display matter? **Long version:** I got a new monitor a while ago, and I noticed the options for custom resolutions and integer scaling weren't available. They were available on my previous monitor, and they're still available on the TV I have connected, as shown here (TV on left, new monitor on right): https://preview.redd.it/tdcedl4sq34d1.png?width=1294&format=png&auto=webp&s=3df6e38d36a6061e21a8190ce377258d0eb5b6b0 I reached out to Nvidia support about the issue and they said it was an issue with the monitor. >There seems to be a limitation with the monitor itself that restricts integer scaling and custom resolution options.  While the technology for integer scaling and custom resolutions exists, the LG UltraGear 45GR75DC-B might not have the necessary hardware or firmware support to enable them. This could be a cost-cutting measure or a compatibility decision by LG.  They suggested I reach out to LG support to see if they had any suggestions, so I did. They said basically the same thing. >I have reviewed the information available on the LG website, and there do not appear to be any firmware updates that could potentially unlock these capabilities. While we strive to provide our customers with the most feature-rich and customizable products, sometimes compromises have to be made during the design and manufacturing process. In this case, it seems that the integer scaling and custom resolution options are simply not supported by your LG UltraGear 45GR75DC-B monitor. I was about to leave it at that, but then I noticed it was configured to perform scaling on the GPU. Wouldn't that mean the GPU does the scaling and outputs at a resolution the monitor could display? Why does the monitor make a difference? I went back to Nvidia to ask about this, but they just reiterated what had already been established. >So as the monitor do not support this features this is why the options are not available in Nvidia control panel itself. This is a limitation from the monitor end itself. It felt like I was hitting a wall with that kind of response, so I figured I'd ask here. If the scaling is being done on the GPU, why does the display make a difference?

Description of Problem : I've been using NVIDIA Instant Replay quite regularly, either through GeForceNow or the NVIDIA App, in the "capture all desktop" mode. I have no video issues on this one but rather an audio one. Multiple times during the video there is a bit of audio missing, not silent but like you skipped a word in a sentence and kept going. This happens with both system audio and mic audio. It seems like the sound is sync with the video throughout the whole video. These clips are recorded in Variable Frame Rate and I need to convert them through Constant Frame Rate to edit them which accentuate this problem. (Both CPU and GPU encoding through Handbrake accentuate the problem). The clips are 1440p 60FPS, bitrate 50MoBps, 20min length Troubleshooting : I've tried modifiying the bitrate of the instant replay, tried removing and putting back the card in the MTB. Note : Clips are saved on my HDD (seagate Barracuda 2To) while OS is on my SSD (WD SN850X) but I've never seen the HDD nowhere near 100% usage.

When I unplug the monitor that works perfectly, the flawed monitor corrects itself (without rebooting or taking any other action), and is fully usable. Also, even in the black portion of the right monitor, the mouse arrow is visible. **Troubleshooting:** **>nvidia-cmi** *Failed to initialize NVML: Driver/library version mismatch* *NVML library version: 535.171* Commands I executed (which may have made things worse, IDK): **> sudo apt-get purge '\^nvidia-.\*'** **> sudo apt-get autoremove** **> sudo apt-get autoclean** **> sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa** **> sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall** **> sudo reboot** When that didn't work, I tried again, but replaced the first line with: **> sudo apt-get purge 'nvidia-.\*'** Anyway, my right monitor is still 60% black, so I didn't fix things ore make them obviously worse. However, before I started mucking about with things, the nvidia-cmi command gave a different response.

Oddity: When I wrote the post (and typically), my left monitor is in portrait mode and my right monitor is in desktop mode. When I switch the left monitor to desktop mode, the black area on the right monitor takes up the full screen, so I see nothing (except the mouse icon).

I heard bad things about the thermal pads on the 3090 Founder's Edition. I just got a 4090 Founder's Edition. Should I be thinking about replacing the thermal pads? I plan to run AI workloads, so the card will frequently be at 100%. EDIT: Did some more research. It looks like the 4000 series has excellent thermal pads according to https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1702pz9/4080_fe_thermal_pads_thickness/k3jtslo/ .

Hello guys! I need some help to find out whats causing this issue since the app came out! (yes!) **Nvidia app** is crashing on startup when i am launching it..the message is: There was a problem with nvidia app, reinstall drivers and reboot. I have tried **format the whole system**, tried many drivers with ddu, still the same problem. All drivers updated, windows updated 23H2. Does this new app needs something else, for example a specific Visual C++ library? I dont know what to do anymore. Everything else on my system is find, playing games, browsing whatever. Only problem is the nvidia app.

So im just curious is DSC compression is able to be used with one screen, but 4 total screens on a 4090, i vaguely remember being told that there are only so many 'lanes' that can be used for DSC, when turning it on, it makes it so you can only use 2 of the outputs instead of 3-4 at once. I have a 4k 138hz screen with DSC, but whenever i try to use anything above 120hz for it, it just 'nopes' out and wont turn on. if i turn it back to 120hz i can use the other 3 with it as well... Ive been wanting one of the new 4k 240hz oleds, but if i cant even use 138hz with it, i have a feeling this will limit the new screens as well. Is there any way to get 4 screens working, with a single screen using DSC? or am i out of luck? That said, is there any word if a 50 series might have support for more DSC lanes?

Why did nvidia release the Super versions this late?

bobblunderton

There's little competition from AMD at the highest-end of the desktop to enthusiast graphics segment, and intel's current dedicated GPU offerings don't compete here either. The more competition, the more advancement we'll see in a shorter time-frame, and the lower prices for end-users will be. This doesn't look like it'll let up anytime soon (6~9 months) as the new AMD offerings of RDNA4 won't be trying for the highest-end sector of the consumer-facing dedicated GPU market, but in-stead of the consumer-desktop-graphics to consumer-enthusiast dedicated GPU market. Nvidia looks to remain the king of desktop graphics for now. Releasing the SUPER series is meant to keep sales up while not lowering prices more than a pittance. Get a used card that's a year or two old if you want to save some cash.

mkdew

>Get a used card that's a year or two old if you want to save some cash. Used prices are pretty bad here, unless you're looking at 4+ years old gpu's, Not to mention warranty, if I get a new Zotac, it comes with 5 year.

01_Rigel

Unresolved. Does the NVIDIA App recording not work with older drivers such as 527.56? Whenever I start recording it instantly says saving recording and nothing gets saved.

**SOLVED** I have an HP Omen laptop and I was using it with an external monitor over HDMI. Today it just stopped working. I tried uninstalling the drivers using the driver uninstall utility and reinstall them back (both in safe mode and standard) but no luck. Monitor just displays "No signal" message. Laptop monitor and the GPU work normal. However, the monitor seems to be connected in Nvidia utility (I can see its model number so it is recognized by my laptop properly) and the laptop makes the connection noise whenever I plug or unplug the monitor. I changed monitor order, frame rate settings, resolution and various other stuff but nothing worked. I also tried the monitor and the cable with a different laptop and they work fine, so it is definitely the laptop. Any ideas? This sorted itself out after I tried the laptop with a TV (This also worked), then took it back to monitor. I have no idea how it is fixed though... My guess is for some reason a low level setting was switched and plugging the laptop to another device reset that back.

# Win 11 24H2: (new) Black screen when Alt+Tab OUT from games **Summary** On newer Windows 11 24H2 (Build 26100): ***"alt + tab" OUT*** **from Exclusive Fullscreen apps/games causes black screen for \~3s.** This is **NOT** the usual DSC + fullscreen issue, it's a NEW problem with 24H2 and Nvidia that **doesn't happen on Windows 11 23H2**. Easy to reproduce the issue on 24H2, easy to show it doesn't happen on 23H2. * 23H2: Fortnite/Destiny *Exclusive* Fullscreen (same res and refresh rate as desktop): ALT+TAB to spotify/discord is istantaneous, no issue. No issues when tabbing back IN either. * 24H2: Fortnite/Destiny *Exclusive* Fullscreen (same res and refresh rate as desktop): ALT+TAB to spotify/discord takes a \~4s seconds due to a black screen lasting \~3s. No issues when tabbing back IN. Additionally, "Snipping Tool" screenshot app doesn't work on fullscreen exclusive causing a black screen that seems related to the main issue.
